Hello all,
I have been lurking out here for a few months now and really do appreciate the education I have gotten just from reading. I have a question, though, that I have not been able to find the answer for on my own.
In brief, the issue is this. My settings within voltage control do not remain when rebooting.
More details. I am running srf 1.1.0 (and loving it btw. Thanks acs devs for all the work put into it) with the genocide kernal (again thanks to the viper rom devs). Voltage control had been working well for me up until a few days ago. I have all the settings undervolted by -25 which had been fine, but now when left to its own devices my epic will not wake and I have to resort to a battery pull to reboot it.
I have tried with adb and terminal emulator to try to edit /etc/init.d/S_volt_scheduler, but neither will allow me to mount /system as rw.
The only thing I can think of is that I recently flashed the journalingon.zip. might this be causing my issue? Should I disable journalling? Any thoughts would help

I had a similar problem with journalingOn.zip, but its to early to say thats the problem,Ill make the dev aware of my problems tomorrow,I suggest you do the same.

Situation fixed. Ran the fix permissions in cwm 3. And that took care of it.

First and formost my phone is on stock eb13 with genocide kernel, rfs, and rooted with oneclickroot v2.5.5 and am still really new to all of this so please help me out.
First I was wondering if I can flash bonsai right away or if I need the new clockwork 3.x with ext4?
Second I was wondering if anyone on this rom is having any of the same battery charging problems as those caused by the new syndicaterom with twilight kernel on ext4?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Pretty sure Bonsai scans your phone and formats it for EXT4 if it isn't already. It backs up your data and restores it, too. Just do a complete backup then flash it. If it is a no go, just restore.

Mine charges fine while off.
Anyone using Sprint Navigator? Please check how many satellites it finds under Share & More/Diagnostics. I have 2 epics, 1 on Bonsai and 1 with just stock and Genocide, and both report 1 satellite and 10% GPS. GPSTest reports 9 Satellites and Google Nav works fine (hate the voice and graphics).
Thanks.
Can't install extras...
I tried installing the removed apps, and when running from "Install from SD Card" it says it is aborted and not installed. Any secret I am missing out on?

So can we just flash this over 3.0.0? And does it remove currently installed Sprint apps? Hate to reinstall those again.

Live Wallpaper
I installed the missing live wallpaper files to the system/app folder on the phone but I cant get them to show up. I read something about changing the permission of the files, but have no idea how to do it.
Help!
Love the Rom so far!
~G
Finally found it. Used Ghost Commander to change the permissions. Live Wallpaper is back but some seem to be missing from the stock selection that came with the phone. No worries.
Okay I finally pulled everything off and now have bonsai4all on my phone but for some reason I can't connect to wifi any more? It does come up, and I did save the ip address, but now, for some odd reason, it won't connect to it... help?

Go into settings, manage applications, find the app and clear data and cache. That worked for me on wifi tether.

Why do most roms OP state to "fix permissions" directly after flashing the rom, when that does nothing... it fixes them in .3 seconds? lol.... pretty sure it's best to do it after setting the phone up the way you want. Where it takes a couple minutes and actually gives you a log of what is fixed. Just curious if I'm wrong in thinking all this jazz.

Probably just because it can't hurt to do one, that and if an issue arises they can be certain that it was done.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Ive wondered it myself. Never do it though. To me its there for when you run into problems with FCs and such. I assume its the devs trying to be proactive for those who dirty flash.
Ive seen it screw things up to btw.

I know what Fixing Permissions does, just why they tell their users to fix them before anything can be broken, is where my curiosity begins, if I remember right even after a dirty flash they don't wont be fixed til after a reboot...
my way of doing things
wipe data/system/cache
flash rom
boot up>let sit for 5 minutes>install through TB or recover data
boot into recovery and fix permissions, which takes a couple minutes, if I have errors.
Congratulations, no one cares.

only fix permissions if you have issues of force closes or log cats are showing files as unreadable... basically if you are having issues of some sort.
also, good idea to fix permissions from terminal while booted into android if you are using a recovery that has not been updated in a long time

Oh, I know how to run and use fix permissions. I'm just curious as to why some rom cooks give instructions that are useless.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
That's a valid question.
I think it's an instruction for crack flashers.
It levels everything out.
Especially, if you are trying to keep your data

********UPDATE*********
Thanks to hardcore,I found a fix in another thread
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1843837&page=4
Using a terminal emulator or adb shell,
su
cd /data/log
chmod 444 dumpstate_*
This sets those files to read-only permissions and that seems to fix it.
Ever since Jellybean instead of apps force closing as they normally would my phone becomes unresponsive and reboots after 2-3 minutes. It gets quite annoying and I wanted to know has anyone else has been getting this issue. I have wiped dalvic/cache also factory data reset,I am unable to do anything in anycut, the phone automatically goes through freeze process, any ideas on how to fix issue?
got the issue too. Only on tw based roms tho. why i only **** wit cm10/aokp. And anycut doesnt work completely with jb yet. You have to use the anycut widget instead
Thanks for the response I guess the only way to stop the problem is not to have a tw Rom,I guess I might just have to bit the bullet on that one,im not really into flashing roms I'm only rooted for hotspot and system settings to change certain things
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
Could always setup the dualboot to have stock and an aosp rom
Okay I might have to look into that, thanks for the quick responses I thought I was the only one, my friends have s3 to add well and was not experiencing issue,I can see now that's for top them not having stock Rom
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
You could also find out what process is causing the bad behavior, what's not playing nice, and remove or freeze that app. You could also try to do a fresh install of your rom.
I was getting the same issues, but I found out that Maps social pin-point (Latitude) was causing my issues and unchecked all of the options related to check-ins and location sharing. No problems since.
When you say fresh install do you mean hard reset?if that's what you are referring to I have done that and wipes in recovery. And how exactly did you find it was that specific app doing That to your phone?

For that specific problem, it was trial and error, but a logcat would help. At the time, I couldn't figure it out. I believe there's an app to help read logcats.
Okay thanks

Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
Did you use the app? It seems that the app triggers a force clse popup if (im guessing here) a certain amount of time has gone by (like the OS itself does, but maybe shorter) or whenever an app goes unresponsive (it comes up instantly)
So either way, its supposed to fix the force close dialog not showing up for you.
I have our installed but I guess im still working on how to use it, I'm going to try to run it in the background

Update!!!!! Thanks to http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=336619
Thanks for the tips guys. This was also irritating me to no end on several Samsung roms. I think it happens on the Note and S3 too. Maybe even the S2.
My solution was:
Using a terminal emulator or adb shell,
su
cd /data/log
chmod 444 dumpstate_*
This sets those files to read-only permissions and that seems to fix it.

I need some help. So my issue can be a couple of things. So I flashed a beanstalk Rom last night and as of this morning and early afternoon I had internet, could connect to Fb and etc. But I also had my line switched last night from being under my ex's line to my own and for a moment then I couldn't connect until I selected some plan. So back to today everything has been fine until I noticed flashing the latest Nos script. It was some time after then where I couldn't log on. Not immediately but I knew since then I couldn't. So my question is would it be because of that script or something on the t-mobile side? I haven't called because my phone is rooted and not sure how to handle that. I also don't know if apn settings may be messed up? Please help and thanks

I have many app ideas, but don't have the skill or the time to learn how to make an app. if you would like to know an idea and attempt to make one, just message me.
Sounds like there's a problem with the script. You could make a nandroid and do a clean flash to see if everything works.
OK so I think it was a script or possibly the kernel. I went to a nandroid I made last night and went to that. Had the same radio and but no script and not the newer kernel and it works fine.

It's most likely the script I had conflicting wifi and data tweaks once same thing happened to me couldn't connect to anything until I figured it out. It was the sysctl. conf file conflicting with the build prop and int.d tweaks I had.

Yeah I removed the script including the sysctl. conf file. Then put the original one back and it was good. I have been running Liquidsmooth RC9 since November as my main rom. Have V6, GPU oc'd, reversed mounting script for external/internal sd, and sound mods on it with kko kernel. I flash all the roms though just to see how they run. I really like the linaro builds lately that are coming out. They seem to be getting snappier and overclocking to 2ghz with the uber kernel is sweet just to test with but not an all day thing or your phone will blow up. Been staying on 4.1.2 for stability reasons mainly. Camera and video doesn't act crazy, notification lights work, and the coding of the kernels isn't out of whack like some of the 4.2.2 roms. Eventually I will jump fully to a 4.2.2 rom but for now I am good with 4.1.2 because it's reliable with no issues.

Hey all.
I have had an issue for a long time on deodexed fc09 roms. I thought it was an issue with the specific rom I was using but think it is an issue with the rom that rom was built on. I am using the stock (for the first time) fc09 posted that is deodexed and has su and I think some kernel tweaks built in and I notice the same issue. My 4g sleeps and does not promptly wake upon an attempt at data transmission. Frequently I wait 5 seconds and often even need to refresh the page or action. Anyone have a clue as to why or whay I can change to improve it?
