I am seeing widget locker priced for $1 on Amazon and was thinking of getting it but I would first like to know if there are draw backs with my phones wake time and battery life? I use CM7 and MIUI as my roms. Any feedback would be appreciated.
anyone????
I've been using it and I can't tell a difference with battery life .. works pretty smooth
I no longer use it but when I did I loved it. Every now and then a little hiccup with the interface but nothing major. No battery issues at all.

I had a few issues with slow wake times, but only occasionally. When unlocking to LauncherPro it would sometimes take 5+ seconds - no problems with ADW Ex or any other launcher/app. All of these issues were prior to the update that included themes, everything past that worked great except widgets and CM7 theme chooser.
I'm not using it at the moment as I realized I rarely would launch anything from it & I'm happy with the MIUI lockscreen. It's worth the full price, and definitely worth a buck. MIUI has the only lockscreen that I don't think is ugly, so next time I switch roms I'll definitely install it again.
I think you should get it.

Widget Locker -> Settings -> "Five Second Rule"
"Widget Locker delayed by five second rule. This is due to pressing the home button less than five seconds ago. Check settings -> Five second rule for Help."
Personally I love it, You can add applications, Widgets(!!!!), and separate settings to your lock screen. You can also set an alternate background on it from the rest of your phone. And there's actually an entire thread with a whole bunch of different sliders for unlocking.

Actually it wasn't the five second rule, I had the root bypass option checked and it usually happened after the phone had been asleep for more than 30 minutes. Plus the five-second rule has to do with loading WidgetLocker, not with unlocking. The problem did not happen with any other launcher or when unlocking to any other app that was already open, just to clarify.
I never had that problem on the newer versions. But I also haven't ran LauncherPro in a long time, so I cannot say if the problem persisted.

I like widget locker but I too would get hiccups so I eventually just did without it. Btw using it on cm7 either freeze or unistall theme manager. They don't play well together.

I bought widget locker and just got tired of the unlock wake time and sometimes unresponsiveness. It might work a lot better on your phone, but for me it became too much of an annoyance. I would also encountered the previous lock screen pop up and quickly turn back into widget locker screen and just became frustrated and reverted back to CM7 stock lockscreen..maybe lack of user knowledge on my part, but did not have the time..you might have a different experience.
Widget locker works great on my phone. Only problem was with my poweramp lockscreen widget. That, widgetlocker, and my phone lock would hiccup.
Had no problem with it.

I really like the idea of widget locker alot, but like alot of others have said it would have lag when opening to launcher pro most of the time.I really wish it played better with my setup cuz its definitely worth the price.
I had it for a while too. I don't use it any more. I stopped because I had some lag time when waking the phone. I'm sure I'll use it again. Maybe the problem is fixed now.
Widget Locker works great on my CM7 rom
I've used both MIUI and CM and haven't had any problems with Widget Locker. They developer has been really good about emailing when I had questions too.
For a buck how can you go wrong? I have to break myself of the cheapskate thought a lot of times. I feel like making app purchases is life or death, but will spend money in other areas with much less caution.
I'm sure all of us have wasted $1 on more frivolous things, like a double cheeseburger.

I ran a few searches and while there are some topics on other sub-forums just thought I'd ask here. Is there a general aversion to using this app?
I've used it on all the ROM's I've flashed and have found that it is more efficient than a stock launcher. It most often runs smoother as well especially the app drawer.
I know there are many who use it here, but overall rosie's get the win on XDA hance all the rosie/Sense mods.
Is it because it is not an open source launcher? Is it the aesthetics? Is there such a thing as "Android Purists"?
What say you!
I love it but won't use it because i love my sense widgets too much and it acts funny.with widget locker

Been using it since almost Day 1. I change backgrounds and clocks fairly often. Wouldn't use anything else.
You lose all the sense widgets. And in the new sense roms which have been ported to the inc, there are great new ones - so on the new sense roms I can't afford to use launcher unless they have equivalent widgets.
I use launcher pro on cm6.1 which is an aosp rom. There it is the better option because I don't have any possibility of getting the sense widgets anyways...

Thanks for the replies so far! I use one widget (smooth calender) and forgot about all the sense widgets folks like to use.
I use launcher pro as well. I think its a great home replacement. Gives great options in settings to change almost everything. I currently just have it set to give me 3 home screens and that is it. I don't need any more than that currently.
I replaced the Sense widgets with beautiful widgets and extended controls. I also love launcher pro's ability to make custom shortcuts that can take you directly a page in the setting menus that may be 2 to 3 pages in. Saves a lot of time as I currently have one set directly to the development page. Have to turn that thing on to use PDAnet.(The 3g hotspot just doesn't work for me very well as it drops my laptop every 10 minutes and then it cannot join it again till I restart the hotspot on the phone.)
Additional Info:
I never really liked senses giant phone button at the bottom of the screen all the time. With launcher Pro I can make the dock look like stock android. Once I made the switch I never went back

Launcher Pro is great, and Launcher Pro Plus is worth every bit of $2.99. It's one of the only apps I've paid for and it has all of the sense widgets; including multiple bookmark and calendar widgets for example. In addition, having the ability to resize any widget to your liking I find makes it that much more attractive. Like you also said the shortcut option basically eliminates the need for apps like Bettercut. And of course the obvious options to change docks and icons make it a fun alternative for people.
Good stuff I've always like LP as well and got the + version as soon as it went live. A lot of proponents so far!
I think i remember seeing something that the dev of Launcher Pro asked that it not be cooked into custom roms

If the stock launcher isn't used, they cook ADW or launcher 2 into ROMs. But you always have the option of installing LP and even removing the launcher you had previously
New home launcher ADW EX. Its just adw with a few more customizations. It's on the market.
Anyone using it yet? I just bought it and its amazing! Everybody post pics of your launcher and show off your personal taste!
If you experience any stutter or freeze issue its probably a memory leak caused by one of your widgets, a quick adw reset will fix it. Just go to the menu scroll down and adw reset.
Anybody with suggestions should email the dev from the market place. He replies quite quick and is open to suggestions.

just finished playing around with it for a bit and all i gotta say is...wow. animations switching screens are so sleek and dont lag at all on my CM6.1.1. no FC's or anything. loving it so far. havent defaulted it yet, still trying to see if i truly want it as my default. only thing i wish it had right now is swipe gestures for each dockbar icon (not just the main swipe up/swipe down gestures) because on launcher pro i have 5 different gestures, particularly: quick compose for chomp and screen off and lock because i'd rather quickly swipe up than long press the search button. unfortunately i can't do that to the dockbar in ADW but instead i've made the single swipe up gesture for screen off and lock, and long press search as quick compose. also in launcherpro i had a swipe gesture for battery use shortcut in settings and in ADW i just decided to make a shortcut for it on the desktop. also miss the launcherpro facebook widget but i can live without it.
in conclusion, this launcher is absolutely amazing so far, battery drained pretty quickly but i can't tell if thats just cuz i was literally messing around with it constantly, even to the point where i would just play around with the screen transition animation for days haha or if its actually a battery drainer. i guess we'll see if it really drains a lot of battery tomorrow, assuming i can show some self control with playing with the screen animations

For those of you interested, if you are upgrading from the "old" ADW, you can restore your old settings by backing up the current launcher and settings config, an use Astro or any explorer to rename adw_settings.xml and adw_launcher.db to adw_EX_settings.xml and adw_EX_launcher.db. Next you can import them in ADW Ex. Both files are in the root of the SD card. At least saves the trouble to figure out again what your original settings were and background etc...
I am a bit dissapointed that such a popular launcher doesn't recognise you were running a previous version and offers the option to import old settings on first startup. Still it is the best launcher IMHO. The new transition effects are cool!

ADW ex is very nice but settings are not very intuitive and are not very user friendly. Now, of course, this a first release and I'm sure things will be cleaned up in updates. Launcher should not hijack "Settings" shortcutin the menu neither.

You can still set the app drawer background to transparent, it just won't work with Vertical 4D app drawer style.
Just set the background color bar all the way to the left.

I don't use themes so I'm not sure if or how they affect settings. Did you try ADW Settings > UI Settings > Drawer Settings > Background color - slide the slider all the way to the left. (a bit late as EuroSpeed beat me to it. This is what happens when I answer a phone call in the middle of replying and get distracted)
My First impression
I got this last night and so far I like it very much. The "vertical old" App drawer style is much snappier. It doesn't lag like the ADW built in to CM 6.1.1 even though I have the background transparent and my live wallpaper running just as I did on the built in version. There are some things that I don't like such as the fact that it has removed the phone settings from the menu button and placed them under the ADW settings. Also, I have the Home button binding set to: Move to default desktop/show previews. If you start at the default desktop, go to settings and press the home button to return home it automatically goes to the previews instead of the default desktop and then the previews. Not a big deal but slightly annoying- I'm sure it will be addressed in an update. Overall, I really like this.
so, just got my phone looking and feeling pretty much how I wanted it using go launcher but I am noticed that either i have a problem with screen sensitivity or there is a problem with go. I am finding that i have to click some icons several times to launch them, seem worse in drawer.
Anyone else finding that the get the audible click but nothing happens?
EDIT: switched back to ADW and everything is back to normal, gotta be an issue with GO..
No. The only problems I've had with Go Loauncher EX is that there was a lag between the start of a horizontal swipe and the homescreens starting to swipe - resolved once I stopped the wallpaper from scrolling too, and in the app drawer sometimes a long press doesn't launch "edit mode".
Other than that it's all gravy...
odd, my problems disappeared when moving back to ADW. Cheers anyway though.
+1 haha i thought it was just me that was having this issue.when you select something on launcher it indicates the touch with the glow but nothing happens?press couple times and it will open.that is what i was having.was making think i was having lag.went back to touchwiz not a issue.

Hey folks,
A lot of people are using this phone with Go Launcher and Go Locker (including myself). I discovered something rather disturbing security vulnerability today and wanted to share it with you. I will also share an easy remedy (which some of you may already be using). So, if you are using both of these products AND ever make use of security PIN/Pattern locks, read on:
- If you are like me, and use Go Locker with a PIN/Pattern lock, at some point you may have disabled the native/baked-in OS security locker in Menu-->Settings-->Location and Security-->Change Screen Lock, because (at one point), if you didn't, you'd sometimes have two consecutive pattern locks to deal with every time you unlocked your phone.
- There's a vulnerability in using ONLY Go Locker's PIN/Pattern lock in that when you initially re-boot your phone, as soon as the first user-interactive screen appears, one can swipe it, and get into your phone. So if someone found your phone, all they'd need to do is re-boot, or power down/up and they're in.
- I presume this is attributable to the fact that the 'user-interactive' areas of the phone load before the Go Launcher/Go Locker combination loads (true whether Odexed or Deodexed).
Here's the solution:
- Setup your lockscreen pattern or PIN using the method as if you were NOT using Go Locker (i.e., as from stock using Menu--> Settings--> etc.)
- Setup your lockscreen pattern or PIN AGAIN in Go Locker (Menu-->Preferences--> Visual Settings--> GO Locker --> Security Lock). I would recommend using THE SAME PIN or Pattern for both.
Here's how things will work now:
- Whenever you reboot your phone, the NATIVE screen Pattern/PIN lock will appear first, before you can access ANY interactive screens inside the phone. This takes care of the vulnerability. Enter that Pattern/PIN.
- Next, you’ll see your Go Locker ‘swipe’ screen, and after swiping, will have to enter your Go Locker Pattern/PIN**. But, this will be the ONLY time you’ll have to do a ‘double-entry’. From this point forward, whenever the phone locks, you’ll be using the Go Locker Pattern/PIN only. The ‘double-lock’ will ONLY occur when you hot reboot, or cycle the power again
- From this point forward, and as long as the phone is powered on, the Go Locker settings will prevail. So you will only have your 'swipe screen' and one Pattern/PIN to deal with now.
- If you are set up as described above, then disabling the Pattern/PIN lock in Go Launcher, will effectively disable it globally. The other Pattern/PIN lock is still technically 'set', but it will only appear if you re-boot or cycle power. AND EVEN THEN, it will only appear on bootup.
-- What this means, is that if you want to maintain SOME security, you can leave the 'base' Pattern/PIN lock active, and disable the Go Locker Pattern/PIN lock.
(unrelated side note, it’s unfortunate that Go Locker doesn’t use the ‘Timeout’ function that the stock locking app uses)
* Go Launcher / Locker takes a few seconds to load, so on your initial boot, if you enter your base Pattern/PIN before it does, you'll only have the initial lock to deal with, but Go Locker will handle the lockscreen and lock once it loads from that point forward.
I hope this helps.
you should probably email the dev.

Im pretty sure it was the ics theme that causes the air push spam... not Go Launcher itself. Although I don't know much about Go Launcher anyway, so obviously do your research.
go locker does the same bootup issue with no pin, just swipe unlock... but after you use the stock lock the go lock pops up a second later and re-locks it... still sloppy though. there is a couple ics themes on the market that do not do ads... in the comments for that push ad theme theres a comment that said its not actually the go devs.... idunno... still wanna know if its the launcher itself doing it...
DL air push detector from the market, it will tell you what is causing the notification ads.

Yes, you're correct, it is specifically ICS theme for Go Launcher that causes the air push spam. I guess I could have jumped to a conclusion on how strongly affiliated the producer of Go Launcher is with the production of the many themes for Go launcher. I should have researched that before making accusations against anyone.

Hey guys,
you set go locker for cool lockscreens
but what about the security
it's easy to bypass go lockers pattern or pin DaMn easily
Just call the device having go locker from another phone
Accept the call from device having go locker
end the call from another phone
call log appears press home key you're in the phone
but the stock locker is nice
You can't do that in stock locker

i'm certain it's not the launcher, i've been using it since day three of ownership, never a push spam. i too would bet it's the theme, and would note that most themes available for GL are not made by GoLauncherDevTeam, and they don't make an ICS one.
i'd be curious the content of the spam itself? that makes you believe it's the Go company doing it?

Install Air Push Detector app and see what pops up. Its not necessarily a bad thing but its a fact that the Go ICS theme (the one with the blue icon) pushes advertising. There are several on the Market now and you probably have one that doesn't do it. Also the Blue icon Go ICS theme and some of the Go Locker themes aren't even made by Go so I don't understand how that gives Go products a bad name. Its a few of the apps that are made for it

Hey guys,
while I'm extremely happy with the phone (awesome screen, perfect fingerprint location IMO, general form factor), I've come across three little problems:
1.) The biggest "flaw": Using another launcher / wallpaper than the stock one causes the face-unlock to be slower. And if you set another launcher / wallpaper, there will be a noticeable delay when you turn on the screen: The wallpaper will take longer to appear on the screen than everything else.
2.) The time between hitting the power button on the right / using the double-tap-to-wake feature and the screen actually turning on is almost a second. Coming from the 3T btw, where it almost felt instant.
3.) I'm not sure whether it's a flaw but it's just something that looks strange: The greyish navbar when using a dark-themed app. (I wouldn't really call this a problem, it's just a consistency flaw you notice, while operating the phone.
So first of all: Do you have the same impressions? It might very well just be my phone and you don't encounter these problems. But in another thread I already read about the face-unlock time taking longer, when using another launcher / wallpaper.
Thanks in advance for any replies and experiences!

There's an app in the play store called Navbar Apps which can fix the navbar colour issue. Doesn't even need root!

Thanks Lum_UK, but I already tried that one. I find it to be a bit slow in overlaying the "correct" color, i.e. the overlay isn't always there from the beginning when opening an app.
And I'm not interested in rooting anymore.
You can force it to just black in that app, which may be preferable to the grey, and avoids the delay issue.
Otherwise, probably not much you can do unless a future OOS adds new options.
Use gallery to set ur wallpapers, do lockscreen 1st then homescreen, don't do both. Using Action Launcher

What launcher r u using
So far I tried Nova, Lawnchair and the stock launcher. I'm encountering this problem with Nova and Lawnchair, not with the stock one. But if I set a custom wallpaper in the stock launcher, the wallpaper-appearing-delay is also there.

Tbh I think the only thing that will be useful is a factory reset

#2 is because of face unlock. Disable it and it will be instant.
Personally i use ambient display + lift up display so when i pick the phone i can see the clock and if needed, the double tap to wake in that screen is instant too

You can turn off the animation in Navbar Apps as well. That way the correct color will load much faster.
I don't use Face Unlock, but everything turns on instantly for me.
However, the nav bar color oscuro the worst and I can't wait to get back to a good AOSP firmware. OxygenOS is great and all but missing very important features I just can't live (comfortably) without.

You're right! This means bye-bye then to face unlock, unless this is fixed. I'm using smart lock anyway. :good:
Thank you for all your replies so far! They really were helpful!
Now could you still say something about "problem" #1? Do you observe the same or is it different? So if you use another launcher / wallpaper, will the wallpaper take longer to load then everything else?
1. agreed, same exact issue here.
2. i dont have that issue. both FP and FU are pretty much instant. sounds strange. maybe factory reset is really the way to go.
3. yea i agree, not optimal.
Hey guys,
I just wanted to give a heads up to you: I just discovered how to avoid the 'wallpaper-lag' while turning the screen on when using a non-stock wallpaper or non-stock launcher:
1. Force stop the OnePlus launcher.
2. Uninstall any updates to it.
3. Use the launcher you like. (Tested with lawnchairs and Nova)
At least for me, the wallpaper lag is gone!

For me this doesn't solve the problem. If the wallpaper is set through another launcher (Nova in my case) and if I use Nova, when using face unlock, i first see the lock screen for some split seconds and then it unlocks. If the lockscreen wallpaper is set through the OnePlus launcher itself, it skips the split seconds on the lockscreen completely and goes directly onto the homescreen which feels much more instantaneous. Also if I'm using a live wallpaper, like the nice new Pixel wallpapers which I wanted to use, the problem occurs even when setting the wallpaper through the OnePlus launcher and when using OnePlus launcher itself.
I've uninstalled the OnePlus launcher updates and tried to force stop it (although this wasn't possible as it seemingly wasn't even started to begin with), but nothing changed.
And yes, the wallpaper will often times take longer to appear on the screen than everything else, exactly like Dimitry from Hardware Canucks demoed in his review:
https://youtu.be/Kf93Nz_bgFs?t=7m48s
This looks very glitchy in my opinion but is of course rather nitpicky.
And as Sangraphim said, the time between hitting the power button on the right / using the double-tap-to-wake feature and the screen actually turning on is definetly prolonged when using face unlock - but that's probably by design I guess, because it starts the front camera first and waits a bit to detect a face before actually turning on the screen.
