[Q] Question about superuser permission denied - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,guys, I am a Chinese.
I got a Desire Z recently, and wanna flash the rom.
I followed the procedure, get temprooted, and perhaps permrooted.(I can access the "root" directory every time I restart my phone with R.T explorer)
I linked the phone to the PC,(Charge only, and USB debugging checked) and run adb, but cant get SU permission.
It's so too in the Terminal Emulator,
I also installed a program on my phone called "superuser permissions", run it, just black screen.
Why? Anyone can explain. Thanks.

If you got your Z recently, its probably not rootable by the "normal" methods. The reason you are getting "superuser permission denied", is becuase you aren't rooted.
ROMs version is higher than 1.34 are not rootable. You can check your ROM versions by going to Settings>About phone>Software information; and look under "Software number".
If your ROM version is above 1.34, you can still root, but you need to downgrade first to 1.34, then root:

2.2 Root questions (probably simple)

Before froyo, I rooted my Incredible and set S-OFF, then unrooted (left S-OFF) and updated with OTA. So today I have 2.2 stock unrooted with S-OFF. I'm trying to root now and I followed steps 15-21 of this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771178 but the phone still isn't rooted. Actually I don't really know how to tell if it is or not, but apps that require root access (like ShootMe) say they can't get it, even though it's granted in the Superuser app. If I go into hboot it shows version .92, which I believe is the correct one...?? What I'm wondering now is can I just run unrevoked (now that it works with 2.2) instead of the steps in the above listed post, or is that going to screw something up?
BTW I did search the forums for over an hour so if this is already covered somewhere, I'd appreciate a PM with a link to the post. Thanks in advance!
Run unrevoked 3 ... It will root froyo
Ok I just downloaded unrevoked version 3.21 and ran it. I already ran a prior version when my phone was still on Android 2.1, so I already had the windows hboot drivers installed. Now when I run unrevoked 3.21 I still get that "waiting for hboot drivers" message and I can't do anything with it. Nothing shows up in device manager as either "other device" nor as "android phone" so I can't get past that point of unrevoked. The drivers are there, but the computer and phone don't connect properly once it's in hboot. Any ideas?
Apparently there was a prob and I didn't get payload update and su applied, so I went back into recovery and did that and everything's working now.

[Q] OTA update doesn't work

Hi everyone!
This is the situation:
I got my unlocked HTC Desire HD from an authorized store but when I started it (at home) I've noticed that is branded from T-mobile Germany.
Since I use a Vodafone SIM, I decided to unbranded it. So I installed this stock ROM: RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.6_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26 .03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed. I followed the steps described in a thread on this forum, using Visionary and One click S-OFF tool. Everything was just fine. My device works without any problem except one: can't find OTA updates.
WHAT COULD IT BE? IS THERE SOMETHING I COULD MAKE TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE?
Thank you in advance,
joaquin
As far as I know, once you have s-off and root and a custom Rom installed, the ota update will not work. If you want the update you will need to install a custom Rom running the new update.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
I understood that the stock ROM is not a customized ROM.
And I checked in bootloader and the first row looks like this:
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON
Doesn't this mean that my device has S-ON?
Is it possible that my device to be still rooted? If yes, is there a solution to make it unrooted?
Joquin
To be more specific, when i say can't find OTA updates, I mean I don't receive notification about updates and when I manually check it says "There are no updates available for your phone."
Do you know which CID you have on phone?
I had rooted, Eng S-Off and Radio S-Off (Super CID-11111111) on phone and phone found OTA update. Although I didn't tried to install it since in that way I'll be loosing root.
If I understand correctly youre still on 1.32 and you want to aquire root and S-OFF AND you want to update to 1.72?
If that is what you want, you will not be needing a prompt from your phone to update the system, because that way you will not be keeping root/S-OFF after the update.
Ensure you have BOTH Eng S-OFF and Radio S-OFF and you did temproot with visionary+. Check IVO's refference thread for that.
Its gotta work.
Then, for updating the phone correctly, take your time to read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885996
its not an easy guide for beginners (such as myself), but if you read the entire thread you will eventually get out. I did too.
I'm sorry, but I don't know where to find the CID number.
In the bootloader doesn't appear.
Joaquin
@maurei
I know if I will update to 1.72 is not possible to root at this moment and probably I will not make this update. But I want the OTA updates working not only for now.
Thank you anyaway
Joaquin
ah, hit quick reply instead of edit I guess.. soz for the dubble post, del this one
Thats what I'm saying my friend - you CAN have root AND 1.72
Its not possible to root fromin 1.72, but it IS possible to maintain root as you upgrade from 1.32 to 1.72 .
Reading my previous post made me realize it wasn't so clear.

I meant:
Then, for updating (=manually installing the update through recoverymode) the phone correctly (correctly =MAINTAINING ROOT and S-OFF), follow that guide.
Be sure you have ENG S-OFF and Radio S-OFF + permroot with Visionary+.
Also, be sure not to remove any preinstalled apps as this will cause unnecessary problems during the install
Sorry if I wasn't able to make myself clear.
My goal is not to have a rooted device. Maybe in the future I'll make this step if it will be necesary.
I want my device as new one, from store. I explained in the first post of this thread why I'm in this situation.
Through this thread I want to find a way to get OTA updates.
BTW, I understood that if the device is rooted OTA updates aren't possible. So I installed visionary+ and I used the "unroot now" button and I received this message: "your device doesn't appear to be rooted" or something like this.
It seems is not about unroot or s-on (see the 3rd post, too).
Anyway, if somebody has any idea, it would be apreciated to share.
Thanks,
Joaquin
You should at least get radio s-off before you upgrade. You'll thank me later if you decide you do actually want root.

I've read about this and if I'll decide to upgrade I'll do it for sure.

[Q] Unable to root, please help

Hi guys.
I've tried both the manual rage and the automatic Visionary R14 methods.
I'm not able to get into temp root with anyone of these two methods
Visonary gives me a black screen and the rage method crashes the terminal emulator app after it restarts (Should restart into temp root, but it just crashes)
Both methods makes the devide VERY slow, i need to reboot to get it up to speed again.
Device info
Android version
2.2.1
Kernel version
2.6.32.21
Software number
1.82.405.1
Not sure what problem is I've 3 G2's rooted using both methods, double check ur steps.
Visionary was easiest n fastest way to root for me....try to factory reset and try visionary again?
Well, that is an easy one. Any ROM version above 1.34 is not yet rootable. You are 1.82.
You need to downgrade to the official 1.34 ROM for your phone carrier/region, then root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#December_2010_DZ_OTA_1.72_Update
Also, if you are not aware, the Visionary method is riskier than other methods, and can lead to an unrecoverable brick:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025135
Kablamooo.... This has got to be the 4th or 5th thread about being unable to root lol.
Here you go. It's a guide that uses ADB & psneuters. It's probably the safest way of doing it.
Alternatively you can also try the HTC Vision Wiki one which is just as good

[Q] How To Root

Hey guys
I am totally new to the android phones, and now having a DHD which has the following specs:
Android Ver. 2.2
BaseBand Ver. 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_m
Kernel Ver. 2.6.32.21-gf3f553d
Build No. 1.32.405.6
Software No. 1.32.405.6
Now i looked at this link -
and didn't understand if i have to downgrade my DHD as well or is my version old enough so i can skip right ahead to the S-Off and ROOT?
can anyone tell me from what ver., and Ver. of what, do you have to perform downgrading?
thanks.
No need to downgrade.
Use this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
If u want an ENG bootloader (not needed for custom roms and root, but recommend):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855403
You can brick your phone, be careful!

how to root gingerbread
hi everybody,
forgive me if I' writing in the wrong place but for me has been enough difficult to get here..
I'm a rookie android user and I've been flying over the forums for the last three days, I'm really getting crazy.
Here are the specifics of my phone (branded):
android version 2.3.3
kernel version 2.6.35.10-gd2564fb
software number 2.50.405.2
and here's the problem:
I have purchased an AR drone and I'm trying to get it connected so I visited the following link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1072281
seems that the first thing i need is a ROOTED Desire HD . I have tried every thing. Visionary (in different releases installed with ASTRO) seems not to be working. When i select Temproot now, after a while, the screen turns black. I waited for several minutes but nothing happened. So I needed to exit the program selecting "home". At that point it didn't allow me to rerun the app, I needed to reboot the phone to get it working again but no success.
So I tried GINGERBREAK 1.2 but after 25 minutes the rebooting process was still going on and I guessed that something was not working properly (as usual), so I stopped it. I think there is also a problem with Superuser (v 2.3.6.3), infact when I try to update it, it says "an error occurred and su was not updated. A zip file (su-2.3.1-bin-signed.zip) has been placed on your sdcard, please reboot into recovery mode and flash it to update your su binary" (by the way...sorry for my inexperience, but what does "flash something" mean????).Anyway, my phone doesn't reboot on clockwork recovery.
Moreover, upon opening Rom manager (v4.3.2.4) it tells me that I must root my phone to get it working (of course) and that it cannot find Superuser at "system/bin/su" or "system/xbin/su". Guess what! I don't have such files on my phone.....
At this time i don't know what else I can do, I'm relly frustrated.
Can anyone help me out? keep in mind that if you have any kind of solution, I need some very "plain" explanation like if you were talking to your 5 years old son, please
Thanks
If we update with software number 2.50.405.2 can we root?
No, firmware > 2.37 cannot be rooted.
Thanks for the info, I guess I have to get rid of my AR Drone

Need to restore official software

Hi, I used kingroot app to gain root but it didn't work. However my software status has turned into modified. My phone is completely stock. Stock ROM, stock recovery, locked (not relocked) bootloader and also S-ON.
My CID is Vodap001 and it's in the UK.
I can't find a RUU for this phone, what can I do to return my "Software status" to OFFICIAL?
Well it did actually work didn't it, but you say you lost root after reboot? What you say didn't actually work is converting to super su with supersu me, so you're not giving the correct information.
If you'd have run the kinguser app after reboot it most likely would have regained root.
Also just for info, kingroot is now blocking Supersu me in its latest versions, so if you used the latest version then that could be your issue.
The earlier 4.5 versions don't block supersu me.
