Hi all,
I'm pretty sure this is just me being paranoid, but I've noticed that sometimes when I click the power button it makes a high clicking noise while other times it is completely silent. Is this normal with these phones? Am I just being paranoid?
Mine is silent. One of the volume buttons used to click slightly but it stopped after a while.
Yeah, for me my volume buttons are always silent while the power button clicks occasionally depending on how it's pressed, I guess its probably just to do with manufacturing tolerances.

My EVO is forever switching itself to silent mode without me doing it (that I am aware of). I never intentionally set it to that myself. It's either in full sound/vibrate mode or vibrate only. However, often while texting I'll sit my phone down, pick it up later, and see I have missed texts and the phone is in silent mode.
How does that keep happening? Is it something I'm doing while hitting the power button to shut the screen back off?
the volume keys can set the ringer to up, down, or on vibrate.

Right, but I have my volume maxed out all the time, and I know that during the process of sitting my phone down on the desk I'm not holding in the volume button and running it all the way down to nothing. Plus, I don't think you can alter the ringer volume with the volume keys while the screen is off, can you?
*ok I just figured it out*
What I must be doing is accidentally squeezing the volume up button as I grip the phone and press the power button to shut the screen off. That puts the phone in silent mode. Mystery solved!
Some (a lot) of ROMs, including stock, also have an option to silence/send to voicemail when the phone is placed face down, as well. Sometimes, it seems like these options can inadvertently be triggered by setting it down wrong, or even moving it around in your pocket. Just something I have noticed.

I forgot about that option. I always make sure my phone doesn't do that as I always have my hands in my pockets when I walk and almost always have my phone face down on my desk when not using it.
To be more precise: I seem unable to adjust the call volume whilst the phone is on my ear & the screen blank - once I lower the phone & the screen comes back I can adjust the volume without any problems. Is it just me, am I missing something?
I also got problem....

no problems even while the screen is blank, why dont u try restarting ur phone and see if it works
and you are using the volume rocker to increase/decrease the call volume right ?
Well, whatever it was it seems to have disappeared after updating the phone to 1.28 - thanks for the quick reply.
I'm having this issue too - HTC One X running 1.29. When I call someone I can change the volume using the rocker on the side while the phone is ringing, but the rocker doesn't seem to do anything once we're talking. I called someone the other day and as it was noisy around me I turned the volume up, but then once they answered it quietened down and I couldn't turn the volume back down. Annoying!
I also have this problem, and from memory it has persisted from 1.26 -> 1.28 -> 1.29
what happens is that I'll take a call, and after the screen turns off from holding it next to my ear, the volume rocker will still work for maybe a minute?
after some time, e.g. 5 minutes (i've never actually timed it), the volume rocker will be completely unresponsive until i take it away from my ear (after screen turns back on)
That's what I experience too. Have to.move phone away from ear to adjust volume....

My htc desire is just over 2 years old. Out of warranty. Have not rooted or done anything else, just running the standard software.
A couple of months ago it got damp inside the pocket of my jacket. After turning it on it went to the hboot screen (the one where I can choose the options Fastboot, recovery, clear storage, simlock.) I dried the phone out and tried turning it on again.
Since then, whenever I have turned on my phone, it has had about a 50% chance of going to the hboot screen. Sometimes this screen would be unresponsive (ie. pressing the volume up/down buttons didn't do anything.) Sometimes I would be able to use the buttons to navigate around.
With a varied amount of removing the battery and mashing on the volume up/down buttons and power button when starting up the phone I could get it to start up. I think my success was related to half holding down volume up, so as to release the volume down button, and press power at the same time, but I'm not sure. This would sometimes happen after a couple of tries, but sometimes would take much longer, maybe half an hour of mashing.
Occasionally when running the phone would turn the volume all the way down to mute (as though the volume down button was being held, although I wasn't pressing anything.) Sometimes it would crash.
I took this to mean that my volume down button was busted, but things worked "ok" most of the time.
Today my phone will not respond to any amount of mushing the volume keys. I leapt into the deep end and disassembled my phone. I've pulled apart the volume button, removed the sticky black plastic that covers the circuitry of the button, removed the two small circular metal bits, removed the metal bar that is about 3cm long (1.5 in) and now the volume button is reduced to just a little bit plastic with copper bits printed on both sides.
I had hoped that this would be enough to completely disable my volume buttons and all would be well. Unfortunately... when I start the phone I am still at an unresponsive hboot screen
Does anyone have any advice that could help me? I could get the scissors out and start cutting stuff off but that seems like it would be unlikely to work...
Thanks in advance.
Wait...so you disabled the volume buttons, and you expect hboot to be responsive?
They were the only way to navigate through hboot.
What do you mean by "unresponsive"? Does the power button do something when pressing it?

Regularly, to get to hboot you hold volume down and the power button. My volume down button was permanently held down (I think,) so I hoped that by removing the volume buttons it would start normally.
By unresponsive I mean it goes to hboot but pressing the power button does nothing when I am there (ie. it doesn't select the highlighted option (fastboot))
Today I got really weird problem. My volume buttons worked good, but now, the up button when I'm holding it, mutes the phone. Single click sometimes makes louder, sometimes it acts like down button, and sometimes does nothing at all. The lower button acts similar. The camera and power buttons are working like new. It happens on 4.1 and 4.3, so I think it's hardware problem. But what caused this and how to fix it? Please, I really don't want to give this phone to service! :crying:
Hi,
My up volume button and power button are not stringent as they were before. But my volume down button is somewhat stringent. I could feel it's trick thing.. does anyone face this.
My mzp is 5+ months old.
Regards,
Dinesh
It depends on your usage.
Power button is pressed several times a day and Volume up button also.
My phones always remain in vibration or silent so my volume up button is quite stringent then the Volume down.
So it's normal till it is working properly(Or is responsive).
Do not worry.
Cheers:good:
