[Q] rcms 1.1 or ic v17 - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi,
which rom is better?
What about speed, stability, other features, battery?

Just upgraded to 1.1 and all is well with camera working and 720p. Its really stable and fast with the cm7 hboot. That's for me anyway.
I tried an earlier version of insertcoin and it was buggy. Just really wasn't great to use at all. But that was many versions ago.
From what I have tried, rcmixs works great.
Sent from RCMixS

RCMixS 1.1 a2sd is the best rom I've ever used Really fast, no fc's at all. I think both robo and baad did their best. Good job guys!

I am using RCMix S v1.2 and it is working great, with amazing speed if you compare it to stock roms. cheers.

I am using InsertCoin v18 and its - in my opinion - far more stable than RCMix S. On RCMix S i got FCs all the time, the autoinstall script messed everything up and the rom was slow.
On InsertCoin, everything runs nice and smooth. Battery life is not as good as Oxygen's, but its definetely better than Stock Froyo's. I get about 1 1/2 days with normal usage.

Best ROM right now for Desire?

I have tested 4-5 roms, and all have some problems.
What is the perfect ROM now? Not HD.

There is no perfect rom, there is only a rom you like best. Other people can tell you what they prefer but that does not have to apply to your preferences.
If you want to see what the most popular rom there is a poll some were in general.

did u try Leedroid?
It's all up to you. I'm using Oxygen 2.0 and I love it. It's missing the video camera function until the N1 OTA update but I have never used that anyways so I'm more than happy with it.
I personally use MIUI, brilliant rom but confusing updates, they realease new software all the time to its virtually bug free for me.
It has too many features to list, i find something new and by the time i found all the extras they release another update.
Try MIUI, its like a iphone but you can easily change the theme.
Battery life is somethin else and im using there stock kernel, 17 hours, sync on, wifi on, auto brightness (actually works) and mild to heavy use.
I'll try MIUI
Tried LeeDroid, MIUI, Oxygen (1.0 and 2.0), VillainROM, GinerVillain, SuperVillain, DeFrost, CM6, CM7, Ginger Redux, Amethyst. To be honest, I currently have CM7 installed but I am constantly changing ROMs anyway. CM7 to me actually works the best out of the Gingerbreads. I would say that if you want speed, stick with MIUI if you installed it since I got 2135 score in Quadrant (MIUI 1.1.12). But it is up to you. There is NEVER the "best" ROM.
i have tried about 10 different roms and i think insertcoin for hd is nice also leedroid is very good and fast
for me starburst, it is very stable, almost no issues at all. stock sense rom + the magnificent data2sd. i used to flash a rom once in a while, but now..im sticking to starburst. maybe its for a long time.
The op should be more specific in what he looks for, is it sense, non-sense or miui rom?
I find Sense ROMs more appealing than other two, and my favorites are Leedroid and AuraxTSense.
Leedroid is very fast, I used it for more than a month, but found that some memory leaks are happening to me and a few other users. It is a deal breaker for me at this time since the phone becomes unusable when it happens until rebooted, so I swinged back to AuraxTSense. It's performance is also admirable, it boots somewhat longer, but at this time it seems more reliable than the Leedroid. Both are equally fast and snappy in operation. Also snq's kernel has some quirks at this time, the phone rebooting itself when connected to a car cradle, screen turning on during charge being some of them for example.

CM7 Every Build till now has major issues at the moment (major for me for some none) as MMS and VPN don't work.
I am using the Redux-RC2.1 running gingerbread 2.3.2 in a very smooth way - highly recommended. VPN issue hasemt been solved yet but should be in the upcoming RC3 coming soon from the developer. MMS is not an issue and working great

Yes it works!
I've been using HiApk for a while now, loving it's speed. It's problem free so far.
Leedroid and AuraxTSense.
In my opinion there is a perfect rom.. Oxygenrom
It has a very fast and stable base, perfect power menu configuration
All functions like camera and gps work proper and rom feels really smooth
Depends on what appeals to you but personally, AurxTremeGinger or Reflex S do it for me.
Asking what the best rom is, is like asking what the best car is.
I found Redux v1.2 is a brilliant Rom Clean, fast and stable.
At the moment I test the InsertCoin v17 Rom and I found also it is a very nice Rom.
There is no perfect rom at the moment...
- Froyo sense roms are the most stable (Leedroid, Teppic's, AuraxTSense...) but they are not the fastest. (I think we can add HD/Z roms in this categorie)
- AOSP rom lack of some features like 720p, FM radio, HTC apps and widgets ; there is also this endless call delay bug. Despite that, they are the fastest roms at the moment and they can be very minimalist (and I'm sure a lot of people like minimalist roms like DevNull or Oxygen)
- MIUI is quite interesting but settings menu are so slow.
- New Sense roms begin to grow up, but I think the fact we are porting RUU from other devices to our Desires affects the quality of those roms.

[Q] BEST stable ROM for Desire

i know this question has been asked many times before but since then a lot of new roms has been released.I'm looking to install a stable gingerbread rom.I gave CM7 a try, being as good as it is...there's still a few bugs here and there. So which ROM would you guys recommend?
I would certainly recommend the Desensenized version of RCMixHD.
All the great software from HTC is still there (camera app, facebook for htc sense, music app, calendar, mail,...) but without the launcher and widgets. The rom is crazy fast and at least for me gives good battery life.
By the way, just did a quadrant run and scored between 1450 and 1500.
Oxygen is no. 1 for me (tried stock froyo, GingerVillain and Redux)
^^ Thanks .. i'll look into installing one of those
I would say Oxygen 2.0.1/2.0.2(test). I find them very stable, but I use 2.0.2 test
miui is my bet
Been using Oxygen 1.0.4 (Froyo) for a few months now and absolutely love its simplicity and minimalistic aspects. Stable and very , very smooth.
Vote RCMixHD
Starburst because of speed stability and loads of free space

I would say that aswell, if the op was looking for a froyo build.
MIUI is pritty slick, but the gingerbread release is a bit buggy right now. Expect it to be stable in a few weeks

So it's a tie between miui and oxygen but since i'm looking into a gingerbread rom i think i'll go for oxygen
Thanks for all the great suggestions guys.
After silently tested almost every single rom for Desire, I settled with Redux.
Almost no issues (except date in notification bar being not conventional for my country date type - 2011 3 25 - i hate that date format).
"Pays-ROM HD v1.1 + Z [A2SD+] [OC] " try it.

Gingervillain
Tested some and the 2 best were oxygen and GingerVillain.
At the moment i'm stuck at GingerVillain
Well, it is nearly a matter of religion
My favorite so far is the Reflex S by NEO
GingerVillan is very stable rom .. been using it for a while b4 i go for MIUI cuz i think its better and very stable also
Oxygen 2.1.3 is very stable and faster than it has been
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
I tried many roms but didnt try flashing kernels, hboot and things like.
For pure Android I love Oxygen
but I want widescreen pics so I tried some Sense ROMS and I think the InsertCoin is very stable(1.0.8 stable version) and good rom
+1 for Oxygen 2.1.3

Best GB Rom ?

Well im just curious to some user opinions.
The title is self-explanatory ,which of the three GB roms is the best, and why?
Redux 1.1.2 is the best for me, im using it for 2 month and had NO PROBLEMS. Its very fast stable and clean just smooooooth . Very happy with it
CM7 is the best rom for me, smooth perfomance and good battery life
Oxygen 2.0.3 is very stable and silky smooth.
gingersense <3
it is the best rom out there
now it has almost no issues except limited camera options and trackpad to unlock
very smooth and fast and stable
been using it from first test builds
its amazing
and it looks beautiful
try robocik's RCMix S v7++ with camera patch
Leedroid V 3.0.
Still in beta, but looks very promising!

Exceptionally good battery life, I couldn't be happier with this ROM. I've used Oxygen for well over four months now and I don't miss Cyanogen at all.
I'm using Robo's RCMix S v07++...since the camera fix this become my daily ROM...I love sense! = )
CM7 is my most favourite rom, by far. It works unlike all the other roms which either slow down or are just buggy or just don't work at all. And yes, I have tried them all.
nice work of rcmix S and coolexe also! it's from desire s base
Gingervillain! Very fast, looks really nice and with the Eviollet Kernel the battery will last long
RCMix S!!
It os running very smooth. Faster than the original i think.
But the camera fix doesn´t work on my Desire.
redux 1.1.2. ridiculously fast and stable.
Currently I'm using Redux 1.1.2, but I'll flash CM7 soon ...
Redux 1.1.2 is silky smooth. Tried Oxygen but prefer the styling of Redux Themed. Both very light (no Sense stuff) but love them.
What I've Used
To Date I've Been Thru: HTC Evo
VirusRom GingerSense- using currently, above average bat life, beautiful layout and UI, no real options for tweaks but has Spareparts and working Mobile Hotspot
MIUI GB- very iPhone-ish, completely different from anything else I've used. Interesting UI, not userfriendly, working WiFi tether, decent bat life.
Misfit GB- not much different from VirusROM but with a MikFroyo base and a little better bat life. Nice UI, no real tweaks 'cept for Spareparts
Cyanogen 7- tweaks and customization like you'd never believe (as usual) but bat life is average at best. No WiFi Tether but one of the best ROMs for UI
Others I love:
Synergy v3.5- fav overall, different without being difficult, wonderful bat life, speedy UI and working Mobile Hotspot. Spareparts and preferences for decent tweakage
Ava-Froyo Overhaul- elegant Sense ROM, best bat life I've found yet, no real tweaks other than Spareparts. Multi-color status bar
Plutonium- similar to Ava-Froyo with nicer asthetics and interesting UI. No real tweakage but great bat life.
Destroyer the Sequel- Cyanogen based ROM, no WiFi Tether but great UI and tweaks. Great asthetics and performance.
Koni Elite 3- ACS at it's finest
*Opinions of a Daily Rider*
I like redux but the bootloops were annoying, they maybe sorted now, super quick and good battery. Just missed sense widgets etc
I was using Oxygen 2.0.3 for about two weeks, and it is pretty good rom. I think all AOSP Gingerbread ROMs are very fast and smooth. Now I'm using Leedroid's Gingerbravo ROM and it is also fine. Faster than Sense Froyo and it has some functions from DHD's Sense 2.0.
Oxygen - super stable, fast and battery efficient - no problems at all. Redux is also good. Of course, ROMs based on official GB test (LeeDroid, coolexe...) should be ok, but i don't like Sense - it's bloated and has worse battery than AOSP ROMs.

[Q] InsertCoin vs LeeDroid vs AceSMod

Hello all,
Which one of these Gingerbread Sense ROMs do you recommend based on the following criteria?
- Overall speed and stability
- Space left after installing A2SD version
- Battery life
- Inclusion of Sense 3 stuff
- Any other comment
Thanks in advance.
PS: I am a regular reader of the forum. Seen many of the "which one is the best.." threads, but haven't seen one with an in depth comparison..
I use AceSMod007 from v07, it is very fast and stable ROM with good battery life. There is many free space for apps
Sense 3 works great, no lags and no FCs.
ROM is just great, nothing to add more
I use AcesMod007 too. I love the Sense3.0 integration. I've used LeeDrOiD HD port and AcesMod007 and can tell you that while LeeDrOiD is a bit faster, AcesMod007 is better if you want Sense3.0. It's stable fast and in general just really good.
+1 to acesmod. Very fast and stable.
InsertCoin CM7 HBOOT/STOCK 1.1.0 seems a good one.
The best way to find out is to try them for yourself. Everyone has different taste so you won't get a definite answer. Give them a go and see which works best for you

You have two updates newer than the version you use now. Try upgrading and see if that helps. I recommend doing a full wipe while you're at it.

+1 for insertcoin 1.1.1 cm7r2 hboot
fastest rom for desire!
I am running InsertCoin 1.1.1 CM7r2 hboot too, no issues at all concerning speed or lags. Sense also runs smooth without FC and enough space for apps. Nevertheless have to admit that I did not yet try LeeDroid or Ace, but I guess I also will not try as InsertCoin runs perfect for me.
Just installed Ace. Good rom, smooth and bug-free (until now) but 3D acceleration is not good.
In 3D with Quadrant I have about 20fps less than with Starburst and flash streaming is laggy.
Is this a problem of all the Gingerbread roms?

Rom for everyday use

It's been a while where ppl always compare the best desire rom out there... let's discuss what rom u guys recommended for everyday use... I'm currently using Oxygen rom, fast stable and hell lot of spaces, and since i'm starting to use 3G, i gonna switch to sense rom, needed sense widget and stuff, might get insertcoin rom... what about u guys?
I'm currently using InsertCoin Sense 2.1/3.0 1.1.4 and although it is great to look at, I perhaps wouldn't recommend it for everyday use as in the new version I have been experiencing some lag and unfortunately (and probably most importantly) it hasn't been too great with battery life.. although I haven't used SetCPU to try and improve it.
I would almost be tempted to go for a FROYO based ROM, but I think what you'll have to do is test a few and see how they perform for you.
I'm running InsertCoin 1.1.4 as well and I'm having a blast. It does lag every now and then, but my battery life's brilliant - I usually have about 30% left when I go to bed. I'm probably not the heaviest user on the planet, though.
I'm using SetCPU though, so that might be why. It's set to 499-1190 (smartassV2) with a Screen Off rule for 245-460. Seems to do the trick.

Use this one, yesterday coolexe did fabulous update.. EVERYTHING is working perfectly, including camera and flash.
It's Sense 3.0 ROM (not 2.1 + 3.0) and its just fast as 2.1, i was shocked when tried it for a first time.
TBH it's atm. best Sense 3 ROM in Desire section, and i tried all of them.
I'm using stock HBOOT InsertCoin 1.1.4, working well for me.
I'm using my own Rom with custom hboot

gotta agree, it's really nice and smooth rom. check it out. but insert coin is ok also
Can highly recommend oxygen.
TouchPaled from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
I've been experimenting with ROMs for a few months now. Here is what I've found:
1) The most stable, light, low power ROM that I've used is MIUI. It has everything you need out of the box.
2) If you don't like the MIUI interface (read: like an iPhone and Android combined), the next best is Redux 1.2. Very low power, but very basic. It is basically a shell as I didn't like a lot of the stock components. I had to get a new launcher, dialer, contact manager and SMS app.
3) Sense-based ROMs feel nice until the battery dies... which happens way too quickly. The stock ROM was the most stable for me, I just wanted Gingerbread. All of the Sense-based ROMs that were non-stock seemed to buggy for me.
I'm a computer engineer, so I don't mind playing around with technology, but MIUI and the stock ROM were the only ones that I'd recommend to somebody less technical (or somebody that just wants the smartphone to work and not have to constantly look for fixes and / or ways to make the phone work the way it should out of the box) for daily use.
Yes I'm using that Rom too and can't fault it. It's fast for a sense 3 Rom.
Currently on MIUI 1.8.26.
Cant comment on the batt yet since i just flashed this yesterday but hell yeah, its fast.....

I have to say I disagree with almost all of that
It's based in cm7 so its one of the heaviest aosp Roms around.
To compare, miui xj, with my brutal stripping, I got down to 90MB bare bones. That's 30 MB bigger than dGB and 25MB bigger than redux in the same state.
Also imho, cm7 is heavier on battery, ergo so is miui. Redux is better power wise, although a miui custom kernel could help them there.
Out of interest what mA are you getting on 3g whilst idle?

I am currently on IC 1.1.4 with newest noncallrec kernel. Works fine whereas 1.1.4 had some freeze issues, 1.1.3 worked perfect for me. No lags, no freeze, quite fast. I am also not a heavy user hence my bat lasts almost the whole day.
I'm on Cool3D AceS v2. Nice rom, fast and stable. Was using cyanogenmod, but was missing sense
