[Q] Skype video? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I saw that there is an unofficial Skype with video calls floating around for the Thunderbolt:
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/04/11/download-skype-with-video-on-android/
I know there is Fring and Qik, etc., but I need to be able to make calls to Skype. I'm not too familiar with the API for cameras in 2.2, but is it difficult (or worth it) to get this to work for the DInc2? Or is the device specificity hard-coded and compiled in the apk and better to wait until the official release?

Android 2.2 doesn't have FFC APIs iirc, HTC had to add them in.

Moved to general as not android development

i tried the thunderbolt apk with no luck, must need 4g

Oh I see. I'm guessing this is also why apps like ooVoo cannot support all devices with FFC's at the moment and probably why Skype with video is being delayed for so long?
Does that then mean that developers for apps like Qik just make sure to keep up with all the custom FFC APIs as new devices come out?

Skype for Android

Because the Samsung Firmware is crap (my opinion), Skype do not recommend installing Skype 1.0 on SGS i9000, 2.1 device.

You can't even login using SGS. it's pretty bull****.
It says on the download page they are aware of issues with the SGS.give it time.

At least they released something. It´s just a matter of time that it will run on our SGS. I hope
The problem is solved with Froyo.
Skype can't fix it for Eclair...
I can not write more about this problem, because I am under NDA.
This is crazy, the Galaxy S is probably the biggest selling Android phone and it doesn't work. Knowing Skype it will take them another year to release any updates or even fix it.
Skype broken on Galaxy S it seems!
This morning I was greeted with the most awesome news that Skype for Android is finally available, only to be completely shot down to find that Galaxy S owners cannot log in.
Any ideas why this problem is plaguing only the SGS!? I hope there's an easy fix!
So after intentionally holding off a release for Android because of their deal with US carriers, and preventing us from making Skype video calls on our phones by blocking Fring, they finally release a crappy buggy version for us? How nice of them
This app can't do video calls either from what I can see.
Hopefully the new CEO is going to improve things and get Skype out of this hole they've dug themselves into. For now I'd rather use another app like Nimbuzz for VOIP.
Skype is a flop, their app can't even do video calls. Use Nimbuzz or something.
Skype is working hard to bring you a nice Skype App for Android.
I see it every day.
The bug is caused by Samsung modifications, this bug does not exists on other devices. (Can't tell you more, because NDA)

Wau, this sucks donkey balls. Epic fail, why they cant just use the god damn stock android is just amazing. No no, lets screw tjings over with crappy ui's and useless software so nothing works.. unbelievable!

Has anyone got the Skype .apk file that we can download ? Unable to download app for my FroYo SGS.
Thanks
it says in the description that it doesn't currently work with SGS. give them a few days, it'll be fixed.
someone posted a comment on skype saying it works on Froyo Galaxy S. there may be hope.....
signing in fine for me with XXJPK

[Q] Call recording

Trying many call recording apps to evaluate if there are anything perfectly working on call recording, particularly incoming voice. as a result, as you may see in the market's comments and some threads on other device at XDA, there seems a bug in Android.
FWIW I can see some efforts on other devices like SGS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=863074, to get this feature working on their device. I'm just wondering if anyone is working on it for arc.
does anyone know about it or is this feature simply working for you?
I don't want to take a way of recording from the mic to get it working, even if it's the only way to go so far.
Hello, like i know, the reason why no one call recorder not record calls from line is the drivers. First of all we shoud wait for the custom firmware, then somebody should write drivers for our phones and integrate them to the firmware, and only after we can record calls from line. All this was made for HTC Desire, Desire HD, and others including SGS
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
The reason why none of the recording software work because there is no api in the sdk for that... So you cannot make a software to record inline voice...!!!
Sent from my LT15i using XDA Premium App
Maybe, but how without api, software "call recording" work perfectly on HTC and Samsung android devices?
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
probably they extend an API unofficially since they update Phone apps as well.
This issue is somewhat sensitive since it's relevant to the legal matter, it may be unlikely to get it fixed from google perhaps. I'd like to port their efforts to arc if I can get some kind of information what they have done on their devices.

Yes because of legal issues, google is releasing such api...
Will have to work on our own to get an api...
After that coding one call recorder software is quite easy...!!!
I wonder what legal issue is that because android is world wide used and I don't think there's any legal issue here in my country to record the line in of my own call/received call.
So the legal issue should meant to be force to use only in USA and some other country who have those issue. While the api that world wide used should have this function so those with out this "legal issue" in there country can use, isn't it ?
Hi there,
Can you please try the app Total Recall Android by Killer Mobile Software for recording calls?
They claim it records calls on Xperia Arc without any modifications or root needed.
I would like to buy this phone to replace a SGS that can record only with 2.2.1 FW...but I would like to know if this realy records bouth sides of the conversation without speaker phone enabled on the actual firmware versions.
Thank you in advance!

[Q] CM7 with netflix, skype, and wireless tethering?

Does anyone have CM7 with netflix, skype (w/video), and wireless tethering all working on their incredible 2?
I am thinking about trading in my inc2 for an iphone 4 because I know the netflix and skype w/video apps work without spending any time modifying the OS. And from what I've heard the jailbreak process for wireless tethering is super easy on the iphone 4.
However, if it is fairly easy to get all of this working on an inc2 (meaning I don't want to spend more than a few hours), then I will just keep mine and avoid giving in to apple.
I'm on CM7 and a Skype video test call worked, whereas before rooting this morning the video test would crash the app. xgunther said in another thread that he had wireless tether working, but I've not been able to get CM7's integrated tether nor the source wifi tether app to work. Might just be my PC, though. I can see the networks, but I'm having a hard time getting an IP.
I don't have a netflix account so can't comment on that.
Netflix is apparently working: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15494240&postcount=18
Wifi tethering worked for me on the first try, Netflix works (it's sort of laggy), and I haven't tested Skype video calling.
I'm on the latest nightly build as of July 8. What isn't working for me is the compass (north=south).
FWIW, I did stumble across a thread about wireless tethering where someone mentioned that the latest version (beta) does not work and said to use the latest non-beta version.
I have yet to root my phone and verify myself though.
Where did you guys get the Skype Video apk and the Netflix APK is it from the XDA thread?
EDIT: Found the Netflix APK

I was able to find the Skype apk by doing a Google search. I actually found two of them. However, since I am currently running Android 2.2, they just force close when I enable video. From what I have read you need to use the Android 2.3 in order to get the Skype w/video apk to work on an inc2.

I'm pretty sure the Skype .apk I'm using is found here: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/04/11/download-skype-with-video-on-android/
I tested the Skype and Netflix (The NEW NetFlixONE PowerHouse ColorConversion Super App [High Color Contrast Very Bright]) they both work pretty much flawlessly for me on wi-fi!

with apple though, everytime they do a software update don't you have to wait for a new jailbrake and do it all over again? btw it's really easy to S-OFF & install a ROM on the Inc 2
Netflix works, WiFi and USB tether work on CM7, apparently Skype video works, and there is a Zip you can flash to get video chat in Google Talk or search "Talk 1.3 installer" in marketplace.
When I try to install the Skype mobile apk, I just get an "application not installed" message. Any tricks I can try?
I've tried the first download link and the mirror.

I'm in the same boat, I'm S-Off with the latest Cyanogenmod 7 Nightly flashed and the skype apk won't install. I got the netflix apk to install without a hitch.

Do a Google search for "Skype with video support for various devices". First result. Sorry, can't post outside links...

Thank you, I actually was able to find the file, and it installed successfully. I haven't been able to test video yet, but the option is available.
Yea I found a different Skype Apk after I posted that, and It fully works, both front and back cameras. And you can still IM while the video is on. Pretty cool.

Care to explain where?
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
I just skyped with my wife via wireless connection, and it works amazingly well. We were on for 45mins, and it never stuttered or reduced quality. At some point I'll try 3G and see how well that works.

[Q] Voice calling for Google Talk

I am running Cyanogenmod 7.2 Stable, no further mods, on my HTC Desire Z.
I came across this thread: http://www.androidng.com/install-google-talk-video-audio-any-android-gingerbread-phone but given that it seems to apply to older 2.3.3 ROMs and not the current 2.3.7 ROM (CM7.2) I am unsure about whether I should flash that app.
Anyone know if the app in that link will work on CM7.2? If not where can I find one that works?
I don't need the video calling to work (since the DZ doesn't even have a front camera), just the voice calling. Thanks in advance.
I tried using google voice through talkatone (amazing program uses google voice over the data channel not the voice channel) on mimicry v1.5.0 and it didn't work. Something about the kernel not supporting some sort of streaming thingie. Running blackice now and it runs amazingly well.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I am not trying to use Google Voice. I am talking about the Google Talk app that is mostly used to do instant messaging chat (similar to Whatsapp, BBM, iMessage). The Nexus devices on stock ROMs have the additional capability of voice and video calling built into the Google Talk app - bringing its capabilities to that of Skype. But non-Nexus devices don't have this, plus CyanogenMod 7.2's own Google Talk app lacks it. I don't need to use it to make calls to real phone numbers, I just want to, say, call my sister while she is logged into Gmail on her laptop. And yes, I know about Skype, but I don't like using it on a different device or computer other than my main PC due to its super annoying feature of constantly syncing my text chat history every time I log in.
To rephrase my question: Is the Google Talk apk linked in my OP suitable for flashing onto my DZ and then using for voice calls? If not, where can I get a suitable Google Talk apk?
Sorry misread the post (never read and drive) but if I am not mistaken it uses the same backend. Guess I will have to try it myself and see what happens.

I think you are looking for gapps-gb-20110828-newtalk-signed.zip
Just flash it over CM7.2 through recovery (don’t forget to make nandroid backup before flashing ).

Video Dialer???

Did they do away with this or did I just not notice it till now??
I'm using JDevil's Zodiac rom and see a video dialer, I know it's based on the release that came out around then.
I could've sworn I never seen it before until this rom.
The video dialer is standard on international stock roms. Chances are the ROM you are using was cooked up from stock sources. Its a cool feature that does nothing in the US, but gives you native video calling over GSM in EU and other parts. Its been out on EU phones forever.
Damn that sucks, I was looking forward to trying out actual video calling. As opposed to Video Chat with Skype or whatever app.
