Generic device in adb - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In ADB my phone is being recognized as 1234567890abcdef. I do not know why. Now everytime I pull framework and push it back I get a ton of force closes, for even the littlest edits I do. How can I get ADB to recognize my device again?

My device shows up as a generic number, same as yours, whenever I'm on a Gingerbread AOSP rom. As soon as I go back to sense, the serial number shows up as normal. However, I don't experience the force closes you speak of whenever I push something. I mean, sometimes when I mess with anything in the framework-res.apk and push it back (such as transition animations or something), I'll get one force close, but a reboot takes care of that. Do your force closes continue after you make the changes?

Yes it force closes all the gapps, dsp manager, email, mms. It wont let me use the market or rom manager. It is unbearable. I have never had this problem before running cm7.

What type of changes are you making to the framework that results in the force closes? Everything seems to be fine before you change whatever it is that you're modifying?

Just replacing the icons in the lockscreen. I've done it a million times before and never had a problem.

All the apps that you mentioned force closing are system apps in CM7. I don't know why you're having this problem, but knowing that only (and possibly all) system apps force close may help in finding the root of the problem.
I've had all of my system apps force close before. When I tried opening anything located in /system/app the app would force close as soon as I tried to launch it. This happened to me after using a cache cleaning app I had never used before. Rebooting solved my problem, though.

But I could use my phone. And I was still getting the force closes after a reboot.

Help: 2.2 evo, not able to update apps or install apps

So few days ago my evo started not allowing me to update some apps, and some new apps won't install at all. Funny thing is other ones will.like my calculator app won't update, yet some other apps will.Only thing I get is notice saying, unable to install, and no other info.I havent changed anything, and I'm running a completly stock 2.2 system.so I'm clueless about what's going on.

Mine is doing the same. I'm not even able to connect to the app market. Says network error. WTF?

My phone wont connect to the market in 3g I can still browse and watch sprint tv in 3g though. I can only connect to the market and and can only sync in 4g. I rooted using the 2.2 guide

Try going to settings, applications manage, them go to market. Clear cache, force stop and try again. Mine was doing the same but this fixed it.

There is a bug with the market and google voice interfering with eachother, they both must be logged in to work.
Just open google voice and make sure it is logged in, if it already is log it out and then back in. Should work afterwards.
So I have tried what ppl have posted but no luck. Any more ideas?

I just fixed my friend's Droid X that was doing the same thing. Turns out he had deleted Google Talk. If you did then you need to reinstall it using root explorer, find a download of the .apk off the internet, copy it from sdcard/downloads, go to system/apps, click the little button at the top that says mount r/w, and paste. Run the installer and reboot the phone.
Still no luck, and what is the google talk? I don't have an app. Like that

still looking for a fix, any one have a guide to some common fixs.
Same Problem but can't seem to fix it without flashing a custom ROM...
I can't install most updates to apps or new applications. It usually says "update unsuccessful" or "installation error: unknown reason -18." Any ideas?

Browser crashes?

If I visit even a slightly image- or Flash-heavy webpage, the browser crashes. I'm using both the stock browser and Miren, with the same results. If I visit Engadget, it crashes. Pitchfork, and it crashes. I've tried clearing the cache in application info to no avail. My apologies if this has been covered, but the search function on the XDA app is pretty terrible.

I hate to dig this up, but the problem is steadily getting worse. Is there a simple fix I'm missing?

do a nandroid back up
Go to a new rom thread and pull the browser apk. (system/app) and use adb to push it to ur phone "overwritting" yours. (adb push c:\browser.apk /system/browser.apk) reboot. try it out. if it hangs on boot or boot loops, restore your backup and try another one.
try to pull a browser.apk from a stock based rom.
had the same issue on a fresh rom. used to crash when i opened atdhe.net.
Thanks for the response, bro. I neglected to say that I'm running CM6, but I'll give that a shot with the AOSP browser. I appreciate it, man.

App problems?

So I have the Dictionary.com app and the XDA app installed, for some reason on the dictionary app, when I try to search a word it force closes. On the XDA app, after logging in, I try to go somewhere like the homescreen or another forum, it force closes, forcing me to use the guest. I don't know what's causing the problem, but I went to buy another microsd card and that disappeared. I tried to clear the data on each under application manager but didn't work. Anyone have ideas as to what is causing the problem? Is it a sideloaded app or something wrong with the phone itself?

Try opening up Rom Manager and Fix Permissions, see if that fixes it.
If not what rom and kernel are you running?
I'm not rooted. Incredible 2.2

Have you tried unistalling both apps then reinstalling them?

Strange market issue

I am unable to download from the market. If i search for an app and find it in the results list and tap on it the screen flashes black then to white and says loading and then right back to the results list. Ive tried clearing the cache and data in manage applications with no luck. It was working fine a few days ago and the only thing ive changed was to turn journaling on. Any ideas?

Try clearing Market cache and data under settings/applications, and then clearing all apps' cache with an app2sd type program. This may have helped me when I was having another type of market issue.
Thanks for the reply but i've already tried that. I believe the market got messed up on a freeze and battery pull. I was able to replace it with a themed version and all is good. Just need to source the oem apk

Was this a market that you got because it came with a ROM or did you push a new version. I would suggest flashing a new market to the device and trying to see if that can solve the issue
The one i replaced was the original. The market I used to replace it was not from a rom, its one in the themes and apps forum

process com.google.process.gapps has stopped

Need help, my wife's phone is stock srf 1.2 and it was running smoothly for awhile until now, randomly at the begining of making a phone call she is getting process google gapps or framework services stop errors. What is the best way to fix this without having her lose data from her apps?

Try going to settings, aapplications, manage, all, and clear data out of whatever is force closing.

I will try this later, what if nothing is force closing? The error just pops up and then lets me close the popup window but the phone call or text message still works. It also does when my wife unlocks the phone and I just click ok on the popup and the phone will unlock and go to the home screen.
Sounds like you need to enable journaling

You might have to reflash for this to work correctly. Also did you freeze anything in Titanium or another application?
Quickest fix I've found for that Is to just re flash the rom works like a charm....u can even use the ACS Updater app in the market downloads and does the flash for u quick easy and painless

Is gapps itself you need to clear. Do what qb suggested on the com.xxx.gapps
