At which step did your Evo fail? Evo crashed mid flash? Evo bricks during the first reboot after flash?

Did you have to buy a new one?
I did the same thing. I went to the Sprint store and explained that Iwas downloading the OTA 2.2 update (just didn't say which one) when it bricked and they ordered a new Evo. Apparently the very LASTthing you should do is yank the battery during the process.
It was still under warranty.

If the phone wont boot and is bricked, then that's it, it's dead Jim.
They cannot exactly boot it up at the store and check on it now can they.
Sucks.
I agree with the others though. Might as well take advantage of the warranty while the OTA update is still in effect. Makes for a good story anyway...
Somehow I think someone will chime in and say that this is not right or something though.... just used to forums, lol.
Luck!

Has anyone figured out how to juice up the radio? Much like overclocking the CPU, but with the radio to improve up and down signal.
Willing to run any experimental programming on my phone if anyone has something to try out.

You could always try the other released radios. The 11.xx has been scoring some pretty "oh my goodness, how fast can I uninstall this thing" ratings, but the 9.xx may do you some good. On all radios, YMMV; and be VERY VERY careful when flashing.
When it bricked it was stuck in an infinite boot loop, then after a few tries, wouldnt go further than hboot. I got lucky and found a way to restore an old rom I saved to my PC with the sdcard. I'm just glad I could still get it to run clockwork recovery.

Interestingly, the 11.x radio increased my battery life about 20% (no major impact on my reception, if anything it seemed to have cost me a dB or two) compared to the 7.x radio. Tried the 9.x for a few days; cost me nearly half my battery life and caused the phone to run above 100F just for surfing the web.
It's DEFINITELY a YMMV situation.

Your phone wasn't even remotely close to being bricked. That would be kind of like saying a dislocated shoulder is total paralysis.
A bricked phone is one that can't do anything at all and is completely unrecoverable. A basic rule of thumb is that if you can get to the bootloader, the phone is in no way bricked.

I'm not sure on that. If it was possible, i would think it'd have to be done with QPST or CDMA workshop. I would research those two programs, and see if they're capable of that. (I'm really not sure, and don't have time to research it. But if its possible, I'd think one of those two programs would be needed)
On second thought, just root that thing with unrevoked, and flash away!

I thought the issue with 1.9 PRI causing bad battery life was that certain combinations of custom ROMs or Kernels didn't play well together. Out of the box, I think a 1.9 PRI should play well with everything else that came in the stock ROM.
Not saying you shouldn't consider rooting anyway, but if it's just to downgrade PRI, I wouldn't think you would need to do that.

Yes, you can downgrade, but you're going to have to root her phone first. If you root it, you can download PRI 1.77_003 from the link below. You will have to flash it from recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
Now, being that your mom "just got one", give her new phone time to settle. Don't rush off to downgrade her PRI. The EVO, when properly charged, can give a decent battery life depending on her usage. You may have to charge her phone until the LED turns green, wait 60 seconds, charge again until it's green and repeat the process until it stays green after 60 seconds of being unplugged. That is my routine for very good battery life. There are others. Give it a try.

Yeah. I just got the phone today for my wife and it updated while it was charging before I could root it...which sucks since rooting it played a HUGE role in the decision to get this phone.
I'm guessing I could really break something if I just tried the unrevoked/alpharev/revolutionary approach regardless of the fact that I now have hboot 0.98 huh?

Is the update going to try and force itself or will it does it have to be a manual update?
Also, if you are running a custom rom will this still effect people, or just people running stock root?
Unless things are different from my Original Droid then custom roms don't need to worry about it since most of them have OTA updates turned off.

How long for the exploit on 2.3.4 since we already have 2.3.2 done.
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda premium
My crystal ball says it will take 3 months and 9 days to find the next exploit, and 4 months 15 days for the next patch that kills it.
It seems that one of the biggest benefits of custom roms are freedom of forced updates. I guess this is the answer to all the people concerned about getting s-on for the event of a return.

Wow, this thing pushes through without user consent? Holy crap am I glad I'm running CM7.
Just a thought - would users who have received the update against their will have the option of flashing the previously released gingerbread RUU? I'm guessing that even if they could, they'd still be stuck with the updated hboot and therefore unable to get s-off. I'm not really sure how all that works though. Anybody smarter than me have any thoughts?
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA App
The new OTA is pushed to your phone but it offers the option to accept, postpone or reject.
I am rooted (stock rom) and made the error of accepting. After the update my phone would not boot completely (erred with white triangle, yellow exclamation point, blue android). You can follow Conduitz's fix found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233267
NOOB Question
If I want the update and could wait for Root (have root now), how does one go about getting S-ON again? I used the alpharev method.
thanks in advance.
I recently rooted my incredible 2 successfully and got CM7 on with no problem. I was trying to install a new splash screen, but accidentally installed my existing radio (1.09.01.0722) instead. Now I can't get any wireless signal or dial *228. I've tried different radios, but none of them work now. Any ideas?
thanks

I always thought that the flashing your Radio twice thing was just a rumor cause I can never find any answer as to why this would brick your device.
guess it doesn't care it just does!
Hope you can get an insurance replacement being rooted. Verizon wouldn't even cover my week old battery that was bad from the factory and wouldnt take a complete charge because the VZW dip behind the counter noticed the custom boot screen and started asking questions. guess I should have hidden my mods!
I really wish you guys would look up the definition of "brick" if you don't understand what a BRICK is. please refer:
Bricked
Bricked refers to ANY hardware that is unable to start up due to bad software; Usually because of a bad software flash, a modification done improperly, loss of necessary files, being overheated from overclocking or overuse if the item is a lemon, a short-circuiting, or a Trojan that deletes necessary files for a few examples.
The noob bricked his PSP because he took out the battery while running a firmware update.
