[Q] Best Sense Rom?? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all! Ok So I am currently enjoying SkyRaider 4.0 with the Incredikernel 12/23. I am OC'd to 1.13ghz and am Quadrant Scoring 1350 avg. and AnTutu Benchmarking 1850 avg.(I avg 37MFLOPS in Linpack also). All that out of the way I have been looking at Warm Z TwoPointTwo and Warm TwoPointTwo and also Revo. I want to have a lot of the bells and whistles and be very feature rich. What Sense Rom/Kernel combo do you all suggest is the best? I am a moderate to heavy user depending but I typically get 4HR's awake time to a battery and batt life doesn'tanks bother me much. I would appreciate any insight you guys might have! (I couldnt find what I was looking for in the search)

Business or optimized z with ziggys 3/12 bfs wo havs kernel works best for me. Smooth stable and fast, battery good, and the z camera is way better.

I personally enjoyed Warm Z TwoPointTwo the most imo

UBER Z 10char

Skyraider 3.5.

I was running warm Z two point two, it's a great rom. But I could not get the battery life to last that long. But that could be just me, it's worth trying out.

I really like IncRom by lllboredlll. He did a great job with the theming and its very smooth.

Magnolia, but it's not on your list to vote.

optimized z with ziggys 4/13 or any of ziggys like donny said up^^ there is a good one too but optimized z is clean smooth fast and overall just a GREAT rom

I am a big fan of the Sky Raider ROMs, but my DInc reboots constantly when I am mid-call. It occurs about 5 - 7 minutes into the call. I have run multiple kernels, Chad's, Hey It Lou's and even 2 Kings, and I have never had this problem with any other ROM. I may have to go back to the GingerBread MIUI which is rock solid with the best battery life that I have experienced so far. The only problem with the GB roms is that there is no Sense on them yet. I like the Sense Mail widget better than anything out there, and since I use Exchange Server my choices are pretty limited. I can't post on the SkyRaider 4 forum yet, because I don't have enough posts (need 8 more and have to wait 5 minutes between posts).

Ok, I thought I had fixed the reboot problem by loading another Kernel, but I got to 18 minutes before it rebooted. I'll try a few more kernels to see if I can get this problem fixed.

If I can't get Sky Raider 4 working without the mid call reboot, I would like a Sense ROM that has the lighter Dialer (like Sky Raider's), the ability to change the apps in the Rosie bar and the Dialer in the middle, have a drop down editable power bar, etc... Any suggestions?

IncRom has the dialer in the middle, I think, and is a nice looking and smooth running rom that's worth a look.

warm z 2.2
Gotta go with Warm Z 2.2.
Very experienced dev and user base.
Try the nightlies.

Even though it's 2.1 / 3.0 mix, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Optimized Shift. However, I've been experiencing some not so fun stuff lately, like LOTS of FCs, and the Calendar takes FOREVER to load if it loads at all...
Anybody else?

incredibly re-engineered 2.4 or skyraider hands down. I have flashed 90% of the roms for the inc. and always come back to these two.

Uber kingdom is great! And sense 3.0 is amazing. So nice

+1 for Optimized Shift. I do not experience any FC's or calendar issues. (Careful restoring account settings from other ROMs - that has caused me lots of grief. Better to spend a few minutes manually re-adding accounts.)

I'm a big fan of SkyRaider 4...but I went over to Synergy last week. Couldn't resist the lure of Gingerbread and Sense 3.0 (though it's a 2.1 mix). So far I've been really impressed. Very stable, snappy, and great battery life for a Gingersense ROM.

[Q] Which ROM + Kernel Combo?

Hello everyone,
Complete noob here tried doing some searching and lots of reading but I could not quite answer my questions. I have an Evo running the just released root (plain default ROM?). I am looking to install a new ROM/Kernel and my primary focus are:
1. Stability
2. Battery Life
3. Performance
4. Features
There are a TON of ROM and Kernel releases and its more then a bit confusing. I've been concentrating on the CM6, Fresh, Evio and Backed Snack. I was planning on using CM6 (it seems highly respected and optimized for stability and speed) but I use 4G all the time and HDMI now and then.
At least at this stage in my research I had Fresh 3.2 as my second choice with Evio/Bakedsnack tied for third (again this is not a review and strictly based on just what I've been reading about these and my take away impression at this time). I don't mind playing around with these to find one that I like but I wasn't sure which Kernel I should use. Are there particular ROM + Kernel versions that are highly respected (keep in mind my priorities above)?
Anyway thank you all for your time and assistance
With your requirements I would recommend the stock 2.2 ROM with the netarchy toastmod kernal. You can get Titanium Backup and go to settings and enable "Chuck Norris" mode to delete some of the Sprint Bloatware you don't want. Just be careful not to delete anything that you don't know what it is (Google Talk is a good example since it controls your market downloads). If you insist on a custom ROM go for Baked Snack with the matching netarchy kernal. It's a nice Rom.
Haven't used too many stock ROMS lately, but you're looking for a good custom ROM Baked Snack is a great choice. I use Baked Kernel #5 and get great battery life and also no noticeable loss in speed.
I used CM6 for a while, but wasn't to happy with it. The EVO seems like it is just to complicated for them. No disrespect intended Team Cyanogen is amazing, but there are still a lot of kinks to work out in AOSP.
Hope I helped.
-Stew
Either fresh 3.2 or evio. I have used every Rom in here. Evio was my daily til Sprint apps were not updating. He is fixing that. But 3.2 fresh is the best Rom I have used to date hands down. I used kings #8 the with it. As for baked snack. He rocked eclair but not so on froyo. Just ran 1.7 pfft waste of 2 hours. Kernel is messed up and so is Sprint tv. He smokes too much medical marijuana when programming lol. Not against a little thc but it shows in his latest roms in my opinion. I have a hard enough time typing when I am that high lol

I'm new to flashing roms and... My first was a deodexed stock 2.2 from steelh.. With riptide theme.. Now I'm on fresh 3.2 and it nice very smooth and stable.. He is using a new kernel our something from htc it sprint.. I left phone idle/sleep and checked it every now and then.. Took 1 hour 50 mins to loose 1% battery..
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I think the next rom I'm going to flash is either going to be one of the xxxvirusxxx roms or the osx chihuaha.. Its as 50/50 sense/aosp rom..
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I have tried CM6, nectarchy's Burnt Dorid, and Virus new Carbon rom, but none have pleased me as much as netarchy's HTC OTA Froyo 2.2 final build.
This is by far my favorite rom, i have been testing a bunch to see what give's me the best result, so far with this rom and with netarchy's 4.1.9 cfs kernel my genius phone flies while being clocked at 1.19, i would not suggest higher then that as my phone freeze's after 1.19, i haven't found a kernel yet that is as perfectly matched to this rom as is 4.1.9. cfs
thanks netarchy, best setup IMO.

Ok so I ran Fresh 3.2 with stock kernel and was impressed how stable (short term heavy use) and easy to flash. I was finally able to flash CM6 but only after running the NAND unlock flash I found on one of these forums. Only thing was that my bench was lowest on fresh followed by the stock and then CM6 was highest. CM 6 is fast and has some cool features but overall it just didnt fit me. I'm going to try fresh and kings #8 next followed by the netarchy suggestion.
Thank you all for your help! I have to say the friendlyness of this community to a new noob is refreshing!
I've tried out many, many ROMs since I got mine and I like EViO the best. Using EViO 2 1.2 Beta 2 with King's #8 BFS kernel.
Going to give EVIO a try next.

[Q] Fastest Sense / Non-Sense Rom

I want to know what the absolute fastest rom is for the EVO...Sense or Non-Sense...don't care, and with everything working.
*Just to be clear......not asking what the best rom is. Not too sure I care about Quadrant scores either. Looking more at how it handles transitions, boot up, opening and closing apps, the whole enchilada.
If you leave a comment can you please also let me know what kernel you may have paired with it.
Thx.
cm6 or lithids GB builds for aosp, i like the cyanogen kernals and savage's too
mikfroyo 4.1 with netarchy's 4.2.2 for sense or ziggy's latest
u can overclock both roms for the speedfreak in ya
also use spare parts to speed up transitions

Sorry, just edited my post because I wanted to include that the rom should have everything working.
I know CM6 now has that but what about mikfroyo?
Just head over to the development forum and check it out. Mikfroyo has everything working, and without a doubt is the fastest sense rom out there. Several other developers are using Amikam's base rom in their own work.
Hands down MikFroYo v4.1
I've been flashing ROMs for two years now. I have to say out of the box without doing any mods, MikFroYo v4.1 is the fastest ROM I've every used. Everything works, as long as you wipe everything and start from scratch. It is a Sense based ROM. I used to flash CM ROMs just to have a faster running Hero. Now with MikFroYo v4.1 on a EVO there is no loss in speed. Have fun and good luck choosing. I'm running MikFroYo v4.1 with launch pro and it is a beautiful thing.

mikfroyo will not let u down, it all works, plus the dev is constantly tweaking it even more; he supports his work bigtime and answers every question fast
Anyone using the latest SBS kernel with this? How does it run? Is battery life good?
Batt life is good. On a easy day with not to much action you can get 18-20 hrs. On a heavy day maybe 10-12. But thats what home, computer, and car charges are for.
Im considering Mikfroyo 4.1 too, but i was wondering if anyone knows of or can post a video of it. How similar is the UI to the stock Evo UI?
thanks

Don't need a video. I just flashed 4.2 and there are very few changes to the stock UI. Looks basically the same with exception to a few additional installed apps, power notification drop down, maybe a style change on something. There are also some stock apps not included. But, is way faster than the stock one.
It is fast for a Sense rom but still can't believe an ASOP isn't the fastest available.
I've been getting around 2500 in quadrant and 39.5 consistently using CM 6.1.1 with netarchy's 7.6 SNAP BFS. I'm also running the iNexus 6.1.1 theme.

That's good but I'm not too interested in benchmarks. Even Cyanogen has said they are trivial and not accurate most the time.
What I am interested in is user experience. How is CM6 when doing transitions, opening apps, etc? Mikfroyo right now, even with the sense, is pretty darn smooth and fast.
Or, maybe even throw Vaelpak in there. It seemed pretty quick when using. Any other seriously fast roms out there?
Would really like to hear an opinion from someone who has used CM and maybe Mikfroyo. Even if you don't like Sense (i don't) it can be removed from any rom.
yea i used quad on my evo when it was stock and was getting 1250-1300 consistantly, and my phone was getting slow, jerky, and unresponsive. Rooted and put mikfroyo on and im amazed at how much more smoothly it runs. Funny thing is it benchmarks at or lower then it did before, yet in real world stuff its obviously faster.
6.1.1 has been very smooth and I can honestly say that after enabling snap turbo, it is far and away the fastest tom i've used.
Fresh 3.5.0.1 w/ toast 4.1.9.1 was faster than mikfroyo 4.2 for me... CM 611 W/ Snap Turbo blows them both out of the water. Also, if benchmarks don't mean anything, nobody would develop them. If I was scoring an 8 on quad w a samsung, i would attempt to convince myself of that, but in reality, i'd just exchange it for an htc.
Nonetheless, for the rest of the weirdos who do use benchmarks to assist w choosing a rom or kernel, you may find the following beneficial: http://home.comcast.net/~ttechnology/compiled.html

Comparable since i use cpu tuner as well and config'd it to max @ 400ish on screen off.

Tried most all of those, absolutely love Warm 2.2
I love a few different roms, but I continue to either run CM7+WiMax, or CM6 + Wimax. Depends on if I am in a froyo or GB mood.
I tried using CM7 cause I wanted the the Ginger Slut experience but it didn't do anything for me. Couldn't get 3G to work, 4G didn't work, was able to change the skin once and then couldn't find out how to again afterward, it just didn't work for me.
SAC's HD port is pretty sharp too but when I tried it wasn't quite stable enough for me to use it as a daily, its probably much better by now though.
For now I'm sticking with my own version of stock ROM.

Same, im using Netarchy's 4.3.2 cfs, more-havs kernel and I get 7-9 hours on very heavy use (50% is navigation and maps).
I like this rom over any rom i've used, I've used almost everything but miui, I want my phone to look like android os, not iOS.
i rocked myn's warm 2.2 for the longest time and still know that its a great ROM, (also used Caukulins Evio), but just recently got set up on the latest mikfroyo release with the blue theme and I'm loving it. also got my wife set up on it with the pink theme. we have a lot of great devs here in the evo community. everyone brings something to the table. thanks to you all!

I've tried a lot of ROMs. Ava, Myn, CM7, CM6, Sprint Lovers, MikFroyo. I just flashed MikFroyo and while it's still too early I'm enjoying what it offers.
I gave up trying to find the best battery life. I'm just swapping between 3 batteries and carrying around my charger. I dropped my Sero plan last July for this phone and I'm going to get my moneys worth damn it! lol
MikFroyo 4.4 for me. I get a bad feeling about 4.5, perhaps it was over tweaked, so I am waiting on 4.6. But I am not sure what the benefit would be since I haven't had any issues since going with 4.4

I've tried 4 different ROM's and Mikfroyo is by far my favorite with RLS5 coming in a very close 2nd.
MIUI is the way!
Well I just started using MIUI and I love it. I does not drain my Evo at all. Also I have CM6 but i prefer MIUI, but I hope to flash the newest update soon. MIUI 1.2.4. Its hella crisp and very customizable.
Check out the latest here bro!

I've had CM7, Myn's, and MikFroyo.
Myn's was good for some time.... but I needed somemthing more.
MikFroyo was fast.. It was good.
Cm7 drained battery quite a bit.
I got Miui recently and love it. It's like Cyanogenmod (based off of it) with improvements in battery and UI. I didn't like the UI at first but it really grew on me and I can't see myself switching back soon.
But the insane battery life and speed keep me on Miui's ROM. For example, I lost 1% overnight on wifi. That's how it should be. Looove it.

Is this goood?

This was mostly on 3g with myns warm 2.2 RLS 5.

With that much awake time I would say so. Myn's is a pretty good rom. Looks like you got a conservative kernel running. I'd show this to anyone that says EVO's eat batteries!!
I'm running stock kernel lol. Not sure why but my phone hates HAVS kernels and setcpu individually. So I use neither. I thought wifi would save me battery but my life here seems better than 6 hours.

that kernel and setcpu profiles really helped me out. SBC hasn't failed me yet, obviously cause my house hasn't burned down
Yeah but from looking at the graph Jacoballen, you also used your phone, hence the android percentage, a lot more. So that is pretty good with the time considering how much you used the android system.
Yeah, I was amazed. I don't use sbc kernels simply because I don't charge my phone at all. I don't know why my phone doesn't tolerate HAVS though..

I have read and researched hundreds of pages on this site and have flashed a dozen roms and have a few that I keep in backups, but the crazy thing is is that most of the time I leave the stock kernel in place with what was built into the Rom. But if you haven't seen this page before, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719763, this is pretty awesome to have for options.
There is a link in there that brings you to netarchy's kernals and there are loads of them in there. I hear a few of them in there are awesome but the crazy thing is is that for some reason a kernal that is awesome on my evo might not be that great on yours even if we'd be on the same hardware version.

i rooted my phone instead of returning it because i would get about 5-6 hours out of a charge. if that didnt work, i was gonna drop in the toilet and blame my kid. turns out my 003 hardware or something internal actually hates htc kernals, but loves NA anything. before the sbc, i would run myn rls4 with more agg cfs and get 2.5 days out of it. since all roms seem to be coming with htc#15 now, i basically yank it right away.
i also use setcpu a lot for profiles, if not, i run calk 1.8 with battery scripts which seems to work. speaking of which, if anyone can assist in finding and editing them, it would be much appreciated
Hmm interesting, I might try that. I'm on 003 hardware also. Your aren't using an extended battery?

Hey guys what's up...ok so I finally got my evo rooted and I was able to try out a couple of ROMs....I tried so far cyanogenmod 7 and nyms warm twopointtwo rls5 but I noticed that my data would cut out and not switch over from 3g to wi fi and in cyanogenmod 7 force close errors left to right...what is the best kernel Rom combination that will provide the most features performance and stability? Now using stock rooted Rom...on a happy note I was able to put the Android peeing on Apple bootloader love it lol....let me know guys thanks

Personally.. I'm leaning towards Sense based roms more and more. They just have alot of the features I'm after and now that most are implementing other aspects of AOSP roms I'm finding more and more it's the way to go (ie. miui player, android mail vs htc etc, themed gallery etc.) I can make 2 recommendations right off the bat.
1. Koni Elite Series III - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=941055
2. King Cocoa True Blue - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995410
I've played with so many roms I've lost count but I think with either one of those you'll find everything you are looking for. And I find that most themes will flash over them as well (Slayers cyan dragons and skulls theme is pretty sweet on koni's)
Every phone is different and not one seems to be the same as the next so as to recommend a kernel that is gonna take some testing on your part. I've given up on trying different ones as most cause nothing but boot loops and crashes. HTC #15 stock kernel plays the best for me. As for roms.. Keep on flashing.. It becomes addictive but you'll find what you like eventually. The work these cats have put into these roms are worthy of many a dollar so be sure to thank them for their work! Good luck , have fun!
thank you for the reply I really appreciate it...yes it is very true...rooting these guys is like taking away their chastity belts lmao....totally opens up the possibilities...i am super new to this don't even know what the good apps are and good folks on here helped me root my phone...definitely going with sence gonna check out those time in a bit

If you want a stable, fast and battery-efficient Sense ROM that cuts out a lot of the Sprint/htc cruft and still looks nice, check out Eternal Prophecy.
It has the best battery life of any ROM I've used and matches speeds with many of the best AOSP ROMs.
SWYPED from my Evo with Eternal Prophecy 5.8 ROM. Yeah I said Swyped.
ilove MiK and Myn
both are the best for me.
it really boils down to personal preference. there's no one true answer as to what is the best combination as it differs from person to person.
i'm enjoying CM7 with the Tiamat kernal. some people like SZ, some people like others..
yea, it's up to you.. try out a bunch and see what you like.

king Cocoa II
do your self a favor and flash King Cocoa II, awesome rom by Jamie and Jeff for his themes, jamie is an amazing developer of roms, I wish i HAD the time to make roms but having a company takes my time
By FAR for me:
The Ultimate Droid Rom with Savage Zen kernel.
(Fully acknowledged) CM based Rom....faster and flashier than any aosp roms I've tried since June 2010! Amazing

I have been using these for over a week and have no complaints
netarchy-toastmod-bfs-nohavs-nosbc-universal
MikFroYo v4.61
If you are gonna try gingerbread, give salvagemod a shot. Been using it for almost a month now and ended my flashing addiction
I've been running eternal prophecy 5.8 and have had the best battery life, and response time with that rom.
Flashing addiction lmao

Went your route my friend Thanks for the input
CM7 + Tiamat kernel = 1day 9hrs battery life.
Fast, stable, good battery life, smooth....a perfect winner.
you should try Azreal x4.0 it is really fast and everything works
MIUI is very unique, runs on Gingerbread power. Warning - no 4G (yet).
Kernel is Tiamat 3.3.8 with SBC. I suggest that you use Kernel Manager, works pretty well.
Oh, and if you're a flashaholic, be sure to condition your battery. Charge to 100%, go into recovery and wipe battery stats, reboot phone, when it boots to the desktop unplug the phone and don't plug it up until the battery is fully dead. Then charge it to 100% again. Boom. Better batter.
