Hi..
I am using HTC desire with original shipped rom and have root it using unrevoked 3.2
I want to unlock nand and s-off.. so is it a good idea to re-root my phone using unrevoked 3.32.
I basically want to remove some system apps (footprints, friend stream,peep,plurk,stocks,teeter)..
i tried using some apps from the market to do the same but was not able to do it beacuse i dont have busybox installed beacuse of low internal memory.
Please guide me with a safe way to delete these apps.
Thanks

Thanks for the info...

I used unrevoked 3.2 previously to root the ph
It's not necessary, because your phone is already rooted. So you can follow the instructions on alpharev.nl
I recommend using the CD-method

And once you have s-off, you can delete unwanted apps via root explorer, just delete the various apk files from /system/app but go carefully and Google or ask here if you are unsure about deleting a certain app.

Thank you in advance!

But then I need to root? Why should I when I'm supposed to to do it "out of the box" with Android 2.2?

You can only install apps to the SD card that the developers allow you to. You can check each app manually in the 'Manage Applications' screen or just let Android do it for you when it needs more space.
Dont listen to them they know nothing
You need Android SDK installed at your PC , then install lastest (2.2) version of adb, and also usb drivers (if you dont have), then connect phone in debugging mode, open cmd , in cmd go to "tools" folder where you installed SDK and write command "adb shell pm setinstallLocation 2" (without "")
after this every app will be installed on SD card and also you will be able to transfer apps you have now
And this works for official HTC ROM that was released this weekend - without root?
I don't wanna mess with my guarantee etc..
Don't understand why this isn't set by default, or not available to change this in the settings on the phone?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
yes it does, and no it does not require root
now i realize that my "guide" is too complicated, there is better guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7460033
there is some guy talking something about losing waranty.. so be careful
Is there a way of batch-installing apk files that I have on my SD from on the phone itself using an app/tool e.g. Titanium Backup, MyBackup Pro etc? I've read through TiBackup's support but it seems to batch-install only apps that you'd have saved prior. I however have downloaded news apps that I haven't installed before and there're so many of them I don't want to install individually...

Sorry... I have tryed with official froyo without root but with bootloader 0.92 the adb isn't working.
This procedure only works with the froyo when the bootloader is on the 0.8x or later version.
Okay, thanx
So now we have to wait for apps like Spotify, XDA etc to update their software - so we can move apps to SD?
Hope that they will do it quick.
Is there any apps in market that has this option available? Just want to test it

I just rooted my Froyo Desire and I want to uninstall Facebook, Friend Stream, Twitter.
I am using Titanium Backup to uninstall.
But everytime I uninstall, the phone reboots.
Any suggestions?
You can't uninstall them that way, you need a custom ROM with them removed (but you might go into a constant sync loop if you do on a Sense-based ROM)
ok, thanks for the reply.
would you be able to direct me to the best custom rom out there?
i'm new to this stuff, i think i flukely rooted my desire (SLCD). lol
No one can say what the 'best' ROM is as it's subjective. I don't even use a custom ROM any more as I've no issues with the stock ROM.
If you want to try one without Sense then look at OpenDesire - it's compiled from source specifically for the Desire as opposed to being ported from the Nexus One
ok cool, thanks will try that see how it goes
I managed to uninstall them just by using root explorer (with the s-off mod of course) and they have gone and no boot loop problems etc.
Phil
Yes if you have made the s-off hack you should be able to uninstall using titanium. But some stock apps are used for sync as mentioned.
OK, i see what the problem now is, I have S-ON.
I just reflashed (or whatever its called) and this time turned S-OFF in the Unrevoked settings, but when i boot the phone to see if it has changed, it is still on S-ON!!! What Gives?????

You need to use alpharev for S-OFF. It is quite safe and fast.
Have a look here

Ok thanks. I will try it and let you know what happens.
If you flash a custom Rom, you can delete some apk files from the Rom zip file, and some afterwards using adb. Not everything is save, some things are best removed using one method. You should check on the developers forum or site. The sense-based Leedroid Rom has a good documentation concerning this.

You can just remove them using adb whilst in Recovery.

OK. Have S-OFF, thanks for the links and help guys!!!!
now on to more important things
How can I add the Apps2SD/Apps2SD+ function on my Desire???
I have a rooted phone running the GingerVillain ROM. It has some programs I don't want like Mail, Gmail and News And Weather.
I followed the steps to remove the programs with Root Explorer. I.E. Going into System/Apps and mounting R/W. long press on the APK and delete. Boom, program gone..... nope! I went into my menu and it is still there. Even worse, it is still works!
I rebooted the phone and the APK files were there again!
Anybody seen this kind of strange activity before?
If you are still S-ON, it won't work. You need to be S-OFF to delete files from the system partition while the phone is up & running.
I've heard of that. How would I know if I'm S-OFF? If I'm not then how can i set my phone to S-OFF?
Strangely it appears that the file deletes. It only reappears after reboot. I would have thought it wouldn't have deleted at all if it wasn't working correctly.
How to know that? Well, it was just discussed, you're not S-OFF, because you can't delete files from the system partition (it disappears, but it's still there).
And also if you did not do the S-OFF procedure, it won't be S-OFF'd.
Here's the guide how to do it: S-OFF Tutorial

Another way to find out S-ON/OFF is to look into your H-BOOT by turning off your phone, hold down the volume down and switching on. The first line will tell you what it is set to.

Unless you've done the s-off procedure you won't be s-off
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
I found the s-off procedure using alpharev bootable CD as quick and easy as rooting (once I was running a custom rom).
Now I have zapped unwanted apps directly whilst running and also flashed hboot giving me more free memory and a very responsive phone.

And if you don't want to go s-off just delete the files in the Rom zip file before you flash it.

Hi,
my friend has an HTC Desire HD, which is on a stock 2.3.3 ROM, unrooted, AT&T Branded, probably Net-Locked (not SIM-Locked though) and S-ON. Now the VOL-UP button is mechanically broken, which is covered by her insurance.
I want to back up all her data, apps and app settings. I will probably flash a RUU before giving it to the repair people to delete all personal information. How do I perform the backup?
I usually use Titanium Backup for that but it requires root, which requires a downgrade, which deletes all the apps. Basically I want a temproot for 2.3.3, but I couldn't find anything like that. Visionary+ seems to work on 2.2 only.
Thanks for any advice or information.
I know my way through a terminal and have access to Windows, Linux and OS-X. Bonus if I only require the Linux machine though.

Hi, I'm not that technical so here's what I would do. Root the phone, make a backup of original ROM using ROM Manager. Do what you want, save it and then flash back to the original ROM.

But as I understand it, in order to root it I have to downgrade it to 2.2 first and the downgrade deletes all my apps and settings. Is that not correct?
Try root with superoneclick 2.3.3

Doesn't work. Superoneclick runs through without error but the installed Superuser App on the phone crashes, Titanium Backup can't get root access and after a reboot everything is gone.

Try uninstalling superuser and installing from the market to see what happens.

Hi my nick is daltanious78 i hope of being in the right section.
I'm going to get permits s-off and root of my HTC Wildfire (buzz) my problem is that I Hboot version 1.01.0002 while all the guides I've found concerning Hboot version 1.01.0001.
I am interested in obtaining permits without deleting the data inside the smartphone.
There is a system to change from hboot 1.01.0002 to 1.01.0001 hboot and thus obtain root permissions without deleting all the data?
Thank you for all

Hi you are in the right section
But you cannot s-off and keep all your data. The process Involves downgrading your phone using a tool called an RUU, or Rom update utility. This will factory reset the device wiping everything. You can manually back up your contacts, sms and everything from the sdcard manually but as far as app data goes you will have to lose it to gain s-off. But I will check and see if I can spot a non root app back up app on the market.

Sorry but the quick answer is no pal. If you used a root exploit like psnuter you could gain temp root access but these methods lead to lots of instability. Sorry :/

Hello everyone, I have read that to get root permissions on a htc wildfire these must have hboot 1.001.0001 and 1.001.0002 hboot instead who owns the world may be able to have root permissions without first obtaining the dell'hboot downgrade. I wanted to know if it is possible to downgrade without losing data.
Thank you for all

Hello everyone I have read that to get root permissions on a htc wildfire must first get the s-off. I am in my HTC Wildfire but I 1.001.0002 version that does not allow to do the s-off, I read on the internet that it is possible to downgrade to the previous version dell'hboot the 1.001.0001. what I wanted to know if it is possible to downgrade without losing all the data that is in the phone. or alternatively if there is a program like titanium backup that allows you to make a copy of data or sd or the cloud such as Dropbox without having root permissions and it works with the version of Android 2.2.1 (froyo). thanks for the help I will succeed in giving.

I just want to male clear for all new users about backing up data without root. It is not possible on this phone without root and since we need to downgrade to get root, if you have hboot 1.01.0002 or higher you will lose your app data. We cannot change that fact. For anyone that needs help downgrading please refer to the dedicated threads. Cheers,
Heavy metal man.
