[Q] Switch ROM and back - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently running SR4 plus a few mods and I like it. What I want to do is try out a couple other ROMs but eventually come back to the setup I have now.
Can I make a Nandroid backup of my current setup, wipe all and flash a new ROM, then when I'm done just wipe all again and do a Nandroid restore and be back where I was before flashing the other ROM?
Sorry if a noob question, just like to tinker around with my Incredible

Yep your backup takes you right back where you were when you made it.

Thanks for the reply, just wanted to make sure to be safe first before thinking it works one way when it really works a different way.

No problem!

Yup, I do that all the time when I get in the mood and MUST flash a new ROM. Works like, well, clockwork!

If you want to keep your apps download and run titanium backup. Do a full wipe and clear cache. Install your Rom and afterwards reload titanium backup and install your missing apps. I am running virus sense 4.2 and it runs great. You Shouldnt have any trouble.
Edit...
I do not use Rom manager because I prefer psfmod recovery.
Are you fully rooted with s off on the boot loader?
Before flashing any Rom make a nanroid just incase something goes wrong

I am considering flashing to virus Rom. I have a few questions first though.
I rooted with unrevoked, will I be fine?
When I flash will my apps be there if I saved them to the SD card?
Is Rom manager good to use?
Is there anything else I should know before I root.
Thanks in advance

So you are or are not rooted first you said you rooted with unrevoked then at last you ask if there is anything else you need to know before root. Moving on if you are rooted go to the market and download titanium backup use the batch option to save all your apps then after you flash new room use batch to restore all apps I'd you are not rooted you will lose your apps there are apps in the market like app monster that let you back up apps but you will lose your link to the market. Unrevoked will be fine that's whati used as long as its compatible with your phone if already rooted your good. Room manager is good if you use clockwork recovery. Its only compatible with clockwork. You should look up his to back up rsa keys very important if you want 4g. Always backup your phone before you do ANY Mods this will save you allot of heart ach. And last try not to offer money this can be bad In the end but up to you and I don't want any just want to help

As long as you do not flash a the wimax radio you should never worry about this. But you should back it up just incase.

[Q] What I'm doin wrong????????

So guys this is what I need to know
I want to know if the recovery that u use affect the internet of your phone cuz I was using workclokmod and I was running elite3 and the internet speed was pretty good and even the xda app was loading fast just 2 days ago and 2day I flash the ra_ recovery 2.3 and I flash the same Rom but the internet was acting gay and even the xda app was taking 4 ever to load so I want to know if the recovery method affect this or what
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Perhaps just crappy signal as of late, but your recovery has no effect on your internet speeds.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong...but I don't believe the recovery you use has any effect on your internet...you could have had a bad flash...but that's all I can come up with...I'm no dev tho

Was it the same rom version and kernel and all that?...no difference?

Try a full wipe, wipe dalvik separately, then re-flash. Also make sure you're using a good kernel for your rom. I recommend netarchy for Sense or Savaged Zen for AOSP

Personally I'd add Tiamat for AOSP roms as well.
But like o said before when I was using clockworkmod the Rom was running perfect and there is something else I still using the backup that I did wit titanium backup

Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of Titanium Backup. But like I said, try doing a complete wipe of everything, wipe dalvik twice (for good measure), and re-flash. Also try just re-downloading your apps instead of using the backup program.
And ffs, sync with your Google account. It will save you a ****load of time

[Q] GPS fix question

I know you have to flash to a sense rom then back to what you want to use... now after I do the fox can I flash the nandroid restore?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
You're right on point.
Did you try this fix? It works for most people without the need of flashing back a sense rom.
I just wasn't sure flashing the whole nandroid backup to the phone of it would over write the fix. Lol

Nandroid Backup Error... Need help....

I am currently using ClockWorkMod Recovery 6.0.1.2. The last few times I have tried to backup a ROM, I get : Error finding an appropriate backup handler. This happens at the end of the backup after it looks like everything is okay. Does anybody know what this means and how it can be corrected? I don't like flashing new ROM's without doing a Nandroid Backup. Any help would be greatly appreciated.... Thank you!

Try Twrp recovery?
I should... I feel like I'm betraying CWM if I go to the other side. Is it the shizzle?

You need to take that avatar down and put one up of Jesse "shizzle" would never come out of Heisenberg's mouth. But yes it is better imo and lots of others. Has a better track record with this phone as well. Install it through goomanager from the play store.

I agree about TWRP. Boyh are great in their own right, but I prefer TWRP by a longshot! Even has a built in file manager!
Don't worry, we were all nervous our first times!!
Seriously though, only took a few min and I was hooked!
On your problem, does cwm see both int and ext sdcards?
If it comes to it, connect to pc over usb and adb pull both /system and /data. Also internal sd.
At least you'll have some sort of backup and then id suggest odin flashing stock firmware.
Good luck!

Backups were glitchy for me on cwm. I switched to TWRP and there's no looking back for me.
Im going to try twrp and see how it works. Thanks
I'm on cwm and backups have been fine. Why don't you redownload cwm and make sure you rwflash your appropriate recovery. I've NEVER had problems with cwm unless I messed with the folder or something.

Another vote to just switch to twrp. It is superior in every way.

Nothing against twrp but what's the point of troubleshooting if you're not going g to troubleshoot? If someone really likes a particular recovery why not help them get it working instead of making the decision for them?

thanks guys
To add another option; did you make your backup to .tar format? That was my issue when I first rooted my phone, couldn't restore anything, kinda panicked...
