Help.. Desperate Times - Defy General

My regards to all the developers,
My problem is that I have unknowingly flashed 3.4.3-11 Motorola SBF TMobile Great Britain SBF thinking that it has code groups removed and downgradable. I turned out that the file was some 369 mb and was a full sbf.
Now though I have a nandroid backup of my previous Eclair 2.5.1, I cant downgrade.
Can somebody have mercy on me and try to help
Thanks a million tonnes in advance.

Why desperate? Just wait for a new oficial release for your country.

once you have flashed a full froyo sbf, you can not downgrade back to 2.51.
To maintain down-grade, you should have FIRST restored a froyo nandroid in custom recovery, boot into bootloader and flash a FIXED sbf of. I think your out of luck, atleast in terms of going back to 2.51. If you just like eclair better and want eclair you could flash US 3.6.360 sbf

Thanks zyxwvut, its not that i like Eclair, but the biggest issue that I am facing with this SBF is now my defy has become a battery hungry monster, on eclair, after a fair day's usage, my battery would still remain at 50%. But now, man it vanishes in a span of 4 hours or even less.
Any suggestions.

You can always try another rom like the official french rom 3.4.2-164.

@Kalijam : is the French Rom stable and has a decent battery life. Im in UK so would it work for me. I need more juice out of my battery.

French rom has English language. Try it.
Sent from my Defy on EphuNord rom.

I'm also from the UK and had the UK sbf 3.4.3-11 but found the battery life ok.
There must be something wrong if you are only getting 4 hours out of it.
I've since flashed the Nordic sbf 3.4.2-177 (no blur on this) and i find it smoother than the other one and battery life is still good for me.
Sent from my MotoDefy.

@sp8y - Very Very strange, I think ur right, could it be the always on 3g internet?
This thing is driving me nuts!!
HELP.

Have a look in the "hidden menu" - go into the dialler & type *#*#4636#*#* & see if anything abnormal shows in the battery usage.
It may be like you say the data usage - I'm not sure as rarely use the 3G - but try disabling the data in the settings menu & see if it improves.
It may also need a battery calibration - there's a few threads on here about having to recalibrate after flashing a different ROM. I've done mine a couple of times now after flashing & seems fine.
You can either follow this thread which I did by using ClockworkMod Recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913190&highlight=battery+calibration
OR there's an app in the market which does it for you http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1024867
Hope you get sorted

the french rom seems to have better battery time. A friend runs it now. 30+ hours and still 50% left. He claims its faster too.
Kaljam

@sp8y: Thanks for the concern and quick reply dude, will try what u'd recommended and will get back after calibration.
@Kaljam: Thanks buddy, i've just flashed the nordic 3.4.2.177 and would test it out, if that dose'nt work I would try the French one later.

Ok now, Nordic 3.4.2.177 squeezes a better battery time, but not to my liking yet. Now will be trying out the French ROM, see how it works out. Will report back 2moro.

1-2-3 Simplest way to upgrade Hermes to WM6

Dear Friends,Its been a while that I asked amost everyone, on all forums, all moderators, senior members about the simple stepwise method to upgrade Hermes to Wm6 but unfortunately the forums talk of hifi things and all the information is very disorganised. Mostly the new people are getting confused like I was. Anyways, I hope the community will realize it.
SIMPLE STEPS TO UPGRADE (forget everything)
* Install hard SPL V7
* Get the official ROM from HTC or DOPOD (avaialble on XDA-DEVELOPERS also) and just run it.
You don't need to EXTRACT the NBK or use the CUSTOM ROM or Flash OS only. In contradicition to what is said on the forums, the official very nicely upgrades radio etc...everything including EXTrom.
Any problems ... please write back.
I have tried all HTC and DOPOD ROMS and they works fine.
Dont use custom roms they all are leaky. When installed they have around 30 MB free program memory but leave it for some time and then it is only 2-3 MB without any new activity. So, you will be resetting every 8-9 hours.
Regards,
Alber
OEM roms are nice - if you like a canned setup loaded with bloat from the manufacturers that may or may not perform any better - usually worse - than a cooked rom.
If you're uncomfortable with shifting into high gear or moving into the fast lane to pass someone - then an OEM rom is perfect.
I hardly leave the fast lane personally

Just for my understanding:
If you do the steps above and simply run the shipped .exe file from the official release after flashing to Hard SPL V7 the HardSPL will be overridden with the one from the official release, right?
So i have to flash HardSPL again if i want to flash an other (may be cooked) rom.
Can you clarify this for me?
Thanks in advance,
Hype

If you see even at the standby and no applications launched you will find the available memory dips. try to keep it alive and see what is the maximum uptime.
The Black X RC is VERY stable for me, I now go several days without a reset. On the official AT&T rom, I'd be lucky to go a day without a reset.

I780 rom version

Im currently running rom version i780DXHA1
With this rom though it seems to randonly go into flight mode .
Is the rom on here a newer rom to the one i have installed?
Is there a newer/more stable rom available?
Thanks
No, I have the same version, but I don't have that problem.Maybe a program you installed that is conflicting?!
I have the same issue and there are severel people reporting the same problem over at ppcsg. I am on the same ROM as you, and i cant find any others.
In addition it looks like the guy who was posting the roms is now not able too, so it may be a while before we get anywhere with this.
Out of interest when you try to download the xtra info, does that also turn that phone off?
I was waiting for someone to post this problem. Glad that I am not the only one. The most annoying is, you cannot reset the PDA with the stylus.
So far, I cannot identify what causes the problem yet. It seems that whenever the signal is weak or the battery is below 50%, then it starts to auto shutdown more often.
I am planning to hard reset it over the weekend and identify if it is cause by programs.
Hi
I have the i780XBHA3, came preinstalled.
BR
Ahhh glad im not the only one then.....I have nothing installed and it still does the same.
The most annoying thing for me is i use my phone with tomtom.....And when it goes into flight mode it disconnects the Gps as it needs the network for the GPS to work.
Hopefully soon there will be a new rom updateto fix this problem.
Ive had to stop using mine as it just happens too often.
I think it is because of the data connection. I switched it off (by setting the connections to a empty network configuration) and the PDA has been working well. The minute I turned it on again, the PDA hung.
I remember I had the same problem with my 838pro. I have to wait for a radio rom upgrade.
Anyone of you who are not using data but pda still hangs?
Yeah that would make sense, because whenever i initiate a XTRA down it turns the phone off.
Lets hope a ROM comes out, rather than us having to send the phones in for an update.
Does anyone not have this problem at all?
If so what Rom version are you using?
Thanks
i have the same problem.
i love these forums becuase then I know its not me...
it only happens to me when i am in a place with low or no signal. it seems to shut off the radio as if to preserve battery, but i cant switch it on without a soft reset.
never had this issue.
im running i780XIHA7 which came preinstalled
Just thought i would update to say that i updated my complete ROM to the italian rom and then redid the PDA part with the english rom, and all problems have now gone, no more flight mode.
J273,
Same ROM as yours I780DXHA1. Freakin same problem!!! But it appears it only happens when I use the wifi on low battery or something.... i really dunno... but damn frustrating...
So what is the latest rom ?
Mine is i780HHA2
No problem here, using i780XKHA3, WM 5.2.1944 build 18547.0.7.3
I have a feeling that not all ROMs are affected. As for what is the latest ROM, I am not sure. It looks like the ROM versions go by regions or something as well.
I am from Malaysia and I bought my phone in Malaysia as well. I think my ROM version (i780DXHA1) is the same for the Singapore region as well.

Help A lazy Noob?

Hi there ,
Well I just purchased a Diamond from a little shop down here in New Zealand . The problems started when I tried to register it on the HTC web site and found I had to go to the hong kong site to get my SN working .. I think that means I got a Parell imported version? Which is mostly cool since this phone hasnt offically been released in NZ .. BUT
I find the interface very laggy, which led me to here . Now I have tried all the tweaks in the tweak section and that has helped a tiny bit , but I think the real answer is going to involve me diving into ROM land . Now here is where I ask for forgiveness in advance, as possibly this info exists elswhere, but I just need a few questions answered before I risk hosing my new toy .
1. what sort of info do I need to know before applying a new ROM? i.e current ROM revision in my phone ,radio ect .. and more importantly how do I determine the ROM or ROMS that are currently in my phone , can i get an exact copy from somewhere
I am not too sure if Changing the rom would do anything to the radio , in fact I dont really 100% get the concept about rom updates vs Radio Rom updadtes .. does the diamond have separate roms for radio ?
So do I need a specfic rom for my region ?
Basicly I want to see if a new rom would help me in terms of the performance of the phone , but dont want to risk loosing anything in terms of radio or telephone calls .
its a good idea to backup your current ROM.. you can search the forums for how to do a ROM dump or look in the wiki.. or you may find that the current ROM on your device is already posted by someone here in the forums.
Flashing the current ROMs released here doesn't update your radio (unless its some official ROM containing a radio in the package). ROM is the operating system, etc.. Radio is the thing controlling radio functions (gsm, wifi, gps, etc). New radio ROM can possibly give better connectivity, battery life, etc.
follow the guide at www.modmydiamond.info for step by step flashing instructions.
hey there and thanks for being kind ,
I guess my worry is that somehow flashing it will prevent things like the FM RADIO program from working , or maybee make it impossible to connect to my phone company or something like that .. Sorry I am really new to this and dont mean to be a pain ..
at this point, i highly doubt that as the ROMs are still quite heavily based on the official ROMs that have come out.. anyway, you could always flash it back but if you're really scared about the consequences, then ROM flashing might not be for you..
nah, I am not THAT worried ha ha , i used to be really scared of the boogieman tho , in the end i looked under my bed at midnight and never worried after that. Going to follow this rteally awesome guide and let you know how I get on
yep all flashed and happy .. next question . is there a way to add all my apps tomtom ect and then somehow dump a ROM including all twaeaks I have made ?
i think you could dump it, but when you flash a different ROM, you can't restore just the tweaks and stuff that way.
do a search in this site for "SASHIMI" it will auto load cabs, and reg files and stuff.. it'll take you a little while to get all your reg files together (i'm doing it now.. zzz.. long overdue) but after that it'll be a snap to flash ROMs and get back up and running.

Defy Froyo ROM overweight

Hellow guys, I know I'm a damn new in this forum and this is my first post.
I have been following many threads for a couple of weeks and couldn't find any topics with my question.
I have a defy and flashed the brazilian Froyo sbf (for TIM carrier).
Everything is perfect, the only question is: When opening TitaniumBackup I realise that the system ROM is about 86% (only 47.1mb free) and I remember when using Eclair that this value was something like 35%. Is that normal? My CPU usage reaches 90% very easily.
Do I have to cleanup something after flashing a new sbf?
cheers,
igor.

[Q] Am I asking for too much?

Hi guys,
I love my Desire HD, I really do. Great phone. I get asked all the time what make it is... very nice owning it... BUT I hate Orange UK and their pesky interfering with the ROM. Some things just plain don't work.
So (and I have looked) there are lots of ROMs out there that I can Flash, but it's all very confusing to me.
What I need clear guidance on is:
1. Can I get a nice clean Genuine HTC Rom on it (with Sense)?
2. Will that give me OTA updates to Gingerbread or any future upgrades?
Sorry, but I seem to only find Mod guidance on here, but Im one of those people who like to put things back the way they were designed to be... (Im that sad...)
Ta for any help you can offer

1. Yes, if you just want stock rom you can root your UK branded Rom (if its base 1.72 you have to downgrade first check this guide, thats what i used and there's also a link to a downgrade guide in it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964996) get S-OFF and install the official RUU (R om U pdate U tility) from 2.3.3. Or when you have root and S-OFF you can flash Clockworkmod recovery (the thing you need to flash any custom made stuff) and from there any custom rom you like. This is recommended because with it you can backup your current branded Rom in case you need to have it repaired and still want to be under warranty.
2. With official RUU you will get future OTA updates directly from HTC, but when you install 2.3.3 RUU you're already up do date. When you have a Custom Rom you will get updates from your rom Chef that you download over wifi/3g directly to your phone and flash it through Clockworkmod recovery
-> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040
This is stock rom with improvements. Look at the features list, it will convince you I'd say its the most popular custom rom and a good point to start.
btw Orange is the best provider in terms of Data plans in my country. You get most out of your money. But the branding and support is horrible They have absolutely no clue what their talking about. When i asked them if my DHD was branded when i bought it the sales assistant didnt even know what that is... She had to ask someone else first. If thats the same in UK you're on a good way with installing the Rom YOU want. You'll get support here from guys that do even better than the guys from HTC. Believe me.
I've only ever met one sales assistant who knew what I was talking about, I felt strangely attracted to her...
I've tried a few roms and settled on cm7 for now, best thing to do is junk the stock rom and get flashing, the improvements in battery life should be enough to convince you lol
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Thanks guys, this is really helpful....
The thing that tipped me over the edge was a trip to my local Orange Shop, where I went to get some answers as to why the Hot Spot feature wasn't working on the phone. I then had to spend 10 minutes explaining to the girl what the hotspot feature was, then DEMONSTRATE it to HER!
Orange guys must have been tinkering with the rom. Tethering and hotspot options worked out of the box for me but you better switch to a custom rom to get those features back and other goodies. Besides, it's funny .
Yep, like all the others recommended custom rom is the way forward. I was in your position before I started the flashing madness, I can promise you, you wouldn't regret it.. And we are so lucky to have such an active development section...
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Yep if you follow all the instructions it is nigh on impossible for anything to go wrong. Even if it does however, due to the active forums, you will get an answer in no time!
Don't do it, once you start you can't stop flashing save yourself and run away while you can
On a serious note, the battery life improvement and virtual 24hr help with this forum are good enough reasons on there own to do it, you won't regret it...
Ok Guys.... I'm gonna give you a laugh.
I've had my DHD since March (from Orange) and like all of you I am now not happy with (what you state is Stock ROM)
At the very tender age of 53yrs and now burnt our with computing and the like I rarely understand all the lingo/terms used Etc ;((
After calling on a phone 'expert' shop yesterday and was willing to shed cash if they could root & flash (presumably after de-branding) I saw the blank expression on their face.... "Nope... we don't know what your talking about"
Hmmm (I thought) So now I am determined to scare myself to death and ATTEMPT to get my phone to where it should be! But I am SOOoo lost on all the termanology used.
I am on 2.2.1
Kernal 2.6.32.21-g46445e7
Build 1.84.61.2
At the present time I am running on SPB 3D and have Laucher Pro installed as I was exerimenting with home page mods.
Still awaiting Ginger and can't see me getting it from Orange (UK) for any time yet. Phone does som curios things at times and seems to be getting buggy.
Phone calls drop, incomming second caller now boots me from my original call, icons vannish Etc.
Oh... Not keen on all this Facebook lark which the stock Orange thing has installed.
So.. ok, Not now happy with my DHD, but don't know where to start in geriatric terms.
Love this forum tho'
