I am new to all of this technical stuff, so please, please, please help! -_-
Ok, so apparently I'm a big, fat idiot. I wanted 3.0 Sense so bad, I think I flashed a rom not for the Evo (someone pls tell me I'm not the only one!).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106799
So now I cannot boot up my phone past the white htc evo 4g screen, and I cannot boot in recovery. When I choose that option in the hboot screen, it only gives me a fastboot option and that brings me right back to the white screen. I have read so many threads on how to boot it differently, but I dont understand. If I am plugged into my USB, is there a way to flash something else? I backed my phone up before I stupidly flashed without reading all the way.. I assume because I am able to get into hboot that I may be able to recover from this??
Thanks for reading!

Flash the PC36IMG of amon RA or clockwork recovery. Then you should be able to flash a rom from recovery.

You place the PC36IMG on the root of your sdcard and when you boot into the bootloader it automatically searches for the file and then asks if youbeant to flash the update.
This is why I dislike root methods like unrevoked. Had you used an adb root method you would know how to do all this.

You will need a card reader, or hell even another phone that you can hook up to the copmuter to read it.
NM, I have the sd card in my computer now.. trying what you said..
Thank you.. will let you know.
Always here to help. Let us know.
Ok, loaded the zip file and its not automatically updating or even asking me. It loads a bunch of green text really fast and I think it says, No image!

Make sure it is on the root of the sd card and not in a folder. And be sure it is named exactly PC36IMG.zip
All caps and not PC36IMG.zip.zip
To be sure you have the right file. Download this (Amon RA) and put it on the root. Do not rename or anything.
Yes, that is exactly how it is. It says, No image or wrong image! Trying again..
Is there a way to restore from hboot?

Nope. You will need a recovery to restore, flash, etc. You can run the ruu and go back to stock. Try the one I posted in the last post first.

Ok, something worked (YAY!!).. now these are my new options:
Android system recovery
-Reboot system now
-USB-MS toggle
-Backup/restore
-Flash zip from sd card
-Wipe
-Partition
-Mounts
-Other
-Power off
Restore didnt work, so I am flashing an old EVO rom now.. seems to be working.. fingers crossed.......

Lol. I was hoping I would come back to see that. the reason your restore didn't work is because you were using ClockworkMod before. You can either do the same thing you just did with clockworkmod, or just start over with Amon RA. Personally, I would go with Amon RA. Seems to wipe, clear, and backup better IMO. Take care!!

All right, I'm gonna assume you're rooted since you have CWM recovery. Here's what I need you to do:
Download this.
Put it in the root (Z:\) of your SD card.
Boot into ClockworkMod Recovery
Flash the zip file.
Turn off your Evo.
Hold VOL DOWN, then press the lock button to turn it on.
It should boot into a white screen (called the "bootloader" or "hboot").
On the top line, look for "S-OFF". If it's there, continue on. If it doesn't say S-OFF, go back to step 3.
Download this.
Put this in the root of your SD card. Make sure it's named PC36IMG.ZIP EXACTLY.
Boot back into hboot. (refer to step 6)
It should detect the zip you just downloaded and ask if you want to install it.
Select yes.
Let it finish.
Tell it NOT to restart. Go into the bootloader, and select recovery. (Use the volume keys to navigate, power button to select.)
You (should) now be in Amon_RA Recovery!
You could just flash alternate recovery in rom manager.

Yeah ive had the evo rooted for a while been custom ROMing for a bit. (you would think I'd know what i'm doing by now )
What is the reason for adding PC36IMG and reloading it? This will of course blank out my current Fresh build (right?) Buy hey I'll give it ago.
Thanks man this was the trick! Im now in Aman Ra. Thank GOD I can wipe my Davlik cache now.....Thanks again
The PC36IMG.zip that I linked contains only the Amon_RA recovery. The reason you go back is because it won't take unless you have S-OFF or a .76.2000 HBOOT version, so you should verify before you start going crazy flashing stuff.
I was not able to load RA on one of my phones using ADB and had to use fastboot. I remember reading about some phones having more bad blocks and that was the case with one of our phones. I was able to use ADB for the other one.

So i wanted to get the new cm7 up and running. went into hboot and noticed that i still had .77 or something like that, remember reading that i should upgrade to .92. went back into the phone, downloaded .92, installed it....ever since then i haven't been able to reboot the phone into anything...besides hboot. it won't go into recovery. it won't do a normal reboot. it's hboot or nothing. this phone isn't the only contact with my family at home during the day that i have. so if anyone can help me i'd be very appreciative. If it involved adb...i would need exact lines of code. i've never messed with it, so its not in my bag of tricks. the phone was having issues with boot times for the last couple of days, but it always wound up booting up. well i've been waiting on it to boot up into recovery for 10 min now, and i don't think my luck for the day is about to get any better. did battery pulls, still nothing.
any info or help at all would be GREATLY appreciated.

Did hboot upgrade or not? How are you trying to get into recovery?

it says it did. at the top of the hboot screen it says .92.000 and i'm just going to the recovery option from hboot. it won't boot the phone or into recovery though. just sits on the white htc screen, for 6 hours now.
When you update HBOOT, it can bork your boot.img. Reflash CWM and then restore a nandroid and you should be fine.
how do i reflash cwm when it won't even let me into recovery? i can update pb13img...thats abt it from what i can tell. lol.

Hboot automatically recognizes the pb12img... It's the first thing it does.
Put the file on the root of the SD card (not in any folders), boot into the Hboot and let it do it's thing.
your sd card NEEDS to be formatted to fat32 though.

Recovery is flashed from HBOOT via a PB31IMG.zip, not from within itself. You can use the PB31IMG.zip that I've linked to below.

but after about the second or third time doing so it gets stuck at the white htc evo boot screen . i can access recovery and have tried flashing other roms like cyanogen but just gets stuck.. when i tried flashing stock rom.. says installation aborted..

Your Evo is fine, so relax.
Try toggling off Signature Verification, then flashing your ROM. Also, I recommend Amon Ra over Clockwork because the newer Clockwork will not flash older ZIP files that don't use the newer install scripts. Did you at least make a Nandroid Backup before attempting any of this?

Flashing to Amon RA recovery will be your best bet. Forget about clockwork. The easiest way to flash to Amon Ra would be to use ROM Manager, and select 'flash alternate recovery'. However, you can't get booted up, so that option won't currently work for you. You can download Amon Ra V2.3 in PC36IMG, from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026. You would then place the PC36IMG on the root of your sd card, either using USB MS toggle in recovery, or by removing your sd card from the phone, and using a card reader to put it in your PC and then dropping the file on it. Then put it back in your phone, and boot to the bootloader. It will detect the PC36IMG.zip, and ask you if you want to update. Hit volume up to say yes. It will then flash the new recovery for you. At that point, I'd try wiping again, flashing Calkulin's Format all.zip (attatched), and then try reflashing a ROM. Remember, don't try restoring any previous nandroids made by Clockwork while your using Amon Ra. It will mess stuff up. Good luck.
honestly im not sure if i did i did a back up in the rom manager.. and tried restoring from there but wont do it.. and i believe the toggle is already off

Alright, I'll tell you how to get back to completely stock and then root all over again. It shouldn't take long at all. This is what you do:
1) Download this ZIP, name it "PC36IMG".zip (no quotes) and put it in the root of your memory card. Meaning if your card shows up on your computer as E:\, then put it in E:\ (no folders).
2) Go into Bootloader mode/hboot (Power + Volume Down), and let it find the zip after a few seconds. It'll ask you if you want to apply it. Hit yes. This will take a while and your phone might reboot a few times.
3) When it's done, you're on an unrooted ROM, but still S-OFF. You can do one of two things:
A) Download the latest Unrevoked and run that all over again (takes like 5 minutes).
B) Download Amon_Ra recovery zip (replace the other PC36IMG.zip) and repeat step 2 to flash it. Then flash whatever you want.
That's it. From then on you can flash whatever you want. What kernel were you trying to use btw? HTC 17?

Okay. You're almost there. Now that you have the PC36IMG on your sd card, power the phone off completely. Then hold power and vol+down so that it will put you into the bootloader. Then just wait a few seconds, and the bootloader will scan and find the PC36IMG, then tell you it found an update, and ask you if you want to update. You wll press volume up to say yes to the update. It will then flash the PC36IMG (whether its just the recovery, or if you're unrooting and rerooting using Fred's method, you flash the same way from the bootloader)
sorry, fred already got to ya!

Just to verify, because it needs to be exact. THe file that you put on your sd card, is named exactly like this, correct ? :: PC36IMG :: It must be capitals. Do Not add a :: .zip :: to the end of it, because the phone does that. If you did label it :: PC36IMG.zip, it would really be PC36IMG.zip.zip, which the bootloader won't recognize. so be sure that it is on main root of your sd card, and named properly, then the bootloader should recognize it.

What was the PC36IMG & why did you need it? You need to download a PC36IMG.zip of Amon Ra or CWM. Don't rename, update in the bootloader.

This confuses me a bit. You somehow ended up with a PC36IMG on your sd card that you had no idea what it was, then it asked you to update, and you said yes, not even knowing what it was? Is that accurate? Does your bootloader still show S off? If you flashed a PC36IMG of a factory ROM you may be S on and unrooted, so check that first. If you're still s off, and you can boot into the OS, then the easiest way for you to get Clockwork back would be to download ROM manager, and use that to flash clockwork. Just select 'flash clockwork mod recovery'. If you did in fact run a PC36IMG of the factory rom, you'll most likely need to install the Super User app again in order for ROM manager to work.
I'm very curious of what the heck you flashed, and how you didn't know what it was, lol. A little more info would be great. Are you still on the same ROM you were before you flashed it? What were the results of flashing the PC36IMG? Can you boot up?
Same thing happened to me a few days ago. Nothing is briked. Some how. After a few reeboots all came back to normal.
I fixed it, but now I am trying to get back my original backup and everythime I try it says:
Checking MD5 sums…
Erasing boot before restore…
Restoring boot image…
Error while flashing boot image!
I think my HBOOT isnt the write version but im not sure.
Hi everybody. I wonder if anybody can help me. I can't find a solution on any previous post. My Droid Inc appears to be semi bricked. I can't load a nandroid backup and it tells me that theres no image found. Im stuck at the wallpaper for MIUI.us, but it doesn't show any icons and there's no response when I touch anything. I can see the toolbar and it even shows some notifications, so the phone is working on some level, but I can't access anything. When I try to reboot into recovery, it tells me image not found. I've tried putting a stock RUU, a different version of MIUI and AOKP on the sd card, but recovery wont read it. I reformatted the sd card and pasted the clockworkmod backup file on it from my pc, but no luck. I have tried every command I can think of on ADB, but the best I can do is reboot the phone into recovery and it does the same thing again. I even tried reflashing using unrevoked. it told me the phone was rooted succesfully, but when I reboot I'm back on MIUI with no icons, just the wallpaper and the toolbar. I'm at the end of my wits here, so I'm hoping one of you guys has any ideas. this is what I see when I get to the HBOOT screen:

When I go into recovery by holding down the volume and power button. It tries to find the image file but it doesn't. Normally I would have been able to select a backup or install a ROM that I had previously saved on the SD card. But recovery can't see it. I don't know if you saw it but I transcribed in my original post the message that I get when I do this.
You're just booting into the bootloader. You have to scroll down to recovery and push the power button again to get into recovery. Then you'll find all your options for restoring and flashing.

That's it! You did it dude.I've been trying to debrick this phone for a while now. I got the RUU from another website and the guy that gave me the link said I was supposed to rename it recovery.img. This time I pasted the one you gave me and it loaded without any problem. That's what I get for not coming to XDA dev. first. Thanks a lot, man. I love this phone, it's my backup for when something happens to my Gnex or the wife's incredible 2.
