upgrading what? the ROM? in most scenarios no.. if its a custom ROM its probably already been rooted, but if you flash an original HTC ROM you will definitely loose root, hope i understood you correctly

Yes, loads.

OR
In short, download the RUU you require (if you had to downgrade to root then use the same RUU) then use HTC Sync to push it to your phone (again, HTC site has good instructions).
And ...

Means rooted phone cannot update Android 2.3 OTA.
OR may be is there any way to update manually Android 2.3 on rooted phone? hehe
To do manually follow any of the threads in development forum.

but remember, you wont be able to use any apps that require root access, as the latest GB rom from HTC hasn't been rooted, so BEWARE!!!!!!!
if you need, you can go for any GB ROM from here, which provide you full access to root & superuser, etc.
Try using visionary
I know there's a unroot function on it, but never used it. Probarly someone else did, maybe search the forum
Anyone is working on rooting 1.72 WITHOUT downgrade?
At least just clean root without s-off.
greets
Appearantly it is really wel secured since this ROM was released december and it is still not rooted. Best option so far is to downgrade and root. I haven't found any reference to a possible successful root of the 1.72 firmware. I am also unable to find any status/update on this subject...
If anyone knows more it would be appreciated!
u can do the g-free temp root/ s-off and fastboot load cwm and zing, no downgrade needed
how?
ps. obviously we are talkng about permament root

easy.
i do all this and the fastboot flash cwm, once u get S-off u can flash a recovery one, u just wont have root on stock rom. so u must flash a rom.

I recently received a replacement G2 with the 1.72 firmware(with wifi calling) so it had the Dec. update installed, and was able to root just as easily as I did back in Oct. Just follwed "blackprince310"'s method, and it worked like a charm.Again.

But did you make a downgrade?
wheeliest - you've flashed a new rom so it has the same disadvantages as downgrading.

I thought the only T-Mob G2 ROM versions were 1.19 and 1.21, both of which are rootable by the "usual" methods?

but i avoided the whole downgrading part by simply flashing a new rom....

perhaps the replacement one came pre-ota-ed?
It had WiFi calling so it was definitely post ota.

Loosing the original rom? Which is good enough and needs only a few hacks.
Loosing all the settings and apps? Reinstalling 300 apps and setting them is the pain in the %$%.
Potentially dangerous process with goldcard?
So what for downgrading if one needs only the access to the system files and run some apps like adfree or dsp manager.
have you used cm7? because stock rom is garbage compared to it..
What has it so much better? (apart from new layouts and bacgrounds?)

everything about it, way more control over the phone, better performance, unlimited possibilities..
Don't want to be mean but:
CM7 Bugs/Not working/TODO:
Camera
Missing FM
Screen calibration support
First setup wizard restarts
and more:
just cant stand the download failures and the market failures.

I don't believe your phone will see any more updates. It's well past the updating period, you're never going to get as good as you'd get rooting and a custom rom.

Just flash supersu through your custom recovery (which I'm assuming you have since you s-off'd. If you don't have one, let me know and I'll tell you how to get one.

Hello
I rooted my htc desire 816g with Vroot and it was working fine. But I updated my phone with System Update in settings , and after that superuser doesnt permit any apps , when I checked with root cheker it says Im not rooted.
I tried to reroot with Vroot and it fails .
How to fix this problem?
apologize for bad english.
Never take an OTA after rooting...
If you tried rooting again using the same method, that means the OTA you took broke that root method...possibly on purpose.
