No, it is not universal.

Try rebooting, that always worked for me.

have tried rebooting, switching roms, a lot of other things, but cannot download anything over wifi. Though, I am able to surf the net on wifi

More info required. Sorry, I have many talents but mind reading is not one of them.
When did issue first start?
Have you cleared the Dalvik-cache (be careful how you answer as "no" or "how" means you haven't searched first and that breaks one of the forum rules)?

Thanks. Yes I have cleaned up the dalvik cache. Infact while switching roms, I did full wipe and then dalvik cache wipe. But to no avail.
This problem started suddenly. Before that things were normal.

Can you download using mobile data (3G / HSDPA etc.)?
What happens when you try?

Yes, I can download through 2G

Sorry, my bad, what happens when you try to download over wifi? What errors do you get?
Have you got a friend or work where you can try a different wifi connection? Or another phone to test your own?

When i try to download over wifi, it gets stuck at "starting download" forever. I have not tried other phones, but as I mentioned, wifi is working fine since i can surf the net on the same phone over wifi!

although u r saying that wifi works properly, have you tried downloading something from the market from another wifi connection?
probably the bug will dissapear as spontaniously as it appeared.

Market Issue

Today I had several reboots on my Desire. After the third I decided to do a hard reset.
Since rebooting the Android Market has been REALLY slow.
It will find apps and let me install them, however the screen doesn't change after the install - it keeps saying installing. The only way to remove the "installing" message is to reboot
I have tried several reboots, reflashed the stock T-Mobile UK ROM and I have formatted the SD card, but none of these have fixed it.
I get the same using WiFi or mobile internet (vodafone UK)
Anyone having the same issue, or got any ideas how to resolve it??
Cheers

Delete please..
See below...
Try THIS!
If not then just wait as the Market on googles servers needs time to catch up with the diffrent build numbers changed, since a flash i belive
Mine took personally after everyflash at least a hour to start even working a bit.
EDIT: Maybe if it carries on being very slow, maybe something happened in the flash whilst in recovery, and has written some data to some bad sectors, causing this issue << only spectulation tho!

Thanks for the link, but I tried that already (after searching for this issue!)
It didn't resolve either issue for me (the slow market, or the installing issue) nor did other threads, hence me starting this one.
Any further help would be appreciated

Then referred to my second post.
Soz for the confusion
Still having this issue.
I have tried the close market place and clear cache/data idea, but no joy
I have now re-formatted (after a factory reset and clearing storage in bootloader) but it still sticks on installing in market even though the app installs fine.
Please help!
Slow for me today as well, stock Desire.
Maybe give it a day?
Okay, its been a few days now and I am still having the never ending install and slow market issue.
Surely I cant be alone??

WIFI Router does NOT work with full root

Hey everyone. between my brothers and I, we have five Evo's. two of us are running full roots and nand unlocks, the other three are using unrevoked. those that unrevoked can use the wifi router without issue, but for my brother and myself, using the wifi router results in the app crashing and having to force close.
has anyone seen anything similar? can anyone offer me some solution?
and btw, this is my third rom. they all have the same results(full wipe, data and davik cache clear each time)
Delete wi fi tether from the phone and re-download it. This has worked for me everytime i change roms =)
Hope it helps.
Do you mean the wireless tether app? I am running my own rom but it seems that it worked for me when I was using fresh. But that is the only other rom I have tried. Have you tried re-installing the tether app?
I'm not sure i can remove the base wifi tether app. it's always cooked into the rom. and i have tried reinstalling the app. i've gone from the original version, to the newer version and finally the beta version with no luck
I was having this issue for awhile. I'm not sure exactly what fixed it, but my work around was:
1. Re-install from the market place (Do not launch)
2. Reboot
3. Install this version http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre2.apk&can=2&q=NexusOne
(Don't lanch)
4. Reboot
5. Should work now
Hmmmmmm. I am sure someone else can offer better advice, but does the super user app come up to ask for permission or it fc's before that?

okay, i did exactly as you said. now the app will start, but as soon as i click on the wifi symbol, it thinks for a second and says "Unable to start tethering. Please try again!"
Edit: and on first run, it asked me for super user permissions. i click grant and checked the box to allow future requests
I am not sure if your signature is correct but have you tried flashing the newest radio? I am not sure if that would fix it or not. And the same thing happens to the other phone? Puzzling indeed. I'm sure someone will drop in and tell you how to fix it soon. Worst case, start over. Even though I know you said you tried various roms, maybe you are accidentally skipping a step, I do that sometimes

Ok, go back through the same process and try this one instead of what was in step 3.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...me=wireless_tether_2_0_2.apk&can=2&q=NexusOne
If that doesn't work, I've got nothing else. The first one was the beta you probably tried earlier. This is the stable one; however, I never tried it with this one. I always got it working using the 2_0_5 version.
Also, for ****s and giggles, have you tried updating you profile and prl?
- you didn't flash the wireless n patch over a 1.47 base Rom correct? Can you connect to a WiFi router or is it just the tether app?

uh....what?? you got me there! i thought i knew what those were, but it escapes me now.
the only thing i can think of is that the rooting process screwed up somehow. but for it to screw up in the same way for two separate phones is odd, but it's the only thing that has remained constant since the very beginning.
Menu - settings - system updates. The profile and prl won't mess with root or anything but its something I have heard to do in this case. Don't know if it will help.
Also did you see the note about the wifi n patch on the other page? I added it after I posted... like this

Well crapola. I think I'm outta ideas man. if you didn't patch the wireless n over a 1.47 Rom then I have no clue what it could be. maybe Sprint is spying on you and has your phones on lock down! but if you can't find the answer just try starting fresh. it might be a pain but who knows what little quirk could have gotten messed up.

#1 reason is probably the force CDMA command in the startup.txt. If you're CDMA, you need it to =1, if you're GSM you need it to =0. Check that & get back to us.
thnx for helping
that was the problem
i am having ths same issue with sprint. Ive tried to check and uncheck the force cdma and neither work. Where do i actually look to see it its set to 0?

You are on Sprint, so Force CDMA=1. Also probably the number one reason you have no service is the SIM card is still in. Remove the SIM and re-try Android.

I have tried removing the sim card in the past and i tried again. now what happens is that with force cdma checked it keeps trying to connect and then disconnects 20 seconds later over and over. I try to access the wireless networks settings but because it keeps disconnecting it goes back so it doesnt have achance to search for wireless networks.
If i dont force cdma then nothing happens and when i search for wireless networks it just keeps and searching but nothing happens. any help would be appreciated.
So wifi has nothing to do with CDMA/GSM... Typically wifi gets hosed from people who update their zImage but not their modules - they go hand-in-hand and while you can run without the modules, stuff like wifi won't work at all.

Ok you're still not being clear.
I assume your issue is you can't connect to the internet via the cell radio? Thru Sprint's network instead of wifi?
Can you make/receive calls? If so, data *should* just connect, assuming you're using relatively new stuff. A while ago you had to create an APN manually to connect, but that shouldn't be the case any more...

How do i access the force cdma. I use some sort of booting app that allows me to check or uncheck force cdma and to choose overclock speeds and update to newer versions. You don't want to know what I pay...
So I'm not sure how to explain this. Your startup.txt is a file you edit - where you run haret.exe from?
It sounds like you installed the cab, which unfortunately means you probably know nothing about how the system is put together, even at a high-level. Which is a shame...
With that said, assuming you're running v1.3 of the startup app, it should work fine. I cannot, and will not support that app. If you need support for that app, please go to sov's thread on the application.
If you want help on XDAndroid, then we can help... but we encourage you to search, read, research, search again, read some more, do a little more research, and then you may be ready to post. Maybe.

Could try reflashing the kernel and wiping cache and dalvik cache in recovery.
You tried switching your router off and on again?
note that some kernels need to have data and/or system mounted first in recovery before flashing the kernel otherwise wifi breaks. Just a thought.
also, you did sanity check your network by conforming that other devices still connect fine?

yeah the network is fine. I have another EVO that i use for wifi purposes, but the usb port broken. I have been charging my battery on one phone and using wifi on the other. It was fine while it lasted but now its a bit old. I want to flash one of these phones to pageplus and i prefer the one that the wifi works on.
Ok...let me search my memory banks to see if I can help. I have had this problem about 2 or 3 times, and I searched DILIGENTLY for an answer. After countless, and I mean countless pages, I found a solution. (Not saying you didn't search right...but it took me a while, and I had to change the words of my search about 20 times.)
You need a file explorer with root access. There are many good ones, and I use ES File Explorer. Not saying it's the best, not saying it's the worst, not saying anything except that it's the one I use. Period.
Anyway, you must access the root of your phone, and go to these folders.
System-->Etc-->Wifi.
In the Wifi folder, either rename the supplicant file to be safe, or delete it. I renamed mine the first time around to be safe, but I can confirm that deleting doesn't hurt anything. Restart your phone, and it will rebuild the file when the phone reboots. No need to wipe cached or anything. And fixing permissions doesn't work for this.
Try it, and let me know.
P.S.: I would give credit to the person who originally posted this solution, but I don't remember, since the answer was not on XDA, and I found it in a forum for a random Samsung phone.

Do a Full Wipe of everything. Then Flash a Stock Rooted Rom. See if that corrects the issue. You may also want to check out THIS thread. Also the one HERE.
Hmmmm...I tried my best. I hope you find a solution soon.
But the way, does it simply say error, or does it behave strange, like turn off and on for a while, then give you the error message?

Since nothing else has seemed to work you could try this..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1982149 ..you have to be running an ics or jb rom for the app to work though. Just throwing it out there.

I'm so close to downgrading....

Having upgraded to 4.2.x now for about a month I have nothing but fustrations about the upgrade. I've had probably 5-6 random reboots where as on 4.1.x I had none. The phone has had problems connecting to data where the only remedy was to reboot. I've also had problems connecting with GPS AND bluetooth where only a reboot would fix things. The OS studders much more than before and (it could be my imagination) it seems some apps run slower than before. With that said if I have to reboot one more time this week I will be downgrading.
BTW I'm stock with bootloader unlocked on yakju.
Like everyone else you should try a fresh install of the factory image wiping everything without restoring any data. It shouldn't matter if you are going to downgrade anyway.
We are many who have had no issues at all, so give it a shot.
Lots of threads already on these issues.
Just downgrade now and save us having to listen to more whining...
If you updated from 4.1 to 4.2 without a full wipe there's potential for a lot to go wrong. There could be some app running as a service that isn't fully compatible with 4.2 causing your issues.
With that being said, I would try fully resetting the device, no need to re-flash the stock image because it's already in place on the device anyway.
Install apps that are known to work on 4.2 ONLY. Then, you can begin testing to see if it becomes stable. After that, do what you want.

if you're on the VZW Galaxy Nexus, then i strongly recommend getting the mmuzzy rom. i think it's made specifically for that carrier/model only. it's been great for me so far. so smooth, no issues thus far!
i don't know how much experience you have with swapping roms, but you should use the Super Wipe utility that mmuzzy recommends.
