Swyped from my sexy EVO.

With that much awake time I would say so. Myn's is a pretty good rom. Looks like you got a conservative kernel running. I'd show this to anyone that says EVO's eat batteries!!

I'm running stock kernel lol. Not sure why but my phone hates HAVS kernels and setcpu individually. So I use neither. I thought wifi would save me battery but my life here seems better than 6 hours.

Stock battery and phone calls. Angry birds took about 35% of the battery too. Na cfs
no havs sbc

I probably need that kernal..and difference was wifi for you, 3g for me.
Swyped from my sexy EVO.

that kernel and setcpu profiles really helped me out. SBC hasn't failed me yet, obviously cause my house hasn't burned down

Yeah but from looking at the graph Jacoballen, you also used your phone, hence the android percentage, a lot more. So that is pretty good with the time considering how much you used the android system.

Yeah, I was amazed. I don't use sbc kernels simply because I don't charge my phone at all. I don't know why my phone doesn't tolerate HAVS though..
Swyped from my sexy EVO.

I have read and researched hundreds of pages on this site and have flashed a dozen roms and have a few that I keep in backups, but the crazy thing is is that most of the time I leave the stock kernel in place with what was built into the Rom. But if you haven't seen this page before, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719763, this is pretty awesome to have for options.

There is a link in there that brings you to netarchy's kernals and there are loads of them in there. I hear a few of them in there are awesome but the crazy thing is is that for some reason a kernal that is awesome on my evo might not be that great on yours even if we'd be on the same hardware version.

Yup, couldn't post that because I don't have enough posts with this account. I was using a different account before to post but want to get this one setup as this is my own. Thank you for putting it out there for whoever reads this thread.

Yup, I hear you. You just need one more post and I need 3 more to be able to speak with the rest of the people on other threads. Crazy.

Haha, my phone our decent right now but if I had the time I would check to see which 4.3.1 kernal works for me.

i rooted my phone instead of returning it because i would get about 5-6 hours out of a charge. if that didnt work, i was gonna drop in the toilet and blame my kid. turns out my 003 hardware or something internal actually hates htc kernals, but loves NA anything. before the sbc, i would run myn rls4 with more agg cfs and get 2.5 days out of it. since all roms seem to be coming with htc#15 now, i basically yank it right away.
i also use setcpu a lot for profiles, if not, i run calk 1.8 with battery scripts which seems to work. speaking of which, if anyone can assist in finding and editing them, it would be much appreciated

Hmm interesting, I might try that. I'm on 003 hardware also. Your aren't using an extended battery?

Looking for the best Rom and kernel combination for my EVO 4G?

Hey guys what's up...ok so I finally got my evo rooted and I was able to try out a couple of ROMs....I tried so far cyanogenmod 7 and nyms warm twopointtwo rls5 but I noticed that my data would cut out and not switch over from 3g to wi fi and in cyanogenmod 7 force close errors left to right...what is the best kernel Rom combination that will provide the most features performance and stability? Now using stock rooted Rom...on a happy note I was able to put the Android peeing on Apple bootloader love it lol....let me know guys thanks

Personally.. I'm leaning towards Sense based roms more and more. They just have alot of the features I'm after and now that most are implementing other aspects of AOSP roms I'm finding more and more it's the way to go (ie. miui player, android mail vs htc etc, themed gallery etc.) I can make 2 recommendations right off the bat.
1. Koni Elite Series III - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=941055
2. King Cocoa True Blue - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995410
I've played with so many roms I've lost count but I think with either one of those you'll find everything you are looking for. And I find that most themes will flash over them as well (Slayers cyan dragons and skulls theme is pretty sweet on koni's)
Every phone is different and not one seems to be the same as the next so as to recommend a kernel that is gonna take some testing on your part. I've given up on trying different ones as most cause nothing but boot loops and crashes. HTC #15 stock kernel plays the best for me. As for roms.. Keep on flashing.. It becomes addictive but you'll find what you like eventually. The work these cats have put into these roms are worthy of many a dollar so be sure to thank them for their work! Good luck , have fun!
thank you for the reply I really appreciate it...yes it is very true...rooting these guys is like taking away their chastity belts lmao....totally opens up the possibilities...i am super new to this don't even know what the good apps are and good folks on here helped me root my phone...definitely going with sence gonna check out those time in a bit

If you want a stable, fast and battery-efficient Sense ROM that cuts out a lot of the Sprint/htc cruft and still looks nice, check out Eternal Prophecy.
It has the best battery life of any ROM I've used and matches speeds with many of the best AOSP ROMs.
SWYPED from my Evo with Eternal Prophecy 5.8 ROM. Yeah I said Swyped.
ilove MiK and Myn
both are the best for me.
it really boils down to personal preference. there's no one true answer as to what is the best combination as it differs from person to person.
i'm enjoying CM7 with the Tiamat kernal. some people like SZ, some people like others..
yea, it's up to you.. try out a bunch and see what you like.

king Cocoa II
do your self a favor and flash King Cocoa II, awesome rom by Jamie and Jeff for his themes, jamie is an amazing developer of roms, I wish i HAD the time to make roms but having a company takes my time
By FAR for me:
The Ultimate Droid Rom with Savage Zen kernel.

Went your route my friend Thanks for the input
CM7 + Tiamat kernel = 1day 9hrs battery life.
Fast, stable, good battery life, smooth....a perfect winner.
you should try Azreal x4.0 it is really fast and everything works
MIUI is very unique, runs on Gingerbread power. Warning - no 4G (yet).
Kernel is Tiamat 3.3.8 with SBC. I suggest that you use Kernel Manager, works pretty well.
Oh, and if you're a flashaholic, be sure to condition your battery. Charge to 100%, go into recovery and wipe battery stats, reboot phone, when it boots to the desktop unplug the phone and don't plug it up until the battery is fully dead. Then charge it to 100% again. Boom. Better batter.

[Q] Who likes SBC kernels?

Who likes SBC kernels and who feels there not healthy on your battery and phone?
Gonna do a poll and see who likes and doesn't.
I never used them worried it cook my battery or phone... lol that's just me
Well I have been using sbc for a while now... And my battery gets just as hot as it used to before.
Gangsters arent afraid of hot batteries
Here's my 2 cents about SBC kernals if anyone cares...hahaha
I've been using SBC kernals for a while now and the trick is to be smart about it! If you use one, don't set your CPU governor on performance and set your MIN/MAX to the very MAX because you'll be one of those people we all read about...hahaha....I set my governor on smartass and set my min at 128 and my max at 921, everything run smooth and I could use any app without any problems! Over clocking just to do it is like bragging about benchmarks....is just stupid!
...or better yet, just don't use SetCPU......

There's probably about 2 people who reported sbc messing up their batteries :rolls eyes: . I've been running sbc for months with no issues whatsoever.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I used to be scared of it, but decided to give Tiamat SBC a try about a month ago. Everything has been great. I'm now a believer!
I've been using SBC kernels since the release and havent had any problems what so ever!
I've been using it for months and it works great. I use the battery monitor widget to confirm that is working great. If you actually read the threads about it, you will find there there isn't actually any danger to using it and it was all a bunch of hype about nothing.
I'm indifferent about it, I hear the pros/cons from both sides and really don't care either way. While I have used both SBC and non-SBC kernels, my personal preference is non-SBC. That said, I also only run on the stock battery and have plenty of places to charge my phone both at home, work, and on the road.
If a kernel only has SBC and I like that kernel, I'll use it. If a kernel doesn't offer it and I still like that kernel, then I'll use that kernel. SBC isn't a make or break feature for me.
The choice is yours, use whatever you like. Try them both, it's easy to do.
I used it before it was cool and safe, y'all be posers
Been running SBC kernels since the moment they popped up . Seidio 3500 battery has kept up and hasnt lost charge capacity at all since then either . I swear by them and refuse to go back to a regular charging kernel

Great! Thanks!
I'm trying to amass a small collection of Sense kernels so I can try them out on my recently rooted AMOLED DInc. So far I've tried HeyItsLou #9, Incredikernel, and Ziggy471. Next up will be KiNgxKernels #5 and 6, followed by Order 3. I'm still trying to track down a Hydrakernel but am having no luck.
I'm posting my impressions on a thread I started over in the Droid Incredible General area. People keep trying to convince me to try ROMs too, but I've not liked CM7 or SkyRaider 4. I like this stock Sense ROM I've gutted the bloat out of. Now I'm just trying to tweak battery life through custom kernels.
I'm also sort of trying to figure out which radios do what and how they impact battery life -- no easy task, let me tell you. I guess I just need to try harder.
Thanks again!
p.s. FWIW I'm sticking with Incredikernel 2.6.32.27 for now

I have 2 of them I uploaded to Dropbox

Yea, I'm not a big fan of the CM7. I liked the stock ROM and like you did, removed everything out I did not know or used. I tried a lot of ROM and now I am liking the WarmZ 2.2 nightly 04/23. I have pretty much stripped that ROM down to nothing after I installed it by removing apps and widgets. When flashing the nightlies it became tedious going through adb and removing each file, so I created a bash script that when ran, deleted all the unnecessary apps and skins. So far this ROM is awesome and looks good.
As far as kernels, Lou's #8 that came inside the ROM is good on battery for me. I can go 16 hours and some with lots of texting and facebooking. I have tried ziggy's and chad's incredikernal, both had good battery life, but each had their downfalls, whether it be laggy when scrolling or just random restarts. Lou's #8 seems smooth all around with this ROM
Radios, well I am hooked on the 2.15.00.11.19 It seems to hold out and gives me less call drops and faster download speeds. I tried the new GB leaked radio 2.15.10.05.06 and had about the same download speeds, but experienced more call drops.
I think at this point once you find a ROM you like, its more of experimenting with different kernels and radios until you find the best combination that suits you. That's what I did
And thank you to you two as well.
I'm new to this but trying hard to figure out what's going on. I have a pretty good grasp of what goes on with kernels and ROMS, now I just want to see what's up with radios.
I'm enjoying swapping out kernels because I can change the performance of my Incredible without having to reconfigure everything. I never did try HeyItsLou #8, so I guess it's worth a shot even though #9 wasn't very good for me.
Later
Thanks again for the hydra kernels. I'm trying one out now, the one that's named ocuv_v10. How is the other one (ocuv_ov_v10) different? Does it use HAVS or something?
Thanks

Best Recommended ROM for a freshly rooted EVO 4G

A family member just purchased an Evo 4G with Sprint and promptly brought it to me to see if I knew how to root it, since I've such great success with my HTC Inspire 4G on AT&T. I rooted successfully using AutoRoot v2.5 and the device has SU rights and I've got SetCPU installed, (Max 998mhz, set on demand, 245mhz at idle), and the only add-on I installed was Beautiful Widgets Small Home for weather, which updates once an hour, and the Beautiful Widgets 4-day forecast. The phone is working fine, she called earlier and said it performs all functions and she loves how it navigates, but its KILLING the battery... she's indicating that it's dropped from 100% (overnight charge) to 89% in just 10 minutes of only texting. An hour later the phone is already at 64%. I installed the myn-WarmTwoPointTwo-01-07-2011-RLS5 ROM.
What general recommendations can the community make for a solid ROM that's known to be easy on the battery? She works 12 hour shifts and it needs to be able to survive without recharging, or what modifications I should make to the current ROM?
Last night was the first time I was able to ever play with an EVO, and it's pretty much the same as my Inspire, but it was KILLING me that the power and volume keys are on opposite sides....
Thanks in advance, all.
Change the kernel I would try one of natarchy's maybe 4.3.2 or 4.3.4 sbc cfs havs more.
The sbc on the kernel will let it change to a 100% the stock evo kernel will only go to like 98 maybe 100% but if left on the charger it will stop charging and start to drain but will still say 100% thats why you get that fast drop.

Yeah, I honestly have NO idea what kernel it's running at the moment, as she's not here yet. So do you think the ROM I'm using is good, but the kernel needs updated? Or would it be better to go with a whole new ROM/Kernel combo?
@jadden - I was having a hard time understanding some of your acronyms, as I'm still fairly new in this arena. Would you be so kind as to include links?
Thank you guys SO much for the quick responses!!
rom is great. Evolution battery is crap unless you wanna use a hero on evo.. tell her to buy extra batteries with external charger. There you go. I last all day.. just have to carry a battery around(purse)
Gimme a couple a days to come up with a new sig that is cool.

download that put on the evo sd card dont extract it just drag it as a zip on the sd card and go to recovery and go to wipe cache then install zip from sd choose that zip then when its done installing reboot and now you have a custom kernel.
I would flash calkulin evio3 rom, and then flash the new htc kernal that's from the new sprint ota, this combo gives me great battery life and calks roms are awesome.

Give Deck's a try. It is basically CM7 but optimized for the Evo. I hear the battery life is great with SZ kernel, but I have also heard it currently kills read/write speeds to the sd card.
I personally run Deck's with without flashing another kernel. Battery life is superb.

I agree with this idea. I tried Decks with SZ kernel as well and got awesome battery life. I have since switched back to CM7 for other reasons (still with SZ 2.2 kernel) and still get great battery life. I would recommend one of those combos 100%. [Q] Anyone working on GingerSense SBC Kernel?

I know that one doesn't currently exist, but does anybody know if anyone's actually working on one? Given the age of the EVO 4G, I worry that developers no longer care enough to actually work on this, but it's something I desperately want. I haven't seen anybody talking about it in a while.
If nobody's working on one, I may start looking into how hard it'd be to develop my own (I have some comp-sci background, but being that it's limited, I know it'd be easier for someone else), or offer an incentive to some developers...
And before you say "AOSP!" I say "I love MikG!" I get fantastic battery life as it is, but it would be better if the battery was completely charged when I pull it off the charger. I'll switch to AOSP when ICS is stable on the EVO 4G (because we all know HTC is never going to push an ICS update for the EVO 4G, as sad as it is to say that).
MikG 2.60 w/Freedom kernel (less aggressive) and stock capacity battery:

(In a regular work day, I'll have 68% remaining after 10 hours, but that's because I have crappy reception in my office.)
Wouldn't get your hopes up man. SBC is really the main thing I wanted out of the GB sense kernel (along with HAVS and such) but none of the developers are really updating the kernels anymore. Lithid has done an amazing job with his Freedom kernel but he went to the iPhone I think and dropped development before implementing SBC.
I already get terrible battery life on Sense roms (due to a random bug causing extremely high display usage all the time that kills the battery, very frustrating) but maybe SBC will give me a few more hours enough to use it as a daily. Until them, I'm stuck using CM7 which I wasn't a big fan of before but after having to use it so long I have found ways to make it exactly how I want, along with giving me great battery life.
With ICS coming out, I doubt there'll be much more dev work on GB kernels

HTC made the kernel not play nice with SBC the one SBC kernel that was out had lots of issues and was pulled. There was a code conflict in the core of the kernel source causing all kinds of failures with hardware, they went away after flashing a new kernel, but touch screen was whacked out audio bugged and there were lots of FC as the SBC code basically broke the kernel's functionality, so blame HTC not the devs it was like HTC intentionally built the kernel to block SBC. There are kernels out with AVS and I think one with HAVS but I'm not 100% sure on the HAVS since I've been working on AOSP the last few weeks and have taken a break from sense.

Many valid points... thanks everyone for responding. I didn't realize that there were issues with HTC's kernel as it was (last I had heard, the newest GB kernel from HTC had a form of SBC built in, and after HTC released the code, it seemed as though nobody was working on the kernels anymore). I'll have to contemplate thoroughly on what to do... if the developers have looked into it, I doubt I'd be able to make progress where they were unable to do so.
ncfastls1, have you tried MikG at all? I know hardware varies, but it is without question the best performing Sense ROM I've had, in smoothness, functionality (Sense 2.1 + 3.0), and battery life. Using Freedom's more aggressively undervolting kernel gave me camera issues (phone would freeze and reboot), but as you can see from the pic in my first post, I've gotten some incredible battery life from MikG with the less aggressive kernel. I can also provide spreadsheets with my battery life every day that I've had it (I'm a statistician by profession, so I test everything I can collect data on just to make sure I'm getting the best performance from my phone). [Note: When I updated to 2.61, I simultaneously updated a bunch of apps, and my battery life fell off the Grand Canyon, so I restored to 2.60 and am trying to isolate the source of the drain by progressively updating apps before updating to 2.61.] CM7 is great - I have it on my Nook and am anxious to see CM9 - but I do have an affinity for Sense.
Thanks again, everyone!
P.S. I was also heartbroken to see that lithid went over to crApple. He had tried throwing together an SBC kernel (it's buried deep in his kernel thread), but since I didn't see a single person report about its functionality, I was reluctant to try it...
Lithid was working on it for a very long time. He has since gone to the iOS. Wish he wouldnt released his v 0.95 kernel though before he did.
I get 2+ days (max so far 3.5 days) with normal use and Tommy's classic paired with aggressive freedom.

Can you give more details on that, please? And, if possible, links to both.
Thanks
