[Q] Skip Google Voice VM Setup? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone noticed lately that when you log in to google voice, it doesn't give the option to skip voice mail setup? Any way around this?

Huh? I only get asked when flashing a fresh rom

I usually sign in and out of google voice on a daily basis. It used to offer a "Skip" button when I would get to where it asks for the voicemail setup. Not seeing that option any longer. It's not a big deal or anything.. just requires me to go into settings and switch my voicemail options back over to my carrier.

Google voice problem

I am running salvage mod 1.1 after switching from a sense rom. I set up Google voice and thought everything was going fine. Well I received a couple voicemails and they keep trying to go to my sprint voicemail. I tried to delete Google voice and reinstall and it still wouldn't work. Any suggestions?

Not trying to be an ass but try posting this question in this thread!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881557
The reason I'm saying this is because you have a better chance of someone answering your question then if you post it here where you have people with all sorts of different roms installed........BECAUSE it might be a problem with your ROM not Google Voice......hope you fix your problem soon!
When you reset it, did you set your voice mail carrier to google voice, and call that number it tells you to?

Google voice

I know Google voice has been giving people issues on the gs3 and I'm wondering if anyone has successfully gotten it to work? I use it just specifically as my voicemail provider. Any help would be appreciated.

Set up GV online first, following all the prompts to forward voicemail to GV. Then open the GV app on your phone and login. Works just fine for me!

Thanks! I will give it a try when I get home and report back.

when configuring the app, skip the voicemail set up
so does this work? I really want to change to google voice because I really hate the visual voicemail I'm currently using.
it works just fine for me.
when i install it i always let it try to do the voice mail change but it usually error's out, then i go to the website and do the voice mail forward from there and the keypad on my phone.
Wow that was too easy. Thanks for the tip!
Ever since I've been trying to use Google Voice I've been getting an error when configuring through the app. To get around this error, simply set it up online. Now it works!
Cheers

Google voice problem

I've had Google voice since I've had a droid 1so i know it worked before. I've had my gnex for more than a year and had no problems (different ROMs too). It just stopped working all of a sudden. I signed out, I uninstalled it. It says my carrier doesn't support it. I've always had Verizon.
I've gone to the help thing it gives me. That didn't do anything. Is anyone else having this problem? If so, any suggestions?

Update: so i called my Google voice number with another phone and it works. But if I call my cell number it goes to my Verizon Voicemail. Idk why or how.

You might try going to the Google voice site. Login and go to your phone listing in the settings. I am next to your mobile should be a link for deactivating voice mail. I'd click that, ignore what it says next and click okay, then click activate again and punch in the code it gives you to setup forwarding again. It sounds like that might have gotten lost some how.
If it doesn't say deactivate then just do the activate process again. I haven't always had the best luck with the app setting the settings correctly so this might help.
Good luck!

Does AT&T have a free voicemail app like Sprint?

I can only find the pay visual voicemail app. Sprint had an app where the voicemail would be sent to your phone and you could listen to the sound file without calling your voicemail. Does AT&T not have anything like that?
Before anyone says it, I don't want to use Google Voice since I want that to be a separate phone number.

Try Visual Voicemail Plus. It even works with aosp.aokp, cm9, cm10, etc.
I ise att's visual voicemail app...not the att messages app. Do a search for it here on xda. Make sure you are provisioned for visual voicemail.
That's the link I posted.

Doh!!!!
I have used this AT&T Visual Voicemail App since the Original Note.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.att.mobile.android.vvm
Before opening it for the first time you need to call Customer Service and have them completely reset your voicemail.
Once they reset your voicemail open your AT&T VVM App and go through the steps.
It works for me every time.
Good luck
Sorry guys. When I said free, I meant completely free. No app cost, no monthly cost (don't want to pay for visual voicemail).
To those that suggested Google Voice, did you even read my original post? I want to keep my Google number separate from my regular number. Am I missing something here as to why people suggested it despite my OP?
Anyway like I was saying, Sprint provided a free voicemail app that would allow you to listen to your voicemails without calling it up. It would send the voicemail to the app whenever you got one.

Did you take a gander at visual voicemail Plus? I never had to pay one cent for it.

Did you read MY post? I linked you an official At&t app that does exactly what you're asking. All you need to do is call At&t to have visual voicemail provisioned and it's free.

Sorry again. When you guys told me about that app, I saw the 3.99 price in the Google Play description and didn't realize that was for an upgrade. I didn't even have to call AT&T to provision. Just started working.
Thanks for the help.

You don't need to use your Google Voice number to have use google voice vvm. I've been using google voice vvm like this for 2 years now like this.
Everytime I try to set gv as my default voicemail it keeps giving an error though...anyone else having this problem?

I use AT&T Messages. It threads sms, mms, and transcribed voice mail. Works great for me.

I got the same error. If you just change your voicemail number to your GV number it will work. Also go to google voice on the web and follow the instructions to deactivate and reactivate your phone.

Visual voicemail

Howdy,
I just switched to T-Mobile today with a new G3 and ported over from Verizon.
I am having a problem getting the visual voicemail to work. when I try to use it, I get a unable to communicate with server error. This was happening on my wife's LG G3 too, I setup my regular voicemail just fine.
Anyone else having this problem? Or do you think it could be something to do with the porting process (everything seems to have ported fine)
Or any other suggestions (besides resetting my phone, I will try that last, but would like to not have to set up everything again)
Thanks!

How are you using google voice? On my handset, I have it all set up as I should, but the "Voicemail Provider" option within call settings is greyed out, I cannot change that to google voice.

Keyword there is "showing."
It's Google Voice. Call your phone from a different phone to confirm and you should hear your Google Voice greeting.

You can also call T-Mobile and have them do the following:
--Disable Voicemail on your line
--Setup the forwarding number to be your Google Voice number
You can also setup the forwarding yourself the be the Google Voice number. After doing this, even if I don't install GV after a flash, the calls still go to GV voicemail and whatnot.
