Issue with apk and zip - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

O wow my phone is all jacked up. No matter how I put. This apk it on my phone it shows up as a zip. I email it, download it, transfer with cable. It shows as an apk on my pc but only shows as a zip on my phone. Hrmm somethings not right. It is working for other ppl. I try to extract with androzip and I get all the internal stuff no apk. So I tried to flash the zip and it locked up my phone. Any ideas?

Just use astro and open you the zip and inside will be the apk. Then you can copy/paste it or click on it to Install it

No, his problem is his phone thinks the apk is a zip file.

Now why did you start a brand new thread instead of waiting for an answer where you originally posted?
I will try to help you out there.

I didn't want to have it deleted there as that wasn't the original topic. Sorry

it worked fine for me = THANKFULLY !
Did you also make sure there wasn't another vending.apk in /system/apps? Nothing should be going wrong if you're following the directions posted above unless it's some bad download. Try the new market that is out. It's awesome and works flawlessly on my Epic. Make sure you rename it vending.apk once you put in on your sd card. Use root explorer to copy/paste it to /system/apps.
Try installing the app I gave you regularly or try the new market app that should be in the first page of general

[MOD] CRT animation

[DEPRECIATED] I'll work on getting Stock EL29 up soon.
Well, there was a thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1270232
But it appears the link is down. So, for anyone else that wants it I've edited a stock framework and you can grab it below. What does it do? It is completely stock framework other then the fact that the CRT screen off animation is enabled. Push it to system/framework.
Download
This is a zip file? Is it flashable through CWM?

Moved the file to system/framework but phone didn't reboot and if I try to install it, says not installed. What am I doing wrong? Using File Expert
You have to manually reboot after you replace the .apk

When I try to copy and past into system/framework it says that it is a read-only file and cannot be placed there!
FIXED******
When I try to put it in the system/framwork folder, there already is a file named framework-res.apk and I cannot get rid of it. What should I do? I'm rooted of course

I downloaded using the link in the OP. Used Root Explorer to rename the existing APK inside system/framework , then pasted the DLd apk in its place.
Immediately Titanium Backup hit me with an FC, then Market. I rebooted.
When my phone came up all of my sync accounts were gone, including my Market gmail account. Smart Keyboard Pro is gone as the default and Swype is back. Etc.
That'll learn me to Nandroid first.

SD Card won't read on Epic 4G

I turned my phone off and on and now my SD card isn't being read. My phone says it's mounted and I can go into it with Root Explorer and mess with anything and everything, but when I go into Apollo or Google Play Music, no music is shown, and when I go into gallery, no pictures are shown. How do I fix this?
Check for a .nomedia file on the root of your sd card.

I found it and deleted it, but no luck. Still can't find music files and pictures in Gallery.
Did you reboot after and verify it was gone? Also look in your music and picture directories for that file and remove it. Then reboot.

[Q] Error updating Google Keyboard

I'm running the latest Wicked Rom and play store says there's an update for the Google Keyboard which I run. It then tells me "Package file was not signed correctly. Uninstall the previous copy of the app and try again."
I can't find a way to uninstall the current google keyboard so I can update. Any ideas?
If its in /system/app/ rensme it with te extension .bak. then reboot and try to install it again.

Hey Doc, thanks for the very quick reply. I checked the app folder in system per your instructions but there was no Google keyboard listed. Any other ideas?
Then I guess its not a system app. (It may have IME somewhere in the name btw. Sometimes the keyboards don't have the word keyboard in the file name. For example, Samsungs keyboard is SamsungIME.apk.
Look in App management and see if you can uninstall it there.

Thanks Serio, so I renamed it with .bak, ran the update but got the same error message unfortunately.
I also looked in app manager, but it doesn't give me an option to uninstall it, I cleared the data and tried again but the same error.
Did you remember to reboot after renaming?
Go into /data/data/ and look for the folder for the keyboard. Something like com.google.latinime
Rename that folder too. I usually just put a Z or A in front of the name to make it easy to find.

Rebooted, same error. This is more of a curiosity issue and not really a major problem...I'd love to find an answer to this though.
Lol!
