[Q] Need some serious help - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright, here's the deal. I tried to root my Inc. and accidently did unrevoked Forever. Now it says I have s-off, but no root access. Super User app is there, but none of my root apps work. I tried re-rooting with unrevoked, and it says Error: is your firmware too new? I can't figure out how to get z4root on my phone to see if it would fix it.
I have no idea what to do. I really need to get root access, but I'm not sure where to go from here. Any help is appreciated.

Run the unrevoked forever son/soff tool again to get son. Go to dougpiston.com and get the latest PB31IMG.zip. Drop it on your sdcard. shut down. Boot while holding down on the volume rocker(V-) and power. Your phone will boot to hboot. Once there your phone will ask to update. Press up on the volume rocker(V+) to update. Once it updates it will ask to reboot. Press up on the volume rocker(V+)to reboot. Done.
Now reroot again if you choose this time paying attention to what your doing.

Wow, you need to do some more reading lol. That is normal, what you need to do now is flash the ENG rom in order to get into clockwork much easier and flash things without the need for signing.
If you are trying to get into recovery to finish rooting though, after the '.img' stuff finishes, use the volume to highlight recovery then press power. Once it reboots press 'vol up+power' now you're in recovery.

[Q] desperate plea, easy queustion but please help!

i tried to backup my current rom with from manager free version, as i thought it would be simple. my phone is rooted and i clicked the flash clockworkmod and that went well. my phone rebooted and all i have now is a picture of the phone with a red warning symble. it is probably just a button combination but please help asap thanks.
and also how do i un-root and undo clockworkmod as i have gone thurther than i understand much apreciated.
please try to explain as simply as possible.
edit- rebooted by holding power and volume i would still appreciate advice on un-rooting, if its necesery?

The Red warning symbol, is the original recovery , so clockwork recovery is not installed, I tend to agree with leppie that you probably are not S-OFF and thus cannot flash clockwork recovery, unroot is as simple as running visionary and ticking unroot (this assumes you used visionary to root) or flashing the appropriate RUU for your phone

[Q] OMG - can't open recovery cache on evo

HI - I pray that some can help me resolve my issues. I had to return my phone to sprint for another, this morning I received my new phone and started the recovery process unfortuanely in the middle of it i remember that did not back up my orginal system. Now I have this error "can't open recovery cache" when I attemt to enter in to rooting steps. it aborts on each try. Can some pleaseover me some advise on how I can gain access to my recovery rom so I can complete my rooting process?
If you're trying to restore the backup of your old phone, I HIGHLY don't recommend it.
Can you just not get into recovery?
No Sir I am not, I have no way of gaining access to the recovery system, my phone is functional but I have no way to go into recovery program. I have made a terrible mistake, once I hold the volume button down and attempt to enter hboot it simple locks with the 2-phased dark battery with the big red triangle.
this is the message i get
E:CAN't open /cahe/revoery/comand

Verying update package.
E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory)

That's the entire message
Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated
Lawlz, no need for sir.
I don't feel like re-uploading the file, but second the second post here > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1062442
Place the file on your sdcard, as it is, not renamed, not extracted, ect. Boot into the bootloader, it'll scan, apply update, reboot, reboot into recovery, and you'll be on amon_ra 2.3.
The ! is you trying to get into recovery, but you're on stock recovery, which is no recovery. And you are rooted, s-off?
Do you have root access in your rom? You can try installing a recovery image from ROM manager or find the AmonRa thread on here and flashing the PC36IMG.zip from that thread from within hboot.
teh roxxorz beat me to it...
I have attempt to use the recovery manager - it force closes
I have attempt to use the terminal manager - commands not recongized
I will attempt to upload the link provided and let you know
Aye aye cappy, we'll be lurking.
Sniff, sniff nothing still the same errors
Well no luck, I have purchased the rom manager- it forecloses, I have downloaded, installed and rebooted to bootloader no luck, I have tryed everything i know which is very little. I guess I should consider my lucky that I have a funtional phone, but I will have no access to the recovery mode so i can root it. sigh....
To answer your previous questions
The ! is you trying to get into recovery - Yes that is when i get the error
, but you're on stock recovery, which is no recovery.
And you are rooted, s-off? - No I not rooted yet
I was trying root my new phone when i got myself into this mess,

What method of rooting were you using, and which recovery did you try flashing? As teh roxxorz asked, your hboot is s off right? It sounds like your best bet will be to run an RUU and start over again.

That's why its not working, you're not rooted.
http://unrevoked.com/recovery/ < use unrevoked
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install < install these hboot drivers first
Make sure usb debugging is enabled on your phone, settings > applications > development
Then connect the phone to the pc in charge on, run unrevoked, and you'll be good to go.
This is what I am seeing when I attempt to enter recovery on my phone

That means you have no recovery, and you have no recovery because you aren't rooted. if you follow the instructions I posted above, you'll be good.
Sigh... I was in the process of performing this when I got into trouble, I have the andriod bootloader install, I power down and reboot using volume down key and power, once there I allow the system to perform system check then I select hboot, I have inserted usb cord once this process start and directily run unvoked3. What occurs then is it is not recongizing my phone for some reason and just sits there in limbo for 15 to 20 minutes. I have also unistalled htc sync, cleanded files, and reboot 3 times. I will continue and maybe i will get lucky

You need to turn the phone on, normally, boot into the phone, then connect the phone in charge only, do that, and run it again.

[Q] Evo Rooting failed? Please help now on restarting loop

Hey guys,
I tried to root my my evo 4g with the instructions from the sticky and when I started the autoroot file as it said, it would get to found root then establishing something and the cmd would close out and my phone would stay in the bootloader mode. Instructions said to go to recovery if it didn't continue and I did go into recovery and all it gave me was a black screen with the red triangle and nothing was happening so I pulled out the battery to restart the phone. Now my phone boots up normally and it just freezes up after maybe 30 seconds of use everytime and just reboots and it repeats over and over again nonstop. It won't be recognized by my computers and it just says unidentified with the CDMA drivers not working and the phone does not recognize the SD card when its running and booted up. Please help if you guys know what I could do to make it stop restarting. Thanks in advance!
Try re-rooting via unrevoked. Click on unrevoked in my signature and follow the directions, but first, boot into the bootloader screen (after shutting off the device, simultaneously press the DOWN volume button and the power button until the device starts). Look at the top of the screen and see if it displays "S-OFF". If it does, great, you're rooted, bit if it displays "S-ON" then follow the rooting method of unrevoked or retry the method you used. If it does indeed display "S-OFF", I suggest you flash a custom recovery like amon_RA.
posting & replying via the XDA Premium app.
Well I can't do that since it won't recognize the phone through USB or recognize the SD card
Update: I just flashed my evo with the stock 3.70.651.1 rom using a card reader putting the PC36IM something file on the SD card and used bootloader to flash and It's still not recognizing the SD card and it's still freezing up 1 minute after it has booted up and restarts and repeats the loop.
I sorta have a similar problem. I have a rooted evo running CM7 .
trying to use HDMI cable with a 1080p vizio LCD TV. Nothing happens. Does CM7 support the HDMI video out.

can you send me the autorootlog.txt file? that should show what happened to it. And def don't try rooting it with anything else while the phone is in an inconsistent state, that is just asking to corrupt it.
Use unrevoked 3 my guide has all you need links and so on
I like unrevoked 3 easy to root and unroot . All the other programs that work for rooting can make unrooting a pain in the butt. Do what you want you want .
You don't have a recovery installed that's why you get black screen and triangles . Use amon 2.3

I'm not going to war with you on that man just saying turn s off flash a stock Ruu the latest and your good to go. Trying to find a auto or one click unrooting program to unroot can be a pain to do if your h boot is to new or old .
I'm sure your way is good I just prefer unrevoked 3 is all. Not dogging your root way. Just familiar with unrevoked 3 use it to root everyone's phone I know.

Well you're saying there's a difference in how you have to unroot when it's not true. Or at least that I know of, if there is I'm curious as to how.
Autoroot will try to downgrade the hboot to the unlocked engineering leak, if successful it's finished and all you have to do to unroot is run the RUU. If it's unable to downgrade the hboot it will bring up the stock recovery and use unrevoked forever to unlock the nand; when this is used you have to flash the s-on tool (that is left on the sdcard as URFSOn.zip) and then flash the RUU to unroot.
Unrevoked 3 breaks in through the hboot and unlocks the nand through the radio, so you will also have to use the s-on tool and flash the RUU.
You're also telling him to keep trying to root when his phone is obviously in a weird state, that's bad advice unless you want him to end up bricked like a ton of people did when the latest firmware came out.

no I'm not telling him to brick his phone. He doesn't have a recovery on his phone that is what he needs . Just saying if he does end up rerooting at some point he can try unrevoked 3 just a suggestion. My advice isn't bad not new to rooting or flashing. Pretty good at trouble shooting .
Well how do I get a recovery? I thought I have one since I have the option to go there? Gives me a red triangle with a phone under it. Once i mash the volume up and down and power button at the same time and hold it in for a bit a menu pops up to update from SD card or to clear storage and some other options. But anyway I reflashed the stock rom from bootloader and it's still doing the freeze after 30 seconds of use and restarts over and over again. So how do I actually get recovery and what do I do after that to make this stupid restarting of my phone to stop.

I'll need to take a look at your autorootlog.txt file in order to find out what's up with your phone. It should be in the autoroot folder and you can post it by using the 'manage attachments' button, if it doesn't want to let you for some reason you can also email it to me.
edit: odds are you're phone is still locked but it won't hurt to try flashing the recovery, all you have to do to flash it is run the FlashZip script that came with AutoRoot and select the one that says Amon RA - hausmod. That's if it's unlocked of course, if it says s-on or that the security is still on then your phone will reject it.
There you go, there is my autorootlog
I'm not too worried about this as I took the phone to sprint and they ordered me a new phone since they didn't know what was wrong with it and I'll get it today or tomorrow but I just want to figure out what went wrong so that I know what to do if I am to root my new phone..cause this autoroot I used on this website messed up and I followed every step perfectly.

[Q] Phone won't update

I've been wanting to root my phone but I'm having some problems. I tried following the guide here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1219246
But it didn't work seeing as how my DInc2 is still in froyo 2.2.1, and revolutionary only works now with 2.3.3.
So now the problem is updating. Apparently Verizon thinks I have a defective unit, because when I got to the software update in the settings and hit check new, it says service unavailable (my service is just fine). It's been doing this since I got the phone, and I got it about right after it was released. Verizon tech support had no solution to this problem at all.
I've researched online and can't find any solution, and tried resetting my phone and that didn't help either. Anyone have any ideas or a link to a thread I didn't see? I just want to root my phone, whether I install gingerbread first or find a way to root it in 2.2.1 I don't really care. I found a link to revolutionary that worked on froyo but that was on megaupload so that's gone now. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
You should be able to download a stock 2.3.3 ROM and flash it.
This has directions and a link for 2.3.4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599767
The important thing is the rom file must be named PG32IMG.zip and on the root of your sd card. To boot into the boot loader, turn the phone off, turn it on holding the volume down and power buttons down until the bootloader menu comes up. You may need to pull the battery out when the phone is off to get it to boot to the boot loader. I've had to on my phone.
You shold be able to find a 2.3.3 rom on your own.
You could put this file on your sdcard (not in a folder)
Then boot to bootloader by powering off, then hold volume down+power
Once it asks if you want to do then update select yes and dont interupt it.
MAKE SURE ITS NAMED: PG32IMG.zip
Heres the link below.

I could be wrong, but I believe that is the 2.3.4 rom.
