Im using an EVO4G. The evo is rooted and there was a rom on the evo as well as Amon Ra's Recovery. Here's my problem. I don't know what happened but I can't boot past the HTC EVO 4g screen, I constantly restarts when I try to start up recovery, and when I try to send another recovery image to the phone via command prompt it just hangs. What do I do. ANY help would be appreciated. Also, I can get into fastboot however, when it does its checks it says the the PC36 image is wrong or missing.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Did you make sure it was all caps PC36IMG.ZIP I would try that. Is S off? Let me know Ill try to help.
What happens you try to get into recovery and it hangs? Did you try to flash a RUU to it?
If you already have the PC36IMG of Amon Ra on your phone, make sure it's named right. In Windows you should only see PC36IMG, not the zip extension... unless you have specifically set the computer to show file extensions. Also make sure it's on the root of the SD card.
Are you showing s-off in the bootloader? What rom were you running when this happened and had you flashed anything or made any system changes?

I have the PC36IMG on the root of my phone and have flashed the image however I'm still getting the same problem. When flashing, everything says ok except [2] bootloader [8] tp and [9] tp 2 and 9 says bypassed and 8 doesn't say anything on it. I still cannot get into recovery and the phone still wont boot.

No Image or wrong image!
Loading PC36IMG.zip
Are you able to actually get into recovery and flash a rom?
No. It will go to the EVO 4G screen and hang up in a neverending reboot cycle.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19699565/PC36IMG.zip Place that on your sdcard, and flash it in the bootloader, apply update, reboot. it's amon_ra 2.3 recovery, see if that works.
Thats the same one I tried but maybe it was a bad download, I will try it again. Thanks.
***update*** still wont go past the black and white evo 4g screen
I've tried flashing the recovery image and the complete image. No luck. Is there a way to flash a rom to the phone without recovery and without being able to boot the phone (ie from fastboot)?
Can I run a RUU from fastboot?

Yeah, you should be able to. If you used unrevoked to root, or ever flashed unrevoked forever, you'll still be s-off. But if it works, hopefully you'll have a bootable phone. You can then reroot, and if you need to unroot then flash the s-on zip and run the RUU again.

What was the PC36IMG & why did you need it? You need to download a PC36IMG.zip of Amon Ra or CWM. Don't rename, update in the bootloader.

This confuses me a bit. You somehow ended up with a PC36IMG on your sd card that you had no idea what it was, then it asked you to update, and you said yes, not even knowing what it was? Is that accurate? Does your bootloader still show S off? If you flashed a PC36IMG of a factory ROM you may be S on and unrooted, so check that first. If you're still s off, and you can boot into the OS, then the easiest way for you to get Clockwork back would be to download ROM manager, and use that to flash clockwork. Just select 'flash clockwork mod recovery'. If you did in fact run a PC36IMG of the factory rom, you'll most likely need to install the Super User app again in order for ROM manager to work.
I'm very curious of what the heck you flashed, and how you didn't know what it was, lol. A little more info would be great. Are you still on the same ROM you were before you flashed it? What were the results of flashing the PC36IMG? Can you boot up?
Same thing happened to me a few days ago. Nothing is briked. Some how. After a few reeboots all came back to normal.
I fixed it, but now I am trying to get back my original backup and everythime I try it says:
Checking MD5 sums…
Erasing boot before restore…
Restoring boot image…
Error while flashing boot image!
I think my HBOOT isnt the write version but im not sure.
i have a big issue, i wanted to update my radio, wimax, ect on my rooted evo.. so i downgraded clockword mod back to v2.5.0.7 because of the scripts and binary issues so i could zip the files then i flashed HBOOT-0.76.2000 now my phone stays on the bootloader screen and when i go to recovery to flash and restore a backup it keeps telling me checking MD5 sums.... erasing boot before restore...... restoring boot image.. Erroe while flashing boot image, what is wrong with my boot image why cant it find it and can anyone help sorry im still kinda a noob
Did you properly sign the zip you made? Did you know that Calkulin has already created a zip containing the radio updates and it is available to download from http://www.mediafire.com/file/9a1ju....00.11.19_WiMAX_27167_R01_PRI_NV_1.90_003.zip
All you have to do is go into recovery and flash it. As for the HBOOT you flashed, what version did you have prior to flashing HBOOT v0.76.2000? I hope it wasn't v2.10.0001 or 2.02.0000 because they allegedly cannot be downgraded. Finally, are you able to boot into your homescreen or are you stuck looping into the bootloader or recovery screen?
If you have the eng bootloader you can pull the boot.img and use 'fastboot flash boot boot.img'.
Of course you'll need to have the phone in fastboot mode and the boot.img in the same folder as fastboot.

it says my ENG S-OFF what does that mean again

So I figured something that I didn't think of before I put a pc36img on the root of my sd and it updated everything so I'm up and running again guys thanx for your support
I am new to all of this technical stuff, so please, please, please help! -_-
Ok, so apparently I'm a big, fat idiot. I wanted 3.0 Sense so bad, I think I flashed a rom not for the Evo (someone pls tell me I'm not the only one!).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106799
So now I cannot boot up my phone past the white htc evo 4g screen, and I cannot boot in recovery. When I choose that option in the hboot screen, it only gives me a fastboot option and that brings me right back to the white screen. I have read so many threads on how to boot it differently, but I dont understand. If I am plugged into my USB, is there a way to flash something else? I backed my phone up before I stupidly flashed without reading all the way.. I assume because I am able to get into hboot that I may be able to recover from this??

You place the PC36IMG on the root of your sdcard and when you boot into the bootloader it automatically searches for the file and then asks if youbeant to flash the update.
This is why I dislike root methods like unrevoked. Had you used an adb root method you would know how to do all this.

Make sure it is on the root of the sd card and not in a folder. And be sure it is named exactly PC36IMG.zip
All caps and not PC36IMG.zip.zip
To be sure you have the right file. Download this (Amon RA) and put it on the root. Do not rename or anything.
Yes, that is exactly how it is. It says, No image or wrong image! Trying again..

Lol. I was hoping I would come back to see that. the reason your restore didn't work is because you were using ClockworkMod before. You can either do the same thing you just did with clockworkmod, or just start over with Amon RA. Personally, I would go with Amon RA. Seems to wipe, clear, and backup better IMO. Take care!!
So I believe the HBOOT is corrupted, but I'm not 100%. When I boot, I can get into HBOOT, when I try to boot to recovery, factory reset, or anything but fastboot and reboot, I get the white HTC Incredible screen, then a black screen with two white stripes down either side. Anybody seen this before? Rooted with ClockworkMod Recovery. Can't get to CM Recovery. Is there a way to flash HBOOT?

Yes you can flash hboots thru your current hboot as a PB31IMG.zip. You can get the hboots here http://dinc.does-it.net/Hboots/. However i dont think thats going to fix your problem, it sounds like you may have the wrong version of cwm installed. What version are you currently on and is your screen amoled or slcd?
Not sure if this matters but they have an unlocked hboot as per their other thread.

Oh, if your on the new hboot there is no way to downgrade it. So you would have to try to reflash the new hboot again.
Understood. How will that affect S-ON vs off and the unlocked bootloader?
Also, how can I re-flash to the newest HBOOT as you suggest?

If you are s-off you will stay s-off. If your s-on you will stay s-on and can root with my tutorial. Even with an unlocked bootloader it will still say s-on or off. I do not have an hboot only image in hand, when i get to my pc i will make one. Or you could just do the ruu from the htvdev unlock site. That will reflash the hboot and the entire system.
EDIT: Here is a PB31IMG.zip of hboot 1.02, http://dinc.does-it.net/Hboots/Hboot_1.02/PB31IMG.zip. Place the file on your sdcard in no folders, boot into hboot and it should automaticly find the file and prompt you to press vol up to update.

Correct you are already on 1.02 right.
I am. About to flash it.
Edit to the edit. Somehow didn't process what you were saying. Put the .zip on the root of the SD, popped it in, booted to HBOOT, it grabbed it immediately. Tested Recovery and Clear Storage, same story. Take that back. Clear storage seems to be working, Recovery is not. Recovery hangs on the black screen with white stripes on either side. CWM corrupt?
Can't get to RECOVERY. I can get it to boot into HBOOT, as soon as I select anything else it goes to the black screen. First shows the white HTC Incredible screen, then it goes black. Seems like it errors out because the white stripes look like the edges of the prior white screen. Can I use adb to push recovery straight to the first HBOOT screen?
Edit: force HBOOT into FASTBOOT from adb I mean, and then kick of the recovery from there?

I was actually wondering about this. Sorry to sidetrack but know if it can do fastboot erase or fastboot flash? If so I want to get it setup on my Dinc to simplify kernel testing. I assume eng or unlocked bootloader are needed so I'd have to update to 1.02, still have s-off and then use the website to unlock.

So you cant select fastboot from the hboit menu either? The only other way i know but not sure if it would work for you is to try to boot normaly and when it gets to the white screen where it gets stuck keep trying to enter adb reboot bootloader and see if it will connect. If it works it will take you to hboot with fastboot usb already enabled.
I can get to FASTBOOT from HBOOT.
So, get to FASTBOOT and then, in adb... I can make the logical jump that far, I'm not making the connection after that though.

If you can get to fastboot then do this
Download cwm recovery.img http://dinc.does-it.net/Guide_Root_New_Hboot/recovery.img and place it on your pc in the same folder as the fastboot.exe file.
Open a cmd prompt on your pc while in hboot with fastboot selected and then type " fastboot flash recovery recovery.img ".
Ps your hboot does still say unlocked at the top right?
Never mind. Pushed recovery. Rebooting now.
Edit: beautiful!! got it. Thank you, AGAIN, for all the help. XDA community in general, and especially cmlusco!

Yes it seems with 1.02 you get all the extended commands. I do have the 0.77 eng bootloader, which allows the same commands. I dont think you can downgrade from 1.02 now, even with s-off i may be wrong. I have been reluctant to upgrade to 1.02, not sure why, and instead just flash back to the eng hboot if i need the extended commands. Hope you get the 5 vibes worked out.

I have done this so many times no with multiple microSD cards and a few different PB31IMG.zip files. I can get to hboot and it sees the file, but after checking it it says that there is no image. I tried to flash CWM recovery using fastboot and it says it is successful, however when I try to go to recovery, it restarts the phone and sits on the white screen that says HTC Incredible. It will stay on that screen or continually boot to that screen.

You need to back up your sdcard to your pc. Then format the sdcard fat32 with the pc (even if its already fat32). Place this file http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/4.08.605.15/PB31IMG.zip only back on the sdcard, in no folders named exaxtly PB31IMG.zip which it should already be named. Put the sdcard back in the phone and boot to hboot. It should find the file, parse it, and prompt you to press vol up to install. Once installed remove the PB file from the sdcard and put your backed up files back on the sdcard.

Ive tried this several times. Formatted several different sdcards and and tried several different PB31IMG.zip files. Every time it scans the file and then says wrong image error.

I didn't realize I could erase cache through fastboot! unfortunately, it didn't seem to solve the issue. When i try and erase recovery so that i can flash a new one it tells me in cmd "failed, remote: not allowed". I can flash a new one and it tells me its successful, but when i select recovery from HBOOT it still drops me back into the loop.

Is your bootloader still unlocked? If not unlock it again, and then do the fastboot commands.

This is a great idea. The relock and unlock process went just find but unfortunately it didn't solve the issue.
Thank you guys for your suggestions! please keep them coming! I'm determined to get this to work somehow.

I tried a couple versions of teamwin and couldn't get it to work. Is there a way to install a different version of hboot or would that not make any difference?
