You wash yourself of what lame flash support there is for this phone when you run cm7...
I ran cm7 for quite a while before I s-off'd & did the custom mtd partition so I could run the crmod version of the stock slide 2.2... & now my volume rocker isn't responding anymore, (some kind of a hardware issue) so I'm stuck w/ this until I can open this phone up & re-solder whatever's come loose...

[Q] [Help] Girlfriend wants root

Hello all... Recently my girlfriend and I had purchased the Epic Touch 4g for her. She absolutely loves the phone but the signal strength isn't the best. I have had a Droid 1 for 2 years now and have flashed roms/kernels on a weekly basis for the past year and a half. Can anyone recommend a good starter Rom/Kernel? Is flashing a rom/kernel for the Epic Touch just as easy as flashing for the Droid? I've done some research and I am a bit overwelmed. It seems like clockworkmod recovery is being ran on the Epic Touch but the process for flashing is different? (maybe not, but like I said, I'm a tad overwelmed ).. Also, are there any tweaks after root that would improve signal strength? If anyone can help me out to get us started I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
-Mike
I recommend starburst rom v1.6.. it comes with LostKernel which is a good kernel to use.. for root though, there are dif. methods, i originally rooted mine with Zedomax Kernel through Odin.. fairly easy .. so get it rooted, and i'd go with starburst v1.6 which when flashing it through CWM once you have root, also flashes the lostkernel
I recommend Starburst. Runs sooo smooth and its the only ROM that I see being actively updated. Viper just got into the game so if you don't like touchwiz, you can flash his ROM too which uses another launcher but i would say equally great. Comes down to preference and what works best.
And to get root and clockwork, I followed bubbys
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1287776
It seems to get root you have to use odin, but once thats done you can use clockwork to flash ROMs. If you get issues Odin is there for support.
Thanks! Too bad my girlfriend starts work in an hour
Take a look at this thread Id really recommend to check the links I have linked to save you some pain....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1309078
So wait... after reading that thread it says that the bootloader keeps a record of everytime you flash with Odin? So if something happens to her phone and we need to take it in, they will know we rooted it?
A good reason to use starbursts rom is because its just way smoother some how and he stream lined the rom and did a bunch of tweaks that make noticably fast/smoother. That's the reason most are using it

Cool, thanks, I got worried for a little bit there... I mean, we got it rooted and everything just fine, but I failed to mention to my girlfriend that there might be a slight problem if we tried to take the phone in ... I figured that problem would get solved eventually but it's good to know I'm in the clear
yeah I wouldn't worry about it, chances are if you flash everything stock theres still a counter chances are they wont notice or pay it much attention. its possible but, I've had friends take their evo in with security off and everything else flashed stock and it was ok.
Bring her to me I will root her. Don't bring your cable I will use mine to plug in her smoothly in order to root through odin.

You can use a jig, it will get rid of the yellow triangle on bootscreen and bring the counter down to zero.
The jig costs $7 MAX, all you do is plug it into microusb while phone is on, and the phone reboots automatically, and everything is back to normal. Process takes about 30 seconds max, and you can use the jig multiple times, with how many ever samsung phones, it is NOT a one time use deal.

Issues Restoring Stock Rom on my Device

Hi everyone,
as my username suggest I'm a noob of the worst kind!:good:
My problem is that somehow I managed to root my phone (on htc dev)
and without backing up anything I installed
cm-7-20120616-UNOFFICIAL-marvel
Now, this rom is great but..
-I'm having issues with the gps navi (I already looked into it
and instelled a fix)/(which is not that bad I can live with what it is right now but still sometimes gps freaks out and gives wrong infos)
-the youtube apk don't work (and youtube mobile too)
-the quality of the videocam shoots is not the best..
so, like a proper noob I decided to go back the the stock rom
just to find out is not easy at all!!
I followed so many tutorials on the xda site (always failing)
and now I'm tring to make a last SOS before moving to a new phone
I love my wildfire and it would be so sad to abandon it,
so
since I keep failing I though that I might be ignoring some major issue that i don't even know!
so giving you my specifics might be the right way
to understeand what direction I should follow to install the stock rom
here's my data
Wildfire S UMTS S-ON
Android 2.3.7
CM 7.20120616
MARVEL PVT SHIP SON RL
H BOOT - 1.09.0099
RADIO7.57.39.10
thanks for the time guys!cheers
I'm assuming you have the HTC Wildfire S A510e.
Try the cm7 ROM from this link http://d-h.st/mwM
The original thread is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226765&page=189
This is supposed to have a fix for youtube. You'll still need to flash the d33ps1x gps fix. And if you still don't like the cm7 and want to return to stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1325730
Scroll down to stock ROMs and pick the one that is suitable for you. Otherwise, if you still have the RUU*.exe from Unlocking the Bootloader, try that. It should work.
thanks, Im gonna try this

[Q] Bottom touchkeys quit working

I'm a noob here, so plz don't flame me if this isn't posted in exactly the right place.
A few days ago, the 4 touchkeys across the bottom of my T989 suddenly stopped working, out of the blue. I don't know why.
When I bought my T989 in Nov2011 (my 1st android), I got it from a guy who bought it for his son, but his son decided he wanted an iPhone instead, so it was brand new with box and factory screen protector and all that, BUT already rooted and running GB 2.3.5 Juggernaut 3.1. Until now, I didn't want to mess with it because I didn't know jack and didn't want to f*** up my phone, so I've been operating flawlessly without any rom or FW updates for 14 months. But since it's f***ed up now anyway, it's time to get my android s*** figured out.
In the past few days I've flashed stock ICS 4.0.4 AFTER WHICH the touchkeys functioned normally UNTIL Kies said there was newer system FW, and so I updated to that with Kies, and then they didn't work anymore again. NEXT, I found out about the *#2663# code, flashed back to GB 2.3.5 and succeeded in updating the touchkey FW, but that didn't help. I opened the phone and carefully examined the touchkey hardware and (without removing the screen) everything appears perfect. It's clean and there are no pinched or torn ribbon connections from a screwed up factory assembly. Also, I have had my phone in a D30 case since day one and it's been forever since I've dropped it. Obviously, I don't know for sure if this is a hardware or software issue, but the fact that the touchkeys worked again after originally flashing ICS, and the touchkey lights still flash on at startup, is screwing with my mind.
The only thing left to try that I can think of is to revert to the older pre-Kies-update system FW (which, so far, I prefer), but I don't even know if that's possible. Can anyone give me a clue, or any other ideas? Thx.
I kinda lost track of your troubleshooting but I'll give u a suggestion.
1. Flash cwm 5.0.2.7 recovery
2. Flash darkside super.wipe script
3. Flash slim star 2.2 ROM
4. Flash gapps 10/11/12
5. Flash darkside cache.wipe script
6. Reboot and wait 5-10 min
7. Reboot again and setup ur phone.
If your soft keys quit working again, I would be stumped.
PS. I picked cwm 5027 cuz its what I use and if u have any follow up questions I could answer them. Twrp and others are just as valid. I picked slim star ROM because I can confirm everything works also if u have follow up questions I could answer them. If you do not have cwm5027 recovery then DO NOT used the two scripts I mentioned. Good luck

Okay, so, here's what I did:
Using TWRP Touch Recovery 2.3.3.0
Wiped cache, dalvik cache, system, android secure, and factory reset
Flashed slim star 2.2 ROM
Flashed gapps 10/11/12
Wiped cache, dalvik cache
Rebooted & set aside for 11 minutes
Rebooted & setup
It's weird, during bootload the touchkey lights light up (which they always used to with juggernaut), but only dimly, not full strength. But they don't respond to touch...so far...
I like this slim star rom. It's graphically minimalist, but it's loaded with options.

gapps 10-11-12
I guess the other 2 good things about this rom is that it allows me to have all the toggle controls in the status bar which I absolutely can't live without (only having five in the stock roms is like sandpaper on my brain), but also gives me a navigation bar that allows me to replicate the touchkeys I've lost with a replica software navigation bar directly above that I can set up with the same "touchkeys." It takes up some screen area, but I can bump the screen resolution to a higher density to make up for the lost real estate.
The only problem i'm having is with gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip, even though twrp said it flashed successfully, I don't have the google apps. I tried flashing it again, still no gmail, maps, navigation, etc. (The ones in Google Play I guess are the 121212 versions and aren't compatible.)

Your device is not compatible with this version
Yes, my hardware touchkeys still don't work. I've been slogging away at this for about a week now and I'm ready to give up.
I would run with this slim-star rom because I can put software touchkeys right above my inoperable hardware ones. Plus I really like the rom.
But I have a hurdle still.
Yes, I have the play store, but...
When I go to download the gmail app from the play store, it tells me "Your device is not compatible with this version" and it doesn't give me a download button. It does that for other google apps too.
So now the hurdle is google apps. Why is play store telling me this? Is there something wrong with how I flashed my slim-star? I flashed from a v2.2 found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2109841.
thx

Screen Resolution
Actually, I never updated to ICS via Kies, although I did let Kies flash some type of firmware update. I regretted it immediately.
The fact that I changed the screen resolution from 240 might have something to do with playstore not liking my device. I'm going to look into that. LCD Modder Pro might fix it...
Thx

[Q] HTC One V AOKP hardware issues

Hey guys,
After trying to install Cyanogen and just getting stuck in a boot loop I opted for AOKP which was the first rom to finally boot up on the device. At first things seemed great but my flash seems to be rife with errors that others don't seem to be getting on AOKP. So here we go...
- Notification/ring tones will not play. There is no sound for some reason. (if I select the ringtone, where it would normally play is just silence)
- ALL calls are played through the speakerphone. There is seriously no way to make it play through the ear piece.
- Headphones do not work. (yes, I've used different headphones, etc). If I have them plugged in the music still plays through the loud speaker (rear speaker)
- I can't send or receive picture messages (not a carrier/provider issue)
- Can't play videos (I have tried the youtube app, youtube website) videos simply just do not play
- Numerous multimedia file errors (if I try to open a video on a website I get a "Sorry, this video cannot be opened") and if I try to open some audio files I get the same error.
Anyway to fix this? I've flashed the latest kernel in the AOKP Primou thread, as well as numerous others (hellboy, etc) as well as just a CM10 kernels. The hellboy one just gave me a bootloop and every other one makes NO difference.
Any help guys?? I tried to post in the Primou AOKP thread but I don't have the correct "privileges" yet because I haven't posted enough.

My apologies, I forgot to mention I don't have a recovery of the stock ROM. It's a long story but basically the only functioning ROM I can use is this one. I've also tried running the RUU but it says that it's the wrong file version, despite it being the right carrier/radio, presumably due to the stock rom not being on the phone. Is there any way to push the RUU onto the phone?

You can force HBOOT to install the RUU for you. Just look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018518 under the "Solution #2" heading. Just remember to rename the .zip file on your SD card once you're done, or HBOOT will find it every time you boot to the bootloader.
I am stuck with same issues.
And as far as I know there is no problem from your side.
It is just because build is not fully stable yet.
I tried to post comment regarding it to developers profile but couldn't do it as m new to this site. Hope to have a more stable build asap.

Feeling a little lost here.

So i finally got my Xperia Play R800i and unlocked it. So now i have full fastboot access (which i havnt used much in the past so im a little rusty). While browsing the forums for Clockwork mod and roms and kernels i find myself having a few problems. I cant find clockwork mod (does it exist for this phone? or TWRP?) and also I have NO idea which rom to choose and there are SOOO many. I could really use a little run down and some recommendations here. Anything would be great

As an XDA rule you can't post asking for recommendations of ROMs/kernels (otherwise thread will be closed) u are beet trying them out for yourself. But if u want gaming you should stick with GingerBread. With XP u can't flash recoveries they are built into the kernels ramdisk. Yes there is TWRP but common problem with TWRP is not backing up of android secure.

Lol I just knew someone was going to rules me on the "dont ask about roms its bad 4 u". Theres so many threads for roms.....im not going to be able to try them all, and some of them are broken or not worth flashing. I just wanted some info because ive never owned a sony device and this one has so many caveats that one would only know from either being here from the beginning or getting advice. pardon if i seem to be rude, im just confused and trying to get a feel for how this device works. If i cant flash recoveries how do i flash things? Fastboot(can you flash roms with fasboot??) how do i know if a kernel is antiquated and will break things? Flashtool also seems confusing to me. And again as far as asking about which roms people suggest I wasnt asking for "whats the best? Flame on!" which is what that rule is there to prevent. I simple asked for a recommendation as i have no foundry or basis of where to start. I know im one of a hundred people that has asked and will ask these questions....but isnt that what were here for?

I'm not flaming, if you took it that way it is not the intended purpose. I'm just saying "recommendations for ROM's" can be preceived as asking for the best ROM by some users, which will then mean your thread will be closed. A good place to see which ROMs/Kernels others are using is this thread in general http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2235336. Anyway to what you are asking. Flashtool may look a bit daunting, but is one of the easiest tools to use.
RC fma has some good guides. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2054486 - will help you with flashing an FTF (flashmode)
or this one For flashing kernel and custom ROMs. -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2054512.
To get recovery on your device you must flash a kernel first via fastboot mode (refer to the guide above). Then you can flash a ROM via CWM or TWRP as you usually would.
Hey I really appreciate the info and feedback. This device feels so foreign to me for some reason but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. Installed doomkernel14 with fastboot then figured out the weird tap back key to get into recovery. And now I'm on a GB ROM that is so much faster than stock. Coming into a old phone that's new to you is kinda like coming into the last 5 minutes of a class before a test hah.

No worries. Ye its actually easier then any other device I own (non-Sony). Ye it depends on kernel. Mine u need to press vol down for CWM and volume up for TWRP. Also a heads up, in case u ever flash one of my kernels. U will need to flash phoenix_vendor.ftf to have unlocked vendor partitions. This is to accommodate for custom partitions. Basically /system and /cache are shrunk to give 600mb+ storage in data.
U will need to flash the phoenix-vendor.ftf first then in fast boot
Code:
fastboot erase userdata && fastboot erase system
Then boot to recovery and flash ROM as usual. Sounds a bit daunting but isn't at all. I'd recommend that if u bought the device for gaming stick with GingerBread, welcome to and enjoy the XP forums.

Right now im using AtoMic GB - PLAY r2 and i reallly like it (along with DooMKerneL14). One thing that i wonder if you could help me with tho. No matter what I do when im in an emulator the circle button always takes me out of the emulator. Any way to actually have it just work like normal? It didnt do that on stock from what i remember. Also what is all that Vendor ftf stuff? Is there a thread that explains any of that stuff? Thanks again!
only flash the vendor-unlocked ftf when needed. vendor is a usually locked partition. with ics it got unlocked and more space for the rom and kernel was there.
it's hard to find the right one for oneself. look in every thread and it's features, check the comments if no serious problems are accuring (well you can't really count on them) and try it.
ask yourself first: what features do you really -need-
about the circle-button issue: can be emulator related. some aren't optimized for the play (circle is in fact nearly the same as the back-button - just with an ALT modifier) try another one (hint: retroarch r16)
it also can be the rom (wrong build.prop entries or the keylayout files are not right).
In this case its the rom because other people reported the same problem. Anyways I'd recommend you use xperia nxt 2 r1. It has a similar look and no bugs that I noticed. (Emulators play fine) everything works
