Use the google widget search box. Long press empty area on your homescreen, pick widgets and google search, all.

Does it not type or does it just not show up?

Google Naigation query

Lovin' everything about this phone at the moment but just a quick q' about the satnav element of google maps... On tomtom you can be set your current location as a favourite from the on screen menus, I haven't been able to find a way to do this on this google nav, is it possible?
sorry, can't find a way to edit the thread title - should read Google NaVigation query-
When you get google maps to find your current location, if you click on the 'pin' you should get a new screen with the details of that location etc. In the top right corner is a star, so you can 'star' that location as a favourite, like you do in Gmail, Reader etc.
AFAIK you can't set a Home location though
Indeed you can! Brilliant & thank you very much. I also just noticed the "labs" stuff with all the different buttons, I like this phone the more I get to know it.
Thanks for the quick help, appreciate it.
Anyone found a way of adding safety camera info/alerts to Google navigation?
The last touch to a great application!!
u can add a home, I presume u have your home phone number in it? Add your address to the home contact then use the navigate to contact, home and done

Missing Default Google Voice Search Icon?

I just received my mt3gs and thought I'd try it "as is" for a few days before rooting it. One thing that I've used heavily on every other Android phone (G1, Droid, EVO) is the voice search icon. That is missing on the mt3gs - is there any way to get it on there? I love being able to hit one icon, then say something like "navigate to starbucks". I tried that with the "Genius Button" and it just plain didn't work. The voice search icon is also missing from the search widget (though it shows up once you click on it to enter text.)
go into the widget menu. select widgets and select the 2nd search widget.
right now you have the HTC search.

Thanks, that solved half my problem! (I guess I didn't scroll down far enough to see the 2nd search widget.) I still like to have just the voice icon on my default home screen since that takes up less space - hopefully someone knows how to add that.
Well, I solved the problem by rooting and installing SlideM!!!

[Q] google search gone?

just now i was showing a friend how to disable the google search bar off my homescreen (settings->apps->all->google search->disable)
but when i went to go back and enable it google serach is gone from the app list (settings->apps->all)
how can i get it back? i can't download google search from the mar....opps i mean, google play store
Once you disable it, it goes to the very bottom of the list.
If it is not there I'm not sure why it disappeared off your list.
I hope this helps.

[Q] On demand pop-up browser?

I like the idea of the pop up browser, but would only use from time to time. For apps asking how to open up a link, I tell them to open using my default browser always because that's how I want to view most of the time.
Is there a way to call up the pop up browser on demand from links? I'm thinking if I could long tap a link or double tap a link, it could open the link in the pop up browser. Keep in mind the source of the link could be any app, another browser, G+, Facebook, etc.
I know there is a mod to launch a stand alone popup browser, but I don't think that solves what I am asking about.
The developers of Air Calc have had a floating browser for a long time. They are currently making it available for 4.0+ android devices, i believe. I tried to download it to my Note 2 but it is not yet available.

...or at least offer "open link in popup browser" as a choice...that would have been the right way to implement this, because heck if I'm going to leave the defaults off so that 99.99999% of the time when I click a link destined for a full browser I then have to select "Browser" and then press "Just Once" all to open a simple web page. At the very least they could have put in a checkbox in the app selector box that would select the tapped browser in "Just Once" mode the moment you tap, so you don't have to confirm each time.
Sorry, I don't have a solution, I'm just completely echoing your sentiment about this.
I have a bookmark on the home screen that is defaulted to the pop up browser.
It is the only way I know to get the pop up browser on demand.
I press and hold link, copy url, press home button, hit my bookmark (I renamed pop up), then paste the url.
Hope this helps.
You can set the pop-up browser as default and hit the button on the top left to open the page up in the regular explorer.
Only problem is that this will open the stock browser. Which is frustrating if you usually use a third party browser like me!
Does anybody know how to make the top left button in the pop-up browser open Chrome rather than the stock browse?
That would be nice because I have all my data synced to Chrome.

Mine automatically opens in chrome when I click the top left button without setting anything up, I checked and there are no defaults set for either.

How did you accomplish this? Is there a pop up settings menu to set your default browser?
For everyone, floating browser flux in the play store might be an option.

[Q] Can't go to URL's on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Sorry if this has been asked. Couldn't find threads.
When I click on a URL on Facebook, Twitter, etc., the page simply reloads. I couldn't find any feature in Settings that would effect this. What setting do I need to do to correct this behavior? Thanks!
desktop mode

Have you tried using desktop mode? To use just hit submenu button a list of items will pop up one will have an empty box click on it and a check mark will appear. You are now in desktop mode. This helps run facebook games to, but you might need adobe flash player. Hope this helps. If it does please hit the thanks button.
