I am on latest nightly (#65). My problem is that Talk app keeps crashing. I've installed latest gapps, tried with older ones, tried to wipe dalvik, cache and install gapps again, even wiped system, flashed nightly, then gapps, but no luck.
All other gapps are working ok, only Talk crashes. Looking into logs I saw this:
Code:
I/am_crash( 1291): [2366,com.google.android.talk,572997,java.lang.SecurityException,Need GTalk_SERVICE permission: Neither user 10036 nor current process has com.google.android.gtalkservice.permission.GTALK_SERVICE.,Parcel.java,1322]
05-07 19:59:42.471 I/am_finish_activity( 1291): [1082599992,6,com.google.android.talk/.SigninActivity,crashed]
Also tried to fix permissions, but again, doesn't work. Looking at this log snippet, it has something to do with permissions. Please, anyone?
Had a quick look and it's not a bug that anyone else has got (yet).
I'm afraid my only advice is to remember you have to treat the nighlties as broken and tomorrow or day after there will be the next version available which might solve it.
In the meantime maybe go back to #64 if that worked for you and this bug gets too annoying.
Sorry, forgot to say that that happened in #64 as well, so I doubt it is CM bug, but something on my system got borked.
Another question: I've noticed that two files I thought should be present are missing:
com.google.android.gtalkservice.xml and com.google.android.gtalkservice.jar. To solve my problem, I tried to push them to my phone, but still no luck. Should they be present, since in xml file there is mention of permissions, what I think is craching my Talk? Also, those files are not present in gapps.
com.google.android.gtalkservice.xml:
Code:
<permissions>
* * <library name="com.google.android.gtalkservice"
* * * * * * file="/system/framework/com.google.android.gtalkservice.jar" />
</permissions>
Sorry Nikola, I really had to have a think with this one and test a few things out.
Try this:
You said you wiped everything but (and I know you shouldn't have to), did you wipe dalvik-cache from the advanced menu in recovery too?
if no and now doing so helps then great otherwise...
Basic - Freeze gtalk with titanium
Less Basic - Remove gtalk from the system using whatever tool you like. Grab the Gaps zip (check md5has match) and pull gtalk along with the files from it and push them back to phone (adb shell for example).
It would be less frustrating if you weren't the only person so far with this issue!!
Yup, tried all that before, with no luck
Finaly, being fed up with all this, I did full wipe, flashed latest nigthly, latest gapps, restored apps from back up and Talk is working OK now.
But still I have no idea what was causing that error. Anyway, this thread is finished and gone to archive, my problem went away, and it is fun living on the edge, i.e. on the nightly
It is the joy of the nightlies. You just never know what's going to happen.
I would play more but I rely on my phone too much (freelancer).
Good luck with the future updates.

So after i flashed RCMix3d Runny v4.0 I tried to download an app from the market and get the error: "app name" could not be downloaded due to an error. It happens with any app I try to download any app from the market. I tried many things with no luck
-clear market data and cache. didnt work.
-uninstall market update. didnt work
- switch gmail accounts. didnt work
-flashed back to my previous rom. didnt work
I did wipe the phone before i flashed RCMix3s Runny v4.0
when I restored my previous rom it didnt work so i tried to wipe my phone again and reflashed the rom and still didnt work
can anyone please help me out here?
what exactly did you wipe? data & cache? use superwipe, maybe this helps...
i wiped data and cache. ill try superwipe
anyone? i tried superwipe and the problem is still there
Check your SD Card
check your SD card, take it or mount it on your PC and do a chkdsk (might need the /f to fix errors). Last time I had an issue downloading apps, my sd card was messed up. I don't understand why that would be.
good luck.

I had this issue when I first loaded mexdroid.
The first work-around I found was to select a different language option after the flash (during setup). English US wouldn't work, but English UK would give me access to the market. However it screwed up my data connection so that was a no go.
I eventually found that this only happened when I downloaded and flashed using ROM manager (first, and last time I've ever used that). Once I downloaded from their site and flashed myself through recovery, everything was perfect.
I currently have this exact same issue, only I went from mexdroid to synergy and back. I haven't tried wiping anything yet but I got this suggestion in my thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19432854#post19432854
Go to Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/All
Find Market, first force stop, then clear data
Next find download manager, first force stop, then clear data
reboot into recovery and wipe the dalvick cache
then reboot system and try your market again
I'm going to try this soon and I'll let you know my results, but if you discover a fix first please post back, I don't like having a broken market!

I had done all that when I had the issue. It didn't work for me but heres hoping it does for you!
So you basically had to wipe everything and reflash mexdroid from scratch?
EDIT: I just tried the method I posted above and it didn't work. WTF, what happened? I don't understand how my backup doesn't work now, shouldn't it be exactly the same as it was before?
I'm going to try one last thing, I have 2 mexdroid's backed up about a week apart, at the time they both worked just fine but I'm going to restore the older one and see if that helps at all.
2nd EDIT: OP, I don't know why this worked and I don't know if this will help you, but I just reverted back to my mexdroid backup from BEFORE I tried the sense rom and everything is back to working. I don't know why but installing the sense rom definitely did something to screw things up. I also don't know if this had anything to do with anything but I unchecked the "auto update" option for market. I hope you can resolve your issue, good luck to you
For me when I tried switching gmail accounts again it started working.
I also accidently wiped out my sd card. That was right before I decided I wanted to go back to CM7. When logged into my gmail account I forgot I had to use my second gmail account, but for some reason it started downloading apps again.
Not sure if wiping the sd card had anything to do with it but it works now. I'm happy

Glad you got it working, I'm happy with my results too but I'd still like to know wth happened to cause it in the first place. It's gotta be something related to google accounts somehow, but why did trying a Sense-based rom cause it?
weird solution
I tried clearing everything in order to get the market problem fixed when I had this same problem. In different orders, flashing, wiping, etc.
Finally, I linked a second gmail account, and now it can download. Why might this happen?
The weirdest thing, is that when I switch to the original account, it still doesn't work. Maybe a security file was corrupted somewhere?
I read something about google market locking somebody out if it thought there where too many devices attached or something. Haven't found anything to confirm that and I still don't know why I got locked out or why it started working again, but if making a new account worked that makes me think there's some truth to the market lock out theory.

-even if i try ceate new google account. not work..
-then i mount phone to pc, and erase file ''downloadfile.apk'' in folder ''.cache'' on sd..it works fine now..
i can finaly download from market again..
p.s. this work for me with new and old google account..

Guys, this worked for me w/o changing google account or wiping sd,
1.)Turnoff your phone
2.) Remove Battery
3.) Remove External Sd Card count maybe 3-5seconds
4.) put sd card back in and battery
5.) turn it on and see if you can download again
I tried all of the solutions listed here; switching Google accounts, downloading an app, then switching back to my main account solved it. Thanks so much!
I had the same problem, going to accounts and removing my google account then adding it again fixed the problem
I added new account with the sync app, open the market, switch account, download some apps, switch back to old account and download other app. This fixed the problem. Thanks.
How is your density set in build.prop, i had the same issue. Changing the density on 200 work for me

Hi, everyone; adding to the flood of questions...
I've been having some issues after a reboot lately:
- a couple of my apps will disappear. Namely Line Runner and the Merriam Webster Dictionary. I did some searching on this earlier and people who have had similar problems said it was due to the apps being installed on SD. I moved them to the phone, which seemed to solve the problem, but:
- rebooting also seems to make me lose my latest Google Search and Maps updates. The market will prompt me to update these. These apps are already on the phone, so no clue how to fix that one. But the most annoying thing is:
- after reboot, several of my game apps will force close when I try to open them. It seems like it's the more processor-intense ones: Pew Pew, Osmos, Anomaly, World of Goo. I thought maybe it was because of the undervolting/underclocking settings I have (from GideonX), but the apps work fine (running quite smoothly) after I install them, as long as I don't reboot. As soon as I reboot, if I try to open them again I get FC. If I uninstall then reinstall, they run fine again.
Any ideas? I'm running Juggernaut 4.1 with faux's 009u kernel and, as I said above, Gideon's script. I tried one reboot back to faux's stock clock/voltage settings, but I still got FCs on the apps. Granted, I didn't try it again or give it time to settle in or anything.
Any thoughts, folks? Thanks!
fix permissions? fresh wipe and install? clear cache? fiddle around
Ah, forgot to mention. Tried all of the above (fix permissions, clear cache, reflashed ROM, even recovered to my pre-custom ROM backup and reflashed from there).
I did some more testing on this, and I think I've narrowed down the problem. I flashed back to stock voltage/clock settings under faux's kernel, then reinstalled one of the apps I had issues with (Osmos). Upon reboot it still ran okay. So it seems I won't get force closes after reboot IF the app was installed under stock settings.
Does anyone know why undervolting and/or underclocking would cause apps to force close only after reboot?
EDIT:
Well, never mind. I did some more testing, and what I thought worked last time didn't work again. Must have just gotten lucky that time. Sigh.
Try wiping your phone with darksides super wipe and clean flash a rom. Check the md5 sums to make sure youre not installing a bad download

Oh, wow, didn't even know about the existence of that tool. Will definitely give that a try when I have some free time this weekend. Hopefully I can report back with positive news.
Thanks!
Don't want to count my chickens, but using super wipe seems to have done the trick so far! Using super wipe before flashing Jugg 5.0 seems to have gotten rid of my problem of FC apps.
Thanks again!
EDIT: Fixed! Posted solution for others' reference is here: My Solution
A few days ago, in the middle of the day (I don't believe I did anything, in between the phone acting normal and this issue coming up, more significant than installing the official Twitter app and setting up notifications for tweets from one specific account within it. I've since uninstalled that app, but it didn't fix this issue; no idea if it's even to blame), my Nexus randomly decided to 'forget' all of my custom alarms and notifications. In the alarms section, the "Ringtone" for each of my alarms changed to the name "298" and sounds like a generic alarm clock beep, unlike any of the default alarms you can choose from on the phone:
(At this point, I'd love to share the screenshot I took to show what I mean, but the forum won't allow me to post any outside links until I've made 10 posts, so I hope my text description is clear enough)
When I tap "Ringtone" to try and re-instate one of the .mp3 files I had put in my "Alarms" folder, only the defaults are available to choose from (and, again, none of them sound like whatever this 298 is either, which is weird).
Astro has no trouble 'seeing' my .mp3's in the "Alarms" folder, so it isn't like the phone suddenly lost awareness of the files themselves.
What in the word could cause something like this, and is there any way to fix it?
The only customizations I'm using are a (I'm sorry, I can't remember which) custom ROM of Jelly Bean that was 'normal' except for being pre-rooted (and a few other 'back-end' things like deoxy-whatever, heh), and a mod to change how the battery looks.
Help?
Not sure what the rules on bumping are, but I have a feeling that from the level of activity, if I don't bump it now, it will never be seen by anyone who could possibly help me fix this problem again.
Radomly? Ummm, try flashing stock rom to see if the problem persists.

I have a feeling resetting everything will fix things, but I consider that a last resort, because of how much work it'd take to restore everything to the way I have it...

Try re-flasing the current rom without wiping your data/factory reset
1. Boot into recovery
2. Wipe cache
3. Wipe dalvik cache
3. Install the rom
4. Install gapps
5. Reboot

I have to track down what ROM I used again (it was from this site), then...also, what's "gapps"? I don't remember ever installing that--maybe that's one of the things that the ROM I used already included?

I think its bigixie. Then you don't have to install gapps (google applications package - play store, talk, gmail, etc)
Don't forget to do a nandroid back first.
I have the same exact problem.
My two custom ringtones are not seen by any Music Player and I can't set them as ringtones but I see them in Solid Explorer.
Fixed!
So my friend suggested something that randomly worked. I plugged the phone into my PC, going into its storage as a media device, blah blah blah, and copied my Alarms, Ringtones (my ringtone had also 'vanished'), and Notifications folders to my PC, then deleted them off the phone, then moved them back from PC to the phone.
Voila, all was well again.
I still think that Twitter app had something to do with it...it's the only thing of significance I had done with my phone that day, and the only thing I did that day that I had never done with my Nexus before.
Wanted to post this so that others know of a (hopefully effective) solution if they have an issue like this.
Do you or did you have ROM Manager installed? If you do, that's the likely culprit.
It has a bug that does exactly what you describe. So if so, be sure to send them an email and tell them.
Can anyone explain to me why i lose my data connection and wifi when I add lines to the system/build.prop needed to support the Sony Walkman Xperia Z? The most puzzling thing to me is that for three weeks, over the course of more than 30 reinstalls of Blue Mynt, I added lines without any problems. I don't know what I'm doing any differently. It was almost routine. I had the walkman from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1986599 with nearly every function working properly. Previously to the last few days I added the two following build properties from these two links without any problems. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2059203 and the attachment somewhere below. (I can't find the link where I got it at.) I had the walkman installed and running with every function except sense me and visualizer.
Can somebody help me figure this out please? I've got this awesome Bleu Mynt ROM running flawlessly, and it's fast as all get out. It is by far the most superior ROM that I have experienced. I would love to get this walkman running again, and then quit messing with it. Lol I know somebody has the knowledge to get me going again. IF you have time I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thank you for reading this.

Not sure why your trying to apply it manually,it will be less painless to just flash it,wouldnt it?I just flashed Bleu Mynt and this... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2059203 ,the link is the 4th post down and it works flawlessly,i didnt do anything extra, but wipe cache and dalvik and flashed, then wiped cache and dalvik one more time for good measure.
You always come through with solid info. Thank you. I really appreciate it. I was going through all those troubles because the walkman doesn't like Mounts2sd. I'm gonna have to figure out how to move them where they belong, because it doesn't work once Mounts2sd takes over. I had been loading the ROM, SuperSu and busybox, Mounts2sd, Crossbreeder, then Gapps. All one at a time, in that order. The ROM was working fine, but the walkman wouldn't work. I could see the app icons in the apps manager, but they wouldn't start. Upon reading your post, I flashed the ROM and then the walkman and Hey, Hey!!! I have the absolute coolest ROM a man could want! I am so in love with this.... You could call it a ROMance! Haha... Thank you for helping me.
Okay, so I spend all day getting things organized and tested. Then I put the walkman together and got all the fc's worked out with sense me and the dnla. The download didn't work, but it wasn't flagging fc's every two minutes either. It's a common problem that the unlocked bootloader causes. Can't be fixed to work. After I got it all set up, I added the crossbreeder and Mounts2sd. No problem. The walkman still worked, along with the sony album and movie apps that I included from the same page. However, when I flashed gapps they didn't load. I can see them in the files, but they don't function. I tried to manually install them and they all fail to install. So I then go back and load up just the ROM, SuperSU, Crossbreeder, Mounts2sd, and Gapps: and It all works fine. There is some kind of conflict going on. I can't find any research material on this subject and I have no clue what to try next. I love a challenge, but damn... why is this proving to be so difficult. I could easily go to another ROM, but that won't work for me. (It's the ROMance I have with it. Haha...) I've tried many others and they don't measure up. I need Bleu Mynt with the Xperia Z. Right now my beloved ROM is working flawlessly, with the gapps, but no walkman or any components of it are installed. It's bumming me out dude. What can I try next? Where is the conflict arising?
EDIT-----> Status update: i just used the fixed permissions (smelkus 4.3) before I loaded the walkman, and after. The result was that the walkman loaded and functions and I still have my google play icon. However, when I innitiate it to take me to the store, it opens for half a second and shuts down. No message of any kind. It just stops. I also noticed that it "forgot" my wifi password. Have you dealt with this before?

Do this in this order: Do the wipe procedure, then install the rom and install Gapps immediately after, then reboot, set up Gapps and return to recovery and cache and dalvik wipe, then flash M2SD and wipe cache and dalvik again, reboot and install this: http://d-h.st/Dsl ,It will ask you to install busy box's latest update and install init.d support,if there is none and reboot, then wipe cache and dalvik again and install walkman app and wipe again, then reboot, you should be good to go,if not i have a solutuion for your sound problem.
I tried your method to a T. It wouldn't let me reconfigure the init.d script. So I went back to injecting SuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE and I just ran into the same problems again. I'm thinking I have something corrupt injected into my smelkus recovery or my SD card. I can't flash a new recovery with PC36IMG, ADB shell, or FlashGUI. I have something on my SD card that I can't view or delete. I have no clue what it is, but I suspect that it is responsible for my problems. Do you know how I can rip my SD card back to absolute zero? I"ve tried everything; the partition choice in Smelkus recovery, Gparted, and Mini Partition Wizard . They format and show zero content, but when I partition to ext4 I have an extra hidden partition with 33MB of script show up out of nowhere at the beginning of my fat32. I'm certain that I picked up some B.S. by gettting apps from various non-market sources. I either lose my data connection or maybe sometimes keep it, but I have no phone Icon to start a phone call and no amount of re-installing apps will fix the problem. I've also ran the team dirt apps2sd removal zip and it says it took script off, but I still show the hidden partition with 33MB when I look at it on Mini Partition Wizard.

Sounds like your sd card could be corrupted, you might need to buy a new one.
Thats what I was thinking too. I just bought a Sandisk Ultra 32Gb card a couple hours ago at Wal-mart.. Hopefully all of my problems go away.

I just checked out the link. Looks very interesting. What catches me is the studio quality sound. I'm into that aspect big time. I'll load it up and give you my thoughts. Thanks man. Looks like a great solution. I'm wondering why I never came across that in my search for other walkmans....
I got the phone as a gift from my uncle in China, it's working fine except I need google apps. From what I've read here and elsewhere I can download the correct version of GApps for my version of android and simply flash it by saving it going into the SD card and entering recovery mode.
I have some questions:
Is there a specific GApps file for the Desire 816 or can I just use any one such as from team android for 4.4 KitKat?
Will this procedure void warranty and how risky is it?
Should I do a back up of the stock OS? Nandroid requires root access and I don't want to root the phone unnecessarily. Also the methods for system back up without root such as holo backup seem unreliable for some devices. Has anyone done a back up for the Desire 816 with holo/Ultimate Backup Tool?

I have some questions:
Is there a specific GApps file for the Desire 816 or can I just use any one such as from team android for 4.4 KitKat?
Will this procedure void warranty and how risky is it?
Should I do a back up of the stock OS? Nandroid requires root access and I don't want to root the phone unnecessarily. Also the methods for system back up without root such as holo backup seem unreliable for some devices. Has anyone done a back up for the Desire 816 with holo/Ultimate Backup Tool?
Device Specifications
Android Version: 4.4.2
HTC Sense 5.5
ROM 1.31.1403.1
Kernel Version: 3.4.0-g77ac3fc

If you want to install the Gaaps, you should have clockworkmod recovery for sure, which requires unlocking your bootloader and rooting. Once you do that you will loose warranty. But do you really think that you ever claim for warranty ? I have used 11 smart phones so far and never went back to the vendor for any issues. I completely relied on XDA forum and never got disheartened. Anyways, thats your choice, whether to live without google apps in your smartphone until your warranty period expires and live like a king by rooting and installing the gapps? If you choose the later option, then start with unlocking the bootloader, followed by rooting, followed by custom recovery installation and then gaaps zip installation.
Btw, use the gapps from the following link http://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=10238 rather than the one you found that are for cyanogenmod roms.

Thanks for the advice. I wound up rooting the phone with Clockwork Recovery Mod. I've tried flashing the gapps-kk-20140606-signed.zip file that you linked, the flashing completes successfully and the phone boots. However as soon as I try to go past the lock screen the error message "Setup wizard has stopped working" is repeated on loop. I did a system restore, tried a package from here to the same effect. I saw a post where someone had a similar issue and did something along the lines of wiping user data and dalvik however for the life of me I can't find it again.
EDIT******
Nevermind, I did a full system restore, wiped Dalvik, Cache, User Data then flashed the modular gapps package I got from the second link I mentioned. I then wiped everything again and started the phone. Went through initial set up and now everything seems fine. Will update if google apps starts playing up.
EDIT # 2
Play store doesn't work properly Will try again in the morning using the package you suggested.

Sorry to note the hiccups you are facing dude. I should have told you about setupwizard thingy, which I learnt about it ages ago. My sincere apologies. Flashing gapps on chinese roms will corrupt the existing setup wizard. So the work around for this is to, backup that system apk, using titanium backup or any other popular ones and then reinstall it once the gapps are installed. But now that you confirmed it working, I am now bit relaxed. But yeah so sorry for that.
Re your play store apk, Google has updated his play store apk recently. Try the new version apk from http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...issions-bigger-buttons-and-more-apk-download/ and then go to Apps, playstore and delete data and cache. Wipe dalvik cache (optional) from the recovery and then try if it works. I am sure it should work without having to delete all this caches and data, but yours being chinese version mobile and had troubles before with it, try those tricks.
All the best.

Thanks again, I followed your advice and my apps now seem to be working ok. I think play store is a little unstable still, I occasionally get errors attempting to download apps (Error 904 I think) but those go away if I just restart the download. I had Facebook messenger force close once but that was when it was going through its tutorial mode. It's now also working fine.
Unfortunately this process seems to break the FM Radio app which is a minor blow, attempting to back up and restore with Titanium Backup gives the message "App was not installed". Same applies when restoring setup. I'm not sure if having a corrupt set up wizard will create problems for me in the future.
The only thing I can think of which would cause the problems restoring system apps is that I didn't apply the wp_mod.ko which is recommended as part of this root procedure. That's meant to allow me to write to the system. The instructions for doing so weren't particularly clear and everything else seemed to be working at the time so I skipped it (I know, probably not the best idea).
Any advice would be appreciated, however right now I'm pretty happy with the rest of my phone working with google apps! I'm also investigating whether spiritFM will work as an alternative to the stock radio app.

Thanks for updating us with your issues. I think by your description, i can see that it could be cache's problem. What I usually do is, when you install any rom via backup, I try to do factory reset twice from the systems setting and security. This will eliminate all the cache issues that you are facing with google play and fmradio. If you cannot restore the factory settings for any reason, I would then try going to settings --> Apps --> find google play app - -> delete the data and clear cache. This will make you to re enter your google account again. Hopefully, your google play should work fine. Apply the same trick to your fmradio too and see if it makes any difference ?
Hit thanks if it works, so that others would learn from your experience and know that this trick worked.

Unfortunately it didn't fix the radio. Play store was working though.
