On CM7, anytime I am typing on the keyboard loads up the shortcut for those letters. For example, when I just hit the 'e' key, it opens up the email. When I hit the 'b' key, it opens up the browser.
Any idea why this happens?
Go to Settings-Applications-Quick Launch. Go through the list and long-press to clear the shortcuts.

had the same problem and that works, thanks.
but my problem is bigger.... the alt key stopped.
i press alt, the signal appears on the screen, but appears the letter q, not the number one for example...
somebody knows what to do?
thanks
hey guys... about my problem above... the shift key also does not work and the alt key works sometimes.... for example... to enter my password here it worked... right know typing here it is not working.
i am about to reset... nobody knows what to do?
thanks
I had this same problem recently. The problem was that for the shortcut to work I have to hold down the search key along with the letter key (to open the email Search+E). For me the fix was tapping the Search touch key on the front of the phone. I figured for some reason it had gotten stuck in thinking the search key was always pressed. After I touched that hardware touch key, everything started working again.
Major thanks for this answer. I was about to post this to the Q&A section of the Samsung Epic thread. The solutions here fixed my problems. I thought I was breaking the hardware on my phone.
Thanks a lot, you ppl really helped me!
similar problem?
hey guys, I thought I had a similar problem but after thoroughly reading the post I guess I don't
but in case anyone thinks they may be able to help, please take a look!!

Hi Guys!
I really, really need help with this one! Recently my touchscreen stopped working. And it is a hardware problem. Some liquid seems to have flown out, so no point fixing it. The rest works. However there is no way to press enter with the keyboard only. Do you have any ideas which shortcut might work to press enter with keyboard only? PLEASE help.
best

Hi,
Didn't find any posting to this issue, so maybe my Defy is the only one with this problem:
If I press the seach button for long time, nothing happens. All other long press functions (menu, home) are working.
The search button (short press) is working.
On rare occasions I managed to get the popup menu (Quick Settings is installed, so I saw that in the menu) from the long press search, so I know, the function is there.
I checked the key codes, every thing looks OK. This behaviour was there from the beginning (I didn't even know of this function untill I read about it). So it is nothing related to any modifications I made.
So I would appreciate, if some of the defy owners would report, if the function on their phone is OK. Then I at least know, if I should replace my phone...
Thanks in advance.
Got answers on a different forum now:
normally long press search works on the defy. Seems to be a problem with my hardware.
Anyway, if anybody has a similar problem, please give a message.
If i long press on my search key it brings up voice search. On Nordic deblur.
I used some days ago a program name Buttonremmap from the Market.
U can change, ou re configure your buttons. (if it is not hardware problems, of course)
Thanks for the answers!
Now I figured out how to start the function on my phone:
I have to tap the search button three times and leave the finger on it after the last tap. Like da-da-daaaaah . Really, I'm not making this up!
Kind of strange, but I can live with it. At least I have a really individual phone
Sometimes this has happened to me and I was wondering on how to fix it and if anyone else has had this issue. Recently when I am in an app and I try to use my Hard keyboard if I press any of these keys it launches an app
(e - email
l - calender
p - don't recall.
g - gmail)
Anyone else see this ever. Usually I just use the onscreen keyboard when this happens and later it works again. This happened to me in the facebook app and also in dolphin browser.

Check Applications --> Quick Launch and see if you have any keys assigned to those apps.
It's my quick launch I think my search key was acting like it was pressed even though it wasn't. Thank you. Most have been stuck. Thank you.
It happens when you press the app key once by accident on the top left of the keyboard. Press it again and it turns off the shortcuts.
The app key? Which one is that? This happens to me a lot and I just mash on the keyboard until it goes away. I also am having problems with the keyboard not working at all. Sometimes I open the phone up and the whole keyboard stops working and I have to reboot the phone.
Also once I was on Dolphin browser and I was logging into Google plus and my numbers were acting funny. I could not press the ALT button to activate the numbers I had to hold the ALT then press the numbers. I thought that was weird.

Do you know any way to disable Quick Launch? Or maybe disabling all the pre-assigned things? --Do Not Want--
Thanks

Long press on the shortcut and it should give you an option to clear it.

The default shortcuts are the search button plus a letter. It happened to me once, and after pushing the search button on the top right of my keyboard a few times, everything started working fine again. Hope that helps.

Keyboard not working...at all
Hey all
CM11, official with apps installed the Captivate Glide physical keyboard is hit or miss. Since the physical keyboard is the WHOLE REASON to try to modify this older phone, its functionality is important. Physical keyboard ALT commands (#'s etc) do not work in any application. The letter keys works...sometimes. I have used default keyboard settings and have no idea whehter there is a fix on the main CM11 thread.
Many thansk!:good:
Alt is a non stick key

Well the thing is alt in cm11 is not a sticky key but its non stick . What i mean by that is that if you wanna type '1'. Keep 'ALT' pressed and hit the number '1' in blue on the keyboard. the alt key dosent seem to stick for some reason.
this is actually cause of the google ime treating our physical qwerty as a desktop keyboard i think where alt is also non stick.

"Alt" doesn't work at all -- even if held during typing. I will keep searching for keyboard fixes I guess. Since the keyboard is 100% of the reason to use the Captivate Glide, it's utility is a major issue. Many thanks for your reply!
Hi
The letter p is no longer responding on my touch key board. I can press many times and no response.
Also the backspace button is not that responsive.
What's the best way to fix this? Is there something I Can change in the settings or do I need to have the hardware repaired?
Thanks.

Hello everyone, I worked out a solution myself so I thought I would share it with the rest of you.
a google search would suggest that I should try another keyboard, and having tried a few this made no difference. what i then realised was that I have an app called sidebar installed which was on the bottom right hand side of my screen and was affecting the p button as well as the backspace button. I have moved the sidebar outside of the keyboard range so it's no longer an issue now. Thabjs.
