[Q] unable to backup/flash zip in recovery - Defy General

hi!
I have a defy, rooted with z4root and installed clockwork recovery from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875233
everything is fine, superuser is here, I can boot into recovery but when I want to do a nandroid backup or install zip from sd it says something like: "can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 or /dev/block/mmcblk0"
one more thing, when I try to access my sd card through astro file manager, first it says: "directory mnt/sdcard not found" and then it shows the content of the card....and at the top of the screen it should say /mnt/sdcard, on my phone it's just /sdcard...
what could be the issue, did I do something wrong when I rooted it, installed recovery?
faulty sd card?
is there a way to undo everything and try to do it all over again?
I've searched everywhere but didn't find any usable solution...
thank you

have you tried formatting your SD from phone-->setting-->...
might be faulty SD

that did the trick, thank you

BUMP: I'm having the same problem, used gparted to repartition sdcard which allowed me to Mount USB storage. When i try to mount /sdcard card i receive
Code:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk1)
(Invalid argument)
Error mounting SDCARD:!
Are you using setcpu? I had same message the other day when in clockwork. I had an idea to try to set speed back to stock and unchecked set on boot, rebooted in to clockwork and all was well. Not sure if the clockspeed and and set on boot has anything to do with it, but I had a feeling that it messed with backup/restore when writing/reading a custom speed specified to boot with. Anyway it worked for me on virtuous with 7.28 radio and kings bfs 5
Had the same issue... Formatted the SD card (using the phone, under settings/sd card) and it never happened again.

to follow this up, i was experiancing similar problems
like an idiot i ejected the SD card with the power on (bad idea) and had to format it
the card worked fine under my rom (miui) but when i booted into clockwork mod v4.something
i unmounted the SD card in the phone options and formatted it, after re mounting it the phone gave me a notification that the SD card was an unsupported format
so what i did was click that notification and format the card again
i booted into recovery and it worked, i hope this helps someone in the future

So why are you posting in a Forum devoted to the HTC Droid Incredible?
Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk error
I received a replacement Dinc from Verizon under the extended warranty. My problem is that the new phone won't backup or restore under CWM. I get a notice that "E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblkp1p (or mmcblk)
My old phone was rooted with the 2.3.4 version 4.06 GB stock rooted ROM. I made a nandroid backup with CWM recovery 5.0.0.6. So far all is good. The replacement phone with amoled screen came with GB 2.3.4. (unrooted and s-on.) Following the directions in Droid Forums I downgraded to 2.2, rooted using unrevoked3, turned s-off with unrevoked forever and reinstalled 2.3.4 version 4.06. All files found from links of XDA. (THANKS to all for the great instructions and files.)
But now on the new phone the nandroid backup and recovery from CWM won't work as I get the above error. II read that the sd card needs to be reformatted but when I put it back in the old phone, CWM works well without the error. Any suggestions?

I would first try to format your sdcard fat32, but dont put any of the old files back on yet. Then with the blank sdcard inserted try to run a backup and see if it works. If not try reflashing cwm thru hboot. Also make sure you have superuser and busybox installed. mmcbkk0p1 is the data partition, see if you can manually mount it thru recovery in the mounts and storage menu.

Its mmcblk1p1 he said. That isn't the data partition . I think it is sdcard. I think an sdcard format will do the trick.

[Q] SDcard unable to read/detect after rom boots

Hi, I have this problem.
I've just changed my rom to AuraxTSense. After installing, its unable to detect/read my sd card (no problem reading sdcard in recovery though). Tried reinstalling the rom and i got this error when i do a wipe data/factory reset.
E:Can't mount /dev/blocl/mmcblk0p2 (File Exists)
Error mounting SDEXT:!
Would appreciate if anyone enlighten me. I'm using ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.7, Rom AuraxTSense 8.2.
I may have the same problem.
But I can't even read the SDcard in recovery...e.g. via "choose zip from sd"
What can I do?
edit:
Ok, I think I solved it for my case...
I could boot into the Rom itself, but didn't have any access on the sdcard (it wasn't even recognised by the system). I tried to connect the phone via USB, but nothing happend. By reading through the "USB brick" threads here on xda, I found out that a not accessible sdcard can't be activated by entering "fastboot oem enableqxdm 0" via adb shell.
It worked and the shell responded to the command with an "okay" and displayed the duration of the execution. But I still had no access to the sdcard
After hours of reading and trying I somewhere found a post that advised to simply clean the contacts of the sdcard! At first it sounded to me like some hanky-panky "trick" like (blowing in the slot of the old Gameboy ). Nevertheless IT WORKED
I booted the phone into hboot (vol. down + power), initially on my way to recovery, and it kind of aautomatically recognised an sdcard, showing the following (step-by-step):
Code:
SD Checking...
Loading...[PB99DIAG.zip]
NO Image!
Loading...[PB99DIAG.nbh]
No Image or wrong Image!
Loading...[PB99IMG.zip]
No Image!
Loading...[PB99IMG.nbh]
No Image or wrong Image!
(I think it's the routine that checks for a PB99IMG, the stock rom/RUU, which would be installed if there was no rom installed or the rom corrupted.)
At first I couldn't believe my eyes, but being able to browse the sdcard again in recovery ("choose zip from sd") was the verification sdcard is working again.
So I booted up the phone (took extremely long) and my sdcard was mounted correctly and all the apps, on my ext3 for a2sd were back, too.
And it was no longer "usb-bricked". Without flashing the "usb brick fix" I could connect to my computer via usb. (I'm not sure if it really was usb bricked or if this function was just blocked by the unmountable sdcard...)
Maybe this is a help for you, too.
Thanks for the tip. Sadly not the case for me.
Hopefully someone has an insight regarding the error msg
Maybe your ext-Partition is simply corrupted?
Because the error message only relates to /dev/blocl/mmcblk0p2
Do you have access to another microSD? Try to format it in the same way:
Primary Partition FAT32 and secondary ext3 for apps.
If this works without further complications, you could try to format and repartition the currently installed mircoSD.
Restoring the Apps and Settings from a Backup tool (Titanium, MyBackup) should work if you backup the "backup files" (usually on the FAT32 partition) beforehand.
Greetings
Tried formating the ext-partition in recovery, no success whateverso...
Can't format it using Rom Manager either, no sdcard detected...
Any other ways i can format it?
It should be no problem using a linux-live cd.
Download and burn the cd, boot the linux from it and navigate to a tool like "gparted" or some other partitioning programm.
I would recommend you to insert the microSD into an adapter for cardreaders or an microSD->USB-Adapter...just to be independet from phone-related errors.
If you don't have such an adapter you could try mounting the device in recovery to your booted-up live-cd linux. Maybe the ext3 partition is recognized.

[Q] Can't mount /sdcard CWM v3.0.0.6

Odined 13-extended and still get "Can't mount SD card"
This problem seems to be common but haven't found a solution.
I have looked!!!
Any help would be great!
Clicked repartition in Odin...
Popped sd card in and out and rebooted
nothing
Solved: I had formatted my sd card way back when in my laptop. After reformatting in phone all is right with the world!
Are you using the three finger to get into cwm? That happens to me if I use quick boot cause of the redirector.
Yes...using three finger. CWM starts up just won't give me ext4.
It can't see sd card at all. Tried fixing permissions. Tried just about everything.
Also started with deoxed 13 and same result as soon as it gets to ext4 "can't mount sd card"
Wow I don't know then. It works fine for me using the three finger. Sorry. Good luck
If you are looking to go the EXT4 route, Odin back to stock EB13 and then run One-Click Root w/CWM3. That will convert your phone to EXT4.
[MOD][One Click Root] Clockwork Mod version 3.0.0.5/6 - UPDATED FOR EB13!
Tried that....used deodexed eb13. When cwm3 reboots and I restart withthree finger it should convert to EXT4 but it hangs and I get "Can't mount sd card"
Tried with stock EB13. victory_8G_100528.pit and SPH-D700-EB13-8Gb-REL.tar.md5 USB debugging checked.
File systems need to be converted to ext4.
A backup and restore will now take place.
If anything goes wrong, your backup will be named
before-ext4-convert-1298846544. Try restoring it
in case of error.
Can't mount /sdcard
Can't mount /sdcard
It just seems odd that CWM3 is the only prog having trouble with the card.
Tried a new sd card and same thing so it's not the card....

Installing themes

Ok so after million years I finally rooted my 2.2 phone,
I got the Crysis theme, renamed it to update and put it on my phone via debugging usb , now im suppose to go to recovery mode , so I did once I get there its all blue writing (in the video it was orange) and its <3e> , all the other videos were in Clockwork recovery, I have it and I "FLASHED" it but w.e I do its always in the default recovery.
I select update sdcard .zip ( or something like that) once I select it I get an error saying
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborte
I looked on the forums already for this problem , so I found it and it send me to this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
where I downloaded the update and 3e recovery manager, but I have no idea what to do with it I installed it and put it on my sd card, flashed but im still in the same recovery getting the same error, help please
Im using Samsung Galaxy I9000 (obv)
Thank you
3e recovery will give you signature verification errors. You should be able to get 2e recovery following this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
For the link provided did you place the files on the internal storage and not the actually internal sd card?
The post you send me its way too confusing for me :/ I dont think I'll be able to do that by my self and I put the files via the debugging system, it puts them on internal memory but when I go to "Files" folder its ther
Sorry if my post was confusing. Sounds from what you are telling me that you are actually putting those files into the internal sd card. You need an app like root explorer or something that will allow you rw to the actual internal phone storage. Once you get access to the internal storage I would strongly recommend you backup your efs folder before you do anything else.

[Q] Partition SD problem

Hey,
I have a problem. My SD card has broken so I bought new one (Kingston 16GB, class4) I used ROM manager to install the Clockwork Recovery and wanted to make SD partition. Unfortunately it does not work. When the device reboots into recovery I got just the image with little green android and exclamation mark! I may move in clockwork but I cannot find Partition SD in "advanced".
Do you know what is wrong? Something with recovery?? Thank you!
Partition your sd card with gparted:
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
I manged to partition it after I put my old clockwork recovery on SD. But now I wanted to update my ROM and recovery tells me the same - exclamation mark and text "E: signification verification fail, installation aborted". Something wrong with recovery I think. Don't know what to do, whetever I try I always ends with this text
You need to turn off signature verfication in clockworkmod recovery:
Start recovery>install zip from sdcard>toggle signature verfiy. Then flash the rom you want.
Um...
Maybe you can use VWare to Partition your SD card.
I use the 16G,Class6, but i Partitioned it use the RA 2.0.1.
It is very easy!
