ever since I updated to 2.2, no matter what rom I'm using..performance has been so poor compared to 2.1. I wish I never updated. My battery runs out quick, temperature goes up to 100F even when idle and my phone hangs every time I turn on wifi. Hopefully I find out a solution soon, i've been flashing and uninstalling roms all day these past two days. I love the phone though don't get me wrong =\
That sounds quite odd.
Are you using an unmodified SBF, or are you using a release where the author/publisher has made a lot of changes? When having problems, it may be best to stick to one release and try to narrow down your problems, instead of trying many different releases and introducing new variables into the mix.
Are you overclocking your phone - perhaps it's causing the rise in temperature? Or are you running a lot of widgets? There may be some widgets that use the system too aggressively, causing too much strain/heat.
Hi! Did you do "wipe" before and after flashing?
That is very odd. I am on Froyo and performance has been phenomenal ever since the flash.
I agree with naenee, check the ROM you're flashing...
i flashed the UK 3.4.2-117 and right now using Pay's 2.1 rom. I remember that I did wipe data/cache before flashing and after flashing. IDK, im just not having problem's with this particular rom..it seems like it happens on all the other ones im trying. I get random freezes and especially when I toggle on wifi. I recently installed setVEL and will see if battery improves, this means i don't need milestone right? I'm also using setCPU.
I might try to flash 3.4.2_131-003 PL version. Will it cause any trouble and can I go back down to UK 3.4.2-117?
Seeing as it uses the same kernel, you should be able to do so...

I have been using the orange 2.2 for several days and no specific problem is noted.
well I reinstalled pays rom first and everything is working good. No more hang ups or freezes but I still can't get the battery to last as long.My phone is mostly idled, running on 2G, just one widget, and everything in settings turned down to the least minimal settings..im talking about battery saver, screen brightness all the way down..everything off! 6 hours in and im already on 70%. I can live with that but I'm using setVsel and I know it could do better. Anyone know another way I can make my battery last longer?
I'm running Pays latest rom based on the UK 3.4.2 and it runs great. I'm also using setvsel (as every defy user should) and optimized all my vsels ([email protected], [email protected], [email protected]) using stability test. I haven't had a 'normal' day of use yet, but with heavy use (installing apps, web browsing, flashing rom) I've gotten at least a full day (~15 hrs) out of a charge.
I recommend minimizing your vsels using setvsel, then judging your battery life. Check out the setvsel thread for more help.

And remember this is a smart phone, some people report getting 2 to 3 days of use out of it. That's basically idle time tho. These new smart phones are just that, and use much more battery than the Dumbphone.

Even if that's the case (and I dispute it, I use my phone a fair amount in the ~3 days the battery averages), it still doesn't explain why the OP's phone is dropping 30% in 6 hours while idling.
When I updated to froyo, my battery life went from about 15 hours of use to 21 hours between charges. So I'm thinking the op has an app doing the draining.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
Unfortunately, this is a characteristic of Android.... Ridiculously inconsistent in the battery department.
Wife's phone is on official froyo, has been amazing since updated (a few weeks ago) but since yesterday some weird reason it's been super glitchy and freezing up. Not sure why...haven't changed anything to it and she's only downloaded an app or two (such as pandora) in the last couple days...I was playing around with it trying to figure out what was up...can't figure it out. I went into titanium backup to freeze some apps thinking maybe some blur crap was freezing it up but TB froze up so I can't even get in there. Also, same as OP, the battery has been heating up really quick lately, especially when on wifi.
Not sure what's up here...but I'm hoping nothing serious! Will keep you all updated on this...we'll see if there is a trend going on here.

check your cpu usage... if it's constantly arround 99%, you may experience the "usb-plug/unplug"-bug.
try enabling usb debug and restart your phone.

I would rather say it is a characteristic of people using android, to have widely different usage patterns, causing differences in how long a charge lasts for each.
Hi there. Have you tried to recalibrate the battery? There is an app on the marke called Battery Calibrator. From what I understand if you play with roms the battery can give you problems so it need to be calibrated again. I hope this can help.
For those interested... I'm having a problem, I don't know yet if it's a bug or a hardware defect.
My phones wastes A LOT of battery while it should be suspended.
I've tracked the problem to, apparently, Motorola's SIM driver. From what I've discovered so far, the SIM isn't accepting the suspend state and therefore the "suspend" process uses too much CPU time... all of this when the phone is, supposedly, saving battery.
As I can't get a motorola engineer involved, I can't say for sure if this is the true cause... but it's the closer I've got to a diagnostic, so far.
Your problem might or not be related to this, but if you're interested about what I've found or what my kernel log looks like so you can compare with your own problem... this is the thread at motorola's owner forum:

Hi,
Im trying to get a bit of rock ´n roll out of my Defy+ thru serious overclocking,
im running MS2Ginger 3.0 at the moment that doesnt seem to be the perfect rom for getting great speeds, but it works.
Been running 1350Mhz for a while which seems to work rather good, going to 1400 makes my Defy more sluggish than a led slug. So that doesnt work, atleast not for what i can see.
The problem i see is when running Quadrant benchmarks, i only get numbers around 300 on the 2D test, is that normal?
Can someone tell me about a rom that could make me roll even faster and higher up in the result lists of Quadrant benchmark?
Regards.
So 214 views and nobody knows anything? Sounds impoosible on this forum
Don't know much about fast ROMs but everybody brags about CM7, of course. Also there are some people who claim Mokee os (CM7 Based) is the fastest. Check them out and let us know what you find out
Anyway, they say Quadrant isn't everything.

Ok they say the Defy is a rugged phone but hell knows if that would be healthy for it. But as they say it aint the speed that kills its suddenly coming to a stop that kills so maybe i should go for a try
I recommend setting max and min to 1350 and also performance governor, on v6 supercharger before benching run an enginge flush and kill all apps using process manager except quadrant
DEFYing the Android planet with ICS
Ok i´ll try that V6 thingie but before that i thought i would tell what i have noticed so far.
MS2Ginger stayed around 1900 score on Quadrant with a top of 2100.
CyanogenMod seems to stay around 2400 with a peak of 2501 so far.
CyanogenMod seems to be better on the hardware tests except on the graphical parts where it seems to drop a couple of FPS, Anyone know any good
advice to maximize the graphical parts of CM?
A fun thing to notice is that with the original settings and MS2Ginger i achieved a score of 1350 and now riding around 2500, pretty nice.
One down thou with CM is that i woke up this morning without a statusbar and when the alarm went off i couldnt shut it off except for rebooting the phone.

Ok now im un-supercharged again, either i did something very wrong or that script only worked in the wrong direction on my Defy+. Installed it and ended up running 1700 - 1800 scores on Quadrant, uninstalled it and is now back to 2300, dont know where the last 100 - 200 points ended up, will do some more tests before moving on to the Mokee OS rom.
Have a safe day/evening
I jujst wanted to say that im in no way is trying to put down the MS2Ginger developers work, this is just me and personal opinions in the hunt for a better performing Defy+
Cheers
in my opinion, oc-ing the defy to over 1.2ghz makes no sense and it only damages your cpu in the long run. i think that managing your ram gives a lot smoother experience than oc-ing your phone, because the only apps that dont run smooth on this little beauty are hd games, but they were never intended to. im using ram manager pro from market (play store), try it, maybe it helps!

Yeah, got a major issue: My Defy+ is overheating and I usually end up with a blocked phone, which ends up being useless for about 4-5 hours. And it's becoming more often.
I have 2.3.4 on it, but I seriously doubt 2.3.6 solves this issue.
Any tips?

Try custom ROM's and DO NOT flash 2.3.6 full sbf as it's quite buggy and you'll be stuck with it.
You could also try to undervolt the CPU. In what conditions do you get an overheated phone?

How could I do that?
Also, I get it for no reason whatsoever. It gets overheated and that's it. I left it to cool about 4 God damn hours, and yet when I open it it works a bit, then it gets stuck. It's as if the memory isn't well processed.
To give ya an example, I left it over night and even charged it. Everything went fine. Then, got to school, got a break, wanted to listen to a song. Fine, listened to a song. A guy wanted to waste some time on Opera Mini with his Ikariam game. Fine, let him waste that 1 tab and browse online.
But then, when he gave it to me it was stuck.
Wait a lot of time to stop it via Android's button, did it eventually. Left it to cool 2 hours, tried again. Again, after less than 3 minutes of usage (wanted to share a file via bluetooth, but got to the folder only) it got stuck again. This time it was pointless, 30 minutes later I wasn't able to stop it so I took the battery off.
I kinda don't know if I should change it or still have faith in it.
Right now stuff seems worse. Sometimes it reboots itself, but that doesn't help with anything IMO.
BTW, would the 1% battery patch help? Might put that 720p functionality in there as well.
As Auris said, try flashing a custom ROM (CM7.2 is a good choice, stable and fast enough). For undervolting (if you are on a stock ROM only - because CM7 has a built-in CPU manager, accessible from the bootmenu) ), install SetVsel from the Play Store. Like PC overclocking/undervolting, be careful about the values you choose. You'll find a thread in the General section about SetVsel values.
If these ideas don't help you solve your problem, I think it might be hardware related.
Trimis de pe Defy CM9
My defy+ gets really hot on just about everything except stock! Undervolting didn't help, nor underclocking. Putting it in the fridge temporarily helped, but when I started using it again the temp climbed again!
What should I do? :-/
Sent from my Defy+ using Tapatalk 2 Beta
Well, since you flashed custom ROMs (unlike the OP), how about the baseband? I remember that when I flashed CM7 for the first time I didn't get 3G signal and the phone was overheating because the signal was too poor for the baseband that I used. Switched between a few and finally managed to get one with good signal and 2G/3G/3.5G working fine.
I never use 3G, so I've never bothered changing it. By the way... what are the differences between basebands with the same frequencies?
Could flashing a different kernel solve it?
Sent from my Defy+ using Tapatalk 2 Beta
Well, there are different regions - I don't know the technical details, but maybe some basebands work better with certain network operators. It's a trial&error method, you could choose one that works better or one that performs worse.
Regarding the kernel: I have no idea about the heat dissipation, but from what I've read there is a GB kernel that supposedly has better battery life. Ask Auris, he uses it (it's the kernel by walter79).
Okay, seems the issue solved itself, since now it works perfectly :|
I didn't play a game, which was kinda retarded: low quality, a simple Android game, and playing Temple Run/Angry Birds/ Angry Birds Space didn't give you me any issue.
I don't get it.
I know for a fact the phone gets hot when playing some games like Asphalt 7 and that is understandable but it never used to get hot while in regular use such as browsing the web or text messaging on stock and i could have the screen on for an hour. Ever since i installed CM10 and now on AOKP by task650 I have noticed the bottom half of the phone gets very warm even when doing simple things. I have the brightness set to auto at all times and within 15 minutes or so it starts to get hot.
Does this happen to anyone else or its just me? Also maybe there is a tweak for the screen in the ROM?
How long has it been since you installed these AOSP roms. In my experience, it takes one or two days for everything to settle down after installation, during which the phone might overheat and battery life takes a hit. My advice would be to give it some time, but if you're really worried, try fixing permissions or even going back to a touchwiz ROM.

I am having the same problem with CM10. I have tried multiple nightlies with the stock CM10 kernel and my phone just seems to run warmer. I can't figure it out. When I flash back to the stock ROM it doesn't do it unless like you said, I am playing Asphalt or some other games.
Nah not worried because i have extended warranty on my phone. Its just i like my electronics to function the way they should and when they don't i HAVE to fix them or i will loose my mind, plus its kinda annoying when hold it.
I know it needs a few charge cycles and installed CM earlier this week so its been at least 3 days, but still noticed the phone heating up. I installed AOKP today and will try cycling the battery a few times.
Pardon my ignorance but why would fixing permissions have anything to do with this? Also there is no negative effects to doing this? I don't see any as it wil just mark everything rwx-r--r-- or whatever the default is, but just want to confirm.

I was thinking it maybe the CM kernel, would you mind flashing Kooz kernel? If you have CM for a few days. I still testing AOKP so might be a while before i can flash.
The bottom of mine gets real hot after about 15 minutes of browsing on LTE. It did it right out of the box, and I'm on stock.

Fixing permissions tends to remedy certain glitches on my end. I don't nearly have enough knowledge to tell you why though. However, there are certain aspects of this phone that will lead to heat production no matter what you do: lte chip; powerful dual core CPU, etc. Furthermore, aosp ROMs are not stable nor are they fully optimized for the phone at this point, this will also lead to more resources being spent, which ultimately results in faster heat production. If it really bothers you, stick to what works and flash a stock ROM.

You need to flash one of the AOSP JB kernels since you are on CM10. I can't tell you which one because that depends on which nightly you have installed. I guess there was major code changes after the 14th.

Yeah but it never did that with stock and its not a deal breaker i love AOKP no way am i flashing back to touchwiz. You know the ROM has been so stable that I expected everything to work but your right its not stable yet and some things are probably not optimized and that is the cause for the phone to heat up more then usual or kernel. Guess it can't hurt to make a nandroid and then fix permissions and if it goes south i have a backup:victory:

Yeah, to my understanding, chipsets are designed to withstand a heat threshold of about 60 degrees Celsius. It is extremely hard to get it to that temp at stock speeds, so I wouldn't worry too much about something going awry with your phone.

It seemed a bit better today, but then i been out all day and its been wet and cold so might not have noticed. Its not Task's kernel but rather Kooz but they do work together. Can you also keep an eye on battery life? his kernel is suppose to have amazing battery life and CM/AOKP for me have very bad battery life. Also make sure to cycle the battery at least 3 time.
NOTE: Battery cycling mean charging it to 100% and letting it die to 0% and repeating, this will calibrate the battery and maybe will help.
Just a recommendation for you to give AOKP a try. I always used CM, but CM had some bugs when i tried so i thought might as well give AOKP a try and its actually been solid and has more features then CM. Best part is the build in LED configuration for apps/notifications.
These devs make it so hard to choose, both are very good ROMS.
Yeah. That's a problem I have too. I can't decide which one I want. The KT 747 kernel has seemed to take care of my heat problems. I was cycling the battery anyways. Where can I get the AOKP ROM? Is it posted under original development? The 747 kernel also gave me some much better benchmark scores!
Edit - I see in ktweaker where you can change some voltages but I have NO clue about any of that! Any advice? I think there is a thread on here somewhere about it. I'll have to find it & read it I guess.

Pfft! You should know at this point in the game that benchmarks mean nothing, its all about real world performance. Basically I'd just start playing around its the only way to learn what works and what doesn't on your device! Cause afterall every device is different no 2 chips are the same, what works on one device might not work on another

Hi Guys
Well i have install several ROMS wich as HO!NO! full throtlle, Cyanogenmod 9 an 10 stables and Nigthly edition, JellyBam and others that i not even remember and all of them always in some point they just reboots and im really hate it. I use wakelocks app and it works for a few days but eventually it reboot and he battery drain really fast, 8hours in EDGE and just a little chatting on whatsapp and a few calls.
i always wipe system, datvilks etc, im kind of new on this stuuuf but i think im doing it correctly.
Im starting to think that maybe its a hadware problem. Onces i ask some crappy tech gay in a store and he told me that i should buy another battery i dont know why, i thought that he just want to sell me the battery but i dont know.
Can anyone help me or recomend a ROM or something?
I just want a ROM that doesnt reboot and good battery life and i can do normal stuff. i dont care about overclocking or anything like that,
Thanks in advance
I would install a stock rom, either stock AT&T gingerbread or ICS for the Nitro and see if it still reboots. If it does, I think you have a hardware problem.

This will make sure you are 100% stock. Then if you are still having issues you know that it is a hardware problem. Just make sure you do a full wipe after install.

I've also noticed lately that my Nitro sometimes randomly reboots. I run with the CM10 Nightlies. The other day, after installing a new nightly, it was really bad, almost constantly rebooting. I took out the battery, removed the SD card and let it sit for awhile (like 1/2 hour or so). Then I put everything back together, reinstalled the nightly and it's MUCH MORE stable now (still randomly reboots, but the instances are much less).
Give that a try and see if it helps at all.
Good luck!
Hi All!
I have LG P936 Optimus true hd with vodafone v20c firmware.
It`s regularly several spontaneous reboots per day. I saved logs with one reboot
03-13 17:03:41.993 F/libc ( 417): Fatal signal 11 (SIGSEGV) at 0x00000001 (code=1)
03-13 17:03:42.404 I/DEBUG (10445):

how it can be solved? Help please!
My solution has been to just stick with Gingerbread.. No rebooting, good battery life even with the stock battery, runs all the apps I need.
I do miss ics/jellybean, but I rather have a stable phone with great battery life than a pretty, unstable bleeding edge phone.
If anyone wants to build an awesome gingerbread/ics hybrid.. Then I am down. Lol.

Can you tell what happened based on the logs?
two P930s (NItro HD), one with hardware issues
I have two P930s. One of them is much more sensitive to ROM settings and I find I need to limit the CPU to 1200 Mhz or so to prevent random reboots.
The other one works well at full 1500 Mhz speed. This particular model seems to have inconsistent hardware build quality. It makes me reluctant to try any other LG devices (a relative has an LG dishwasher that has also been troublesome, with random shutdowns and error codes).
possible causes
1 - bad sd card
2 - bad flash
3 - unstable recovery .
for me , i have noticed the same , and found it fixed once i upgraded my recovery
1 - bad sd card
its rebooting without sd card
2 - bad flash
its rebooting on two v20c firmware what I used
3 - unstable recovery .
I use official kdz firmware only, not cwm
I' ve got the same problem. I've changed the sd card but it didn't work.
Similar issues here with a Nitro that a friend let me borrow while I'm waiting for parts for my other phone. Random reboots on several different ROM's including stock.
I'm going to try Kernel Tuner and up the voltage a little and see if the phone is more stable. wistlo mentioned limiting the CPU to 1200 Mhz and I think he may be on the right track. If the processor cannot handle being clocked to 1500, which is stock, then a common method (at least with PC's) is to either lower the Mhz or increase the voltage. Or both.
I just tried this a few minutes ago and I'll report back later.

My phone was still unstable. I decided to try a stock Gingerbread ROM and it seems to run very, very well.

Yeah, i remember downgrading to GB to root, didn't use it muchzbut it never once rebooted.
Bought mine last week on ebay brand new (packages sealed and everything), i let it fully charged and started using it.
Came with stock ICS and has been constantly rebooting for the past week.
If i didn't live overseas and didn't have to pay so much money to clear through customs here i would have returned it, but i'm stuck with it and searching for help.
Funny thing is i've gamed on it for hours straight and stability tests for more than 2 hrs and it never rebooted. Then i'll whip out the keyboard to type a message or install an app on play store...or simple web browsing and BAM!....reboots
I've changed to 3 SD Cards even tried without it, still reboots.
All wireless signals off, reboot.
Different ROMS/Kernels, factory reset/wipe, Battery cover off, diff. governors I/Os, Underclocks & Overvolts, tried it all....except going back to GB.
It kind of irks me to know that i came from a GB phone to upgrade to a "new" phone that can only run on GB stable.
It always crashes during some really "stressLESS" stuff, lol. CPU scaling problem maybe?
Also, with no SD Card installed and on boot i get a "SD Card damaged. Try Reformatting" error. Is it normal to get this error with no SD installed?

This definitely makes me think you've got a CPU scaling problem. If you're doing something consistent, like playing a game or stress testing...The CPU will likely stay at a single frequency...But in your case, once you start doing some other activity (which very likely caused a CPU frequency change), the reboot occurs.
Definitely try installing SetCPU and set both the minimum and maximum frequency to something midrange, like 1.2GHz. This way you're locking the phone to a single value (no scaling) and not the max frequency so you won't overload it. Then do what you usually do when it reboots and If the phone stays stable, you'll know the problem is likely an issue with CPU frequency scaling. If it still reboots, at least you've removed one possible reason from the list.

It was suggested in another thread that setting the governor to conservative 486 min 1404 max fixed the BSOD, so I tried it and haven't had a single reboot since I posted the last time. I was lucky if I got 30 min before trying it out.
I agree with you, definitely seems to be CPU scaling issue.
Conservative gradually increases the speed compared to the massive min to max spikes you'd get with ondemand.
I will try that with CM10.1 Rc2 with Wind Kernel. I got a few reboot when using my Calendar app for example, while low on battery.

Tell me, plz, how can I do that? Now I have old 5.8.0.2 recovery. But since I dumped old 8Gb Sandisk and inserted 16Gb Sandisk I now had no reboots. But I want new recovery nonetheless
