Hello,
I'm using my desire HD for quite some time now, but i've never had this problem before. When i'm opening the contacts app (if i can call it that way) and then press on the picture of someone and press call or send text message it uses the wrong number and it never did this wrong before does anyone know how to change this?
Thanks in advance!

The number that it puts do you recognize it? Can it be the number of search of the contact? Or is it a random number?
Have you you checked your contacts list in your google account?
Entering from to PC into gmail account
Do click in the paragraph "contacts" above at the left of the mail page

if you´ve checked your google account &
are you sure about you don´t have various numbers in one contact i don´t know what´s the problem
Check on the gmail website and double check a few of the numbers.....make sure there aren't duplicates from a bad sync (i.e. same numbers appearing under home and mobile for instance)
If it all looks fine, I would wipe and let it re-sync.....
I have worked with contact sync apps in an enterprise environment and always found them to be "a bit dodgy" at best.

mmm... you are perfectly understandable (since the first post) AND I´M GETTING THAT YOU ARE SAYING...but i sent to you 3 possible things that can provoke your problem... if anything works THEN I DO NOT KNOW THAT IT CAN GO BADLY...
Have you tried going on the contact details page, holding down on the number you want to text or call, then choose Set as primary number?

Does anybody know of a program around like SMS Delivery Fix (http://www.saman-cz.com/ppc/drfovrw.html) that would show me the name of the person sended the txt message to (getting the info out of your contacts) that works under windows mobile 6 smartphone edition (or how it is called, the one that just got out from HTC for this device). It is really annoying to only see a number instead of the name.
Start--->Accessories--->Sim Manager
Menu-->Select All
Menu-->Save to Contacts
Now, go into Start--->Settings--->Call Options and uncheck show SIM contacts.
Your problem should now be solved
I doesn't show any contacts there, all my contacts are already in my "normal" contacts. But as soon as you get a message saying your txtmessage has been delivered it gives you a cellphone number instead of the name.
When? You mean in your sent folder?

when you have the delivery reports on it you get a message from system administrator " The message you sent to <telephonenumber> has been deliverd"
With the program linked in my first post you can change that, so that it actually looks in your contacts which contact belongs to that number and shows that name. Only problem is that program is for windows mobile ppc, instead of smartphone, so I'm looking for something similar.

Ahh, ok. I never use delivery reports since I personally find them annoying (the other person's phone essentially texts you back to say they got it and usually not automatically)

I don't think this is possible. When you check the Contacts page in Outlook, you can see that you can add two home numbers etc, but not two mobile numbers.
However, when you put the cursor in the "To:" bar in the text message-making screen and then select "Add recipient" from the menu, you can choose a contact you want to text and after that you have to choose which number of that contact you want to send your message to. All numbers are displayed there, even home numbers etc.

I believe that you can solve yr problem with using either pocketcm (www.pocketcm.com) or icontact (I am not sure which of the two). One of them or both allows you to send sms to any phone no. even home no. (it has a button next to each no.
check them out
I recently upgraded to the new official European wm6.5 sense 2.5 rom. While trying to get my head around the new slow default text messaging app I noticed that when I go to add a recipient, the contact list displays my sim contacts as well as a separate entry for different numbers of the same person. For instance, if I have someone called Alex with both a home number and a mobile number entered, the contact list will display it as two separate contacts. I should also add that I have disabled showing sim contacts using advanced config, and they don't show in the "normal" contact list, just in the messaging one.
As you can imagine, this makes navigating through the contacts much more untidy and time consuming.
Any help will be appreciated
is there no one else with this problem? I was hoping there would be a reg fix or something to sort this out like we've had before

Nope, as I don't use the sim for contacts. I would suggest that you do the same too, no more problemo.

I dont use sim either.. ive disabled it on the normal contact list. But it seems to show up in the messaging contact list as well as home numbers and email addresses and these are not all grouped under a single contact.

In that case, sounds like you need to go into the sim manager and delete the numbers off the sim, if that doesn't work, get your provider to do you a new sim.
Hi,
I found a strange little bug with the HTC Sense People app.
I have all my contacts synced from my Google Account but the problem is "Call Mobile" has 44 at the start of the number. Meaning when ever I try make a call it says number not recognised - I think it needs to have +44. When I got into edit contact it has the actual mobile number with 077 etc...
Any suggestions?
I've noticed this, I'm betting the contact you have this problem with is linked to Facebook. If you look at that persons Facebook details I bet they've put a phone number in that starts with 44. There is no way around it unless you can persuade them to change it. It seems that it uses this info over the Google info. The only thing to do is to unlink the contact from Facebook till they sort their number format out.

Thanks for getting back to me and yes they are synced with Facebook.
I have found a little work around though, when you are in the dialer and have their name highlighted use the optical pad to move left and right and it will choose their other numbers.
Ah! That's interesting to know, although I usually select ppl to call or text via the people app, so it kinda stuffs you that way. Oddly it will work for sending texts but not calling.

Hey guys,
i just found out that if you change the number (from mobile to work or home or something like that) it sort of fixes it. You still get the wrong facebook number in there but ay least you also get a usable number to call.
Is it just me, or is there anyway to remove the option to Send a Message to any numbers not designated as "Mobile"?
In my address book, numbers designated as Home or Work still give me the option to Text them.
Its frustrating to accidentally send a Text to my Wife's work number, because I selected the wrong option in People, when it shouldnt even show as an option unless its a Mobile.
Any one able to help on this?

I'm not trying to sound mean or anything but maybe just don't text the wrong number...?? Generally you should probably know your wife's cell phone number vs. her work number.

Yes, I do, and you are right, user error is the most at fault here.
I know my wife's cell number, but I hardly know anyone elses. Thats why I keep a detailed Google address book, so that I dont have to.
However I still think its silly that it allows you to designate numbers as mobile or not, but then automatically gives you an option to text non-mobile numbers. Is it not?
And if it is silly, its something Id like to correct if I could, hence asking the community if anyone else has seen this, and knows of any way to address it besides always pushing the decision on the user.
That's a good point. I thought that was annoying as well. I do most of my messaging straight from the messaging app but it still shows all numbers. It's a bit annoying.

Sorry I don't have an answer, just want to say I'm with u on this. I think its reasonable to expect such a genius phone to know it can't send a text to a land line.
Although, as I type this I'm realizing that more companies are using cell phone for their primary lines and employees. Who knows, maybe we will be able to send texts to land lines someday soon. If a regular phone has an lcd for cid display why couldn't it display a text message... things that make you go "hmmm"
I asked a similar question before in a different thread... but does anyone know if the People app source is ever released when they release the source for the EVO ROM?
I imagine the hardest part about excluding the option to message other numbers would be finding the right spot to implement an if statement. Then would it be possible to compile the APK and install that custom version on my phone? While I would be in there I'd probably address the First name sorting problem
I'm 100% with you on this. I know it's part of user control but it shouldn't have to be.
There should be a checkable option in the Messages/SMS app: "Include Non-Mobile Numbers" and it should be off by default.
I also wish you could exclude certain contacts in the Messages/SMS app. There are people at work I would never text but I have their number in case they call me (I often am the "go-to IT guy") so I know who it is.
Ah well, we can hope!
I'm so with everyone on this..It annoys the hell out of me.
but you know what? I found out that apparently Sprint has some kind of service that will txt to landlines.
txt your home phone and you'll see..maybe there is a way to turn that off i dont know. didnt check much further into it

Yes, I've done it by accident many times. Those who I've texted (landline instead of wireless), said they answered the call and was given the option of having my text "read" to them. In fact, I just did it yesterday to my brother, thought I was texting his cell and instead sent it to his home. His wife answered and some "computer lady" read her my text...

I know this version of the G1's Contact.apk has this option (it was my request of the dev lol)
It works on my EVO (2.1 rooted) but MAN it's ugly after using People for the last few days.

I hate to say it but some people's mobile number is their home number. Lots of peep no longer have land lines at all. If you put a filter on what the sms app shows you would likely have as many people unhappy about that as you do this. If your going to error, do it on the side of making things possible as opposed to restricting things is likely the logic in play here.

I thought the messaging app did have that option then I realized I use handsent and it does have a mobile only option in its send settings.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
i guess it depends on how many contacts you have but you could create a group that only contained mobile numbers. Although if you have a significant amount of contacts this would probably be a pain
I created separate "land" contacts for those I text and that have land lines. Lousy but works.
