So I bought the gameloft games on sale... NOVA2, Backstab and Asphalt 6...
Haven't really tried the other games, but i play asphalt 6 a lot... But now and then it sorta freezes up my dz... kinda random... never ingame, always in menus or when entering a race... Seems like it's not gonna go away...
Has anyone experienced something like it? Should I try download the games files once more?
I'm running virtuous 2 with v6 unity kernel and sense 3 lockscreen... Haven't seen this behavior in any of my other games and i've got a lot of games..
Of course I'd rather not pull my battery if it can be avoided... but how damaging is it? I mean... it can't be that bad, can it?
Anyone?
Sorry I haven't tried running that game on my device, so I can't add anything about that.
But on pulling the battery: no, pulling the battery isn't bad for the device, but it is quite annoying. Something is obviously going wrong if its causing your phone to lock up. If this isn't happening in other games on this ROM, I'd e-mail the developer (of the app) and give them a crash report or some info on whats happening.
I'm guessing you have undervolted your CPU? The game is probably running at your max frequency and the custom voltage you set for that frequency is not enough to run stably. Happens to me too after I undervolted my DZ and tried running at 1.5GHz at 1300 voltage setting.
Awesome tips! Trying them out!

Hello all,
I am the owner of a rooted xperia play with stock rom.
I've installed link2sd so that I can save some ram and space: moved most of my apps on the SD card, and deleted some unwanted native apps (Bruce Lee, Fifa, etc...) and "freezed" the others I did not dare to delete.
But this is not enough for me to play games like GTA III and Dead Trigger smoothly, even with a task killer and airplane mode set on. I suffer from many lags while playing greedy games.
I've done some researches on this forum and found some potential solutions:
- Using boosting apps like: gamebooster, ram manager pro, chainfire 3D pro, etc...
- Overclock the processor up to 1,6ghz with setCPU or other apps.
-Increase SD card performance and optimize ram as explained below:
Increase SD card performance
1. Navigate to /sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0 folder in your Xperia Play
2. Press and hold on the read_ahead_kb file. This action will pop out a new menu.
3. Choose Open With Text Editor option
4. Change the current value to 1024
5. Save your changes and exit
Optimize RAM
1. Grab the Juwe_Update18082011_RAM_Script.zip
2. Extract the file and put it on your SD card
3. Launch the Root Explorer
4. Navigate to /system/etc/
5. Create a new folder, named it as init.d
6. Copy the S97ramscript file into that folder
7. Set the perms of S97ramscript file to rwxrwxrwx
What is your advice? Can I use safely one (or several) of those solutions? What are the risks? Which solution is really effective and will allow me to play demanding games?
My xperia play is still under warranty so I don't want to lose it. Which means I don't want to try custom roms or custom kernels... Until my warranty ends.
Thanks for your help!
Well, the biggest performance boost, overclocking, requires a custom kernel. Not much else really makes a huge difference
Also, I believe using the init.d directory requires a custom kernel as well
Why not just use v6 supercharger?

Did not know about this one...
It has a lot of success judging from the number of pages in the official v6 Supercharger thread...
But seems a bit complicated to me. Does it really works? Have you noticed some improvements in your performances?
More importantly, does it preserve the phone's warranty? I've read somewhere that it can be uninstalled so I guess so, but I'd like a confimation first.
Thanks for your help.
Look, the amount of times I have seen this type of thread open is astounding I would like to point that you use gingerbread any version (2.3.7 Moded to look like rom) and a custom kernel such as Doomlords etc. Supercharge or use a rom like Dike's. You only get best performance with using less apps, rebooting the phone before playing a game, task killers, clean your cache, installing phone eco friendly apps and use a governer for your preference!

No you wont because you have to root, rooting voids the warranty anyway but you can simply unroot after...

I saw a vast improvement in my phone with V6. Its really easy. Just place the scirpt on your SDcard. Download script manager, then select the V6 script, check run as root, and hit go. Follow the on screen selection.
I did the following
512 HP super unleaded (Bulletproof home)
Nitro Lag nullifier
Seriously.... BIG difference in my phone. I could b playing a game and hit the home button.. BAM... there instant no lag no redraw, nothing just all there ready to go. Seriously cannot praise it enough.
nice..
Just to share my experience.
I've bought Ram Manager Pro finally.
I know it's probably not as effective as an overclock or V6 Supercharger, but I do not want to mess with the kernel, custom roms or scripts.
I'm running on stock gingerbread rooted, I've removed the bloatwares and I think it's enough modifications already. I don't want any bugs or troubles with stability so I don't want to modify the OS too much.
Anyway, I'm using Advanced Task Killer along with Ram Manager Pro... And it works! Really.
I was not able to play GTA because it was too laggy, but with Ram Manger Pro set on "Hard Gaming", I was able to improve the graphics (max details, dynamic shadows, 75% clipping and 80% resolution) and it plays rather nicely. It's not really smooth (not like 60 FPS) but it's far enough to be playable and enjoyable.
It wasn't without Ram Pro Manager. SO it's worth trying. Don't expect miracles but some gain in performances, surely.
Maybe I should try an alternative launcher as I heard it can improve performances as well... Any suggestions for a light and modest one?
Also, is there anyway to prevent Maps, Facebook, Crash bandicoot or Super Monkey Ball to start automatically even with task killer? I can understand (to a certain extent) that Maps and Facebook needs to start and connect, but Crash Bandicoot and Monkey Ball??? Seriously? WTF?

Hey all. Just wanted to get some input on getting the best bang for your buck when it comes to battery life. Though I've never been one for task killers and battery saver apps, recently I've been testing out a few different apps. Avast (uninstalled as I've never seen the need for anti virus on Android personally), Battery Doctor, CleanMate (I think It was called) and a few other battery saver apps. However, I cant seem to come to a conclusion on whether they help or hinder. Or if I'm even using them right.
The thing is they all seem to tell me different, conflicting info so I can't really make heads or tails out of it. They all seem to tell me different apps are running in the background and all suggest I do different things like kill apps, clear cache, free up memory, etc. What I have always used is system panel to kill a malfunctioning app if needed, cachemate, and SetCPU to underclock when the device is not in use. Now I am on a stock ROM with root and dont have a kernel that supports over/under clocking.
So I was just wondering what any of you guys to to both increase performance and save battery. Some kind of balancing act. And I don't want my experience to suffer, ex- I like my screen bright so am not going to turn it down to 30%. Stuff like that. I am kind of with the thinking that I should just use my tablet and let the system do its own thing, but then I kinda get that ocd thing going and want to have total control. So anyway, would love to hear what you guys think and use. Also, i would love love love to try out tasker but am unemployed and broke so that cant happen anytime soon. Thanks.

Out of curiosity, how long does your Note 8.0 last?
You know, I couldn't really tell you right now. I inherited it from a friend about a week ago. He thought it was bricked and junk. I just loaded up some stock firmware, rooted it and since it's new to me I have been playing around with it lots so haven't experienced "normal use" yet. I wasn't really asking because I thought the battery was bad, but I just like to have total control and wondered what everyone was doing these days. I used to be big in the android scene, as a power user not a dev or anything, but have been out of the game for awhile. So far the battery seems to be really good when it's on standby or say if I have spotify running or netflix or playing an audiobook. But it seems to drain pretty fast when im using it more actively- emailing, switching to facebook, switching to internet etc. Again, I'm not really having battery problems, and it's a new tablet to me, but I just wanna stay ahead of the game. Sorry I can't give you any numbers right now, but I'm sure you understand.

Do a search about battery.. there are a dozen threads in the Q&A thread.
I am a minimalist and don't like any so claimed Battery Booster, Battery Enhancer, or Battery Calibrator apps that are all over the google play apps site. Most of the time I leave power saver on, and have most all sync settings and apps set to automatically update and poll info and retrieve email. As I do not like to jump through hoops to get some thing to operate as expected.
Security 360 does a great job with antivirus and memory consumption with apps. You may think that you may not need an Antivirus, but this one thoroughly checks apps if you decide to turn off Google's app checking, or use private party apps from forums or developers linking them to sites.
I use Xposed framework, mainly because of the ability to turn off functions without needing to install a custom ROM. I have been there done that and am not impressed with custom ROM of any type, over stock.
Turning off DVFS, thumbnail cache, and leaving Boost Mode alone as it is defaulted off... Is my primary setting with Winam Xposed module.
I use the app Greenify, Substrate, and its experimental plugin to Xposed. It has some nice features to complement Security 360.
Since Google has corrected some issues with some of its apps, and a few other apps have updated recently. I get 2% drain with 12 hours of standby.
Also under normal use, I get 8 to 9% drain per hour, and 6% per hour browsing.
For speed improvements, I have a 633X SD card that has been tested around 93MB/S and 44MB/s write on my laptop, there are some rated double but are about less in real life performance.
I use TweaksterMod Pro from my past custom ROM experiences, only to boost read a head cache to double the default. This only helps with super fast SD cards, the slower the SD card or having congested internal RAM the boost must be greatly increased.
With online video and media, I get about 12% per hour drain doing both streaming and miracasting to tv.

update to 4.4.2 and battery calibrate resulted in 30hr+ battery life
good to read from you andr0id23 and gooberdude. I'm a little sensitive from my battery. since I bought two n5100 for me and my sister,I compare them in many aspects like performance, physical keys (volume,home,..) quality, battery life,... first I thought there's a problem with my battery.I used to test a lot of apps (some you mentioned, battery doctor, task killer, clean master,..) on my 4.1.2 stock ROM.the result was disappointing. my note hardly lasted for 8 hours with normal use (browsing, email checking,no games).it was better on my sister's tablet.
so I updated to 4.4.2 stock rom. things were like before UNTIL i did a battery calibrate.using a method almost like this link.by deleting battery stats after full charge.
I've attached the result.
notice that i have done a full wipe before update and i don't have that tones of app from 4.1.2.only the stock bloatwares and 25 harmless apps and games.this is the best result.the battery was so stubborn to live on its last 3 percent. approximately 3 hours on 1 present and the turned off.
misunderstanding some terms

OK, if you rooted...
I recommend getting Xposed Framework installed, then install Wanam Exposed. It has a ton of mods to adjust about anything. Though depending on model and firmware, some stuff wont work.
If you want minimal... you can get Wanam Disable DVFS... Samsung's Touchwiz has a feature to assist with games called Dynamic Voltage File System. It seems to be the root of the evil with samsung devices. Google has made it clear that battery calibration tools don't do anything to calibrate the battery. By clearing the battery stats file, all you are doing is a temporary patch. DVFS does not play well with Androids battery stats, and corrupts the data for stats, thus giving bad battery status. Once DVFS is disabled, android will properly calibrate the status of the battery. It may take a few charge cycles or manual deletion of the battery stats file and a reboot.
Again if you root, you may want to add RootCloak to allow apps from detecting root. It does it automatically once you select the troubled app. It requires Substrate and allows you to click on a link to install. Once substrate is installed it will allow rootcloak to function properly
Saferoot.zip search for it in the note 8.0 threads... I placed my copy as a file in one of the requests.
It will allow a proper root without having to flash. So no need for triangle away unless you plan on a custom ROM.
If you use saferoot, you can always upgrade to 4.4.x at a later time without having to unroot or do any trickery.
Play is messed up... never worked right on my tablet, both with stock ROM or custom ROMs
Play music does not like a large amount of media on SD storage, let alone full Mp3tags... can't handle the data or just too many files. Also music does not stop when you reboot. after some time it starts up and plays again. Gallery is messed up with image caching. So I used Wanam to disable scroll cache. I use Nokia Music Player as it is the most robust player that is small and works well on a tablet.
Freezing google music will keep battery consumption down if you have a lot of media. as I have over 4,000 files and if any one of them has an odd character in the name, the media server goes ape and cycles a lot of CPU time into trying to index. Thus sucking power like it is cheap gas.
My sig shows what a stock ROM is capable with just a few add on apps to help get things sorted out with battery power. Right now I am in a fight with Security 360... they boogered up the app with Soccer Ads in splash screens during boot and starting the app. Other wise it is an excellent app for what it does. I use it to clean out krapp that usually is not monitored by other cleaning apps, and to tweak boot blocking apps and apps that are running in background after wake up.
Greenify works fine but you may find security 360 an added app cleaner for sleep / wakeup cycles.
great user
mmm.it worthed more than a simple thanks to me.
by the way you use it in a good way.it s about 1gb of used ram on start up for me.and 970 when killed processes.
I'll try those you mentioned.seems very usefull

Hi!
I noticed that in my Tab Pro 8.4 right after turning it on, when I'm not doing anything and just staring at the monitor it let only one core on clocked at 300MHz (using dashclock CPU information extension). So far so good.
The problem is that after some time, in the same context (doing nothing staring at the homescreen) it let two or four cores on clocked at 1497, so I have to reboot in order to save battery.
Any ideas why this is happenening? Does that happen to you?
P.S.: Battery saving settings turned on
It's mpdecision bug - needs root to fix
This issue should be affecting all stock ROM users of TAB Pro 8.4.
I noticed it a while ago and recently had some free time. The issue was narrowed down to Samsung's buggy mpdecision binary in /system/bin and you need root access to fix it. There are two ways to do it (you'll need terminal and file manager with root access rights):
1. Open terminal, type "su" and then "stop mpdecision". Open Root Explorer, navigate to /system/bin and rename "mpdecision" file to something like "00mpdecision". Reboot. All cores will be running at 300 mhz when idle and tablet will feel noticeably smoother and faster. I did not see any serious impact on battery while running this way for 2 weeks already.
2. Download attached mpdecision file from CM11 modrianwifi ROM, unrar it and transfer it to your tablet. Open terminal, type "su" and then "stop mpdecision". Open Root Explorer, navigate to /system/bin and rename "mpdecision" file to something like "00mpdecision". Copy new mpdecision file into /system/bin, change ownership to root:root and access rights to rwxr-xr-x.
Reboot. The issue will be resolved for good and unused cores will be shutdown properly. Tablet will feel the same way it was before file replacement.
Hope it helped.

Hm I'm not seeing this issue on my tablet running the NK1 firmware, though I think I do remember it happening on the AND3 Firmware (saw it under Android Tuner) , I wonder if it was fixed under NK1, I'm curious too - do you know a easy way to reproduce it?
Here is a screenshot of CPU-Z, my tablet has been running for at least 1 day without a reboot, and had some 3D games run on it etc, CPU cores always seem to fallback to offline and 300mhz under my test
On a side note:
I don't run the Samsung Touch Wiz Launcher I am using "TSF Shell" as my Launcher, and have disabled some Samsung apps like "My Magazine" and a few Knox things that run in the background. also I don't use too many widgets since I found out they can hog CPU esp on poorly written apps. ,
mpdecision
I saw this issue on NA1, ND3, NG1 and NK1 firmware. Initially I thought it was fixed in NK1, but it came back in 3 days after last reboot. I'm running heavily de-bloated rooted stock f/w (Knox is at 0x0).
As for reproduction - I was suspecting Flipboard, but the issue came back after its uninstall as well. Seems to be uptime-related. 1 day uptime is not enough for NK1 - please check after 2 more days.
I'm running TouchWiz, but used "MyAndroidTools" to disable several services and startups for few remaining stock widgets and apps. Now I'm totally happy with my Tab Pro - best tablet I've ever had.

Thank you! I've replaced my /system/bin/mpdecision file with yours and so far the tablet is working properly.
I'll know in a few days if it sticks. But, I definitely had this problem with the governor with T320XAR1ANK1. FYI, for what ever it's worth, I've noticed this governor is slightly slower to ramp up. I don't really care, as the tablet is still super responsive, but some may also notice that Antutu and CF-Bench scores are slightly lower with this governor.
Yeah I can confirm its still present in K1, I tried to limit it down to a few things that could be causing it but have been unsuccessful sine it occurs at random it seems
but my thinking its either something to do with
1. video decoding (I watched a few videos) .
2. charging the tablet (I noticed on my ampere cable it was drawing 0~70 - 120 mA idle )- but this could be because cpu was already drawing more power then needed, usually it's 0 ~ with an occasional 30 mA when plugged in with screen off.
3. possibly game / 3d
...anyways I switched the mpdecision file and it seems to work fine now, except for a slower rampup speed like the others said - not really a big deal i'm sure this will help battery life too.

WOW! Finally someone on this forum other than me noticed this issue
I think I posted about this issue in September or so, and nobody else here said they noticed anything. Then I stopped checking this forum regularly... I'm glad to see others have now noticed this problem and have even figured out the root cause too!
Hey what's up fellow G4 users,
Been trying to get Lspeed working with my phone but it just can't for I get tons of battery drain, warmer than usual, no deep sleep at all. Wanted to see if anyone else uses the mod and no issues perhaps? Thanks much appreciated.
Due to unlock boot loader, L Speed Mod lines couldn't write on Build.pro. So its like its not working for me. So I have not using it and now I installed Root booster app on all my devices and achieves higher scores on Antutu. And try CTT Mod, devices run cooler no more heat issue.
What the above guy said about the bootloader being locked.
Your best bet is to kill the wakelock you have, something is running rogue and causing your battery/performance to go haywire. A good start is to download Better Battery Stats and check out the kernal wakelocks, partial wakelocks section, and alarms.
