I have 2.59 Indian defy , I have following questions about flashing
1. Can I revert back to stock 2.59 fw after flashingg to 2.2/2.3 ? So if official update will available there will not be any problem.
2. If yes please post link of downgradable method.
3. Whats the differance
Nandroid backup & sbf & fixed sbf?
4. Are nandrroid backup /sbf/ fixed sbf different for every defy?
Thank you.....
Sorry,i am also a noob for defy. And can you tell me where to edit my personal XDA profile
sent from DEFY noob
1. yes you can.
2. You need to go into recovery, install the nandroid backup of 2.59 and flash the 2.59 sbf.
3. Not sure, though they are same for 2.51 & 2.59
Why would you want to go back to Company firmware anyways... I have Barebones 1.5 which is way better than the company firmware, is much faster (my quadrant score is 1600+), has none of the moto bloatware, everything is very stable...?
And by the looks of it, by the time Moto releases 2.2 in India, 2.3.3 will already be available here (courtesy Quarx's excellent work..!)
Thanks mate....just installed cwm & 2nd init recovery...now confused between barebones or cyanogen 2.3..

yeah you can do it
I'd say go with the Barebones 1.5.1, it is a very stable ROM, CM7 still has some niggling issues...
I've been on Barebones 1.4 onwards and I am totally loving it... OC'ed my phone to 300/700/1100 and it is rock solid stable....

I am new to the Android phone, and I purchase the Defy on last sunday, I like this phone and those function, but I am thinking to upgrade the firmware to 2.2, the salesman say it can be download 2.2 OTA at April, but after a week and there is still nothing.
So now I am thinking upgrade to CM7, one question, after installed the CM7, can it downgrade to the original 2.2 OTA?
Also I am focusing to the Hotspot feature. Is it work fine?
my phone version is
2.59.0.MB525.Retail.n.CH18
firmware version
2.1 update1
Yes, i have done that tomorrow. I don't like some modifications that i was used to, in the contact list, that have changed in the CM7. I'm gonna wait to another version to see if will get better what i want.
it seems like cm7 is still in beta-mode if i was u i would wait untill a stable verison comes out
If you don't want to be flashing fixes every other day i recommend not going with CM7. It runs great for light usage but it has many issues for now.
I recommend going with a 2.2 rom like my EphuNord. It is a clean Blurless 2.2 rom with a few modifications to allow easy themeing. I also uploaded around 8 themes.
If you follow the correct procedures you can always downgrade as far as 2.1 again if you need to.
thx for information, but which is the most stable for 2.2? I saw some post that some rom are not compatible?! Any recommandation? I want 2.2 or above.
I am lost on upgrade or not.
I want to update to ephnord 2.2
But want to downgrade back to 2.1
I am 2.51 uk(the phone came with it)

For Now 2.2 will be a better choice as the CM7 is its beta phases so let it come as a stable build...
N dude make sure while upgrading from 2.1 to 2.2 you does not lose ur downgradability and for that use the excellent work from fritolays so that u can downgade back to ur original firmware just by flashing 2.1 firmware of ur choice back...
Were can i find fritolays`s work, thanks in advance mate.

If you're newbie (or just want to use phone, not patch it every day), then better 2.2
fritolays's work here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=977989
EphuNord is also good choise for you. They both based on latest official leaked 2.2 and very stable.
Thank u so much

Now that my defy has an official froyo
I want to know if it is possible to move to different froyos by flashing full sbf
and if it is possible to go back to the official froyo with out the nandroid+FIXED sbf method.
Thanxx in advance
Hi.
I have the same question in principle.
Recently i flashed my defy through MSU to Blur_Version.34.177.3.MB525.Retail.en.xx (DACH). But I found out that there is no russian swype. I want to root one and install swype ver. 3.
Question. If i don't like this build i could flash another official SBF (Moto_Version.34.179.2.MB525.Retail.en.CEE) where russian swype is?
Can i flash SBF over?
Can i change build in the same version Froyo 2.2.2?
Can anyone help us?? Please

Yes..you can flash any sbf you like.
well make sure that you have the official sbf with you.(save it on your computer for future use). You can install the official froyo sbf whenever you want.
I would suggest you to try the latest CM7.It is awesome
Thanks it worked now i have miui working flawlessly except for some language issues!!!
Good news to hear coz I'm also on Froyo.....
but I read too many and become more blur... My Defy is official SEA15 2.2.2 / 34.30.3301 (Build JEM_3.4.3-33-1). Can somebody tell me the different between flashing full sbf compare to nandroid+fixed sbf? From my understanding, flashing full sbf is upgrading (2.1-->2.2). Nandroid+fixed sbf is for returning to official ROM after moving to different ROMs (CM7-->Froyo 2.2). Pls correct me if I'm wrong...
During MSU update via pc, there will be a sbf file at C:\Program Files\Motorola\Software Update\. Is that full sbf file?
What is the different between my own nandroid backup compare to nandroid upload by others? Can I return to my offical ROM with myownNandroid+fixed sbf?
To make nandroid, I need to root Defy. For warranty purpose, will flashing Nandroid+fixed sbf act as Defy unroot?
I'm planning to get CM7, but there are too many versions. Which one is best and stable? (info : my Defy is green lens...)
Thanks in advance

You said you followed the forum for two month already?
You should have stumbled upon the cyanogenmod 7 faq thread by now.
There you will find all instructions you need...
I agree with "puked" read the awsome cm7 FAQ !!
sorry for my bad english
Julian
My way (another take other...) :
- download 3.4.2 177-005 Nordic Deblur SBF on PC
- enter stock recovery on Defy
- wipe data/cache
- reboot Defy into bootloader
- launch RSDLite on PC
- connect Defy to PC
- flash 3.4.2 177-005 Nordic Deblur SBF
- launch SuperOneClick on PC
- root your Defy
- install ClockWorkMod on Defy
- download cm7-110729-0115-BOOT179-Jordan.zip on PC
- copy it on SD
- download cm7-110809-0713-NIGHTLY-Jordan.zip on PC
- copy it on PC
- enter custom recovery on Defy
- wipe cache
- wipe Dalvik cache
- apply cm7-110729-0115-BOOT179-Jordan.zip
- reboot your Defy
- re-enter custom recovery on Defy
- re-wipe cache
- re-wipe Dalvik cache
- apply cm7-110809-0713-NIGHTLY-Jordan.zip
- re-reboot your Defy
- that's all !
I hope it helps you
Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot :
- BEFORE ALL, READ THE CM7 FAQ AND THE 1000 PAGES OF [DEV][ROM]CM7 THREAD !!!
PS : I wipe cache and Dalvik cache before any CM7 nightly update; perhaps not necessary but I never had problems... It's my choice...
i m already on cm7 with the help of faqs and cm7 thread, i did not applied nightly, what i m missing without the nightly and do i apply nihgtly after about a week of flashing cm7,
thanks in advance
Nightlies are for members who want help devs by testing beta.
If you don't want that and are happy with your RC1v2, don't flash nightly...
If you are agree with the terms of nightlies, you can apply the lastest (cm7-110809-0713-NIGHTLY-Jordan.zip, it's stable) via custom recovery (ZIP from SD, not update ZIP...) after a wipe cache and wipe Dalvik cache.
I have applied pretty much every other nightly since 110715 and haven't had any issues. For me they are as stable as RC1, actually better (e.g. camera). I am currently on the latest nightly 110809-0713.
+1
Agree with you, more stable !
Where do you see the 110809 nightly?
defy.tanguy.tk/jordan-nightly only shows up to 110808?
No, in my browser, defy.tanguy.tk/jordan-nightly and defycm7.tanguy.tk/ show the 110809-0713.
Try to put directly this address :
h**p://defy.tanguy.tk/jordan-nightly/cm7-110809-0713-NIGHTLY-Jordan.zip
Well i flased nightly after CM7 initialy but was not able to download any thing from market after flasing it. may be i ll give it another try after reaching home.
does it have any effect on battery life?
Try to delete your Market cache!
sorry for my bad english

Hi, guys I am on 2.2.2 exact same config as the OP here. July 2011 manufacture. Green lens + Bayer module
now, I am just about to flash CM7 RC1 2.3.4. Was wondering, is this a Full SBF? even if I dont follow the Nandroid + fixed sbf route, is there any way for me to get back stock 2.2.2 froyo for warranty purposes. Some people advised me that I should directly flash CM7 and then for warranty purposes just flash Full SBF of SEA 2.2.2 Froyo.
I am only asking because I read somewhere that the 2.3.4 Roms are non-down-gradable. Or is it only ROMS like leaked motoginger that are non downgradable.
ok ive found threads on restoring back to stock after installing cm7...but im worried about the fact that didnt take note of what stock version i was on before i flashed cm7....all i know is it was on orange contract (uk)
So can someone please help me flash a stock rom, preferably the latest stock rom available for the defy (Model Number mb525)
Just search the stock rom of your company, and flash it with rsd lite
Motorola Defy CM7 RC 1.5 OC 1GHz
thanks sorted

hi, maybe the service center just had flashed your rom to 2.3.6, but your defy is no difference from before, you can flash miui as usuall, but you bootloader may be 5or6, be careful of it.

Thanks for the comment as I have today when to motorola service center they have changed my motherboard to MB526 (i.e Defy +) instead of giving me motorola defy (i.e MB525) they are giving me Defy +. Now in that case what should i do. Help me as i m big fan miui and i would like to install in motorola defy plus also.
I have the same problem like you and cant wait for the miui for Defy + Oo
I think you need to flash the froyo bl6 ROM first as I thought that you couldn't flash a froyo kernel on the new gingerbread bootloaders. Could be off tho.

I have used both WIUI and MIUI Pikachu Edition on my DEFY+. WIUI problem was that it didn't have the battery fix, so it charge to ~82% max, but, nevermind, it was slower than Pikachu, anyway!
To use Pikachu you need to flash Froyo BL6 - download link
If you need step-by-step guide, let me know, as I have done that on both mine and brother's defy+!
Cheers!
defy+ and miui install
Hello.
How can I use miui on my defy+?
I have cyanogen rom now, my stock is 2.3.5 (I don't upgrade to 2.3.6) and i make root and recovery menu.

Thx

Hello niksy.
Do you have any new info or suggestion on installing MIUI on MB526?
For example:
1. Is il possible to flash a MIUI 2.4.20 (the final edition) full configured from my old MB525 with clockworkmod?
2. Is there a solution for the Po-Li battery charging level?
3. Is there a better kernel to use berore installing ROMs and wich MIUI distro do uoi suggest on MB526?
Thanks in advance for your kind help.
