Hello all. I'm new to this and I have to say that the work you guys do here is nothing short of amazing!
I installed the cmod 7 rom on my evo and found this dark horse theme. I would love to have it but I cant find instructions on how to install it. I downloaded the file onto my pc then moved it to my phone sd. Then I went to recovery and tried to install the zip but it showed up as a file with several other files inside that wouldnt allow me to install.
Can anyone please point me in the right driection to find this? Thanks again for all that you guys do!
did you unzip the zip? if so, that's the problem.
welcome to the root world btw.
also, check out the themes in my signature. kfunk is part of modnation, so they're similar to darkhorse.
I've successfully permanently rooted my Sprint Intercept with the latest 2.2 froyo on it without installing custom kernels and wanted to share steps I took since there is some confusion and differences.
Original guide link.
Things you'll need:
Root files.
Samsung drivers.
Windows 7/vista/xp 32 bit.
Steps:
Install Samsung drivers
Reboot your PC
Reboot your phone, connect it to your PC with a usb cable
Put your phone in debugging mode (menu->settings->applications->development)
Extract root files to your c:\intercept-root folder (or any folder you wish)
Start windows command line (start->run->CMD)
Change to your "intercept-root" folder
Execute START_ROOT command
Follow instructions
Once done, don't forget to install Superuser apk.
after you rooted it you were able to put a different rom on it right. trying to clear out the garbage that comes on it.

No, this is just simply to root and remove stuff you don't want. I suggest Titanium backup. There is no proper recovery for the intercept that I know of. The one existing can be flashed and it does work but has some issues with what it backs up and what it restores. It's not complete and may create problems.
If you are rooting the latest 2.2 froyo, after removing all sprint apps you are left with true bare stock so there is really no need for anything else. Make sure you don't remove the sprint vm even if you are using google voice. It needs to be on because of system integration.
you mae one error. the drivers can't be installed on windows 7. I have gotten the drivers from the moment to work once but now its nothing. my computer no longer recognizes the phone when i plug it into the computer. which means that i cant root it or anything. sucks and i need serious help.
hmmm, same problem
Find a friend with a XP laptop and use that?
Glad to know - i have failed at rooting my intercept a few times and have been using my windows 7 box. Trying these instructions from a laptop - will report back!
Success
Using nothing but a old crappy dell laptop runing windows XP I was able to gain perma root using the instructions provided here. On my first run of the script the process failed, I simply did what the program told me to (run the script again) and it worked like a charm.
OP - thank you so very much for taking the time to post.
Question for anyone: now that I have root, I *really* want to be able to use my Intercept as a wi-fi hotspot. Can I do this? Where do I start?
No errors. I got drivers under Windows 7 working but I clearly said it has to be 32 bit as 64 does not work. Check your version.

Download wireless tether app. I've had troubles with it in the past so if that one doesn't work try Barnacle.
how to flash cmo1 custom recovery after phone is rooted?
Just throw intercept root on sdcard and run
All I had to do it throw the root on the sdcard. Run it from the file manager, and then download barnacle. Sweet! Done!

I don't believe there is a supported recovery for the intercept. There is one hacked up but there are some issues with it so I don't recommend it.

There is no problems with the custom recovery. I recommend it if you want to try custom roms/themes. Check sdx for all things intercept

UPDATE: OK, I think this is what he was linking to. But my Antivirus doesnt like it. It says it's a virus. A severe virus.
Good evening everyone,
I am hoping someone can help me. Last night i was in the middle of flashing a Rom (Green Lighting 3.0) and wanted to repartition my SD card. I have flash this ROM and repartition my SD many times and had no issue. I moved my info from my SD card to my computer, wiped and partitioned the SD like normal and no problem. I started putting the info back onto the SD and still no problem. I then tried to flash my rom back onto my phone and when I went to my sd card it said "Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0) (No such file or directory)" I then noticed that I couldnt do anything with my SD card. I have tried different SD cards and they do not show in my phone and I get the same msg still. I have put the card into PC and I can see everything there just cant access it.
To make things stranger, When trying to figure out whats going on, I notice that when I go to bootlader I see S-ON. I know I had S-OFF (Got my EVO last Christmas and rooted it then). Any else have this issue? Im not sure what caused this or what I can do to resolve the issue i was thinking about reflashing back to stock but I cant even put the img back onto my sd card which means im not sure how i would take it back to sprint....Thanks in advance.
Anyone? Can anyone at least help me get to the point where I can take it in to sprint and they cant tell that its been rooted?
Thanks
Would say fastboot but your also saying you don't have root not either.

Might need to reroot then use fastboot
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Or if you want to get really snazy you can symlink the block device for the sdcard to a folder on data then use adb to push files to it. Then in reviving you can flash a new image.

Happened to me first thing you are rooted second thing what I did is format data on card and phone ( backup files on card) via fastboot then you would need to get to adb and type some code to be able to use the card then boot phone and flash a custom recovery I used rom manager if any questions I will try my hardest to help I wish I had help when this happened to me (took exactly 9 straight hours to fix)

Thanks Cesarcerros and Lithid-cm for responding! Do either of you have the necessary steps to preform these steps or a link? Im not really familiar with adb (heck i have tried to get into it again but its not working) And for the rerooting option, would i use the new gingerbread root? Also, i cant get back into the rom so im not sure if that will affect things....again thanks!

I have scripts for setting up just about everything for android, sadly this only working in linux.I have not used windows in over 7 years. When I have helped people before they have always been able to get adb working following this guide here:
http://htcevohacks.com/htc-evo-hacks/how-to-install-android-sdk-and-adb-drivers-for-htc-evo-4g/
You will be able to use the new root method, but without an sdcard to flash anything might be pointless to focus on that. I would look into a decent disk utility and run a scan on the sdcard mounted to your pc somehow (Does the sdcard work when connecting it to a pc and only doesn't work while connected to the evo?). Might be able to simply reformat the sdcard to solve the issue. If there are bad blocks, try to repair them. I know that this all sounds like another language, but now you have some more information when looking up errors for your sdcard.
Thank you both for your help with this. I was able to get this working by downloading Hausx's auto root 2.5 tools and putting that in a folder on my c drive and using the dos prompt to get me into using fastboot. I then used the following commands and I was able to see the sdcard again:
SELECT "FASTBOOT"
PLUG USB
type in the "dos"
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
fastboot reboot
Again thank you both for your help and attention on this.
cesarcerros31, you said you had this happen before, do you know what casued it? I dont remember doing anything out of the normal so i was curious if it might be a hardware issues or something else u were able to figure out?
On a side note, Lithid-cm was learning Linuix easy or did it take some time? Im interested in networking and seeing that a lot of people in networking are familiar with linuix so i figured i should look into it.
Some of the Linux distros like ubuntu or mint are pretty easy for a windows user to get used to. U can always dual boot.

Honestly I am not really sure, I grew up kinda poor and was forced to use linux as we couldn't afford a brand new windows pc. I would find pc parts that people would throw out, and searching the internet I was only able to find linux that was free. Been using it ever since.
I think its easy, its just something to get used to.
Thanks for the advice Fitz. Thats how I learned about building and working on PC's....thanks again everyone.

Hello,
I tried to root my new Nexus 7 (2013). I am not able to post the link of the tutorial which I followed (from androidrootz). I tried contacting the author of that tutorial - he did try his best but was not able to change the state.
When about to complete the entire process, close to the finish - I am not able to get inside the "Recovery Mode" to install Super User SU. i.e. When I press recovery mode in the bootloader I get the Google logo and it stays there till battery runs out.
Now when I start the tablet normally, I get the Google logo and the nexus logo. Then nexus logo stays there till the battery runs out.
I am a developer and I kinda need the tablet to run. My main purpose of rooting the tablet is to use certain admin feature and install a custom ROM.
If I could straighten up my tablet to work the way it does - that would really great. I am not bothered about the loss of data at all.
I could use both Windows and Mac to get things in order. At this moment I am not sure what the problem is nor do I know what to do.
If someone could guide me thro' to get the tablet up and running the normal, I highly appreciate it.
Thank you and regards,
Karsnen.

If you can get into bootloader, you should be able to recovery. I suggest you follow the guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44888268#post44888268
and choose the flash-all option which will wipe user data and start fresh.

So I'm using a Mac OSX 10.8.4, and the new Nexus 7 (2013) version. I unlocked my bootloader, but I cannot get it into recovery mode, and I'm a little nervous. This is my first android device, but I've been an avid iOS jailbreaker since the OG iPhone. Can any of you point me to an extremely thorough guide on how to both fix my current issues, and then properly Unlock, Recovery, Root, and Flash Custom ROMs to this tablet?
Thank you so much.

Are the commands the same in terminal, or should I run windows in a VM to use the command line?
The only cmd in that post is flash-all
It is the same. Get into the directory and enter flash-all when you have to, in the terminal.
When I'm in the VM in windows, I go to the directory, but then it says "flash-all" is not a valid command. What am I doing wrong? It won't work in Terminal either. Can you please walk me through it. I feel so stupid as is, but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Alright, so my phone is really messed up. I wiped my internal data in recovery intending to flash back to full stock using LGNPST. Only problem is...LGNPST is failing...repeatedly...using every .bin available. Luckily, I still have access to TWRP. Already been in IRC, autoprime told me to try side-loading a ROM using ADB. I've never used ADB before, and quite frankly, my attention spam is waning at this point and frustration is mounting and I'd like to get this done quickly and not have to do a ton of reading.
I have downloaded the adt-bundle-windows-x86 file that contains two files, one marked SDK, the other marked Eclipse. If someone could walk me through, starting from one of these two folders(eclipse or sdk), step by step what I need to do to sideload a ROM to get my phone functional again, I would be very appreciative. I'm going to start reading, see if I can figure it out right now, but my hopes aren't real high. This is very foreign to me and I'm sure someone could tell me how to knock this out in just a few steps.
Thank you in advance friends.
EDIT: If it's easier to do it over hangouts, give me your hangout contact and I'll send you a message.

You should still install android if ur rooting. A good tip if u decide to is when ur done update ur path to include adb so u can adb from anywhere. It makes it alot easier

Maybe your could expound on this? Thanks!
Are you talking about installing Ubuntu? If so it wouldn't be needed... You could just copy and paste adb.exe in any folder you need it in on Windows... If you're not going to develop then windows is fine

If you update your path environment. You dont have to change directories everytime you go to adb or fastboot.
An example would be like... ;c:\android\sdk\platform-tools
