[Q] Restore contacts from HTC Sync to pure Android - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been using the Android Revolution rom with HTC Sense up until now, and I've been using HTC Sync to backup my contacts, messages etc.
I'm currently using CM7 and I did a full wipe before installing the rom. Since I've got no HTC Sense apps now, and cannot connect to my PC using HTC Sync, is there any other way to restore my data from HTC Sync?
Thanks

Sync it with google then re-sync it when you load cm7. Or export contacts to sd then import them in cm7.

Not sure I understand. You mean flash a default rom, or any other which has HTC Sense, then sync contacts to google? I've done a full wipe, so I've only got CM7 now

Re-install a rom you can use htc sync then restore your contacts. Then export to your sd and then import them when you are running cm7. Try google sync first though. They might be in your google account.

Ok, thanks, I'll give it a try.
Anybody else know of a way to do this without re-installing a htc sense rom?

Syncing with a Non-"Sense" ROM

Thinking about flashing to a stock 2.2 FroYo ROM (Cyanogen's)...
But would I be able to copy the apk's presently for the HTC Facebook/Friendstream apps, and install those onto FroYo JUST for contact picture/info syncing purposes?
I'm not interested in using the actual Friendstream app or anything. I just want to have my Facebook contacts sync ok.

Stock HTC Desire CDMA rom

Anyone have the stock rooted HTC Desire rom with Sense UI for USCC. When I flashed cyan I apparently didn't do a Nandroid Backup and was needing this. thanks...

Yeah, tried this one and it doesn't have htc sense...any other thoughts?
Why don't you think it has sense? It is the basically the factory image.

It is basically a vanilla Cyan. It doesn't have the sense theme and/or any of the sense widgets. Basically I can deal without the widgets but I desperately need to be able to sync with my microsoft outlook. I used outlook religiously for all work info and need that info to be on my phone as well. The Sense operating system allowed this whenplugged through usb, you could download HTC Sync and it would sync up my outlook with my phone....Info in outlook needed: contacts, calendar, tasks....I've downloaded a calendar app which used gmail to sync and that's okay, (not great) but the main thing is my tasks and contacts now....
The one I pointed to brought my phone back to the way it was when I got the phone aside from being rooted still. It has all the original widgets that came with it.
I also sync my outlook calendar, contacts and email with it.
The only difference was that this image was still rooted and not set back to a true unrooted factory state. I'm really not sure why you are not seeing you phone back to the way it was when you walked out of the USCellular store the day you got it after restoring to this image.
Have you tried connecting con247 yet and see what he says about this?
I don't know either.....I will try and contact him and let you know...thanks for the help...
edit: I tried downloading it again and the same result. Boots up Cyan again. Does it matter if you use the free download link rather than purchasing the premium. Another thought: If I get a hold of another desire and root it and then do a back up of the Sense UI, could I just simply copy/paste the backup into my SD Card backup file and then restore that?
It sounds like you need to undo the cyan install somehow before you can run this.
I have not gone any further than a basic root to remove some apps so I am not too familiar with what all doing a cyan mod changes on the system.

I just need The Stock so the *22890 will program my phone, Im having a hard time finding it for some reason.
And why can you revert back the root? As I can see, you have stock rom, but only rooted. If it's working properly, it's no reason to unroot. Id you do it because of original HTC service, they can realize that you were rooted even if now you aren't.
Edit: But if you want to find Stock rom with no changes, try this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667.

Unable to sync contacts at all

I'm having a weird issue. No matter which ROM I use... stock, 2.1 or 3.0 Sense, I am unable to sync my contacts through google or my exchange account. It just keeps trying to sync but doesn't really sync. It sync'd a single contact only. Email and calendar syncs fine so I'm at a lost at what's going on... Anyone have any ideas? I wiped a bazillion times with Cal's format all and Amon 2.3 recovery's own wipe option. Tried flashing all types of ROMS but no goo...

Look at an individual contact that is not syncing, and make sure it says google on the top right.
Edit: You have to set each one manually. It can be a pain, but it's worth it when you are done.
Option 2 is to export your contacts to SD, then upload that file to your gmail via computer. All of your contacts will now be saved to google, but when it syncs you will have double contacts, and will have to delete or link each one.
Either way is a pain, but once your finished, you won't have to do it again.
So I tried the very old WarmTwoPointTwo RLS5 and on that particular ROM, my contacts sync perfectly... then I tried to flash some other ROMs but they still have the same issue... =T The only thing I can think of that I did recently is flash the new radio and then the combo file that includes the newest radio and other stuff...
Did you update the radio after the other rom worked? Try this when you install the new rom connect with wifi before you sign into your gmail and see if that works

[Q] No contacts/phonebook on Absolution rom

Hi
I have been using A revolution on my HTC HD
have flashe Absolution rom and now I dont seem to have any phonebook ie no contact numbers.
Have I missed something??
Cheers
Do you mean you didn't have any contacts AFTER flashing?
Or that they don't show up even after you've downloaded them?
If the former then that is correct, the flashing process wipes everything so you need to re-sync.
If it's the latter then I guess we need some more information.
Dave
Hi
Thanks for the reply
Ok I flashed Absolution
after reboot I no longer have any numbers/for phone or sms.
if i use import export from sim it says phone only unsynced.
It then says no contacts on sim card.
If I reflash back to stock or flash revolution 6 they are all there.
Cant get my head round it.
thanks
Its simple. CM7 based rom's have no sim contact support. You would have to sync them with Google or export them and then really import them

htc backup account disappears in version 6?

I have a question.
recently I was using in my m9 version 5.1 htc my account backup and restore.
after to update my m9 to version 6.0 account htc backup disappears. this is normal? or in version 6 disappear this excellent backup function htc account. and only work at the gmail account
I think htc backup was discontinued but you can only restore in marshmallow, you cannot create a backup.
Lucky for me i had setup my 115gb gdrive as my auto backup location..

Luckily for you, but I want to keep doing backup in my version 6 masmellow. since I format my htc frequently. and restoration of htc me worked wonders. if you upgrade to 6.0 is no longer the backup. what one could do an old restoration. gmail account and does not allow saving call history, accounts wifi. much less the sense settings 7 anyone knows if any rom cooked as revolution or viper. even follows the backup htc?
It is 6.0 across the board. No roms, no matter what they are, will fix it.
Backups will have to be done by a separate app.
