[Q] CM7 Move to SD Card? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I must be missing something obvious, but whenever I click "Move to SD card" it seems to work, but I cannot find my applications or any data on my SD Card.
Where are those apps being saved?
I'm using the OOTB CM7 "move to sd" functionality - can anyone confirm this working on their phone?
Thanks,
-Ryan

If your ROM uses an EXT2/3/4 Partition then it is being saved there. Otherwise its usually under /sdcard/data or /sdcard/android/data/.

Yes, I realise that this is a very old thread, but I needed the same info and I've just found out the answer: it the .android_secure folder off the root of the sdcard.

do you mean the new native froyo apps2sd or the old style? if you mean the new one no, the old one you just have to format your ext partition, unless you dont have one, then obviously you would have to format to create a new ext partiton
Thanks for the reply
I ment the native froyo apps2sd......
I have downloaded a few apps to try and none have the option to move to SD card....they are greyed out.
Does this mean they are not updated yet to sent to SD card or maybe i need to use other steps to do this?
Can you tell me a free app that can be used on SD card so i can try please.
Cheers.
i heard theres a problem with either htc's new kernel or the new build of froyo not letting you save apps to a sd card, try leedroids or udk's roms as they use older builds and kernels or try this app see if it works, just set the install location to external
Thanks!
I installed Leedroids rom and installed ModinstallLocation....when i check manage applications, there is option there now to move to sd card but after i click on it....it is still highlighted to move to sd card.
I think it is still installing to phone memory.

the froyo apps2sd is wank to be honest lol it takes as much space on your fone than your sd card, to check its working look in the android secure folder on ur sd card, if there are apk's there its working, you'll be alot better just using the classic version tho

Apps Still taking up space on phone

Hi Everyone,
i currently have a Rooted HTC Desire with DJ Droid V1.2 and froyo. I have setup my SD card partitioned to 512mb. Everytime i install an app to the SD card or even move it to the SD card, it still takes up the full space on the phone. For example i had 116mb free on my internal storage then after installing fennic (takes up 18.51mb) i had 97.80mb left so it took up 18.19mb out of a 18.51mb install.
Am i doing something wrong? can anyone advise?

Dalvik cache and data will still be on the internal memory, only the physical app will get moved to sd card.

ok fair enough but look at how little space is actually being stored on the sd card (0.32mb) Are you saying that the app is only 0.32mb and 18.51mb of that app is data? by the way ive never used this app so i dont know how it has 18.51mb of data.

ok i prob picked a bad app as an example i was just trying to get something with a large install. i tried it with another few apps after partitioning my sd card and it seems to work fine. Thanks man.
Just one question. what is app2sd for? is that the routed version of what froyo has? it only lists like 2 apps to be able to move. which one moves the apps to the ext partition, app2sd or applications (in system menu)?

Not all apps will have the ability to "move to sd" on froyo, however with "apps2sd+" or "ext apps2sd" everything will be saved onto the ext parition of the sd card.
So since i have app2sd already preinstalled on the djdroid rom, i already see all my apps are movable to the SD card. is that correct? or are just most apps movable anyway
app2SD doesnt MAKE all YOUR APPS MOVABLE. It just alerts you when an app is movable.

Two things!
1. Why resurrect a thread that is nearly 3 months old?
2. If someone is using Apps2SD with an EXT partition, everything is already installed on the EXT partition and so is already on the SD card. There's no point "moving" it to SD since all you'd be doing is shifting it from the EXT partition to the FAT32 partition!

[Noob]Please help!!!

I just bought a new 16g SD card. I want to transfer all of my stuff from the 8g to the 16g. Is there anything special that I need to do or can I just copy everything and put it on the 16g. I don't have any apps on my SD card, maybe a few apk files off the internet, and a few of my NAND backups, and a few from my back up pro.
No need to do anything special, just select all the files and copy them over!
Now if I were using app2sd would that change anything? Because I was reading on another thread that it had to be done in Linux?
??? you say.. no apps are on the sdcard.. then you ask about apps2sd..
are you useing Froyo's feature to move the apps to sdcard?
Just copy to the other card without anything special. Simple task, it should not cause any problems with apps2sd either

"if I were" meaning I am not but if I was using it. The only reason I asked was because I was reading about it on another thread, just wanted a little info that's all.

If you DID have apps on the phone all you would need to do is move them back to the phone via Manage Applications in settings. Assuming you were using Froyo Apps2SD.
You should also make sure you don't have anything stored in any partitions on your card. You may not have partitions on your card.but it's worth checking out.
Other than that it is just copy and paste and you'll be golden.

Titanium Backup problem: no option to "Move to SD Card"

I have unlock the bootloader, rooted the phone, and installed custom recovery following this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201148
still running stock rom at the moment.
I installed Titanium Backup Pro, and wanted to move some apps that I don't use often to SD card, but cannot find the option from Titanium menu anymore.
What I found out is that Titanium uses the external directory "sd-ext/app" for moving the apps from internal to external memory.
However, my current SD card is mounted as ext_card and also sdcard1?? I don't know why both of these directories point to the same location, is it something that Sony assigns? or is it how Android is configured right now?
Anyhow, I just want to know if simply renaming the folder ext_card to sd-ext would work?
If not, how can I remount the sd card as sd-ext without affecting other things that are already linked to it?
Thanks.
edit: admin, please move to the appropriate section.
found a work-around.
Just use root browser to create a short cut of "sdcard1", then rename it to sd-ext.
that's it!

I've been trying and trying and TRYING to accomplish your solution, yet I'm not able to modify any files or folders in the internal storage. When I try to do so by any means, my device freezes the app trying to create new files (in this case Root Browser, but it happens with anything else like ES Browser, apps, desktop applications, etc).
I just CAN'T write to the internal storage even if my device is rooted. I've tried to solve this but I just CAN'T. I don't know what else to do.
Any help is appreciated beforehand
THANKS!!

[Q] SD Card as main/default storage

Hi, can I use SD Card as default storage? How? I have a 64 GB SD Card, but every App/Games data is in external storage(which have only 10 GB, and now it is full), when I move Android folder from external storage to SD card, every game stops working, because can't find data and try downloading it again to external storage. I try several app for moving to the SD card, but without luck, Is there any solution? Thank you.
app removed sorry
Why would you think that just moving an app's data would be okay? How on earth would the app know where you moved its files to?
Have you tried Apps2SD?

Yes, without luck. I move it to the SD card, but its same as when I do it with file explorer, game canť find data and trying downloading it again..
Are you running a custom ROM? I thought from your signature you were on Viper. Then I realized its not a Viper version number (7.0.0) that applies to this phone.
I think the SD card fix needs to be applied for Apps2SD to work, but most (if not all) custom ROMs should already have the SD card fix implemented.
