Epic 4g wifi issue on stock - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a samsung epic 4g running on stock ec05 but sometimes wifi just cuts off at random moments. I would turn it on and after a minute or two it would just turn off again.

Google it.
It sounds like a wifi sleep policy issue. Check out this.

I'm on stock efo2 with ef10 modem
I can connect to 3g and 4g just fine but wifi disconnects as soon as it connects
Its not my router cause my iphone 3gs and nexus s can connect and I went to my friends place and tried his too.
My epic could connect before so I'm wondering what wrong
I don't think my modem failed

Changed channels on wifi router
Both my wife and I have Epics and they did the same thing a few weeks ago. Very frustrating when your 3g signal is weak at the house. My phone had been rooted in the past but I was back on stock for other reasons. My wifes phone has never been rooted. I decided to root my phone again and went to the EE03 modem and gingerbread rom to see if that would help. It didn't. I tried my old SDF rom from a few months ago and it was still the same. Finally I went in to our router settings (even though it works great with our wii, and both laptops) and changed the channel from 1 to 11 and now our phones connect great and stay connected. What really baffles me is that my phone wifi seemed to do the same cycling thing on other wifi signals as well. I haven't tried it at other places since it started working at home again. If I think of it I'll do that and post back the results.
So for me, changing the channel on our wifi router seemed to fix the problem.
Might be worth a shot.
Thx
Ill try that
Now time to google how to
Today after I left my house and left for work my modem just died so my phone was just as good as a brick
I just fixed it now
And as you said flashing modems dont help

damn changing the channel didn't work
I changed from 1 to 11

Channel 8-11 are completely empty so wtf is wrong
I also just went over to my neighbors place and connected to his wifi just fine so I know my epic works

Question... Do you have your settings for your Wifi router saved on your phone? ...My buddy was having this problem yesterday, and I told him to reset the settings and he reconnected and everything worked after that. It's worth a shot if you haven't tried it already.
Damn it didnt work

Try a different modem, like EF02, EE03, or EC05. Or something in your rom may have gotten corrupted. Try flashing a new rom and kernel. Wipe everything first. Or try a nandroid from before you had the issue, if you have one available. Not entirely sure these ideas will help, but worth a try I suppose.

Modems have been tried
And a little while back i cleaned my sd of every thing including nandroids
I dont want to odin either but ivjust might if srf 1.3 comes out

I too am having wifi issues at home. I can connect elsewhere but my unsecured router at home will not let me obtain an IP. Rather than make a new thread I thought id try and post here
I'm still having this problem
but only a select few have this problem and I still have it even after moving to eg22

Bump and I guess the only solution is to buy a new router
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Fixed
What I did was go to cmd prompt
Type ipconfig
Take the number next to gateway
Paste that number into the browser
Google what your router's default password
Now find factory reset
That's all I had to do

how old is your house
I just recently moved & @ my old place I couldnt get my wifi to work @ all or even work on my xbox that was 5ft from the router & then i move out, dont change anything & like magic my wifi works perfectly on everything. i was told it was bc my old place was sooooo old it was made back when they used chicken wire to hold the "drywall mud" bc back then drywall didnt come in sheets it came in a bucket...
Not sure if this is the same problem or not.
My WIFI shows as being connected even when it is not connected. Thus, it appears that I am connected but data is in fact NOT working.
I tested this by choosing an encrypted wifi connection in my neighborhood and entering a random password. To my suprise IT CONNECTED! Nope, not really. it just showed like it was connected, it really showed that I had connected to my neighbors encrypted WIFI, but when I opened the browser to navigate I got nothing. Fooled me.
Any ideas?

GPS turning on randomly even when its switched off from notification bar?

Has anyone had this problem? I've read a few threads here about GPS but I didn't see anyone with the same issue as me.. Never had a GPS issue since I bought the phone it worked fine and locked in seconds when it was new. My problem came to be after I Odin back to stock ek02 using the one click package. I also used the autoroot method to root but I never noticed it happening then. Ive tried factoryresetting from the menu and both ek 02 odin and eg30 odin then ota and still GPS broken...

Actually now that I think about it I'm going out on a limb here and guessing the ek02 hotspot hack is the culprit seeing that every time I run it on 4g is when it happens a lot and that's when it wants to act retarded until I reboot. Is there a way to remove the hotspot hack without doing an Odin reset to test out my theory?

Should be able to remove it from your system/app folder using a root browser.
I didn't think the hotspot hack worked with 4g, only 3g. Hmm..

It works fine with 4g I always use it on 4g. But I think its the reason my GPS keeps acting up. Here's the link it even tells you it has 4g been using it for like a week now lol..

If you have "network assist" on under location settings, it'll appear the same like gps is on.

4G hanging on FC builds

So, lately, my 4g starts to hang after a few minutes of use regardless of what I'm doing. It could be after 5 minutes or after 20. Whether I'm streaming videos or downloading a torrent, the connection just freezes up; and i have to restart 4g to go back up. And i can tell this is happening because a) obviously whatever I'm doing is in a paused state, and b) in the Wimax DM the signal strength and quality are stuck at a particular number (they're usually constantly changing).
Has any one else experienced this issue or have know of a fix?
Ps - I had this problem on modems FC15 and FC24.

happens to me all the time. ill have to turn off 4g and turn it back on for it to work
Have not had this problem with any of the leaked modems or ics builds.

I'm also having this issue. I'm also having the 4g not waking up issue on certain apps. Never had the issue on gingerbread so i guess its exclusive to ics. Anybody getting acore has stopped working unexpectedly? Didn't get this on fc 22 just started yesterday when i installed fc 24 tar.

this happened to me on GB also
I didn't have this issue with the older FB builds, and definitely didn't have it with GB. Now just gotta find the time to test the older modem to determine whether its the modem or the kernel. Yay (sarcastically)...

Sprint automatic connection, under mobile network/auto connect uncheck it.
Ok thanks man. Does you phone go into roaming a lot? Mine does, I had the OG Evo and it was never a problem but this new phone seems like it's always in roaming. I have already done a PRL update multiple times.

I turned my roaming off, you should try and changing your modem.

Does Wi-Fi calling always disable when phone deep sleeps?

It seems Wi-Fi calling disconnects when i leave my phone unused for a period of time. I'm thinking it disconnects when the phone deep sleeps. It usually takes 30 secs or so to reconnect.
This seems to happen on the 4 or so roms I've used in the last 4 or 5 months, but currently I'm using superbeast and TWRP recovery.

It's probably because your wifi is disconnecting when your phone sleeps. You need to change your wifi settings to keep wifi on during sleep.

i just double checked...It's set to always stay on. And it's not the Wi-Fi that turns off, just Wi-Fi calling.

I ended up turning my wifi calling off cause I can't ever hear anyone when it's on. This is the only phone I've ever had a problem with it on. As far as yours disconnecting when the phone sleeps, I have seen it before a few times but it usually reconnected immediately so I'm not sure if it's an ICS issue or what
