Deleting stock browser - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I wanted to delete my stock browser from my phone would I do this using root explorer?? And is there a way to access the apk through my computer and save the browser file there just in case later on I decide to put it back?

there's an app in the market called Uninstaller for Root...it allows you to backup the .apk and uninstall it. Awesome app and its free.

Ill try that out. Thanks.

I use root explorer, and COPY the browser file deep in the sdcard, then go back to original place where the browser apk is, then delete it. You have a copy if needed. You can also backup with titanuim as well, or just reflash your current rom again and it will reinstall. Many ways it can be done and you really really don't even need a backup of the browser apk to be honest its easily obtainable lol.
Nonsense!

Be careful doing that or do a bckup in titanium b4 you do I have found sometimes when I use other browsers downloads don't go through all the time.

When you open the app press Problems and download Busy box.

Can you tell me exactly what titanium do?
Sent From My HTC EVO
Whenever you flash a rom kernel etc. You download titanium and it will back up all of your apps that you have so when you flash a new Tom you download titanium and just restore your apps just like new
Sent from my PC36100
But do you actually have to back it up on the app it only let's meet back up one at a time. It's always telling me to quit something and to proceed

Did you go to Settings-Applications and check Unknown sources? Whenever I have that unchecked TB gives me a message.

Also, if you don't push allow on the superuser prompt quick enough, it defaults to deny su/root access to the app.

[Q] Install MMS.apk

All of a sudden I kept getting force closes when trying to open up MMS app. I uninstalled the app using Titanium Backup. I am now trying to install the app again using Astro File Manager and also tried using Appinstaller. I copied the MMS.apk from the original Bonsai 4.0 zip file on my computer to my SD card.
When trying to install .apk with Astro I keep getting application not installed error.
Can someone give me a good MMS.apk I can install and also let me know if I need to install the .apk a different way.
I am running Bonsai 4.0

Do I have to use "root explorer" I used astro explorer and placed the .apk into the system/app and nothing changed. I rebooted the phone and still nothing.
Any other suggestions would greatly help.. I need my text back.
Remember to use the original name of the app
For example if the name if the app is a.apk and you rename it to b.apk it won't work

I did the same thing. Try restoring a backup of only ur mms.apk from titanium. It worked form me to stop the fc's and get my stock mms back. But I still couldn't get a the modded mms to install :-\

Have you tried just flashing one of the mms apks from the transparent collection on this forum? Not sure if you WANT transparent, but I had a similar problem to yours, and I just went with the transparent ones and it worked for me. And I got some pretty colors to boot.

Anytime someone says to use root explorer, i use Super Manager. Its free, has root functions and can mount /system r/w.

System/app

So I am trying to copy past browser from frozen rom to urban metamorpisis how ever my computer won't let me does anone have any ideas on how to do this

If you have root you could copy it to your SD card with Root Explorer from the Market. Titanium Backup would let you back it up and restore the backup on another ROM.
Needs to be pushed to system\app with root explorer. Then reboot.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I tried that won't let me push it there for some odd reason
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Did you hit the mount r/w button in the upper left hand corner of root explorer?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Yes I did I get to the app folder in system/app and then I clicked paste then I look to the folder and it didn't get placed
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Try deleting or renaming the old file first then copy and paste the new one. Are you using Root Explorer?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Yes I am using root explorer I got it placed in current running rom in system/app and then re boot and look in app section and browser still not there try installing apk direct says app not installed
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
So you paste it,check it, its there, reboot and its gone?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
No I reboot check its there but the actually app is not there

flashing apps

When I put my backed up apps into a zip folder and try to flash it it says faild to flash and blah blah......and when i try to put it inside the rom like system-app it dosent flash my apps just the ones I didn't put in
Any advice

What did you use to back the apps up?
App backup & restore
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
You have to use the app to restore your backed up apps. Not flash them...
I used the app to backup my apps than I took those backed up apps and put them inside a. Zip folder or a rom like cyanogenmod inside the system-apps after that I put the zip file on my sdcard and rebbot to recovery when I try to flash it says error

Again, You have to use the app to restore your backed up apps. Not flash them...

Whatever app you used to back them up with is what you use to resore them. As far as installing things via recovery, you can't just throw a bunch of apps into a zip file, you need to script things accordingly as well. If you're wanting to go that route, for whatever reason, look into how to create an update.zip
