As many knows there is a very annoying problem when you have your DHD in your jack pocket and answering when someone calls you.
Most often, like 9 times of 10, you accidentally reject the call when pullinng your phone out of your jacket pocket.
Is there any solution to this? surely HTC must be aware of this problem?
Is the only solution to install a ROM without sense?
I'm sorry, as annoying as it may be, and I mean no offence but this is purely user error.

There is a solution! You obviously put your phone upside down in your pocket and when you pull it out, you reject the call. Just put your phone the proper way and you'll be answering the call instead of rejecting it (happens to me all the time especially while driving) .
Now the serious answer is unfortunately "no". You either have to put it in your pocket with the screen facing outwards, or you can use a pouch. BTW stock one is great.

But yes, I listen to music a lot so my phone is in my pocket upside down but I always make sure the screen is facing in then to remove you can slide your hand down the back of the phone (oo er) and grab the sides.

It's not a user error and i didn't ask for your opinion, it's improperly designed software by HTC that have not done extensive testing in how a user handles their phones.
My phone sits in my pocket same as MR_JMM'S never rejected a call getting it out.
Btw if you dont want peoples opinions best not post on xda
Ok, where to start.
1). Have you tried a different jacket pocket?
2). Have you tried a different jacket?
3). How about your trousers/pants? Same results?
4). Have you tried wearing gloves, and answering the call with your nose? Example
Any combination of the above could solve your issue.

True, someone says user fault who runs Cyanogenmod, LOL
He can just slide like iPhone, maybe he never tried Sense?
how about widget locker. The sliding motion is sideway so it may help. Paid apps though.
I think you misunderstand what's happening when you unwillingly answer a call. You slide the dialer with your leg, not with your hand. That's why putting the phone screen outwards would help with that, but it could be bad for it if you bump into something or fall.

Ah ah, that kinda makes more sense, but I never experienced that even before I ran CM because my gel case stops the screen coming in contact with my trouser leg, still can't believe that IF this is a real issue it's not been raised on XDA before now.

Dude...you got it right but the problem is that i have it in my jacket and it doesn't matter if i put it straight down or upside down, the calls get rejected anyway.
It is a major problem and it has been raised to HTC in my country as the DHD screen is very large this problem is more common with DHD than the smaller screens from HTC.
People running CM7 Rom doesn't have this problem as they answer the calls the "iphone" slide to the side...
I've tried Widgetlocker but it doesn't help at all.
Problem is, why have a Sense slide for rejecting calls in the first place? slide it up and the call gets rejected, remove it and the problem is solved.
This is an issue for me too. I have the phone in my pocket with the screen facing my body, and it is my body that activates the slide-to-reject as the phone leaves my pocket. I have to be very careful when retrieving the phone when a call comes in.
Don't like cases, so please don't suggest that.
It is a HTC design flaw - they should have implemented as slide left/right like on the Touch HD.

Yes exactly, cases are so 80's when we had to carry a brick Problem is that Widgetlocker doesn't work for call-ins....it defaults back to sense.
Anyway, people who use original slider(no sense rom) doesn't seem to have this problem as the slider is different like iPhone, god i hate iPhone but that's another story
I bought HTC because of sense, otherwise i could have bought a Samsung.

Well, you rub your face on the phone when calling usually. And since rain-x is made for windscreens of cars, it's unlikely it is developed for 'facial contact'. Since the only time someones face hits your windscreen, the chemicals in rain-x is the least of their problems!
Ah! Apologies, now I understand

I just took a closer look and found out that there is a tiny gap between my screen and phone on top in which dirt fills in and it pisses me off. I havent dropped my screen once and if i push the top left part of my phone i can hear a sort of "click".does that make my phone faulty? Im really annoyed vy the dirt that fills in... send it back. that is what i am doing. left hand side of the phone between the screen and the plastic you can see dust getting inside there to. plus if you press the left hand side tad hard you can hear it creaking as well. i called HTC to see if they could replace it for me straight away without sending it for repairs..waiting for an outcome tomorrow...if they say no i will just send it for repairs and hope they find the problem and either fix it or replace it then...i know it will drag for a week but at least that way you know one way or the other it will get fixed...

TBH ive just checked mine and it does have a slight gap with lint building up already (bare in mind ive had this phone 2 days) Also have the yellow blotch on the screen AND a dead pixel. This is by far the best phone ive ever owned...But my word these little niggles are grating on my moobs! Ive never had to send a phone off to a repair centre before but im not really willing to put up with the problems the phone has (however ridiculously small they seem to some ) You expect some software issues in an early batch, but dead pixels, discoloured screens, gaps occuring out of nowhere between the screen, its a bit much really! Do you even realize how big 1mm is?!!!! Get a ruler and see please....
I doubt even a blind person could enjoy a phone with a gap big as that. You would not just see this, but also feel.
I have a gap that's about 0,1-2 mm big (measuring with paper, which is about that in average I think 0,1 till 0,3 I think but also not sure) and its around the whole screen on both sides of the ring.
Ugh...1mm...
But seriously guys, how big are the gaps it makes you return it?
I mean should I return it with 0,1 mm ? (maybe less) seen a bigger gap on SGS 2.
Hi Guys,
First post post and its a sad one.
Word of warning to some of you guys with the one x.
I had some major screen issues when i first got my device (preordered) and i spoke to htc about the issues i was having flickering, green lines, touch issues and all the heat that the phone was generating.
I was in the cinema the other night and was texting during the copious and irrelevant adverts that accompany any film and i turned to speak to my friend and when i pressed the unlock button i discovered my screen had shattered.
I dont know wether this was a one off manufacturing error or wether it was related to the issues i was having before but a word of warning as i dont want it happening to someone else as it has taken me a while to get a new phone issued. Mine will be going to HTC for investigation no doubt. Thankfully my retailer was reasonable in the end, and when they found out i had already reported a screen fault to HTC the imediately offered a swap out.
Its not a shatter from any particular point, it just seemed to shatter from the middle out.
Before anyone comments saying you must have pressed too hard, i use my fingers for pointing and touching and dont yell "by the power of greyskull" before using my phone.
So if you are still having banding, or non responsive screen issues of anykind be careful. I hope this is a one off, but if it hapens to someone else at least you know your not the only one.
Pressure from the pocket maybe. Ive worked in the mobile industry for 8 years and have never known a screen to pop so to speak. Very strange. Could be an assembly issue with the glass slightly over sized but would still need a knock to set it off.

another cracked screen
My screen cracked when I performed a rather bad magic trick by putting my phone in my front pocket and when I took it out the screen was cracked. To say I was disappointed would be a bit of a understatement.
On contacting HTC they now say that as I unlocked the boot loader not only do I have to pay for a new screen ( I would argue any phone that cant be put in a pocket of your trousers with out cracking is not fit for purpose ) but worse as I had unlocked the bootloader that I would have to pay for a new mother board as well.
I would understand having to pay for a new screen but having to pay for a new motherboard and screen does not sit well with me. If they had said that I would have pay for the screen and done nothing else on the phone and that I would have had no warranty I would have been ok with that
mox: thankyou for implying im deluded, i will take your kind words onboard
I didnt actually put my phone back in my pocket, i have never dropped it and had a full case on it from the word go. I cant see how or why this would happen and would hope its a one off an the build quality seems good and after the updates the phone works really well.
Im hoping this was a one in a million situation that wont occur for anyone else, but i thought just in case, HTC couldnt deny it had happened before.

It's much more likely that you applied too much pressure on the screen by accidentally pressing it against the arm rest or something else nearby while you were distracted.
Ockham's razor, the glass isn't under any load stress so it's impossible for it to suddenly fracture. And if it did, you would have heard a loud cracking noise. Pressure must have been applied. Either that or you dropped it and now you're trolling. Sorry, but I really find it difficult to believe in spontaneous shattering of a phone's screen...

Gorilla Glass looking good, hahahaha
If it took a lot of pressure to shatter a demo glass of Gorilla Glass on a board, then either you put way too much pressure, or way too much heat damaged the glass causing it to shatter.

I'm sure there's a lot of people who won't believe this story. They key, however, to communicating online is this. Apply these simple rules before you post and you'll be doing very well.
1) does what I'm about to say need to be said (does it benefit anyone)?
2) does it need to be said right now?
3) does is need to be said by me?
If the answer to any of these is "no" then probably best not to say it at all.
If someone says something you don't believe to be true but it is not hurting anyone I would generally suggest letting it go. just my twopen'th.

If you meant you scratched your screen without knowing for a fact you placed a screen protector on it yourself AFTER taking off the "I'm the ONE you've been waiting for" sticker, then no, you don't have a screen protector.
Easiest way to check is to get a piece of tape, tape it on the screen and peel.
Is there no such thing as a perfect HOX without issues on the screen when you apply pressure on the sides? Has anyone ever sent their phones for repair and had it back perfect?
Normally you won't notice this when operating the phone but say for example you're taking it out of the case or working out the gym and switching music you're definitely gonna apply more pressure and I can't help but feel that it's gonna break apart or cause permanent damage everytime it happens.

Completely derogatory reply, and unnecessary.
You're implying that every one who has this fault is squeezing the f**k out of the screen.
This is simply not true.
And lets be bloody honest here, what is the point of a touch screen device that if you put the slightest additional pressure on messes up the screen as though it's a bloody lcd monitor?
Seriously?
Am I supposed to put white gloves on when I use my HTC? Am I not supposed to put it in my pocket, just it case it gets' squeezed.
I'm on my SEVENTH f**king phone, and trust me, I don't have to squeeze the f**k out of it.
I've not come across ANY other phone that does this. ANY!
So STFU claiming you have to squeeze it hard. You don't. It's a f**king design flaw. And I'm sick the the bollocks in having to keep sending my units back. I don't want my TOUCH SCREEN phone to look like it's my f**king LCD Monitor when I'm using it.

No. I'm getting rid now. This is my seventh unit. Absolutely appalling design flaw.
This phone is supposed to last me 2 years. It doesn't feel like it's going to last me 2 minutes.
How do you think that screen is going to hold up after 8 months of being in a pocket.
After 12 months?
After 18 months?
Yellow splodges everywhere because the screen has flexed too much? Having to hold it like a newborn in case it gets damaged even more.
Bollocks to that.
This is my final return.
I'm going to have to go with the S3. I don't like it compared to the HOX, I don't like TouchWiz.
But I much prefer that, then having a messed up screen in 12 months time.
Dude, you need a chill pill.
And stop punching your phone.
Get an S3 if it'll make you feel better, but I can assure you that jabbing instead of touching will net you a similar outcome.

Bah! I got my phone without warranty so the most sensible thing for me to do is sell it now and get a new one hopefully without the issue. I've been asking some friends who have the phone and a lot of them don't have this problem. I really thought that everyone had this problem and just chose to live with it.
I have the same issue - but no problem with it.
At the beginning i had "ghost touches" but after i pressed the screen (left side) a little bit harder they're gone

Has anyone reported it getting worse? Im worried about permanent damage but if it just stays like this then ill save me all the trouble and just keep it
awesome how agressive oliseo is. seriously, the screen is capacitive, what means that you have to touch it, not to press it.
the one x is some milimeters slim and you get a hd display, a quadcore cpu (actually 5 cores but offtopic) and you are trying to tell me that that´s a serious issue that the screen shows ghost if pressed? so, i guess your tft / lcd monitor has this issue too, i´ve got seven tube-monitors before i got my tft and all the other monitors didn't showed that epic-design-failure.
dude. seriously.
Not a pixel 2xl specific issue...
But a Google dialer pita.
I would like to be able to have my favorites in the dialer cleared on an recurring automated process.
Just too easy to butt dial.
Just curious, how do you butt dial with a touch screen phone? I haven't butt/pocket dialed anyone since 2010.

Heres how...
Finish a call, put unlocked phone in pocket, screen still on.
The favorite icons in the phone app are huge. Takes nothing to press one.
Do some Google searches on the topic, lots of complaints about this issue.
Its another one of Google's self help features that many wish could be turned off but google refuses to change.
I have used a different dialer, trucaller, to solve the issue but i prefer The google dialer

Modern smartphones use capacitive touch screens which means they require something conductive, like a finger, to make it work. I've never heard of any fabric (except the special tips on some gloves) that is conductive being used for common clothing. I've put my phone in my pocket with the screen on many times and never had the screen react at all.

Hmmm, not sure why you feel a need to debate my issue?
If you don't have any solutions perhaps your time could be spent elsewhere.

I don't really want to debate it. It just doesn't make sense. Considering how the hardware works what you are describing shouldn't be possible. I'm just trying to understand what is causing that. Maybe something else conductive in you pocket? Maybe an accidental touch as you are putting it in your pocket?
hmmm

They call that commando dialing...
I just have a habit of turning off my phone screen when I'm done with it, pocket or not. But yes, phones can register touches through thin sheets of fabric. So, just turn off the screen (or tap the home button to exit the dialer) because there isn't a way to clear your favorites after each call.
