[Q]Battery percentage misreadings? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So yesterday I flashed the clean kernel 1.03d via cwm 3.0.2.5 and today I notcied that my battery percentage icon is misleading me. One second it was 56%, then turned the screen off for a while, but when I came back to my phone it said 57%. Has this happened to anyone, and how do I fix these readings?
Do I just go into cwm and wipe the battery stats and reboot, or what?
Thanks.

That's happened to me before. I found shutting the phone down. Taking the battery out for like 30 seconds and then powering back up helped. Charging back up to 100 percent fixed it completely for me.

Alright thanks. My battery's been draining like hell lately anyway. I'm just gonna odin to the EB13 modem tomorrow and see if that does it.

Big drops in battery can happen when the modem locks up and the phone starts getting hot. And if you use the reboot option it will drop from say 50% to 8% (just had that happen, but Im testing other things not in my ROM),and then if you power off it will come back to maybe 48%... I cant call this one, because it happens on diffrent ROMs/kernels...

Battery Info Wrong

Anyone have this issue:?
When I unplug my phone from the charger and look at battery use, my "time on battery" doesn't refresh with the right info.
It doesn't start over when I unplug the phone. I plug my phone in and unplug and it still shows 4 hours on battery
Yes its happend a couple of times also today it was full and still plugged in it turnd off the power it and it started charging a min then full i turnd the phone back on while still plugged in and it started charging again but did not turn full i just unpugged it and whent to work

nevermind. sorry misread, haha.
I haven't seen this yet, I'll follow it and see if it happens to me too.
If you are rooted and have CWM you can boot into recovery and clear your battery stats to show the correct percentage. I had a galaxy tab 10.1 that had some weird battery issue. I cleared battery stats charged to full and haven't had a issue since.
I haven't had this issue, but I'm on a rooted device. One thing that helped me was draining the battery till the phone automatically shuts off then keeping the phone off and charge it fully. I had much better battery life after this.

[Q] Charge time from 0 to 100 ?

So... I'm calibrating my battery. Charged it to 100%, left it run down to 0%, and am now charging it back up without any break. The problem is... as soon as I plugged in the charger when the phone powered down, the charging battery icon came up..and it wont go away. It's been like this for 2 hours.
I'm hoping the device is actually charging and isn't just frozen or something; I don't want to turn the device on as that might hinder the whole calibration thing.
Question is: Does anyone know how long it takes to charge from dead to 100% ? I need to know when to take the phone and see if it's actually been charging this whole time
Actually that happened to me last night let it charge for a lil bit unplug the phone take the battery out and then put the battery back in and turn the phone back on with the power button and it should turn back on

Yeah I'd battery pull but can't mess up the calibration process. I know it's charging because the device is somewhat warm in the back and the display can't stay on for this long unless it's getting juice...
I'll battery pull if necessary in a couple of hours, or tomorrow morning. But seriously, this thing better be charging ಠ_ಠ

So it's morning, the device charged, but I did have to do a battery pull before booting it up. All is well :}
Yeah, I had this issue too
Wondered WTF was going on as I couldnt turn it back on whilst it was charging and the battery logo stayed on even when I unplugged it
Was resolved by pulling the battery and powering back on
OP hows your battery doing now?

When I did a full charge from the point that I ran the battery down until the phone turned itself off, it took approx 140min for it to charge completely to 100%. That being said, I'd give it 2.5hrs max and if it still isn't showing it as being done charging, then there may be a problem.

It's caused by the bad cwm. We need a fixed cwm.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Battery was at 27% at 2:47pm. Been turned on since 10AM and playing music for about two hours with screen turned on for 2h 15m. Was in airplane mode for about 2hours as well. No es bueno imo, compared to what I saw before. Might be the new rom/kernels I flashed; even though they were supposed to significantly increase battery life.
..ah well who knows lol

Has this issue been solved? I just rooted my phone, installed CWM, and different ROM. Whenever phone is powered off and I try to charge it, I cannot turn it back on without battery pull. This wasn't an issue with stock phone.

Pull your battery out after charging to 100. Wait a minute, put it back in, boot up, and then charge to 100 again. Repeat until you boot up to 100 then wipe battery stats and use until 1% battery.

Also might want to let it drain all the way.. then fully charge and try wiping battery stats in a cwm recovery..

will do..
Did the advice in this thread fix your problem? My phone just started doing a similar thing today while at work. I'm on CM9 A3, FD10 kernel and FD26 modem. I had my phone plugged in at my desk, it indicated it was at 100%, and then as soon as I unplugged it went down to 84%. I flashed back to EL26, rei-nstalled CM9 A3, and it's still doing it. It also will do it with the phone off. After it's plugged in for a matter of seconds, it jumps up to 100% and stops charging. As soon as it is unplugged, back down to the 80s.
the same thing happens to me every once in a while, pulling the battery seems to help

This! I have always done this when it has happened to me and it has always worked. I would recommend before flashing any new rom when you wipe everything else like cache and delvic and all that good stuff include wiping battery stats.
Thanks for the responses. It is apparently the charger that I had at work. I'm a little surprised that a charger would cause a phone to think it's charged all the way but I guess stranger things have happened.
Charging off usb seems to work the best, I was using an old blackberry charger that gave me similar issues. Now I only use samsung wall chargers.

Trust me a bad charger can cause a lot of problems. One time I was using a crappy lg charger and whenever I would plug my phone in it would say battery disconnected I was sure the phone was messed up took it to sprint they hooked it up to the Samsung charger it comes with it charged fine. They gave me a new charger and I have never had a problem since.

[Q] Battery staying at 100%!

I know there have been a few posts regarding this, but mine is not exactly the same.
The battery life indicator is ALWAYS ON and colored green, even after hours of use, light is still on with battery at 100% and indicating that it's being charged. This happened during the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, I constantly pulled battery in and out to conserve battery, temperature kept going up and down. During sleep, it is frozen solid, after a few use, its hot, happened maybe over 15 times.
After my power came back on, I did everything people suggested in the other post, I discharged my phone from 0, then charged to 100, but it was a TEMPORARY fix. After it was charged to 100, the battery light indicator is stuck on green with charging indicator stuck on as well.
Phone is not rooted, no custom rom, nothing modified. Next, I tried factory resetting and wiping data, gave myself root, changed to a custom rom, problem is still there! I tried with both my Seidio's 3500mah battery and 1500mah battery, but I did the battery pulling on both during the blackout caused by Hurricane Sandy.
So... Any suggestions..?

Motherboard maybe fried if its reading as overcharged. I'm surprised it would still work if that's the case..

Is there a way to check if that's true? Also, when the battery notification light is stuck on, it doesn't connect to my PC via usb, my PC can't detect it, and my phone gave no pop up or show a usb icon. I can only connect to PC via bootloader/recovery.
Unfortunately I can't provide any suggestions about correcting your problem. (Besides just getting a new Evo, sucks but it sounds like your maybe genuinely dangerous.)
Airplane mode enabled on my Evo usually lasts a few days on a full charge.
How many days did you get off yours by doing what you did?

Before rooting, my battery dropped insanely quick. I didn't use airplane mode to conserve energy, I just shut it off via power button. I turned it off for one class approx. 75 minutes, after class I turned it on, 15% of the battery went away.
After rooting, I was able to disable all the useless sprint apps eating at my battery, so now, it's lasting maybe 3x longer than it did before.

[Q] battery dies too soon

I have an epic that was working fine. I got a new phone so it sat with the battery dead for a little over a month. Now I gave the epic to my daughter and the battery is all wonky. It will charge up to 100%, but when I take it off the charger it will last anywhere from 20 minutes to 4 hours, which I got the other day with no use and airplane mode on. Now here's the wonky part. It only goes down to around 88% and than goes dead. If I plug it back in it says it has about 80% charge. But if I don't plug it in and just try to turn it back on it acts like it doesn't have enough juice. Now on this phone I'm on cwm 6.8.x or something like that and you can't wipe battery stats so I didn't try that. So I guess my next step would be to flash another recovery and wipe battery stats. I did just flash the peoples ROM 2.2 (I think was the number) just yesterday and wiped everything else for a clean install. Has anyone heard of or experienced this? How can I fix this? Will wiping battery stats work? Also, the battery was great, I could easily get all day out of it with average use just a month ago. Please and thank you.
Nothing?
This community is very small now since this device is old. You need to have patience regarding replies to threads.
Sounds like you need to replace the battery. Look on Amazon and eBay.
I haven't heard of this happening before, nor has it happened to me. Even though some would advise against it, i'd 'calibrate' the battery just to see if that would fix it. If that doesn't fix it, I have no idea.

From what I recall there was a lot of different opinions about the battery wipe in CWM.
If you google it there should be a video that shows you how to use it. I think you drain the battery until phone shuts off then charge it full, unplug it wait 10 minutes, charge it full, then turn it on and wipe battery stats. Then run phone dead again and charge again. Don't really want to charge it until after running it dead.
I used it a couple of times and it seemed to help but people say it has no affect because the battery stats are in the rom or something like that.
I also have heard that after you load a new rom you have to give it some time and the battery will get better.
I have never experienced what you are so sorry I can't help.
I would guess most would say its the battery buy a new one cause it sounds like the battery is only charging 20%.
I still have my stock battery after almost 2 years. It will get me through the day if I just make phone calls and text, but I have to keep a charger handy if I'm going to use the phone for other things. Sometimes my battery will drop if I reboot. It will be at like 30% and when I reboot it will come on with 15% and tell me to charge it.
They say the 1800ma model will work in this phone and I would check into that if buying a new battery.
Well good luck!
The battery was working fine two months ago. That's why its weird to me. Wiping the stats didn't help. I guess a new battery is in order. Grrrrrrrr

If it was the original battery it already has some miles on it and if it sat for a month or two dead in the phone then it's most likely toast. You will get best results with li-ion batteries during the first 300 to 500 charges, so after a year or two the battery will naturally loose it's ability to hold a charge, that's just the nature of the beast. A new battery will do wonders!
The percentage that is displayed is usually directly correlated with battery voltage. So 3.200 V would represent 100% and I think it is 2.6 is 0%. So what sounds like is happening is the battery has a bad cell and jumps from say 3V or whatever is 80% right to some voltage below 2.6. A new battery "should" fix this.

check that 4g isn't on or google talk isn't on. Google now is a big battery waster too. For unexplicable drains, check for a defective battery and if all else fails a clean wipe/install. I've had just about all of these issues on the 4 epic's we own.
