[Q] Is there a quicker way to deal with nandroid backups? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have 15 nandroid backups. What is the quickest way to get rom info (like what you get in options and about phone), names of apps installed and pull all the sms? I see that they are image files can I mount them in ubuntu and just browse? Tried but nothing worked so far. Is there away I can mount the images in the emulator? I have been restoring them to my phone 1 by 1 but its time consuming and leaves me without a phone while its flashing. Is there a faster way to go about this or am I stuck flashing a couple a time?

That person means you asked a question looking for an answer so naturally the correct place to ask this question is in the Question & Answer subforum.

I posted a question there over 6 months ago and I did not get a single reply that subforum is garbage im better off on my own... I marked the post as a question and if they don't want me asking questions here why is there a "Is this post a question" checkbox in this subforum? As you can see I don't make threads daily for the simple reason of making threads. If I make a thread is because I have a question whose answer I believe will help many in the future. As you can see from my last thread most of those answers are simple for a dev even now after 6 months of using android I can answer or provide alternatives for most of them. There are not enough knowledgeable people in Q&A and posting there is a waste of time. Yes I have searched and not just this forum. Maybe ill go to the ubuntu forums see if they can point me in the right direction for mounting the images.

For some reason you seem to think forums are mutually exclusive. Never said I was leaving simply said I would try more than one place for a solution. Thanks now the thread was moved to q&a so all future responses will be as useless as yours. BTW toast thanks for moving the thread without input. Don't worry about my feelings when you troll as much as I do you don't take anything online personal I think you should know that.

I just been doing backups since I started flashing roms and for some reason did not think to back up sms. I have been flashing them its time consuming but its weird to see what my phone looked like (widgets/wallpaper/lockscreen/topbar/launcher) several months ago its like going back in time none of them are the same. Im starting to delete them now since I took the long way I haven't really had time to find an alternate method. If I find how later I will post a separate thread to save some time in the future.

Yeah, well all I can find are rooted ROMs, which are not what the OP is looking for. Care to point out where I can find a link to download the final Froyo update here?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=41591391&pp=25

Dude, no need to be a jerk... Anyone, if that download stops working, you can download it here: http://www.google.com/buzz/superlinkx/PiHU4FDrj6n/For-those-interested-I-have-included-the-final
Be warned that this update will not flash over the leaked beta update. It will ONLY flash over 1.47, so be warned. It won't brick your phone, but you will waste about 10 minutes of your life just to see it fail. HTC said they plan to have a solution for those who flashed early within the coming days.

Why the %#$% do you have MP5 gems as a damn Holy paladin? Freaking scrub.
LOL see!!!
Just an idea here... You might avoid the so-called "jerks" by posting your Question in the Questions and Answers Forum.
Let's use a little deductive reasoning here. Why post in this forum? Don't give me some BS answer, saying something like "it relates to development," because that's a lie and you know it. Truth be told without beating around the bush... The Development Forum is more populated, and you think that because you're posting here, it's more likely to get answered quicker.
Sure, it's more populated, but there-in lies the problem. Because it's the most popular forum, these so-called "jerks" are ALSO more populated here. So your probability of having a so-called "jerk" reply is far greater. You're also going to get a more rash response simply because of posting in the wrong forum and giving a reason to these so-called "jerks" to flame you.
Not only that, but those that would normally offer the help, are then turned away from offering the help because of your posting in the wrong forum. So you're not only attracting the unwanted crowd, but you're turning away the ones that would help you.
Developers are in the development forum for that exact reason... development. You people think they don't visit the Q&A Forum at all. This is untrue. Besides that, this is a community. There are those that aren't skilled enough to be a dev but skilled enough to offer the help and point you in the right direction, and not all of them, but most of those people visit the Q&A Forum regularly.

Amen.
I regularly go to the Q&A forum to give back what i can. I can also tell you that the above is correct. the people flamed the most are those posting in the wrong forum. If you search and let them know you try people a re alot more forgiving int he Q&A forum then they are in development. Think of development as your library and Q&A as the class room.
If you are unsure if it should be in development it probably shouldnt be. If it doesnt pertain specifically to a rom and isnt asked in that Roms thread until you get to a level where you can better determine where it goes ... ask in in Q&A. Best advice i can give to people with questions.

You're right. I should have been less mean. It's just that... when people come to development with questions seeking answers, it just doesn't seem right. I'd like to apologize. And I'm not gonna go back and edit it to make it better. I'm going to straight-up apologize.
I'm sorry for talking down.

Rooting Help, EVO 4G Noob

I have just moved over from an iPhone, which I had used for the past 3 years. I love my Evo but want to be able to do more with it through rooting. I have read many guides and can never get it to root or understand half of the terminology. My current setup is an EVO 4G with Android 2.2, software build: 3.26.651.3, and baseband: 2.15.00.07.28. Am I able to root this setup and what all is needed. There may not be a method for this setup yet which is fine. I am just very new to all of this and would love to understand it and get to work on the underlying beauties of Froyo. Thanks.
You currently can't root that build yet. I'm sure it will happen sooner than later. I would just stay tuned for now and keep reading up on roms, terminology, etc. so that you are more familiar with everything when the time comes.
no way to root that yet. i don't think it will be too long though. read through some guides, and study up in the meantime. you'll be better off when a method is ready.
Wrong Section not sure how rooting your phone is considered "Development" unless you have discovered ROOT.

Doesn't mean you can't answer their question so they don't have to respond back while also NICELY guiding them to the right section. (saves time and keeps the community nice)
the question was answered above so i dont think in this case they really needed to answer it again so that they could point out that the person posted in the wrong forum : \
also as an honest question how is you criticizing them for pointing out the op is in the wrong forum on every thread different then them?
honestly i think "noobs" will always just post where they want as many are only around to get questions answered as quickly as possible with as little effort as possible (nothing really wrong with that per say) and could careless about anything else. With people posting in the wrong section you will always have people complaining its in the wrong section so do we really need to add 2 new groups to this ? the people complaining about the person pointing out wrong forum and the person complaining about them to the list?
I would suggest learning to live with it and we can all pray for a forum utopia where everyone posts where they are supposed to, no one flames, and everyone learns how to search.

Or they could restrict posting new topics in this forum completely and make a subforum off it for users to post and be reviewed and be moved into this forum after it was deemed development worthy, thereby eliminating the ability to post in the forum altogether. Works well in a lot of other forums I've been on and moderated before.

Rooting 2.2?

Sorry, I am always so confused in trying to Navigate XDA. I have searched, with no luck.
Are users who previously were not rooted and installed 2.2 able to root via any method? link would be great.
I know all the previous updates are still root able via Unrevoked, but I haven't seen any news since 2.2.
thanks.
Nope.

Common theme is no one searches
My search term used "rooting froyo"
I also found TONS of threads just on the first page alone of almost every section o this forum... all asking the same question.
I guess if you can't navigate a forums search you probably wont be able to root either .... searching is pretty simple
We need a sticky to answer this question. It gets asked a lot, there's a glut of redundant threads piling up.
Why does everyone have to be a first class jerk? Ok, he didn't find a topic. If you don't live on message boards these can be very confusing to look at especially the vBulliten ones like this one is. It's hard to find things and frustrating to search. Everyone is spending so much time trying to be the cool kid that people have forgotten the simple things. If you are pissed because someone is asking the same thing, then don't enter the topic. Continue to stay in the threads that you were in to begin with, because your uber-coolness is useless anyway as you never answer the thread. I can't believe how offended that one guy was who had put in tons of links in his thread. How long did it take you to search then copy and past 4 different links? Going back and forth between screens and offering nothing useful to the topic. Those messages should be deleted, not the ones who are just asking honest questions. Call it what you want, laziness, stupidity, whatever, someone asked a question, answer it as best you can or move on.
****!
Anyway, onto my question, Froyo is a giant waste of time and energy. My battery is dying and my Evo specific piano key sounds for volume up and down have been replaced by generic Android volume sounds. How do I get my sweet piano keys back?

Actually I have rooted three Evos. One from original launch software and two after having the June update.
I am running as much customization on mine as anyone, custom rom, removed multiple system apps, replaced splash and boot, switched task bar, modified system icons, hacked swype app and lots of other stuff. Actually I am a top member on AF forums but honestly XDA is really confusing to me. I can't tell which threads are sticky, which are wiki, which are guides, shoot I can't even figure out where the regular forum is.
But thanks for your extensive help Dbag.

Thank you Foxhound. On my home forum (Androidforums) users that reply like these guys are handled with a "special touch". But I guess on XDA, or at least on this particular thread - no one gives a crap about infringement, negative comments or blatant obnoxiousness. Whatev.
Yeah stock froyo sucks. I am however enjoying my Fresh 3.1.0.1, but a couple of friends would like to have it as well which is why I posted my question to begin with.
I've been all over the web and haven't found anything yet about a successful root of 2.2. I'm sure its just a matter of time. I'm going to stop looking and just resume in a couple weeks I really only want access to the wifi tether but without paying the outrageous 30 a month that sprint wants.

Sheesh,
Ok so the wiki, its in a sticky. It says "wiki" in the title, when you get there the guides are under a section called "Guides" sometimes they call them "How to's" so watch out for that. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. Usually questions go in the "Q and A" forum. Oh and in the actual thread title you might see a [Q] which means question. Also there is a post at the top of each forum that says "How to use these forums" or something close to that anyway, there is lots of info in there as to how to navigate XDA. Sorry my last post wasn't helpful in navigating xda. I hope this one helps you out a little more.
Have a great day, good luck with the 2.2 root!

This is a prime example of how you end up having to wade through a 100 page thread just to find what you were looking for wasn't even in there...because the thread changed topics about 10 times from post boosting wanna be looking all important dumdums.
The quality of one's post's define him not the quanity
Sorry but there still remains no way to root 2.2 froyo nor fix the PRI issue...as of yet!
the problem with asking people to seach is all the threads are more than a day old, which in terms of android news is pretty antiquated.
Make a sticky or quit *****ing about people asking the same question every day. 1 day = 1 month in development time

For reference how would I go about getting the phone back to complete stock? I have tried 2 ROMs so far, CR_Mod_1.35.531_OTA Full ROM and CyanogenMod-6 for MT3G Slide - V6.0.0-RC1. Just in case that information is relevant. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

I agree with you, but seriously... a lot of these questions that are being asked (in the development forum nonetheless) should be going in Q&A obviously. Not to mention that pretty much any question that gets asked generally can be answered in The Slide Rom Bible Thread.
Yeah please search next time. Sorry for the previous poster but serioulsy we have people asking thed same questions over and over again and clogs up the forum. Also technically is in wrong section should be in qa so please be carefull of this for future posts
The answer you are looking for is in the bible thread. Flash the champion build with those instructions and would be unrooted.

I apologize for the rudeness, my jerk of a brother also has a slide and frequents this forum. he uses my laptop seeing as he doesnt have one and used my account seeing as it is saved in the browser. again my sincere apologies.
Edit: Fell free to Pm me whenever you need help Xerphon. again my apologies.
I think there was a spot on his butt you forgot to kiss.
Why do you people thing there is a Q & A section is this subforum?! YOU CANNOT post your question in the most popular subforum section just because you think you'll get a quicker answer here. This happens way too much to be accidential and everybody still claims it was.
I apologize for posting in the wrong place, and I did check the Slide Bible but didn't see anything... anyway, thanks encrypti0n for the help.

Really? It's the second post in the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6846976&postcount=2
Sorry for not checking the second thread in that post, once again I apologize for wasting the 3 seconds it took you to read the thread title and the other 30 seconds it took for you to decide to throw your 2 cents in after I already apologized. Once again, thanks encrypti0n for your help. Hopefully we can consider this matter closed now, I made a mistake no need to repeatedly throw it in my face.
Isn't there a esprimg.img file flying around here that is a full factory espresso rom?
Edit: heres to me thinking the champ rom was a regular rom and not a esprimg.zip factory flash. >_>

Well I got my replacement from tmob for my mt3gs and now I have tried just about every thread I can and nothing gets rid of root. 3 weeks ago I was asking for help to get rooted and now that is a breeze but getting it back to factory is another story. I have looked and looked and literally tried all the posts that pertain to the espresso my touch 3gs. Not a real big deal since I have the replacement but who knows it would be nice to have it stock just so there isn't any problems. I even tried the bilbe and the threads that encrypti0n posted and well all I can find but I still have root. I asked for root and I got it

You have got to be kidding me. Obviously you either didn't search at all or you don't know how to use it. I did ONE search and found the exact thread with everything you need. I searched the ENTIRE slide section (not just this section), and found it sitting there on the first page of search results. The only search term I used was the word Unroot. Here it is you lazy bums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705345&highlight=UNROOT
Oh yeah, and I have used this method and it DOES work! I have unrooted 2 to be replaced already.

I guess I was right, you really didn't search or look at anything on your own. The same link I just posted is listed right here on the 2nd post in the Bible thread. Stop wasting other people's time and look for it on your own next time.

Wow so hostile with everything Well here is the long and the short of it. I tried this thread and all the others as well and when it came down to it I made a typo in one of the directories and didn't catch it until now. I wouldn't have posted and or asked without trying everything first. I don't like to bother people. Well at least it proves I am human and not a god like some people. Yes it worked well and yes it did restore to factory. Thanks for the effort..
Well either way, I am glad it at least worked for you in the end.

Droid Maxx root

I typed "droid Maxx root" into the search box and look what came up. In the future, please search before starting a new thread

EDIT: What I probably sould have recomended (rather than the sarcasm) is posting your question in the above thread for issue specific attention rather than here where it will not get the attention you require
Thanks for taking the time to post your sarcastic reply, but you are not the only one who can "search" but I was also able to do that. During my search I also came across the same post which is over 4 months old and has gone through 2 updates to Jellybean" which has rendered this thread useless for my phone. Next time don't waste your precious time replying to posts you know nothing about.
Thanks Again

I suppose you'd get a better response if you queried that thread regarding this issue. I was trying to help you find a solution while encouraging you to use the appropriate search prior to posting procedure that is preferred on XDA. For future reference, maybe you could say in your post "hey, I've searched all over and only found outdated posts, such as 'this one' and 'that one'." Because it seems to me like there is already a Sh*t-ton of posts regarding this issue. Why start another one? So, in summation, my sarcasm was due to me assuming one of two conditions. 1) You didn't search prior to starting a new thread, or 2) You searched, didn't like the answers you saw and decided to start a new thread on an already exhaustively posted topic. Both conditions happen to be true. I wish you luck on your quest for root!!
