Hi Guys,
I was wondering if anybody here has used any of the custom roms that offer 44khz sound in the video recording app.
I'm currently using the stock froyo 2.2 and am getting good battery life after disabling network data and sync. So the rom will need to be as good or better.
I was using Insertcoin 2.0.0 A2SD+ for a while, before switched to data++ (same Rom, with some internal memory tweaks).
Fast, battery life was better than stock (thanks to the modified kernel) - 44 khz sound works except in 720p (Gingerbread based Roms will have 44khz in 720p).
Sounds good, so what datarate does insertcoin offer in 720p, is it that ****ty 8khz crap?
Also, what is data++ like compared to insertcoin, what audio sample rates are offered on data++?
Yes, in 720p it is that 8khz recording sound.
Data++ compared to A2SD+ shortly:

So, phone feels smoother than with A2SD+. But also it requires your phone to be S-OFF and having a custom NAND partiton table.
P.S.: There are already good Gingerbread ROMs in the developement thread with 720p and 44 khz (as I heard). But I'll wait a few weeks, till they will be perfected

I just got a Tilt 2 and was wondering if the cooked ROMs offered any improvements to video playback. In addition, does anyone know what the optimal settings on Coreplayer are? I tried converting a 720p (h.264) mkv video to 800x450 AVI format but noticed a bit of lag. When I tried converting to MP4 it was unwatchable. I also tried an AVI video encoded with 848 x 480 (h.264) without converting and that was pretty much a slideshow..
Thanks.
Custom ROMs absolutely give better Core playback than the stock ATT ROM. I've flashed to one of the Energy ROMs (details in my signature) and the cooked-in TCPMP is much smoother, and seems to be able to play more of my videos (at least many more of them are watchable) than when I was using the stock ROM, and Coreplayer. I don't know if the player itself was tweaked, or if its just the lighter program memory footprint of the ROM. But the difference is pretty satisfying.
I did have to do a fair amount of tweaking while I was still on the stock ROM to get Core to work decently. It made many of my videos watchable, but some still stuttered and not watchable. Shutting down any other apps that are running, and doing a CleanRAM sweep seem to help a bit also.
I didn't take note of the Core settings I was using on the stock ROM, but here are my setting on the Energy ROM:
Options>Video
Select "GDI"
Options>Settings>Buffering
Normal buffer size: 4992
Preload at underrun: 5%
Preload for audio: 128kb
Microdrive unchecked.
Much appreciated, I will give it a try.

i have the same energy rom of may 16 but 23569 build n my core player default settings r totally different,i wonder y
Flashed to Energy 23569 June 2nd. Unfortunately it lags just as much even with those combination of settings. What is the best format to convert to that the tilt 2 can handle?
Thanks again.
Hi, I've been using the DeFrost and CM ROMs and I notice that their camera app records 720p videos at 30fps. Does any Sense ROMs manage to do that?
hi Malaysian, well Sense ROM can get close to 30fps, but not there, basically because of limitations within the "Sense" itself, that's why CM,DF and OD chose to abandon "Sense" and go open source ROM
A month back, OD/CM were no better than HTC 2.2. I used to run these three. In the recorded vid, except the bit rates, there was hardly a difference. All managed 27-29FPS average and 10-11FPS lows. So how do you say 30FPS fixed... Rumors?

I should clarify. It "looks" 30fps with rather good framerates. So you guys are saying that AOSP camcorder and Sense camcorder is virtually the same?

I can't speak for others but there is definitely no noticeable difference between the video output in my experience of ~3months. The Sense ROM cam has options and UI unmatched on the AOSP ROMs though.

Hi folks,
I have been using Leedroid 2.2.3 till now and vidoe playback has been superb. I now tried a few GB roms - a stock rooted one, and Leedroid 3.03, and both play back video poorly (I'm talking about downloaded tv shows etc). Sound goes out of sync, and the picture gets jerky.
Is anyone else finding this? Are all GB roms like this? Its a shame because audio quality is alot better with GB than Froyo.
Gary.
Just gonna give this a little bump. No one else having video playback issues with GB ROMs?
Is there any GB rom that can record 720p video at 30 fps with normal flow (like the 800x480 option), no jerkiness and artifacts ?
I ve tried so far Leedroid 3.8.0.2, some builds of insertcoin and rcmixS but all of them had out of sync audio or artifacts and totally unacceptable quality.
Is there also any possibility that this could be fixed with the official HTC GB release ?
Thanks in advance.
Just to point out and throw it out there, our camera can't really do 720p, not the quality anyway. Just keep trying roms or knock it on the head.
Tried a couple ROMs - bottom line - no quality (like you need) 720p for the Desire.
Ok I got the point, thanks for your answers. Let's hope that HTC will do something about it in the forthcoming update.
I'd love to have panorama and HDR, I tried a ROM last month that had the options (I think it was a sense ROM) but they didn't work well and it force-closed sometimes, etc.
I've also found that some of the newer android version ROMs seem to lack either H.264 or 720p video.
Front-facing camera is nice to have, but even the ROMs with that seem to suck for Skype.
Help!
You can download both of them from the play store... I have both and they work great..

Why is that? What binary blob needs reverse-engineered?

wait, that's not true. I'm running cyanogenMod 6.2.1 and I have 720 video
how jerky is it? (i dont just mean playback on the phone itself, i mean no matter what device you play it back on. in other words, when i use AOSP cameras at 720p, there is jerkiness baked into the output. stutter, judder, jerkiness, dropped frames, insufficient fps, call it what you want, motion portrayal is poor especially during slow pans.)

hmm, yeah i guess it is a little jerky.
Well thanks for the link in your sig, got that ROM running now and it seems like a keeper
Well, ok, if you're serious about all this, I will add that changing your scheduler to BFQ is probably the single best improvement you can make to videocam recording smoothness. You'll need a kernel that supports this. Almost any custom kernel will. If you're going to use the ROM in my sig (the Captain's 5.07 stock ROM) I would recommend the "Underworld" kernel. If you're running a AOSP ROM , I'm not as familiar with those choices (although I would recommend Reloaded anyway, and the "Mason" kernel included with it supports BFQ already, even if it isn't optimal for general, non-videocam performance). Note you'll have to do additional research on how to *activate* the BFQ scheduler even once you have a kernel that supports it. Or maybe you knew all this. But others may be interested. Happy searching..
used hdr camera + with cm7.2 (nightlies) and worked pretty fantastic. Def considered it better quality than stock camera and here is my disclaimer im not a photo buff... lol
In my opinion the Sense Rom Cameras look better. I've probably ran just about every rom on the OG EVO and that is what I have noticed.
