[Q] Can't add MIUI theme via ZIP - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've looked around and several solutions are provided but none of them work. I have downlaoded several themes in ZIP-format. I just can't seem to add them to my theme manager. I've tried renaming to MTZ and opening via the Theme Manager->Import from SD-card, but that doesn't work either. Any solutions?

Which Miui version you are using and which theme you will use?
I have many problems with the Miui 1.4.29 version and the current themes.
Since GB I have to many problems with it. I changed back to GB Sence and give it a try

The latest? I only flashed my ROM since wednesday I believe. So I suppose the latest

Have you tried opening the zip and placing the .mtz file in the theme manager?

The ZIP doesn't contain a MTZ.

Tell us which Theme you will use then we can help.
Have you download and active other Themes over the Theme Manager?
Have you the same issue?

This is an example of a theme: http://miuithemes.com/63/paper-miui-theme/

Downloading via the Theme Manager works fine although not a lot of themes give me a preview of the theme.

Maybe it is not possible to install these themes via theme manager, because they change some systemfiles which cannot be changed with a running system?!
IMHO i would always do it on this way:
1.) Download the theme and copy it on sd-card
2.) Reboot phone into recovery
3.) Make a complete nandroid backup, just in case
4.) Flash the theme as normal
5.) Reboot phone
I think, this is the best and safest way. So you should try this and tell me, if it works.

[Q] Q Please help, can't morph anything

Metamorph gives me an error message saying it can't read the theme control file. It does this for every file I try. I'm putting the zipped files in the Android theme file of my sdcard. I assume they should be zipped. The main theme I'm trying is darkdream. I have a evo and i'm using frost Rom which has fresh as a base.
Are you certain you can theme this ROM? I just performed a search for things like "theme," "deodex," and "morph" and came up with only one result that was talking about theme'ing the dialer.
Try a different ROM and then try to use a MetaMorph theme and see if you get better results.
changing roms?
I flashed a riptide9 theme through recovery and it works fine on this Rom. I'm using frost because it has the same radio as fresh that allows me to tether with my ps3, but it has less bloat. Can u recommend a Rom that will do both and morph? I thought since frost had fresh as a base themes that work for fresh would by default work on frost

uninstall theme

Hey folks,
i got a big problem:
how can i "uninstall" a theme. Only install another theme over the old one?? I dont want to wipe my phone again...please help me!
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!
if you arent using cygnogen mode so you cant uninstall a theme. But if the theme generator made an update.zip for turning your phone standard version. If generator didnt make an update.zip you have to install official rom to remove theme

Thanx for the help!

[Q]Why hasnt anyone changed themes in stock SE Theme manager?(2.3.4)

Sony Ericsson was wonderful enough to include a stock theme chooser in our Xperia Plays so I have wondered why are we not customizing them? I see no threads about this at all or where we can share themes for our stock manager so I wanted to start one.
The process of customizing the stock theme manager is very simple and can be done by swapping out pngs within the DefaultThemes.apk. (Simply unzip, swap pics, & rezip)The images are located in "res/drawable-hdpi" folder. These "themes" are not full themes but instead they only affect the background of the dialer, contacts, alarms, calculator, stock messaging app, stock calendar, settings, & music app, & can be used with other themes (i.e ICS).
I do not know how to change the name of the preview images in manager (i.e. Fluorite, orchid, ruby, flow, sunflower, onyx ,& willow) as of yet, but I think I need to edit xml to change this. I would like to get some feedback on this and hope someone will enjoy the customized themes I made. (I have only replaced the stock images so I did not create the wallpapers or images.)
To install this:
1. Your phone must be ROOTED and you should have Root Explorer app(or other Root browser) from market.
2. You should make a backup of your phones DefaultThemes.apk file that is found in System/app folder (but I have included it to download also if you like)
3. You need to change permissions of the file before you move it into its folder. (Picture is included to show the correct permissions)
4. Lastly replace file and reboot phone. Once rebooted you should have new themes (modified themes) in stock theme manager.
Many Screenshots are below. Again...Feedback is appreciated
There are 2 customized versions and the original SE 2.3.4 Default Themes apk. Basically 14 new themes here.

V. 3 Custom Themes http://db.tt/7YFiAdd7
And Sony Ericsson Stock Original http://db.tt/oWxJ87dU
If dropbox links are not working let me know and I will re-create links or find another way to share.
Got your PM mate, wow thanks I was actually looking for this last week haha will check it out properly later but is bookmarked for now

No problem. I figure there are some really good themes posted here like ICS, Galaxy s2, & someone even just did motoblur. They all put in a lot of work & they came out great.(I use ICS personally). So I thought if I made custom themes for the manager it makes them look even better imo. If you have some images that you want to add or suggestions let me know & ill see what I can do.

[Q] Android themes question (very basic questions)

Hello I'm new to android. This is my first smartphone.
I had an ipod touch before , but that wasn't as confusing and complex as android is to jailbrake or install themes. Android overall is a very confusing system. It was very easy to theme and jailbrake my ipod touch.
I have been googling this question for some time and im still confused
My questions are:
How do install android theme?
Do all themes work for all phones?
Do you need a program to install themes (go launcher ex? what is that?)
And lastly are themes made for specific roms/phones.
Thanks.

Themes will be in a cwm flashable zip that you put on your sdcarx and flash in recovery.
Themes are very specific to the phone and rom that you are using. Sometimes I theme designed for one rom can work on another rom but that's certainly not guaranteed. Themes from a different phone will never work.
As I mentioned above, you don't need a specific program to install themes you just need to be rooted, which will install cwm on your phone.
You can find themes in the themes and apps section of this forum.

I just installed this amazing and fast rom :cm7 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1569895
And installed the Mate theme for ADW, so your saying that i don't need any launcher like ADWlauncher to install a theme? What the difference?
By the way the themes that come in .zip are complete?
Okay there's themes for the whole rom and themes for just the launcher. Themes for the launcher are found in the market and are only compatible with that launcher. Those will only affect your icons and app drawer. Themes for the rom affect your menus, status bar, etc. Now cm7 handles themes a bit differently. Cm7 themes are also found in the market (search for cyanogenmod themes). Once you download and install a theme you want, go to your app drawer and open theme chooser then pick the theme you downloaded and then reboot. No need to use recovery for cm7 themes.

Thanks that makes a lot of sense now
1 more question:
Do the zip themes that you need to flash in recovery don't use extra ram?
Example go launcher or adw launcher run on top of the system, while zip themes patch the system files so there is no extra service running. Is this true?

That is correct. All they do is replace the images with new themed images. No extra services running.
