Ummmm..yeah! That is what these forums are mostly about. For One Click Root for RFS file system look here:

This ^ or if you have that HD game demo.
EC05 stock takes up a lot of space. You can also move these apps to the SD card in Settings>applications>manage applications>all scroll down to Asphalt, press it, hit Move to SD card.

so i can still boot regular? after converting to exit4?

i don't think so. the stock roms are rfs only.
Be sure to put the syndicate rom or another ec05 rom on the phone's sd card before converting to ext4 with clockword mod recovery 3. if you already converted by accident use odin to odin back to ec05 with ext4 and and root precooked in. before you do this back up your data with clockwork or something else if you can still boot into android.

damnit i like the old stock version. i just wanted to root access so im trying to go back to stock.

I you want to root and keep the stock rom you can use one of the pre-rooted odin files. This will wipe your phone and take it back to stock rooted EC05 with RFS.
Here are instructions and links to the pre-rooted ec05 odin

Thanks to crawrj for answering a question in general that lead me to the source.
1) Download Odin
2) Download and Install Windows Drivers 32bit | 64 bit
3) Download the EC05_DXC.tar.rar
4) Extract the "EC05_DXC.tar.rar" file to a folder on your hard drive to get the necessary "EC05_DXC.tar.md5" file located inside.
5) Shut down your device
6) Boot into download mode (Hold number 1 on physical keyboard and press power)
7) Start Odin
8) Plug in device via USB cable to computer, (if it's done right you should see a yellow Com device light up in one of the rectangular boxes)
9) Place the "EC05_DXC.tar.md5" in the PDA slot on Odin
10) Check Auto Reboot ONLY
12) Click start and this should only take about 2-3 minutes to complete.
13) Wait for the green light in the Com device/rectangular box and the "Pass" to show.
When completed it should reboot into Froyo EC05, with a fresh system.

If you already put CWM3 on, boot into Clockwork with 3 finger salute and go to backup and restore, restore, and pick the before ext4 conversion file and it will bring you back so you can root with CWM 2.5.x.

thank you, at first i had a really bad headache trying to figure out what i just did and figuring out about Samsung epic and rooting. my evo is much easier when it comes to rooting and trouble shooting. but, thank you you guys make it soo easy to understand better with my epic. and o this isnt my phone is my gf phone she wanted me too root her phone and all the good stuff add.

WOW, good luck with that. I trashed my girl's phone twice and we had to redo the Homescreens. I am an expert at restoring them now. I can't change her launcher because of that. Got her purple messaging app and all. I leave her phone alone now..lol.

OK, do you have a card reader? If so, pull the battery out of the phone, download the EC05 flashable ROM with root from the thread below. Copy it to your sd card. Put the card back in. Boot by holding camera, volume down, and power. Should be orange lettered screen. Scroll down to install zip from sd card, choose that, then choose zip from sd card, then choose the file you just put on and install it.
This should put a prerooted EC05 system on your phone.

well i used the other guy post using odin and the EC05_DXC.tar and works. but the my question here i bootup and install rom manager and flash cwm 2.5.1.0 can i still restore what i had previous backuped?

Don't use ROM manager. It does not work properly on the Epic. Got this from developers here. You should be able to restore your backup if it was made when your system was known good.

well so your saying dont use rom manager to install the recovery?

I wouldn't...lots of problems with different versions of clockwork. But if that is where you made the backup....
You could try using the 3 finger salute to get to clockwork and see if your backup is there then restore it.

right now trying to restore back what i previously had. before my gf gets back from work and before she start yelling at me for deleting all of her apps she download... and i didnt backup any of them lol.

rooted....now lost! Please help

I did the root and I have the WiMAX setting and Wifi Tethering is working somewhat but I cant figure out how to flash my rom..I dl'd DamageControl 3.2 but i dont know what to really do now...When i try use ROM Manager I get the error..."an error occurred while attempting to run priviledge commands!" I'm just lost as to what i do now to start using a different rom
Bump.....ANYONE?!
So the following questions would need to be answered:
1) What version of stock were you running before you rooted? (i.e. 1.47, 1.32)
2) What root method did you use?
3) What recovery do you have?
4) If you have wireless tether working than you would need to have installed a custom kernel, which one did you install?
I'm sorry that no one else has tried to assist you in this, however, next time please post this in Q&A as this is for development purposes.

Okay during the process of rooting my device, ebo 4g, v1.3x
I ran into the same problem, you have to or I'm sure on this forum just do some research,.....
In RA, dalvik wipe, cache wipe and phone wipe. Then I flashed the rom via sd card, using clockwork custom recovery. If you used Simple root 3 click process you should have clock work.Via step 2.
Rename the Rom to update.zip and place in root sdcard.
Adb reboot recovery
Update.zip from SD card
Finnish do full system wipe and dalvik cache.
Make sure you are nand protected before flashing.
Via step 3
I don't know if this mighhelp just some recent stuff I ran into. Rooted my g1 a WHILE back. Hope these noobietips help lol

adb reboot recovery just reboots your phone into recovery mode. once your in that do all the wipes i think its 3 dlvk, data and something else. power off the phone once more then boot to recovery again. now one of the options is flash from zip go there and you should find whatever rom your trying to flash. also you should be putting your zipped rom files in the root directory of your sdcard. on a side not if your on a mac dont download them with safari use firefox or something else

nova,
I had the same boot loop issue. My thread for it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728955
The issue was that I wasn't totally 100% rooted. By carefully following these directions, I was able to resolve my issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=721055
I hope this helps also, I did it using the "PC" method. If you have questions regarding those instructions I'd be happy to share my personal experience.

Errr... maybe? Superuser permission, etc. certainly doesn't come with stock. It depends on the ROM you installed. Here's one way to find out...
Go to Settings -> About Phone -> Software Information and check the "Build Number". AFAIK it's impossible to install DamageControl without full root (I tried to myself before fixing my root and going to Fresh 1.0.1) so if that's what you have I'd say you're good.
There may be a better way but that's all I know.

Root guide and rom manager?

Is there a basic guide for rooting the epic?
I've rooted my droid a while ago, and loved the rom manager...
is there rom manager support?
Yea there is man. Go to the development thread and one of the stickies is for the wiki development page. That will have the basics and link you to the needed pages with directions. The rom manager we use on epic is clockwork recovery rom manager. Its simple to use and easy to install. Read up though first.

problem backing up my current ROM
everytime I use ROM Manager to backup my current ROM it goes to Recovery and then when I reboot the phone nothing shows up my Manage and Restore backups in ROM Manager.
Any thoughts?
Bj
Use backup and restore within cwm, not rom manager.
But you should be able to do this from ROM manager, right?
and what is cwm, i'm new at all this
Rom manager sucks for the epic. You need to use a custom kernel to use rom manager. It won't flash cwm for you on stock kernel.
Bj do you have cwm installed? Clockwork mod is a custom recovery mod. You use to NAND backup, flash, partition, clear battery stats and mire. You can only install it from a pc.
Maybe I'm slow
Maybe I'm slow here.... walk me through this.
I rooted my phone.
I have ROM Manager, which does include cwm. I purchased the paid app for ROM manager, but nothing seems to work, when i try to back up my phone boots to recovery and nothing is saved. when I search for new roms none show up.
I'm using a mac at home, but i rooted my phone on my work pc.
Please help me be able to install custom roms (froyo). please define terms and provide links if possible.
Bj
You rooted your phone good but rom manager will not flash clockwork for you. It says it dies but it won't. The only way to get cwm is to run the one click root plus clockwork. If yo turn your phone off and hold power, camera, and volume down what does the text look like. If you see blue writing and like 4 options that is the stock recovery. If it's green with a good bit of options that is what you want for flashing roms. But the new version of cwm3 is out and that is orange writing. For flashing all you do is put the rom on the root of the sd card, boot into cwm, wipe cache, data, and dalvik three times each. Then go to install zip from sd card, choose zip, and scroll till you find the rom on the sd card and hit the camera button to flash it.

Basically, do what he said. But, to run most of the Froyo ROMS, you need a DK-28 modem. Now, I'm not the one to provide the information to what that is, but all I know if that you need it.
Directions taken from BThomas22x (the maker of VIPEROM which is what I use):
As for use of Odin, It's actually a lot easier than it seems. I'll give you a quick runthrough.
1. Download and extract Odin, as well as the Modem and PIT files. (You DO NOT flash the ROM through Odin, The ROM is flashed through Clockwork.)
2. Open Odin. At this point, you have to put your phone in download mode. To do so, simply hold the number 1 on the keyboard, and the power button at the same time. Once in download mode, plug the USB cable into the phone. Only plug the phone in AFTER Odin is up and running or Odin won't pick up the phone.
3. Navigate to where you downloaded the modem and pit files and place the PIT file where it says "PIT" and the modem.bin file where it says "phone".
4. On the left side there is an options box. Make sure that "reboot" is the ONLY thing that's checked.
5. Now you're ready to flash the new modem. (Remember, the modem does NOT need to be downloaded, it's just a bonus feature) Hit start and allow it to run through it's process. When finished, the block above the port that your USB is showing will turn either green or red for pass or fail. At this point I haven't heard of anyone failing.
When Odin is done doing it's thing, it will automatically reboot the phone for you. Then you're setup with the new modem!

Head over to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=864445 if you need more help/the download links don't work.
Now, that's the DK-28 modem. YOU NOW MUST USE ROMS WITH THE DK-28 MODEM! I'm pretty sure most of the 2.2 (Froyo) ROMs use DK-28, but someone might want to double check me. It's good to learn how to use Odin anyway since it's your way out if you brick your phone.
I think I was going to include something else, but I'm too tired to remember... lol. Just send me a PM if you need any more help and I'll get back to you later tomorrow or just keep posting here.

And also what is the best way to back up my current ROM now?
Forget ROM manager.
Get your roms from the dev forum.
Put them on your sdcard where you can find them.
Flash them with clockwork.
The best way to back up your current rom is to select "backup" from within clockworkmod. It will not, however, backup your kernel. The easiest way to restore a backup is to reflash the original rom, then advanced restore->restore data in cwm.
The only way to get cwm is to run the one click root plus clockwork.

That isn't the only way, but it is definitely the easiest if you aren't comfortable fiddling around with a command line on your phone.

Yes the one click will still work. It will check if you have root and skip the exploit when it isn't needed. It will then proceed to install busybox, the reidirector, and clockworkmod.
You can find the one-click version 2.5.5 in the dev forum. It is one of the stickies at the top of that forum.

The fastest way, assuming that you have an external SD card reader and can put this file on your SD from your computer is the following:
Download This : TMobile Update Thanks to BeachHead for modifying it.
Once downloaded rename it to Update.zip.
Place in root of SDCard.
Hold the volume down button and turn the phone on. Press in the corner to get into the recovery mode. On the options select the update.zip. Let the process begin. The file is modified to not check for things. This will reload all of the firmware as well as the system. After that is done, do a factory reset. Your phone should now boot to 2.2 . If this does not work let me know and I'll do the more involved guide.

Argh - HELP
I flashed the SBF 2.2 BOOT and it booted to the T-Mo screen which is where it is currently stuck. I'll give it a few minutes.
I got where you are at now. Download this SBF and flash it. http://www.multiupload.com/ZZ4TU8W7UQ
Its is the earlier leaked TMobile build. Once you have flashed this root your phone and install clockwork. Let me know when all of that is done. I should be done with dinner by then and can help the rest of the way. You will need the zip file I posted earlier as well as the 2.2 nandroid backup. Leave the Update.zip in the root of your sdcard, and put the nandroid backup in the apkrev folder on the sdcard. Once those are in place, boot into clockworkmod. Wipe system and cache. Then do a restore of the 2.2 Nandroid. Do not reboot yet. Now apply the update.zip. Do not reboot yet. Now do another system wipe. Now reboot the phone. You should be all set to go.
Dude it was actually fine. It loaded up and worked perfectly, I have FroYo and you are the man! Now I have a camera problem.

Then do a restore of the 2.2 Nandroid. Do not reboot yet. Now apply the update.zip. Do not reboot yet. Now do another system wipe. Now reboot the phone. You should be all set to go.

I would try a reset to fix it. Many have had camera issues and that seems to be the fix.
Nothing.... What were the camera issues others had? I just get black, no matter what.

YES!!!!!!!!!!
You have to boot the right firmware. I realized that last night. You need to get that update.zip file to run and bring the proper firmware inline with the system image. I was screwing around last night playing with the different combos, and discovered that it wasn't mapping resources right. I lost use of my SD card.

Did you see my post about firmwares......the 2.2SBF is slightly older than the new rom. I suspect mappings have changed...update and see if that fixes it.

Ahhh yes that sounds like a legit fix... So he should just go into stock recovery and do the update.zip? well beach-head's update.zip
Yup. See earlier post. LOL
That update.zip from Beach never worked for me and still doesn't.... I don't understand. I still get verification failed.

Phone stuck on "Samsung" boot.

My phone will not boot past the SAMSUNG, I just booted in to CWM 3.0.0.6 and id did the EXT4 conversion thing.

You are supposed to flash the compatible ROM BEFORE rebooting. Turn off the phone, boot back into CWM with 3 finger and flash the EXT4 compatible ROM.
I never had a ROM on it jut rooted it.
I want the stock stuff just rooted so I can get the wireless tether.

That was kind of an important part of the OP on CWM 3.0.0.6. You need to pick a ROM that is EXT4 compatible, download it onto your computer, pop the sd card out of your phone, put it in a card reader on your computer and copy the ROM to it and then put it back into the phone and boot with 3 finger salute and choose install zip from sd card and flash the ROM.
Or you can Odin a prerooted EC05 stockish ROM for that.
An upgrade to CWM 3.0.2.5 will fix the problem?
*know how to upgrade from a previous post*
Here is a stock EC05 ROM for EXT4 you can Odin in:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061912
Odin instructions are here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
Yhe important thing is not to panic. We will fix this.
There are also videos on how to's here:

Yah, rather not re odin as I just did from a bad rom so I had decided to stay stock except for root, will CMW 3.0.2.5 fix my problem?

Yes, this may work. You are just having that kind of day, huh? Do you have access to a card reader on your computer?
I thought we had you all set with CWM 3.0.2.5? How did you end up with CWM 3.0.0.6?
Thats what I said! Idk how I got there let me put it on. Give me about 10 minutes.

I must be hungry...I just thought of something. Go into CWM and go to restore. There is a file there which says beforeEXT4 or something like that. Restore that and then put the other CWM 3.0.2.5 on and you should be good.
It wont let me do that.
Says no files found etc.

Is your sd card still in your phone? The conversion to EXT4 makes a backup on your sd card.
Yup i saw cwm saying it was creating a backup
when i go to clockworkmods/backup/
its there but says when i try to flash it as .zip no files found.

Not flash...restore. Go to backup and restore, restore then pick that file.

Edit:
Got the error while flashing boot image.

Arghhh! Try a second time. Otherwise just Odin a prerooted EC05 and be done with it.

Yes, right now you don't have them at all. When you log into the Market and your gmail, your apps will eventually show up and you will be able to download them again.

[Q] Moving to this phone

Hello everyone over at the Epic 4G area, I will be moving to this phone from the HTC Evo 4G I have a couple roms posted up over there. I know little about this phone and was kind of hoping you guys could introduce me into it such as how to root it, whats good for roms and what to be careful and anything else lol.

There's a guide and even videos by qbking77 via youtube on rooting. Must use Odin to root. One-clicks died with Froyo for this device.
Each phone reacts differently to each rom, and Android version. Highly recommend you just try out whatever ones look good to you. (IE: my phone just can't handle JB. The limited RAM is a deal breaker for me. Everything is laggy, slow and unusable. I stick with ICS. Others have absolutely no issues running JB.)
Okay thank you, what's with the whole BML and MTD thing?

Stock is BML.
Anything above Gingerbread is MTD. Some of the Gingerbread roms are MTD, and are noted as such.
CWM v5.0.2.7 is BML only, anything higher is MTD only.
So if I understand this correctly, if I flash any rom that is 2.3.7 and under is BML and ics and above is MTD?

Correct, except for the few 2.3 Roms that are MTD

Ahh okay thank you, I think I'm understanding it a little better. So if I want say CM on my phone, I'll have to convert to MTD and in order to go back to a ROM like stock or something similar I have to odin back to complete stock then re root?

All of our MTD-based roms automatically check BML/MTD partition state. If you're on BML, the install script will auto-convert you to MTD.
In order to go back to a BML rom, whether stock or not, you need to use Odin to reformat.
I don't think you would technically need to flash stock and re-root, but is always recommended to flash stock (Re-rooting isn't necessary). You would have to format using Odin and also flash CWM 5.0.2.7. Battery pull. Put battery back and 3-finger boot into recovery and flash away.
I see now sorry for the noob questions, just so use to HTC Evo and LTE Evo lol but how do I get my computer to read this phone. I installed the drivers and everything and it doesn't even want to show computer sync on the phone

Make sure you aren't plugged into a USB hub or emulated port. Plug the cord into a port directly on the motherboard.
Okay I finally got it connected, needed a different data cable. Now do you think you could explain to me how to root better, the video is old and a bit confusing. What do I have to choose for the FC09 the MTD or BML, could you or anyone give me like a small step by step please!

Root:
Power down device
Open keyboard, press and hold both the 1 key and power button. This places the phone into download mode.
Plug the device into your computer, and most likely drivers will install. Allow that to finish before proceeding.
Within Odin, wait until you see COM and a port number appear. That means your phone is recognized.
Next, uncheck all boxes on the left side, including auto-reboot.
Place the victory_8G_100528.pit file in the PIT box. Place CWM v5.0.2.7 .bin/.tar/.md5 file in the PDA box.
Click start and will complete relatively quickly.
Disconnect the phone from USB and pull the battery out.
Replace battery.
Press and hold Vol down, Camera and Power buttons until the capacitative lights light up, then release. This will place you in recovery mode.
From there you will boot into CWM, where you can flash whatever you want (custom rom or a compatible kernel for FC09 & SuperSU) off the SD card. So place those files prior to doing all the above.
Keep in mind, that if you want to remain on stock FC09, but rooted, you will need to flash a custom kernel. The stock kernel will replace CWM with stock recovery every time. That is why in the list above you must disable auto-reboot and battery pull.
All files are in my devhost, in my signature. If not, then they expired and I can reupload them if notified.
From stock, if you want to flash a MTD rom you will encounter the following:
Partition will be converted to MTD
MTD compatible version of CWM (v5.5+) will be installed
Recovery will auto-reboot
You must manually flash the same rom again in the new CWM version.
Rom will install
You may need to reflash the rom in CWM if you run into a stuck boot or boot loop.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. I will be doing this later tonight and let you know how everything goes
Just letting you know I rooted successfully and running supernexus! Thank you so much for all your help, much appreciated!
