Here is what I'm looking for:
A rom that's close to stock, is stable, runs on RFS, but tweaked to improve battery life. I don't care about benchmarks, non interested in overclocking or extra eye candy.
Any suggestions?
Try the Stock ec05 noCIQ rom in the development section. I'm using it and I've been getting awesome battery life. Plus if you wanted you can theme it as well.

Any EXT4 ROM kicks ass all over RFS. And SRF1.1.1 will have some extra-tuned options for the fastest possible journaled file system.

As for the matter at hand, I have never gotten even close to decent battery life on anything resembling stock. I guess I've never even tried RFS(besides Syndicate 2.1 ofcourse )but with that said, I've been getting 20+ on Cyanogenmod RC4. But I guess that doesn't really help you!
My nociq rom rfs is gonna the best battery you can get out of rfs... but as stated before... rfs is wsated battery due to the xrs layer... we don't need extra protection on top on what tsfr already does...
Anyway, I am working on a zip release of ec05 plus that will be extr/rfs and ext4 will have journaling on or off options, or journaling data only... and I have found that journaling data only is the best medium for battery/performance/stability....

Well, Twilight Zone 1.1.1 itself is awfully nice... but, we've also got an official version of recovery, both three-finger and adb reboot recovery (none of that redirect BS). ADB even works in the reboot recovery version, and the kernel team is looking at more.
The ROM side of 1.1.1... There's definitely battery life increases to be had there.

I've got a good bit in the ROM. How far the kernel will go is up to the kernel team.
Thanks for all the opinions here. Hadn't noticed the noCIQ stock rom, think I'll give it a try.
I've haven't had much luck with EXT4 roms. They all seem to last about 4 days and then they start getting crashy. I know it's verging on a religious discussion, but RFS has always been more stable on my phone. I've been on a stock EC05 with a few of Mckasick's patches on it for several weeks now and I really like it. If I can just bump up the battery life a bit I'd be happy.........until ginger comes out, anyway.

Running snaps 7.5 or. 6 don't recall ATM but the battery life is crazy
from the fade
Kings #9 is pretty close to the new stock kernel ...
I'm having the best luck with Netarchy's 4.1.9.1 beta on my 002 EVO. I don't even have to use SetCPU to underclock for more battery that's how nice the kernel is.
I agree with cMeka
I am running Baked Snack 1.7 ROM with Kings BFS#9 kernel and the battery life is awesome.
P.S. Battery life got even better on Kings #9 after uninstalling SetCPU. SetCPU interferes with H/AVS and defeats the purpose.
Good Luck!

no, it isnt. none of the king kernels are. they are waaaay out of date, and it turns out, kingklick just stole most of the code from other devs. either use netarchy's newest, or ziggy's newest. thats mostly all you have for sense.
Personally, any sense rom can drain battery, but the best i have seen is Baked Battery Kernel. Awesome battery life and it is very fast.

oh not ota 3.70 based. that's probably why it works. any kernel not 15 based usually gets terrible results on 3.70 ota so i guess you found a loophole there . i did hear very good things about that kernel so glad to know it can still be applied to good work.

DK28 is the newest stuff we have. Nothing from December. :-(
I prefer Bonsai4All with ext4. You can do Bonsai4All (and many of the other ext4 roms) without switching the file system, too, if you don't want to mess with that.
I'd also recommend Bonsai4all. Great improvements everywhere.

Because it isn't finished yet. Video playing and recording are broken, while the camera doesn't have full functionality yet. Plus, it's still prebeta, although it's been pretty stable for me.
I suspect if the user is asking this question, they want something stable and are unwilling to take the time to try to see what's their personal favourite.
I recommend Bonsai4All and NebulaROM. They have been the most stable, have given me the best battery life, and the least amount of issues.
Video playing and the camera do work. Just no video recording. Honestly can't remember the last time I took a video though.
I don't know, good enough for my daily driver. I guess the little things may be more important to others though.
I like bonsai and quantum. Both are good.

stability wise:
Dl18 roms
1. Baked snacks 1.6 undisputed
2. Andromeda Galaxy 1.1.1a
3. Syndicate Rom
2 a 3 can be swapped
The dk28 froyo leak has bugs you might not want to deal with like if you dont flash the modem, lock gps, then flash dk28 the gps doesnt work... when you call ppl often you hear nothing unless you turn on/off speaker phone real quick.. and other crap thats not really worth the added flash support (youtube app still works on the dl18 roms just webpage flash videos dont)
But if you -really- want a dk28 rom i'd go with Bonsai4All themed. Its sexy. If you don't feel like dealing with EXT4 or CWM3 then epic experience is nice too.

Syndicate Frozen 1.2 is best IMO (for now).
Less ppl seem to experience problems on it since its a ROM that's been worked on for a while, not to mention its branded with the legendary "ACS quality." AA's 2.3 Gingerbread EXT4 is also really good, but I will wait for an official release of 2.3 before I cross over. Either one is fully functioning, fast, and great with battery (YMMV)

Syndicate Frozen 1.2 is great! Great speed improvements and the battery life lasts me two days.
AA's i2 is sickly fast and battery seem to be great so far but for best battery life I'd good with Baked Snack v2.4 hands down! I flashed srf 1.2 a few days back. It was my first time rooting. Wanted a rom that would improve my phone without causing a bunch of hassle. I can say, so far that this is EXACTLY that rom. Flawless performance and amazing look and speed. Followed qbkings video to the T then flashed the emotionless beast resurrection theme. Its been running so damn good. Like Mystery said, try different ones out, mix em up. Updates regularly pop out for different roms, some roms only exist on different forums, etc. And now there's Gingerbread betas to choose from along with the fantastic Frozen Yogurt roms, so give them all a try! Mileage may vary per person... Only way to be sure!
The Bonsai Rom is the best.
Bonsai 5.0.0.b11.
It is the best because it is fast and stable and it is only in the Beta stages. Everything works plus it is an Ext-4 Gingerbread Rom. The developer is very nice and responsive too.

I'm running you alls SFR 1.2 and I'm on Genocide 1.1 Kernel. What's a link to the TwilightZone Kernel posting? By the way SFR 1.2 is a beast. Beast like a AK74U and G11 hybrid lol
The Epic 4G Noob <- Let's Play some COD tho
Any major benefits to it right now beside the major LoS issue. OC is not really a key factor in it for me with this phone since its fast anyway. I know custom roms usually always have a major benefit towards what they can do. but is it really worth it at this point. i have not once had any LoS issues, may just battery
PS. i just got my phone yesterday so i dont know much about samsung products. im use to rooting with HTC devices from the start of the hero, Evo, Evo Shift.
I waited a week to root and had no LOS. Then I flashed everything I could get my hands on and still haven't had LOS. The roms that are out all seem a little smoother and faster than stock. Just make sure you wipe data/cache/dalvik and format system before you flash a rom and you should never have any issues. Returning to stock is also so easy that there aren't any real drawbacks to rooting and flashing roms or kernels. If you're happy with the way it is now I'd just give it some time and read about the roms and kernels as everything progresses. I could live with my phone stock but I hate background processes and bloatware lol.

that's what im looking for, the better battery life, but stock is surprisingly good for me right now, except battery. Does either rom support signal feeds from other towers like CM did?? just curious, highly doubtful tho.

Do you mean forced roaming like on Verizon? If so then yes you can force a prl update to the phone that will let you control roaming. And as far as battery life I run the stock pulled kernel and have it set to 500Mhz Max when the screen is off and 1ghz when on and my battery life has been great (standby times are incredible).
