[Q] google nav voice - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On a couple older versions of MIUI there was a very pleasant, human-sounding voice in the navigation. I would get a message when navigation started that it needed to install something for navigation announcements to work. If I clicked "install from market" it would install a package and then the normal anoying robot-sounding voice would replace the pleasant one. I'm running CM7 now and when I search for audio files there's a bunch of audio files in the cache. When I play them they're the nice pleasant voice I had heard before. I'm fairly certain that TTS is jumping in and taking the place of the pleasant voice. I use the nav daily. There must be a way to let google nav use the nice voice instead of reading it with the TTS. Any ideas?

Good question! I have been wondering the same for a while now, just never asked. Hopefully someone will come along and save us from that robot of a voice!

I tried looking for settings for disabling TTS for maps but nothing. Clearing defaults or cache does nothing.

[q] Android on Touch Pro 2 with working text-to-speech and accessibility?

hello to all in the android touch pro 2 community,
I have tried out the latest (10/13) android build on my TP2 without much luck.
I'm someone with a visual impairment who would use talkback (screen reader) which uses the Android's text-to-speech in order to read the screen.
I got some sighted help attempting to turn talkback on, and found to my dismay that there was no speech. I am using xdandroid, from the android project-this seems to be the only build which has the speakerphone working out of the box.
Could anyone please help me in either building a release containing text-to-speech or tell me what I can do to have a functional and working copy of talkback on my touch pro 2?
I would love to try this on my touch pro 2. It would be great and I do not want to let something as small as blindness limit me in what I can accomplish.
Thank you so much for all your imput,
all the best,
Tomi
htc_tomi,
From what I have read, most of the other applications that use voice and such, needs to have the speakerphone activated prior to booting android.
These are the steps, to the best of my recollection.
While in WinMo call your voice mail and turn on the speakphone, while the prompts are being played boot xdandroid and halfway through the boot the voice prompt sounds will cease, you will have a hum / buzz in the speaker (don't worry), once android has booted play a sound that should stop the hum / buzz. And according to what I have read that is how gthey got google voice to work.
Hope this helps.
hi,
thanks for that tip. I've read about this too but saw updates that they've fixed sound to work in the latest development build.
What strikes me strange is that there is no "text-to-speech" option in the settings of Android. Usually there's a text-to-speech setting on Android phones in the main screen.
This is what lead me to think that TTS has somehow been omitted from this release, though I have no way of verifying this yet...
All the best,
Tomi

[Q] Default Bluetooth action

I just got a motorola mx550 headset and the problem I have is twofold. One is that no matter matter what I do the volume in s voice is always set high. So I wanted to use a different app, downloaded my motospeak only to find out that I cant change the Bluetooth button on my headset to open it, no matter what I do it opens s voice!
And after playing with google voice search i would much rather use that as the default action. Ive scoured all the settings and cant find a way to change the default away from s voice. I went into applications and reset all app actions to default, I even installed Bluetooth launch app with no success. Anyone have any suggestions? I may root my phone if that what it takes.

its not too bad to set up. Go to settings, manage apps, and find s-voice. Then from there disable it. (note this means you cannot use SVoice anymore while its disabled.) From there, when you hit the headphones button, it will ask you to pick a new default app which you can save to always use. To undo the action, simply reenable s-voice, and it will take over the default action again. If you want to change from the new app you selected and still not use s-voice, just find the app in manage programs and clear defaults. I have not found a way to keep s-voice on double home, and use something else for bluetooth. In all honesty, google now voice calling sucks hard. It only allows you to call, not use any other now features. If you force set the activity to use the google now search activity, it wont use the headset for voice input, only the built in mic. The solution I posted should get you exactly what you want to use that 3rd party moto app though.

Thank for you this information. I've looked all over and finally found your reply and it worked perfect.

Bluetooth media audio and google voice recognition

Hello all!
I hope that this is the right spot for this in the forums, I have a VERY frustrating problem since I updated to JB on my Sprint Samsung Galaxy SIII. I tried to put it on the main Galaxy SIII page but no responses. Sorry for the double post.
Let's say I reboot my phone and get into the car. I can push the little microphone and dictate all of my text messages, use Google now and life is good. BUT if I were to then listen to Google Music Player, or an audiobook through the speakers in my car, I no longer have access of the Google voice recognition. I try to dictate a message but I don't see the OK TO TALK prompt. I can't use Google now because it gets stuck in Recognizing..I can't use any of the voice features of my phone.
BUT, if I turn off the Bluetooth, I can use the voice recognition features. Turn it on and they can't be used. If I uncheck the bluetooth audio media option, all works great, but as soon as I check it, The voice recognition features no longer work. Rebooting solves the problem, until I listen to Google Music Player
This is very frustrating because sometimes I do have to dictate my text messages while driving. I can't do this, or use Google Now while I am in my car. I really think it is the Bluetooth Media Audio, but I am unsure how to correct this.
Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks
Mike

Voice commands just return google searches.

I have reset the watch and phone several times. Reinstalled the wear app, unpaired, repaired. Nothing
I cant do music control anymore. Fit commands dont work.
"Play music by Coldplay" just does a google search on the phone.

This has happened before... it is most likely a server update or something. It is happening to me too. Odds are all will be back to normal in a few hours. No idea why this happens, but it always goes away. Not the best answer I know.
Now google music isnt showing as an option in the app under voice actions...
Check if the voice recognition is set only to English. When I tried using English and another language that doesn't support voice commands nothing worked

Voice Assistant Button not working

This last weekend Google pushed a new Version of Google Voice to my Gemini PDA.
Since then I have been unable to get the Voice Assistant Button to work
I cannot find in settings or Google Voice a setting to associate the hardware button to Google Voice.
How do I do that?
Can you still hear the sound when you press the button? If so, have you just tried speaking, maybe google changed something in ui with last update.
The button is now unresponsive - no sound when pushed, no application enabled, etc.
If you open "Gemini Voice Assistant" app and press mic image, do you get any response?
I have this problem too -- the voice assistant button is completely unresponsive after Android update. If I open Gemini Voice Assistant app and press the green microphone icon then that appears to work as intended -- a "zwipzwip" sound is played, the screen is screenshotted, and Google Assistant opens. I'd like the button to at least open google assistant so that I can call people by voice dialing without opening the screen.
Hey guys,
Try downloading Google Assistant from Play Store. Mine went through a few screens and then everything seemed to transfer from Voice Search in the regular Google App to Assistant.
no luck installing assistant
I installed the Google Assistant app from the play store but this had no effect on reenabling the button on the right side of the gemini near the usb port.
Strange. I'd just reflash and start from scratch if it's not a massive hassle.
Hi, has anyone found a solution to this? I am having the same issue.
Have you tried updating Gemini voice assistant manually from play store? Search for gem. voice assistant and it will install as an update to existing app.
unistalling and reinstalling the gemini voice assistant app from the play store solved the problem for me
This still does not work for me when the device is closed, can anyone confirm if they've found a fix for it?
