Help please!!!
I have a bricked USB desire with the latest cyanogenmod 7.0.2.1 rom installed I'm trying to generate an img file to repair but cannot find the rom number for the generator as per the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691639
It isn't in the menu settings > about Phone
I have found the kernel number but that's only 8 digits (2.6.37.4) and doesn't work.
Can anyone help been trying to unbrick for two days now without success.
Many thanks
I think rom number doesn't matter, you can use any rom number becouse you will not use your own mtd0.img but this downloaded
Or use modaco way
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...com/309961/usb-brick-rickrolled-b0rked-fixed/
and google for hex editor
good luck
hi, do you remember the stock rom you had?
the latest update froyo rom (desire bravo gsm) was Bravo_WWE_2.29.405.5
if you have got a desire bravo gsm, you can try with that rom number.
see also turkey's TUT http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814381
hope this help
Ok guys I've managed to fix it!!! After numerous attempts I've carefully followed the guides in the forum and used the hex editor to create and edit the mtd0.img I then downloaded the terminal emulator and after several attempts at getting the files in the right place on my sdcard and getting the spaces, slashes and dashes all correct in the command lines my device has sprung back into life. Many thanks to this great forum and the genius who came up with the fix!!! Next is to get the Leedroid rom working!

Hello!
I recently purchased a HTC Desire HD through a carrier in Australia after being a nokia dumbphone owner for my "connected life". I have done some reading into the Custom ROM scene and I am loving the potential benefits and modifications that are possible with them, however being new to Android, new to Smartphones and new to Custom Roms I am to say the least a little confused.
I decided this carrier added bloatware just has to go and after a little reading I like the idea of LeeDrOiD HD v1.2.
I have attempted to follow the instructions in the Leedroid HD thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842802
Which tells me i Need to flash.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842819
Which in turn tells "You will need the ENG HBOOT installed on your device to flash this recovery!"
and of course I could not find any details on what ENG HBOOT is let alone how to install it.
How deep does the rabbit hole go Alice? The multiple tears are becoming confusing and complicated and I am wondering if this is just a LeeDroid thing, or are these steps necessary for all custom roms? Or just the Desire HD. I am fairly confident with the safety of replacing a rom but the more steps by more people are adding uncertainty in the safety of the whole procedure and of course raising the probability of an under informed and maybe slightly reckless newby to brick a perfectly acceptable phone.
Is anyone able to reccomend a resource to better acquaint a Newby with this new territory? Is thier a more comprehensive guide to installing LeeDroid or "Rom-ing" an android phone.
Hi,
Give me a few minutes to pull together a few guides for you.
This Guide with Video is very helpful at performing all the little tasks that allow you to flash custom ROMs.
In short the ENG HBOOT allows the flashing of an unsigned recovery "Clockwork Mod", which then allows you to flash custom ROMs. Flashing the ENG HBOOT is a one time process, once you have done it there is no need to do it again.
Just a few questions,
1). Do you have a Stock HTC Unbranded & Unlocked ROM or a Carrier Branded ROM?
2). Have you rooted you DHD yet?
This is the way I personally went about the whole process, its a guide that zexbig posted and can be found HERE
Summary:
1) Download Paul's Visionary+ tool (I have used version r12) (google removed this app from market) so You will have to download it from Paul's website.
This tools enables root and removes new HTC protection.
2) Install engineering version of HBOOT to get S-Off (HTC bootloader, something like BIOS for Your PC)
This step is optional and it's not required in order to flash custom ROM's on Your DHD but gives You more freedom with Your device.
3) Install custom recovery image (recovery is special program which is invoked from HBOOT
in order to flash ROM onto Your device.
Detailed description:
1) Download Paul's Visionary+ tool
1.1) Click here to download http://android.modaco.com/content/ht...ne-click-root/ or download it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...3&d=1290501865
1.2) Install Visionary+ on Your DHD
1.3) Run it, enable "Set system r/w after root
1.4) Click "Temproot Now!" - Wait until it's finished
1.5) Click Attempt Permroot Now!
1.6) DHD automatically reboot's
To test that everything went fine download from market application "terminal emulator"
run it, type su
If You get after that sign # it mean's that everything went fine.
Time for next step!
2) Install engineering version of HBOOT to get S-Off
2.1) Download sfjuocekr DHD script for flashing HBOOT from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835746
2.2) Unzip it and copy it to Your SDCard (It's important that You have on Your SDCard root directory with name DHD and all files inside this directory.
(I have run into the strange problem for which I'm not sure is it problem with my PC or DHD, each time when I connected my DHD via USB cable my SDCard was automatically mounted as Disk Drive instead of just being in "Charge only" mode. I resolved this by removing back cover and ejecting SDCard and inserting it again while phone was operational, which is very unsafe thing to do!).
2.3) Run Terminal Emulator
2.4) Type su
2.5) Type "sh /sdcard/DHD/check
(Please be aware that You have to type "sh" in front of command)
2.6) If everything went OK type
sh /sdcard/DHD/backup
2.7) If this also went OK proceed with
sh /sdcard/DHD/hboot
This command will install engineering hboot which have S-Off turned off.
3) Install custom recovery image
3.1) Since ROM manager now officially support's Desire HD, we will use it to download and install custom clockwork image.
3.2) Run android market app on Your DHD and download and install ROM Manager app from market.
3.3) Download and install ROM manager.
3.4) Run ROM manager and select first option (Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery).
3.5) Wait until ROM Manager say's that installation went successfully (Current version of ClockWorkMod is 2.5.1.3)
3.6) After installation tap in Rom manager option Reboot into Recovery to test that everything went well.
3.7) DHD should reboot in clockwork recovery manager.

-Visionary is now v14+, not 12 as posted.
If you have any problems, just let us know.
Quick Response thanks!
It is unfortunatly a Carrier Branded rom. Full of widgets that are just links to webpages. What is even worse is I bought my phone through a company who leases lines off the carrier so because I am technically not with the carrier I can't use their aps even if i wanted to.
I believe I have temp rooted it so far. I have downloaded VISIONary +
Epic.. Thank you kindly. I am in the process.
I don't understand why carriers have to ruin the whole "Android Experience" by bundling awful apps that nobody wants, otherwise they would of downloaded them themselves.
The last guide I posted is the one I used. Once you have followed all of the steps then your in a position to flash a custom ROM. If you are planning to overclock or underclock then you will also need to find a suitable "Kernel" to flash with your ROM. Most ROMs do come complete with a custom kernel but that may not be the best for your particular needs.
Once bit of advice. Always, always a backup of your ROM before you flash anything else.
Flashing custom ROMs is easy once the above steps are complete.
1). Download your chosen ROM.
1a). Optional Download your chosen Kernel.
2). Transfer ROM (+ Kernel) to your SD Card, place in the root of the card.
3). Boot into Recovery. Power off (Ensure HTC Fast Boot is disabled), Power on whilst holding VOL DOWN, using volume keys select Recovery, press power to enter.
4). Create Backup, backup and restore > backup.
5). Wipe All Data including cache
6). Install .zip from SD Card, Select the correct ROM zip and confirm.
7). Optional, repeat with Kernel, if necessary.
8). Reboot.
9). Bask in glory, you have conquered your smartphone.
Again, if you want more info feel free to ask. We all had to learn once, or twice.
For Clarification on HBOOT loading.
I do want to be viewing the Android device as a disk drive?
Secondly Do I create a folder on the SD card in the root directory called DHD and then drop the 3 files contained in the Zip file into that folder?
Example
Root Directory
>.data
>Alarms
>Android
>bugreports
>DCIM
>DHD --Newly created folder
>>DHD-dumb --dragged and dropped
>>DHD-smart --dragged and dropped
RTFM.txt --dragged and dropped
>downloads
etc..
Yes you do want to view it as a disk drive.
You are also correct with the folders.
SDCard/DHD/ - place files here -
Ok my description failed.
Instead of the folders listed above
">>DHD-dumb --dragged and dropped
>>DHD-smart --dragged and dropped
RTFM.txt --dragged and dropped"
should I be taking the contents of (smart or dumb?) and placing that in the DHD created directory?
obviously the commands in the terminal dont correspond to having the files in a sub folder. I appologise for you having to answer obvious questions however I am a little weary of bricking.
I'd rather you post a question and get it answered before you post a problem and have an expensive paperweight.
Take the "DHD-smart" folder from wherever you extracted it, place that on your SD Card, then rename that folder to just "DHD".
Excellent. All Is working as planned. I'm in the process of D/L ing Leedroid rom.
Thanks for your help again.
I'll post back once I have things up and rolling.
No problem at all.
Just remember to make a backup from within "Recovery", it will save you one day.
I appologise I forgot to Post back.
Everything is running sweetly now, absolutley no bugs with the Root or new LeeRoid rom.
Thanks again for your help.

Welcome to the ranks of Android hackers. Health warning: flashing is addictive.
Sent from my performance enhanced Desire HD.
Yes it is
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Hi all,
First of all I have an Asian version Generic HTC Desire Z (Asian version but not under a provider) with the following software information:
Android version 2.2.1
Baseband: 12.28e.60.140fU_26.04.02.17_M2
Kernel: 2.6.32.21-g6e170e7....
Build: 1.82.707.1 CL317545 release-keys
Software: 1.82.707.1
My CID is HTC_044
From what I read, in order to root, we have to downgrade the software version to 1.34..... , right?
SO thats what I did.
I have followed the steps to downgrade in ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905261 )
and creating a goldcard ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=832503 )
I tried both (2 different attempts) the PC10IMG.zip file and exe/RUU file, and have copied the whole zip file onto the SDCard (not in any folder), without extracting the files.
When I get to step 9-10 (phone in bootloader mode), I receive an error message like user "waqypaqy" got.
When I reboot into the bootloader, the phone scans the SD card, then I get this:
SD Checking...
Loading...[PC10DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PC10IMG.zip]
No Image!
Then after a few minutes, comes to another screen and says:
"CID incorrect! Update Fail! Press <POWER> to reboot."
From the bootscreen, here's the info:
VISION PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT -0.85.0009
RADIO-26.04.02.17_M2
eMMC-boot
CID Incorrect!
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot
Does anyone know what's wrong with this?
It'd be great if anyone could help me.
THANKS in advance =)
PS: I can't post under the "Development" forum because I'm still a newbie and doesn't have enough postcount yet.
The goldcard bypasses the CID check, so you can try looking at that first. Can you confirm that you've correctly written the image from the PSAS site to your sdcard?

Hey theSpam,
I have tried creating the goldcard before, and have received the goldcard image through the email and have updated img through HxD editor (as per the instructions). But like what I said before, it gave me that CID incorrect message.
I'm sorry this might be a stupid question, but how do I check whether I've written the image from the PSAS site? What is the PSAS site?
Thank You for your help =)
I was just asking you to doublecheck that you've correctly written goldcard.img to your sdcard. Most people have issues during this step of the goldcard creation process.
Just open up your sdcard in HxD and see if it's there
Are you using the Asian RUU to get the PC10IMG.zip file? I found this made a difference.

Oh yeah, I have followed all of the instructions in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=832503 for part 1.
I have copied the contents of goldcard.img into the removable disk image and saved the file.
Then I went back to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905261, and followed the steps in that guide.
I only managed to get upto step 10.
Then it showed the error I mentioned above.
The RUU exe file I got was from here:
http://www.shipped-roms.com/shipped/Vision/
I downloaded the file with this name "RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.34.405.5_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155556_signed.exe"
This is the asian version, right?
I got the rom.zip file by following Part 2 steps in the link above.

Do you know what I'm doing wrong?
That's WWE version, you need RUU_Vision_hTC_Asia_HK_CHT_1.34.708.3_Radio_12.28b .60.140e_26.03.02.18_M2_release_154602_signed.exe

I was told by someone that it would, thats why I didn't try this one..hihi
Oh, and will the steps I have to follow change because of this different filename?
I would also recommend going back and double-checking all those steps for creating the goldcard, because it sounds like it's not recognising a goldcard.

Hi steviewevie,
I just want to make sure whether i've followed the steps correctly or not.
Making the goldcard:
During step 4, "Enter 'adb shell cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc2/mmc2:*/cid' and press enter. You should get a very long number copy it."
This is the number that I get: 479a002f86c320087483035535443530
Step 5 "Visit this page, paste in your number and reverse it."
When I opened the link for that step, there isn't any textfield where I can paste in my number.
So what I did was reverse the number manually into 035344535530384780023c68f200a974
Step 6. I entered the reversed number into the SD Card Serial (CID) text field.
Question: Can I reverse it manually?
Thank you mate (and to anyone who is kind enough to help) =)

As you have downgraded, you can follow the guide found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision to achieve permanent root.
Once you have ClockwordMod Recovery installed (per the above guide), you can flash Cyanogen.
As for the radio, I personally don't recommend changing anything due to the brick risk (however, many others share opposite opinions).

Hi,
I have just finished installing and flashing CM 7 + googleaps zip file.
But I found several problems:
1. Google Maps not installed
2. Calendar is missing
3. Stock email app somehow doesnt work
4. Numbers: I can only see several digits on the letters, they are 1 2 4 5 0
5. And most of all I just found out that HTC Sync does not work with CM =( (can't sync my contacts n calendar anymore through outlook 2010)
Would you have any ideas why this is happening?
THanks very much theSpam!
Same problem!!!
Hey akhoman, happy for you in rooting your desire z successfully! Man, can you give me all the steps you did (one by one)? I have tried so many ways and nothing helped, I also got the CID wrong, I tried to make the goldcard but still having that problem all the errors and information are exactly like yours... BIG THANK, dude!

Need to flash gapps after you flash cm Rom
I've been reading and searching the net trying to find out how to root my DHD and the 1st step seems to be to downgrade the software. I understand what I need to do but I have one problem, where is the downgrade folder I am supposed to be in when I type the adb commands? I imagine it is either part of HTC sync or a folder I have to download that contains certain files like gingerbreak. Non of the posts I've read on this or any other forum have said where to find this downgrade folder, can anyone help?
You posted in the wrong section.

Since i cant Post in the Android development section (Mods can you merge this post with this thread =>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216924
thank you
...
ok now heres how i did it.
First get the newest market http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...-and-games-pin-number-for-purchases-and-more/ , download it then rename it to com.android.vending.apk and dump it in the root of your SD card
then go to Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->All Tab->Market: Clear Cache and Clear Data (must be done for this to work
then i connected my HTC Touch Pro 2 (sprint) (RHOD 400) to my computer using Droid Explorer . http://de.codeplex.com/releases/view/66510
then i ran the console (droid explorer shell)
then i used the line cp /sdcard/com.android.vending.apk /system/app/Vending.apk (THANKS Starfox for the code in your post)
I noticed it removed the market 1.8.2 (or whatever version i had on it)..
then i just ran the installer i put in my root of the SD card and it worked..
I want to thank Starfox, arrrghhh and nickelghandi for there tips and code..
I tried the other methods and with Starfox's Method I couldnt use the "," key on the htc keyboard..
Ive been using xdandroid for a couple of months and Just wanted to share what i had spent a couple hours trying to install the new market..
Mods thanks for your patience i am new to posting here.. Please move this thread to the android development section for others to use...
Doesen't work with my Blackstone...when trying to enter the line in Droid Explorer it tells me: cannot create "/system/ vending.apk" : file exists
When trying to install -> fail
The reason for trying to install a new market was a nontemporary error msg when trying to run /download from market which led to force close...-.-
Any idea what I can do?
It occured after getting freeze during market download...
Starfox's method always worked for me.
Hi everyone
The following summarises my quest to root my recently acquired HTC Desire/Bravo:
Key info:
Android 2.2
HBOOT 0.93
Build 2.12.110.4 CL274424 release-keys
Radio 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Kernel 2.6.32.15-gd96f2c0 - [email protected] #1
SIM Unlocked
T-Mobile branded
UK
I first try using Unrevoked. After a promising start, I get the 'Validation error: backup CID missing' message, for which I can find no solution for on the internet. I tried using a different computer booting a clean Slax image, wiping the phone, and using four different versions (3.32, 3.31, 3.21, 3.14) to no avail.
Next I try using the GoldCard method. I find a suitable memory card, and get cracking using this method: http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/
I manage to get my CID: 0353445355303147804029a554007c08
However, it turns out that the website used to generate the goldcard boot sector is not working ('Page not found'). It appears to have been working until only recently.
No matter, I found a standalone solution here: http://www.mygsmforum.com/f15/all-htc-goldcard-generator-perl-script-free-standalone-unlimited-7255/
I grabbed the file, and I managed to get it working by compiling both of the perl modules it needs. I typed in the command:
perl ./goldcardgenerator.pl -d sd80.img -p magic=xxx -p cardid=0080c700455a9204087413035535443530
You might notice I haven't specified the security level or the key set, but I can assure you that not a byte of the output file changes when I use the defaults specified in the readme.
So I have a convincing looking header. I do as the instructions say and copy the first 0x170 bytes to the beginning of the card. It reads and writes to the FAT32 partition fine, so I assume the card's good. So I copy over a rom I got here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775
Rename it update.zip and boot into recovery. I try to flash, and I get the 'E:Signature verification failed' error, so obviously the goldcard's not working.
My contention is that when I made the image, I missed one or more vital parameters, keys, seclevel, cid etc. However I really have no idea where to start looking for them, since they're so obscure.
Help with anything to do with this (Including getting Unrevoked to work) would be much appreciated! Honestly, I've spent the entire day trying to get this to work.
Thanks,
Hamish Milne
screw unrevoked.
Go to www.revolutionary.io and follow the instructions
Go to my guide and flash recovery
Backup your ROM, and then push superuser with adb.
Done. Rooted.
All resources you need are there. Tutorials, links etc.
Yep, unrEVOked is obsolete. This should be mentioned in sticky thread.
Truly excellent! Thank you!
Flashed the Clockwork mod, and replaced the bootloader without breaking the OS.
However, I still don't have root. I know I could flash the ROM, but I'd rather not wipe my data again. How exactly would I go about 'flashing superuser with adb'? (I have the adb installed btw)
EDIT: Wait, found it
actually, i had hboot 1.06 on my stock cdma desire, and i had to use revolutionary's tool before running unrevoked. i tried 3 different desires with unrevoked before i discovered revolutionary, and after it unrevoked did its job just fine.
