Office Programs take more than 1 minute to load

Is anyone else having this issue yet? I have asked this on the rom development page and it seems that I may be the only one experincing this.
I have NRG's 10\28 rom loaded and I have removed many of my installed programs and I can not get the Office programs to load quickly. I have Nrg's rom 10\17 or so loaded on my wife's phone but hers doesnt seem to be doing this.
I am suspecting that it is something that I am installing that is doing this but I am not sure.
I have even downloaded the office 2010 beta today and it stil does it.
It does stop doing it for about a half a day if I reboot many times till it behaves, but then after about a half a day, it is back to taking more than 60 seconds to open word or excell, then about 20 ot 25 seconds to close it.
Any ideas??
Thank you all for looking at this.
Jeff
Takes no more than a few seconds max on my Tilt 2, I don't know man.
Same porb here, i dont think its a ROM issue as it did the same thing on most of the roms i flash. i just thought i was a WM thingi, and the worst part is it takes near 10 sec to open a NEW word doc..

Finally, someone else is also having this issue.
I have a slightly older version of the Energy rom on my wife's phone and hers is always fast to open.
I have been uninstalling programs one by one to see if one of them is affecting it.
What I have found is that as I install a couple, it will start working good, then a a few hours later, it goes to 1 min to open again.
And I am not even opening a file, just click on the excell icon, so that eliminates the bad file thing.
I will let you know what I find.
So do you have many apps installed? I have a lot, to many to mention here at this time, but if you only have a few, please list them and I will see if there are any in common between us.
Thanks,
Jeff
I had this problem on my AT&T Tilt 1 a long time ago. I was able to isolate the cause of the problem to sending/receiving Email over mobile data (wouldn't happen if the update was via wifi). Unfortunately the only thing that solved my problem was a hard reset .

interesting you mentioned wifi, i just observed today that it does not take a long time to open when i am on wifi, then i switched to no wifi, and it was taking lont time to open excel.
turned wifi back on and sure enough, excell opened quickly.
i then turnrd off my wifi network plugin, (disabled my map network drive) and now it seems to be opening excell just fine reguardless of wifi or not.
i will continue to test this ane report back.

Office Mobile looks for any files of the appropriate type (e.g., *.doc files for Word) on your device to open prior to loading. Before reading this last comment I was going to suggest removing your storage card, but if you have network drives mapped it's probably attempting to reach those while loading but timing out if they're not available.

So as long as I dont have my "enable Network Folder" clicked on the HTC's Network Plugin, it all works good. As soon as I click that, and enable the network folder, then it takes forever to open office unless I have the wifi turned on.
Man I have been fighting this for months, not sure if it was a rom thing or something that I was intalling.
I hope that others who have this issue can find this post and fix thier stuff too.

Problem with Wifi hot spot

HI all.
At my work place we have open wifi hotspot. Only thing i need to do to use it is to register on it when connecting for the 1st time, when doing it on laptop it simply pops website, where i need to enter email adress and my age, is one time operation (it records MAC adress i guess). I cant get it done with my Desire, i can see network, but it wont let me open any website, tried different browsers but no luck.
Any clues?
Thanks
Most sites with free access require you to leave the registration page open, then open a second window to browse. So open new window from menu and try that?
I cant even load 1st page, and yes tried new window, changed user agent too. No luck. Bit annoying as im working on the kitchen and could have spotify running all day long, with my 500mb worth data plan that aint an option. I went through quite few different roms alredy, started on stock desire one, now im on latest OpenDesire. My mates Nokia works just fine, web browsing, radio, youtube and so on.
Thanks

Synchronisation between Zune and WP7 via WLAN

Hi, did somebody ever wiresharked the conversation between Zune and a Phone? Maybe we can fiddle out how to hook inbetween and resp. how to transfer data to the phone without using zune. I don't got my device yet, so i can not do it on my own
Peter
I now have something to do when I get home tonight.
not sure what you mean... given the title though, are you asking if windows phone can sync with zune desktop over wifi network, the answer is yes. and i can confirm this. i set my phone up last night to sync a video just as i went to bed. i put my phone on charge and made sure it had wifi on. it started the sync within 10 minutes of me connecting the phone to the charger and zune started converting the video and i was able to watch it on my phone when i woke up and left for work.
Nah, he mentioned wireshark.....wireshark is a program to let you look at the traffic going over the network and see what is going on.
He wants to figure out how the phone talks to zune and see if we can use it for anything.
In all likelihood it uses MTPZ, which is an encrypted protocol, and unless we get the keys, it will be hard to do anything with.

I had a quick look after I got my phone and it does seem to be encrypted, Microsoft Network Monitor even flags up some of the packets at SSL/TLS but most are just listed as TCP. EDIT: Music transfer seems to use TLS.
There is also a device XML file that can be opened on the phone from a web browser on the connected computer, I'll post it next time my phone syncs fully with the Zune Client.
The phone also generates a lot of SSDP packets.

Sorry I seem to have missed something, where did the device.xml come from? It can be opened on the phone from a web browser?
Good to know that it is indeed encrypted.

Device.xml is accessible from the web browser of a computer connected to the same network as the phone it is connected syncing over WiFi. h ttp://[phone-ip]:[port]/Device.xml. I found it when I saw a HTTP request in the captured traffic.
Not tried from the phone but it might work.

[Q]wifi ad-hoc network?

hey all anybody out there is able to connect to ad-hoc networks?
its the only thing that keeps me from using android cuz i use my phone as a link to the internet
I tried some stuff posted in other places but it didn't work
thx in advance
So you want to tether the data connection on your phone to your laptop, or the other way around...?
XDAndroid wifi tethering app - that'll allow you to tether your data cxn on your phone to a wifi enabled PC.
If you want the other way around... bleck, not sure.
i don't want to tether my brother uses the computer all the time and im stuck with ad hoc in winmo,
there is a solution all over the internet like this one http://exop.pro/blog/2010/08/15/ad-hoc-support-for-android/
but i don't know if it will support our phones because i don't know how to apply patches
p.s this requires a rooted phone whatever that means

XDAndroid is already rooted... Comes that way.
You can try to apply the patch, no clue. Never used it.
So I assume the laptop has a wired internet connection, and it's being shared as an ad hoc connection thru the laptop?
I'd say two choices - try to fiddle with the patch, or just spend $30 and get an actual router
WTF!!!
Definitely go for the router, mate.
You are trying to solve a problem possibly creating a new one, but a hundred times bigger.
tried to mess with my system image by mounting it and replacing the files no luck at all (you will get error when starting wifi);
I should go for a faster internet connection such as wimax that comes with a router
thx for support guys
husam666 or anyone else who got this working,
I saw in another thread you got this working but you didn't say how. I tried to edit my froyo.user.conf but I didn't know what I was doing and it didn't work. Can you tell me how you got it to work? Which file and how to edit froyo.user.conf?
Specifically, I'm running Froyo7 on my Rhodium and trying to connect to an ad-hoc network that is broadcast from another cell phone (a Nokia--so no infrastructure available).
Thanks!

Seems Android doesn't support ad-hoc out of the box, which it seems you already know.
I would much prefer to use a real AP, as opposed to anything adhoc. But that's just me.... What is your other phone? That isn't capable of putting up an actual AP?
lol, just read your sig. If the other phone is the Tytn, I feel your pain.
Actually, I still have the Tytn (still works!), but I'm using a Nokia E71 as my main phone at the moment. Too much of a pain to pop the sim card out when I want to use Android and the Nokia's Joikuspot (equivalent to WMWifi Router) is ad-hoc only.
yeah i got it to work actually, i found drivers somewhere, but sorry dude, it's been a long time and i forgot where

If you get the time, could you copy the relevant lines out of your froyo.user.conf file?
I've tried two versions of the wpa supplicant I found, wpa_adhoc-signed from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7674767 and wpa6_adhoc-signed from another thread.
My guess is I was editing the froyo.user.conf incorrectly.
If there is some way to fix ad-hoc permanently, I wouldn't mind integrating it into the build. If stine is cool with it, it'll get baked into the system image. If he's not... I'll just include it with the bundle .
Let us know if you figure it out.
is it possible (in general) to put it in Infrastructure mode?

Not when using WMwifirouter (Windows Mobile) or Joikuspot (Symbian) as the access point. I don't keep my sim card in the Rhodium full time but it's nice to have internet on it when I need it.
Cool, Working!!
OK, I finally got it right. Here's what I did:
Downloaded the wpa_adhoc-signed.zip file from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7674767
Copied just the wpa_supplicant file to the root of the sdcard (it's inside of the wpa_adhoc-signed/system/bin folder of that zip file)
Using Notepad++, inserted the following line into the froyo.user.conf file:
mount --bind /sdcard/wpa_supplicant /system/bin/wpa_supplicant see this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10984380&postcount=1
Here's how the last section of my froyo.user.conf file looks:
# custom shell commands, these commands run last
custom_shells{
chmod 777 /etc/dbus.conf
mount --bind /sdcard/wpa_supplicant /system/bin/wpa_supplicant
#echo 2 > /sys/devices/platform/msm_hsusb/usb_function_switch
rm -f /sdcard/fsck*.rec
modprobe ipv6
modprobe xt_owner
modprobe ipt_REJECT
#echo "Hello!!!" # example
#echo "You can create your own commands here" # example
}
Seems to be running nice and stable with my Nokia E71 providing the internet connection using Joikuspot and secured with WEP. Tried switching back to my home network secured with WPA2 and it still works as well.

Cool! Looks like this will have to be shoehorned into the system - so it'll have to be something stine accepts. Thanks!
this is what i added to my config file:
Code:
--bind /sdcard/wpa_supplicant /system/bin/wpa_supplicant
i had the wpa_supplicant file in the root of my sdcard

Hum... I guess I vaguely remember the adhoc conversations, but I don't recall the WEP ones. At least I didn't realize that they went hand-in-hand...
We probably did talk about it. I've lost a lot of things in the ether... Oh well, I'll try not to forget it next time we're scrambling to do a release .

WiFi WP7 sync to multiuser Windows PC

So I love the wifi sync with the WP7, but it seems that it is not designed for multiuser environments.
If you have one WP7 device and one PC that is always on, like a home server or media center, only the active user logged on in order for it to sync. If you have multiple users they will not all sync automatically. If you use a generic login without admin rights for a common machine it won't sync at all.
Am I mistaken? Does anyone find this strange? It seems like such an obvious oversight and easy fix.

I honestly don't find this strange. A phone is a very very personal single-user thing. Why should it synch its stuff with anyone but the logged-on user?

Because whomever is logged on is irrelevant. What is the point of a background WiFi sync if you have to be using the machine and logged on? You might as well plug in the phone.
If the service is running at all I would think it would sync all users that needed to be synced. The whole platform of Windows is multi-user.
Otherwise if you have five family members with five phones you have to have five machines left on every night to sync.
Ok this is a joke ??? right ??? Five family members with 5 WP7 phones and all want to sync at night???
And why the pc have to be open all night to sync?? ...Its a 5-10 min (top) proccess even with big amounts of data
WiFi sync its another way of sync ..No cables is the meaning of it ...
And yes ..you are mistaken this its not strange.

Have you tried ONLY running Zune on the account you want to sync with and use the "Switch User" function (assuming a moderately newer OS) for other users to user the computer instead of logging out? I havent tried this, just a thought.
No, this is not strange behavior either..... Your just angry because it doesnt work the way YOU want it to work instead of the way it was designed... for the majority.

it is super annoying i want my phone to sync when im sleeping at night but unfortunatly i can not leave my user account active all night long so basically the feature is useless

tried this just now. Once the sync starts I can switch to the other user account and it continues and finishes several albums while I am on the other account.
I was not able to trigger a sync from the other user account yet though. WP7 sync is very fussy though and I may just have to be more patient - or it just doesn't work.
as we know from MS about sync:
Your phone and PC are both connected to your home Wi-Fi network. Note that wireless sync is not supported on workplace Wi-Fi networks.
Your phone battery has at least a medium-level charge ( Battery icon at medium-level) and your phone is connected to an AC power adapter (that is, your phone must be connected to the wall charger and not connected to your computer).
You're not interacting with your phone. For example, you're not touching things on the screen, the backlight is off, and music and videos aren't playing (it's OK if a song or video is paused).
It might take up to 15 minutes for wireless sync to start, and there is no way to manually force it to occur.

Tried this several more times - no luck. It never starts on the other user account. However, when switching to my account it starts after a while. It continues sync when I switch to the other account in the background.

That's really sucks :-( BTW, I hope some workaround should exist... What we really need to do is a capture and analyse WiFi traffic between PC and WP7.
