I'm not sure on that. If it was possible, i would think it'd have to be done with QPST or CDMA workshop. I would research those two programs, and see if they're capable of that. (I'm really not sure, and don't have time to research it. But if its possible, I'd think one of those two programs would be needed)
On second thought, just root that thing with unrevoked, and flash away!

I thought the issue with 1.9 PRI causing bad battery life was that certain combinations of custom ROMs or Kernels didn't play well together. Out of the box, I think a 1.9 PRI should play well with everything else that came in the stock ROM.
Not saying you shouldn't consider rooting anyway, but if it's just to downgrade PRI, I wouldn't think you would need to do that.

Yes, you can downgrade, but you're going to have to root her phone first. If you root it, you can download PRI 1.77_003 from the link below. You will have to flash it from recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
Now, being that your mom "just got one", give her new phone time to settle. Don't rush off to downgrade her PRI. The EVO, when properly charged, can give a decent battery life depending on her usage. You may have to charge her phone until the LED turns green, wait 60 seconds, charge again until it's green and repeat the process until it stays green after 60 seconds of being unplugged. That is my routine for very good battery life. There are others. Give it a try.

I did the same thing. I went to the Sprint store and explained that Iwas downloading the OTA 2.2 update (just didn't say which one) when it bricked and they ordered a new Evo. Apparently the very LASTthing you should do is yank the battery during the process.
It was still under warranty.

If the phone wont boot and is bricked, then that's it, it's dead Jim.
They cannot exactly boot it up at the store and check on it now can they.
Sucks.
I agree with the others though. Might as well take advantage of the warranty while the OTA update is still in effect. Makes for a good story anyway...
Somehow I think someone will chime in and say that this is not right or something though.... just used to forums, lol.

You could always try the other released radios. The 11.xx has been scoring some pretty "oh my goodness, how fast can I uninstall this thing" ratings, but the 9.xx may do you some good. On all radios, YMMV; and be VERY VERY careful when flashing.
When it bricked it was stuck in an infinite boot loop, then after a few tries, wouldnt go further than hboot. I got lucky and found a way to restore an old rom I saved to my PC with the sdcard. I'm just glad I could still get it to run clockwork recovery.

Interestingly, the 11.x radio increased my battery life about 20% (no major impact on my reception, if anything it seemed to have cost me a dB or two) compared to the 7.x radio. Tried the 9.x for a few days; cost me nearly half my battery life and caused the phone to run above 100F just for surfing the web.
It's DEFINITELY a YMMV situation.

Your phone wasn't even remotely close to being bricked. That would be kind of like saying a dislocated shoulder is total paralysis.
A bricked phone is one that can't do anything at all and is completely unrecoverable. A basic rule of thumb is that if you can get to the bootloader, the phone is in no way bricked.

Hello guys. I was wondering if someone.could please help me with rooting my wife's evo. I'm not familiar with the evo. I've been researching it the.past couple days. My question is in the wiki I see the universal auto root but that uses unrevoked. I have just been reading that unrevoked causes problems so I was wondering if there.is a better way than using the unrevoked. My wife's evo is hardware 4 hboot 2.10 radio-2.15.00.11.19 and on software.version 3.70. So does using unrevoked cause.problems? Thanks for.all your help.
Nope unrevoked is the best way I love it, press a button boom follow simple instructions and your rooted!

Thank you guys alot. I haven't been keeping up on the evo like I wanted to with the.epic finally getting 2.2 about time. Damn you guys had it for a while and are getting honeycomb to boot up. Dkdude36 that rooting way.looks fun. Its alot.more involved.
haha ya that rooting method is 'fun' its not as hard as it seems though. to update, just flash a rom with the new software. if you dont know how to do this, then you probably should have used the manual root to learn, but i will tell you anyways.

Awesome. You guys have alot of options to choose from. I guess I'll look at what you showed me and show the wife and let her find one. Her problem is she loves htc sense. So I might be limited on what I can pick. I really just want to get that bloatware off and overclock it for her to speed it up. So if I use the universal script it flashes Amon ra recovery right? I've never used that before. I have always used clockwork Mod before.

I've always used unrevoked and then when its done I go into recovery and flash amon RA. Its worked multiple times for me. There are a bunch of different sense Roms out there. Warm and mikfroyo are most popular though. Plus a ton of themes and overclocked kernals to go with them. I myself use cm7 but its all personal choice.
If I use the universal root doesn't that flash amon ra recovery for me? Or do I have to do that after.I complete the root?

Try running the ruu for another phone and see if it still boots. Try the inspire 4G ruu, or grab the inspires radio and flash it. Maybe even the Motorola droids radio and a rom.

The catch with the radios is to update then interrupt the update process by pulling the battery. That should do the trick.

The problem is, when I flash a radio, it just says how it's flashing, then it says to reboot. Then it goes to the evo w/ refresh symbol, then boots back up. I have pulled at every step along the way, and I still boot. Can someone link me up to some radios or RUUs with some instructions as to what to do with whatever it is?
And I would appreciate it if people who don't have anything constructive to say would not say anything. I paid a lot of money for this device, and IT IS MINE TO DO WHATEVER I WANT WITH.

Is the update going to try and force itself or will it does it have to be a manual update?
Also, if you are running a custom rom will this still effect people, or just people running stock root?
Unless things are different from my Original Droid then custom roms don't need to worry about it since most of them have OTA updates turned off.

Just a thought - would users who have received the update against their will have the option of flashing the previously released gingerbread RUU? I am rooted (stock rom) and made the error of accepting. After the update my phone would not boot completely (erred with white triangle, yellow exclamation point, blue android). You can follow Conduitz's fix found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233267
NOOB Question
If I want the update and could wait for Root (have root now), how does one go about getting S-ON again? I used the alpharev method.
thanks in advance.
