im trying to go back to 2.1 on my samsung epic...how do i uninstall this 2.2 froyo and take this update.zip off mah phone without bricking it???
You have to use ODIN. There is a link along with directions at the top of the development forum.
Also once you get on 2.1 you are gonna need to freeze the apk that looks for updates or you'll constantly be getting the pop up. I can't remember the apk off the too of my head.

If you freeze it with something like MyBackup Pro or Toolbox, I think it just lists as "System Updates".

Just flashed CM6 onto my evo, in the process i lost all my sprint apps. I was curious if the sprint apps would still work on my evo, even with sense uninstalled, and if so, does anyone have the apks?
Thanks in advance
They should work. I believe you can download them all with the Fresh Evo ROM.

To expand on this a little more. Download any 2.1 ROM that has the Sprint programs you wish to install. Extract the ROM. Go into the folder "system > app" and look for whatever .apk you need/want. Keep in mind not all of the Sprint apk's will work in 2.2. I personally have tried Sprint Navigation, VVM, and TV which all work great.

the only ones i really wanted were VVM and TV anyway, thanks
Go to the themes and apps section. There is a thread with the title of CM6 tricks and tips. On the first post they have the apk's to the ones you want. I would link it but I'm on my phone.

the voicemail app with Cyan i thought was the same as sprints vvm app, or atleast function the same to me.
I got the removed-apk's from the fresh thread, and sprint tv works for me.
Stoked.
SPRINT VVM UPDATE.ZIP
SPRINT_TV.apk
SPRINT_VVM.apk

Here are the VVM files I use, haven't had a problem, if you do run into some hiccups, hit up the CM6 thread and "Search this thread" for "voicemail" should find an answer to whatever ails you.
I just put these on my SD card and used EStrongs File Explorer to launch/install. Some people have said VVM takes a bit to lock in to your account but for me it was instantly.
Im curious to know if I can stop the market itself from updating
I am running konis elite series 2 and it has a nice transparent market...however after I agree to terms it will log in and begin app update...I stop all updates of apps .. however after i close out...it seems the market itself updates and sets it back to standars white and green app....is there anything I can do to stop this
only way would be to turn off your data connection, sry bud
Find market in manage apps, uninstall update, then use titanium backup to freeze market updater. Cheers.

No need to buy titanium pro.I found another app called AntTek app manager which allows us to perform the same function which is freeze apps. Most apps which have freeze function are paid so i thought i will tell u about this one.
Everyone seems to always suggest downloading titanium backup and freezing everything instead of just deleting it. Why? We have plenty of evidence of the apps that it is safe to get rid of and the ones that ya better not. So why does it seem that people are worried about deleting them. I am not a NASCAR fan and I don't see myself becoming one so why not just get rid of the app completely? Am I missing something?
Safe from what I have been told and read to delete are :
Blockbuster
Kindle
Amazon mp3
NOVA
Sprint TV
NASCAR
Sprint Football
Sprint Hotspot
Sprint Navigation
Personal preference, if you don't want them, delete away.
I would say from your list that you are right as long as you have a nandroid backup to restore. I have had my Evo start acting weird after I uninstalled some bloat ware so I restored the nandroid and just froze the apps instead. After CM7 final came out I dropped the stock rom, still have a backup, installed the Cyan goodness and have no plans of going back other than install new radio updates. The main benefit to uninstalling them is to free up space. The choice is yours.
Why waste time deleting them? They are installed to /system, so freeing that up doesn't free up the /data partition.

I'm confused , elaborate for me please.
Everyone is not experienced at flashing and tinkering with their devices. Think about it. A lot of people do things to their devices and when they've messed something up, they post here looking for help without stating what they have already done. Telling people to freeze the stuff they don't want is just a safeguard. Those of us who are a bit more experienced will go beyond TB. I hope that made sense.

That was all I was trying to get across was that if you are new to rooting and deleting/changing system files then you are better off just freezing the apps. It is normally safe but most people try to change something before they realize what they are doing, and don't have or know of a way to fix it. If a person wants to uninstall an app by all means go ahead that is one of the main reason for rooting your phone. It also makes it a lot easier to help them fix it if they know what they did.

I've also heard people use the reasoning that if you uninstall system apps you cannot accept an ota, so they freeze them. This way if they want to update, they can just defrost and accept.
I don't understand wanting to accept an OTA, but I also don't understand staying on the stock rom when there are so many great devs making awesome roms.
But people like what they like, I guess you can't knock that.
Hey there are 3 different people from NC in this thread.

I thought about staying with the stock rom at first then I saw what I am missing. I love running CM7 and I have tried others. The main thing for me is that I'm now running Android 2.3.3 which has several features that I wanted and got tired of waiting on Sprint. Don't get me wrong I will stay with Sprint and they have one of the better update records but when Android 2.4 is coming fast and I am stuck on 2.2 with 2.3.3 what seems to be everywhere else. I can't stand that. I only hope that the HTC Evo 3D will get rooted because I plan on getting it as soon as it comes out. I was the first person at the Greensboro Besy Buy that got the Evo 4g and I will do it again.

WTF??????????
Hey guys I hope to get some help here. I hate the newer market, I loved how before you could go into each category and select just in which would give you the newest and updated apps. I want to go back to the old market searching in this market sucks. For example on my phone I search Lakers it says 647 results I click on it and it gives me about 10 apps. I click the little blue arrow and make sure apps its selected and nothing. I keep scrolling to maybe load more but nope. I do the exact same thing on my wifes 3D old market and she can view all the apps no problem. its oohed this on all searches for me. Any ideas or a way to get the old version back

Folks, I am a noob. Please help me. I want to delete the built-in apps on my phone such as NASCAR, Facebook, Qik, etc.; so I hear I need to root my phone.
I have read a lot about rooting EVO 4G here and elsewhere, but I haven't a clue about what to expect. I want to root my phone, have it still look and work like it does now except I want the ability to delete all this crap that is using up all my space.
I do not want to brick it either.
I do not really want new ROMs or radios or illegal tethering or anything else; I just want to delete the built-in apps that are currently undeleteable on my HTC EVO 4G. This is the original HTC EVO 4G, not the new one.
So, if I root my phone, will it still boot up the same way as it does now? I am worried about all these weird command line entries needed to do things that I really don't understand.
If someone would, please have mercy on me and explain in clear terms what I have to do to delete the built-in apps on my phone.
Thanks!

Root your phone, and PM me. Ill give you a step-by-step on how to delete that bloatware crap. Thanks. - Kyler
and yes, itll boot up the exact same way, unless you change the bootanimation or somehow the bootani gets deleted in data/local
If you are rooted, you can use Titanium Backup. Just open it and hit menu>batch>scroll down to in-install all system and user apps>select it>hit de-select all>scroll through and hit the check mark on all the apps you want removed>hit run at the top.

Not unless the devs include these apps in their rom. And after 8 months of constant flashing on a weekly basis, I haven't seen ANYONE who actually likes any of these apps enough to keep one. Neither have I seen threads requesting for those apps to be posted.

Searching through new threads would be a LOT faster if everyone did that. I wish everyone thought like you. (Except for the person who started this thread. Someone has to ask the first question...)
