Best kernel for a ASOP GB rom ? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What is the best kernel for the ASOP GB roms? I am looking to get the best battery life. Also links please.

I obviously prefer Tiamat but there are others too. try to find some undervolting, make sure the kernel has HAVS and viperboy has some scripts that will undervolt even more if you can maintain stability to keep your battery life going. choose the "smartass governor" with an app called setcpu

my favorite is incredikernel and try undervolting like morph3k said

Tiamat 4.0 is broken for camera. I liked Savaged-zen before the release of android 2.3.4

Tiamat 4.0.1 is released and the camera is working.

i have been using Tiamat 3.3.8 on Cm7 stable runs smooth and gives me great battery life

I couldn't post a direct download because my post count is low ( I do more reading than posting ) just go to downloads at the bottom of the page choose Tiamat Inc and scroll down to the kernel you want I would stick with the last 3 series because there are still complaints about the 4.0 kernel

The one that has been coming with new CM nightly's has been working great. I used to use Chad's latest incredikernel 2.6.37.6 (Sorry can't post link still a young Jedi). But CM's kernel has been smooth for me on nightly 68 and 69.

[Q] Best kernel to use to use with vaelpak 3.0 remastered?

I recently as in today flashed vael's 3.0 remastered rom and was curios to know what kernels guys have been using with this rom. I know vael packaged with SBC For Netarchy 4.1.9.1 CFS No-HAVS kernel for unmatched battery life. any help would be appreciated.
I have been using netarchy's 4.3 cfs no havs, no uv, and no sbc. I think you should definitely flash something without sbc. If you don't have VP settings, grab it from the market and it can get you headed in the right direction.
vp settings
Vaelpak included the settings in his latest version of the rom i think he called it VP 3.0 remastered. And in the settings is a screen in which there are a bunch of different kernels to flash. I know some people have had trouble with the SBC but not all. So my question is why should everyone stay away from the SBC?

Which kernel to use on stock rom?

Hi, I`m trying to find out which is the best kernel to overclock my stock htc evo sense. I still want the camera & everything else to woek. I was looking at using x99kernel-sense-20110411.zip or netarchy-toastmod, Stable: 4.3.1 Beta: 4.3.4 but I dont know which netarchy on to choose & which one is better out of these 2? or this one netarchy-toastmod-4.3.4-cfs-havs-less-nosbc-universal-signed.zip. Or is there a better kernel. thanx
Start with Netarchy 4.3.2-noHAVS-noSBC-noUV. Everything works with this kernel, however, overclock incrementally to test stability. I'm not a fan of overclocking the EVO. I look for a kernel that gives me the best speed & stability as-is.

[Q] what are the lightest, smoothest yet good looking ROMS out there?

I was just wondering what are the lightest (as in space), smoothest yet good looking roms out there.
Personally, can't go wrong with CM7. Xplod by Team Nocturnal, also AOSP, is a great rom. If you want small [as in space] then you will want AOSP, as sense roms are always bigger.
Yeah aosp for sure, salvagemod,cm like Roxx said etc. These are all pretty light rom's.

I personally love aosp aswell but everytime i flash one, my wimax doesnt go as fast as with sense roms... If it wasnt for that, id most def. Be on cm7
nExVsO
Try Deck and then flash the Savage Zen BFS HAVS kernel. The Rom is based on CM7 but with all the bling that CM ads removed. The savage zen kernel gave me disgustingly good battery life. The whole Rom as is, is under 80mb. Can't get much lighter than that. sz kernel should resolve your wimax speed issue too. I notice that 4G always seemed slower on CM's kernel (which is what most of the AOSP roms use, including Miui). SZ's kernel fixed a lot of little things like that.
O cool thnx man, does sz kernel support hdmi also?
You've got great information above. AOSP is always smaller, lighter. I'm using kushdeck's gingerbread-evo-deck 1.3d (GB v2.3.5), which is built on a solid Cyanogenmod base. It's technically still a beta of GB v2.3.5, but I have as yet to have any issue with it. Plus, if like me you like the stock Vicual Voice Mail, use the ed-gapps with vm. Note that CM did this first and has this available also.
Both the SZ and Tiamat kernels support HDMwIn, have sbc versions available, etc. I find that the latest Tiamat 4.0.8 kernel works the best for me overall but of course your phone may feel otherwise.
Oh, a nice trick if you have issues with Wifi, Wimax or GPS after flashing an AOSP ROM. Once your ROM is built, make a nand backup of it. Now, flash one of the rooted stock ROMs (I use virus's 453.651.1). Once its flashed and you boot up, immediately reboot into recovery and restore your backup of your favorite AOSP ROM. This works because some drivers (like the GPS driver) are or can be changed/updated during a flash, but are not during a restore.
This has fixed non-functioning & poorly functioning GPS for many (including me), fixed wifi issues for some, and a few say that it improved their wimax speeds. If you're experiencing any of those issues, it only costs a few minutes of your time to find out, but of course that's your decision.
Anyway, I hope that the info is useful. Thank you for your time.

[Q] Which Incredikernel version?

I'm currently running CM7.2 and I was a bit confused by the Incredikernel thread here:
[KERNEL] Incredikernel (Chad+Tiny) - 03/21/2012 - GB+ICS (non-HWA)
It says that the GB+ICS kernels don't have HWA. Does that mean that the older GB-only kernels do have hardware acceleration? In that case would it be better to stick with the Incredikernel from 11/27/2011?
Hardware Acceleration only applies to ICS, none of the Incredikernels have HWA. That is mentioned because HWA is an important feature of ICS for things like Google Chrome beta. Your experience with Incredikernel will not be impacted on GB, the same cannot be said if you were using an ICS rom.

[Q] Supersonic ICS ROMS?

noob question sorry....
What is the best (stable, fast, smooth) ICS rom for the EVO?
Try out the AOKP Milestone 4 rom. SUPER stable!
Miui 2.4.6
Totally a solid daily driver
Gummy worms by pspplayground is a bit stable

The latest aokp I think build 27 or 28 right on top of the milestone 4 the latest working link its stable and most everything works. I just don't remember the build number cuz I just went to build 30 with android 4.0.4 on my et4g and it has EVERYTHING working except 4g and no lag or FC and I can live wwithout 4g cuz I don't have it anyways

AOKP is a great rom!
It is a great daily driver as is, but what the killer for me was that some apps don't run properly. I could live without a few but Temple Run and Instagram were two that didn't work for me with this rom. That was a deal breaker for me.
If those apps don't interest you than this rom is great!
Good Luck!

yeah I have not ran into any problem apps....yet.... So far this is running great!! only problem is the camera it is not working is there a flashable fix or is there nothing that can be done besides get a new rom?
Yeah AOKP is nice and smooth, the camera preview isn't working as it should, but very stable overall. And if you want to get into kernels, I recommend checking you the mason .14 kernel. it's a Work In Progress but it has been very stable for me, and you gotta love sbc.

Mason G is for gb and non hardware accelerated roms. As of build 30 AOKP has full hardware acceleration
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
I agree with most on here that AOKP build 31 is pretty stable. I'm running .14 mason sbc fso hwa kernel as well, fairly smooth.
I do have a side question though. Has anyone tried the above settings with a specific governor and found it to work very well?
I have tried savagedzen, on demand, and lionheart........but I always seem to revert back to smartass V2. Still looking for that perfect tweaks on all levels but cant seem to find it. I also applied all COD tweaks.

Smartass V2 seems to be the best I have used. What are COD tweaks?

Build 31 fixes that. In addition, to AOKP being so 'great' it plays nice, but for a lot of users, myself included, it gave a lot of random reboots for no reason, so just be warned / watch your phone to see if you get reboots.

COD tweaks are the adjustments to OOM levels, systctl values suggested by rope.

I keep going back and forth between decks ics pb18 (most current) and aokp build 31
Decks seems to be very smooth, running tiamat sbc "lee" kernel. Problem with decks is it less feature-packed then aokp.
Aokp is also very smooth with a ton of great features, but even running mason sbc hwa fso kernel, its seems to be just a little bit slower than decks.
I'm going to try flashing the tiamat "lee" kernel on aokp b31 and see what response I get out of it.
If you are looking for features and stability: aokp, speed and stability: decks
UPDATE: flashed tiamat "LEE" kernel with aokp build 31 last night and although it works OK, there is some lag and some delay when opening apps, app drawer, etc. I will go back to Mason sbc hwa fso for this ROM. Tiamat seems best on decks pb18 which I also run.
I think speed will come with time on AOKP. Can someone expand on the COD tweaks (what they do, how to, goods and bads)

Thanks for the suggestion but it did not work I opened it up and it showed the controls at the bottom like normal but (not sure how to describe this) I could not see what the camera was seeing it just showed black. I took a picture and it showed down in the preview what should have been displayed on the screen.
Hope you guys can understand that
