Sorry, I am always so confused in trying to Navigate XDA. I have searched, with no luck.
Are users who previously were not rooted and installed 2.2 able to root via any method? link would be great.
I know all the previous updates are still root able via Unrevoked, but I haven't seen any news since 2.2.
thanks.
Nope.

Common theme is no one searches
My search term used "rooting froyo"
I also found TONS of threads just on the first page alone of almost every section o this forum... all asking the same question.
I guess if you can't navigate a forums search you probably wont be able to root either .... searching is pretty simple
We need a sticky to answer this question. It gets asked a lot, there's a glut of redundant threads piling up.
Why does everyone have to be a first class jerk? Ok, he didn't find a topic. If you don't live on message boards these can be very confusing to look at especially the vBulliten ones like this one is. It's hard to find things and frustrating to search. Everyone is spending so much time trying to be the cool kid that people have forgotten the simple things. If you are pissed because someone is asking the same thing, then don't enter the topic. Continue to stay in the threads that you were in to begin with, because your uber-coolness is useless anyway as you never answer the thread. I can't believe how offended that one guy was who had put in tons of links in his thread. How long did it take you to search then copy and past 4 different links? Going back and forth between screens and offering nothing useful to the topic. Those messages should be deleted, not the ones who are just asking honest questions. Call it what you want, laziness, stupidity, whatever, someone asked a question, answer it as best you can or move on.
****!
Anyway, onto my question, Froyo is a giant waste of time and energy. My battery is dying and my Evo specific piano key sounds for volume up and down have been replaced by generic Android volume sounds. How do I get my sweet piano keys back?

Actually I have rooted three Evos. One from original launch software and two after having the June update.
I am running as much customization on mine as anyone, custom rom, removed multiple system apps, replaced splash and boot, switched task bar, modified system icons, hacked swype app and lots of other stuff. Actually I am a top member on AF forums but honestly XDA is really confusing to me. I can't tell which threads are sticky, which are wiki, which are guides, shoot I can't even figure out where the regular forum is.
But thanks for your extensive help Dbag.

Thank you Foxhound. On my home forum (Androidforums) users that reply like these guys are handled with a "special touch". But I guess on XDA, or at least on this particular thread - no one gives a crap about infringement, negative comments or blatant obnoxiousness. Whatev.
Yeah stock froyo sucks. I am however enjoying my Fresh 3.1.0.1, but a couple of friends would like to have it as well which is why I posted my question to begin with.
I've been all over the web and haven't found anything yet about a successful root of 2.2. I'm sure its just a matter of time. I'm going to stop looking and just resume in a couple weeks I really only want access to the wifi tether but without paying the outrageous 30 a month that sprint wants.

Sheesh,
Ok so the wiki, its in a sticky. It says "wiki" in the title, when you get there the guides are under a section called "Guides" sometimes they call them "How to's" so watch out for that. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. Usually questions go in the "Q and A" forum. Oh and in the actual thread title you might see a [Q] which means question. Also there is a post at the top of each forum that says "How to use these forums" or something close to that anyway, there is lots of info in there as to how to navigate XDA. Sorry my last post wasn't helpful in navigating xda. I hope this one helps you out a little more.
Have a great day, good luck with the 2.2 root!

This is a prime example of how you end up having to wade through a 100 page thread just to find what you were looking for wasn't even in there...because the thread changed topics about 10 times from post boosting wanna be looking all important dumdums.

Sorry but there still remains no way to root 2.2 froyo nor fix the PRI issue...as of yet!
the problem with asking people to seach is all the threads are more than a day old, which in terms of android news is pretty antiquated.
Make a sticky or quit *****ing about people asking the same question every day. 1 day = 1 month in development time

Nice second post....posting a month old engadget article, that has already been
Punch "engadget" into the search for this forum, and you'll find 5 threads that discuss this.
Things are going from bad to worse on these forums, the amount of new threads started without any good reason is getting out of hand.
Why people do not spend an hour or so searching and reading before posting and leaving themselves open for ridicule is beyond me.

For what it is worth, not much, my opinion is I would rather see the same questions asked and answered civilly 20 times than see the flaming that is going on all too much right now.
New users are discovering this site all the time. That is actually a good thing. Many of them don't know how to use the site. Explain it to them, help them become contributing members. Some of them will not ... there will always be people willing to leach off a system but some of them might be our next big contributor.
If you don't want to answer a post that has been asked before, simply ignore it. Others will step in to help ... or not. It is the lack of civility that is causing all of the ruckus around here not the repeated questions.

Get a grip mate, if you are new to something you do not jump in with both feet! I do help people when the problem is something that is obscure and is not easy to find, but for christ's sake having the same thread posted time after time gets really annoying when it takes 5 minutes to find the answer. I have personally made cab files available at least 3 times for certain questions, without all the other postings by other people.
Having new threads made for the same question also knocks existing threads down one notch making it harder to find answers when you are looking for something. How you can you justify sticking up for these idiots is beyond me, it makes you look as dumb as them.
"Ohh whaaaa, whaaa, sniff sniff, newbies are ruining our forums with stupid questions and not searching..." Shut up already. You were a newbie too once... you didn't just magically appear on this forum with 100's of posts.

Well, if asking for civility makes you dumb then count me guilty as charged.
Your argument does not hold much water. You are saying it only takes 5 minutes to find your answer in search. In fact, that is probably about right by my experience.
On the other hand you are angry with them because their post makes you look down an extra line or maybe even click a button to go to the next page to get to the thread you are looking for. That makes you sound like a bit of a hypocrite. You want them to spend 5 minutes searching so you don't have to be put out by clicking on a button to go to the next page? Think about that for a moment.
I am just saying don't flame them because that will not stop new users from asking silly questions. If your intent is to make some other user not ask a stupid question, you are probably wasting your effort. You are not going to affect the next new user that does not read because they will not read your post to know they will get flamed if they ask a stupid question.
If your intent is to get that person to search, simply tell them it is available in search and make them look. They will learn and you will still accomplish your task of teaching them to read without runing off new users who's first experience here otherwise will be to get a flame back with f*** this you so and so read the GD wikki.
We all want this site to grow, that will happen by welcoming new users not scaring them off.

Perhaps we should have a seperate section where all nOObs can post called the nOOb section, then you can help them with their dumb and repetative questions, while the rest of us can get on with the more serious issues.

I understand your frustration my friend. I am really a smarta** and flamer at heart I have just seen too much of it here. We spend as much time flaming the nOObs as we do contributing and the site is losing some value as a result. I just don't want to see a good thing die.
Have a good day ... see you around the site.
Forget flaming
hay all of you flaming nerds, who cares if they did not search, this thread still seemed to have attracted users even if it is dumb didn't it!!!!!!
there are more flaming posts on this site than regular posts and dumb questions combined, for every dumb question there are 30 flames.
Oh you poor people your poor little eyes have to read one extra line of words, "oh dear there is an extra word i have to read i'm a-gettin the vapors!!"
You spend way way way more time writing flames than you actaully do skipping the dumb question and moving on. or try something different and instead of being an a-hole actually help the newb find their way around.
by flaming you are showing that you are immeasurably more stupid than the one asking the dimb questions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
any way, i wouldn't mind having a cingular rom since:
1. I have cingular on my unlcoked tytn
2. I can get push to talk unlimited for 10 bucks
3. I can care less about having the side button mapped to voice command, i can do that from my headet (plus if you are using voice command to dial a number right there from your handset instead of speed dial or contacts, you are just lazy)
It's amazing how seriously some take these internet forums.
So the guy is new and posted some old information, so what? It's probably happened a thousand times, correct?
Just move on and save the high blood pressure for something that really matters...
This is an absolutely freaking waste of space thread...
For the senior members please dont flame, it only makes it worse, just ignore them and they will go away since their questions dont get answered, might actually force them to read and search...
@the N00bs... READ AND SEARCH before making usless threads.. and if you dont like the rules then go elsewhere... Now when someone tries to search for a cingular WM6 8525 rom they are going to pull up several threads of the same topic.. THIS IS A WASTE OF TIME all because you were to lazy to search...
And in the case of this thread... Do you really think a month old engadget story that involves the hermes (8525) and WM6 would have somehow missed this forum... hmmmm not likely!
Hi I was wondering if there is a One Click Root, because well I'm not smart enough to do step 1-19 or whatever so is there a 1 click root for 2.1-Update 1

that would be a no
Just gonna throw this out there -- If there was a one click root, wouldn't it be posted in the how to root post?
Also, if there was a one click root why would an incredibly long an complex method be listed at all?
Third, wouldn't it be more appropriate to ask this in the how to root the slide post and not to create a pointless new post and clutter up the development forums?

Chris, seriously, you need to cease creating threads in this forum. Please use the search functionality to answer your questions as, thus far, they have all been asked before and answered as well.
There is no one-click root on this device nor will there be for the foreseeable future. And there is no Froyo rom out yet -- as soon as one is released it will be posted here or on Android Spin.
Oooooh great now people I don't even know want no part in me, greeeat

Nobody really wants you banned, we would just like to see the clutter kept down. This phone is growing in popularity, so it would be safe to assume that, if a new and easier method to root had come along, it would have been posted, and moist definitely stickied to the top. They're wanting to see people use a little more common sense is all.
It the processing of rooting your phone is too techincal for someone then why would they want root? Just use the phone as a phone like most people do.
I would like to see people banned who obviously can't follow the rules of the forum. I would like to be able to come here and check to see if anything new and exciting is happening with ACTUAL android development, but more than half the posts(probably more than 2/3) are pointless things that are already answered elsewhere.

frankly i agree that users like this should at the least get a suspension and a link to the rules and search button. just too funny though that i was just arguing that xda has turned to script kiddie playground where everyone wants an easy solution that is just one-click or one button press and be done, who cares about the weeks spent on the original method lets use the simple one and give thanks to that guy.

Seriously? It took me less than a few seconds to click the link, read the question, realize that even I knew the answer, and to go back to the development directory. It didn't even occur to me to be annoyed. This guy is obviously interested in the same thing you are and is simply asking questions to get caught up to speed. At one point in time, you knew as much as this guy did. Perhaps you learn better when people berate and threaten you but normal, well adjusted people don't. Try a little patience. It works.
Also, I do agree that a link to the rules and search button is a good way to stem the tide of superfluous threads. I'm just saying people shouldn't take mistakes as acts of aggression.
yes i may have been as dumb/n00bish when i started hacking phones, but google was my best friend first, and he introduced me to xda, now google is more like the third wheel when search here doesn't work. if you cannot search you should not be allowed to post. if you cannot follow directions (steps 1-19) then you shouldn't be here. part of hacking these phones is that you have to be able to use a computer first, if you can't use a computer then you shouldn't be hacking your phone.
this is just as bad as the people that "brick" their phones and don't know how to fix it because they didn't read the sticky. clutter is what this is all about though, most of us hate that we have to sift through page after page of clutter to find the threads that matter to us.
I can get with that but I know that I will err, from time to time. Ergo, I can't expect other people to not err. (believe me, I will ask dumb questions.) Google has proved to be a relatively useless tool when it comes to learning about phone modding, except that it led me here.
When I make a dumb post and someone tells me to "Get a clue, mongoloid ****!", it doesn't make me want to get better at searching the forums, it makes me want to skin their dog.
I'm eager to learn and, since I'm new to the forum, I probably shouldn't be dictating terms, but it seems cruel to automatically ban or suspend someone who's intelligence might not lie in effectively using a search engine. He might be a cool guy with a horse **** who donates to charity.
People like you have the knowledge base. People like me have **** all. Everything I've learned has come from reading the forums and asking stupid questions. Since I am new, things might fly by me in the Q & A section because everyone's using terms that are new to me. I have yet to find a decent glossary of terms and it's not for lack of trying. I didn't even know what a radio was, a month ago. Because some people are helpful, I now know what it is, what it does, and how to put a new one on my phone.
You're one of the cool kids, you know? Be thankful you've got a grip on this and try not to sweat it when people make mistakes. In my line of work, n00bs don't even ask questions. They just see what people like me do and assume they can do it, as well. Now that's irritating.
I have some excellent grass and I'm more than willing to share if it means everyone will take it down a notch.
Oh, and you're absolutely right. It's just that reading through all of the useful and useless **** alike is a daunting task. You can't blame someone for wanting to bypass it all, once in a while, and to maybe add a little color and conversation to all of the relevant data to make the whole experience more worthwhile.

i like that idea, after a little time for my grass i understand people wanting to take shortcuts, i have been trying to come up with a better solution for root, even if it was a semi-simple batch or script with pauses and questions and directions as you go along. i love to show people how great their phone can be and some of them probably end up here as the n00b i flame for not reading or following directions
The great thing about XDA is that the Mods are very good at what they do and will not just drop the ban hammer for something as simple as asking a bad question no matter how much any member screams for it. There are checks and balances just like any other system of justice. So no need to argue or defend yourself if you are new here, from what I have seen it's actualy quite difficult to get banned and there is a proccess that must be followed before it will come to that.
I thought I asked this to be closed,....that's it I'm gonna boycot XDA and I'm switching to sricktly android sites,...goodbye and farewell, p.s. could some mod someware delete my account,. I have just moved over from an iPhone, which I had used for the past 3 years. I love my Evo but want to be able to do more with it through rooting. I have read many guides and can never get it to root or understand half of the terminology. My current setup is an EVO 4G with Android 2.2, software build: 3.26.651.3, and baseband: 2.15.00.07.28. Am I able to root this setup and what all is needed. There may not be a method for this setup yet which is fine. I am just very new to all of this and would love to understand it and get to work on the underlying beauties of Froyo. Thanks.
You currently can't root that build yet. I'm sure it will happen sooner than later. I would just stay tuned for now and keep reading up on roms, terminology, etc. so that you are more familiar with everything when the time comes.
no way to root that yet. i don't think it will be too long though. read through some guides, and study up in the meantime. you'll be better off when a method is ready.
Wrong Section not sure how rooting your phone is considered "Development" unless you have discovered ROOT.

Doesn't mean you can't answer their question so they don't have to respond back while also NICELY guiding them to the right section. (saves time and keeps the community nice)
the question was answered above so i dont think in this case they really needed to answer it again so that they could point out that the person posted in the wrong forum : \
also as an honest question how is you criticizing them for pointing out the op is in the wrong forum on every thread different then them?
honestly i think "noobs" will always just post where they want as many are only around to get questions answered as quickly as possible with as little effort as possible (nothing really wrong with that per say) and could careless about anything else. With people posting in the wrong section you will always have people complaining its in the wrong section so do we really need to add 2 new groups to this ? the people complaining about the person pointing out wrong forum and the person complaining about them to the list?
I would suggest learning to live with it and we can all pray for a forum utopia where everyone posts where they are supposed to, no one flames, and everyone learns how to search.

I would suggest learning to live with it and we can all pray for a forum utopia where everyone posts where they are supposed to, no one flames, and everyone learns how to search.

Or they could restrict posting new topics in this forum completely and make a subforum off it for users to post and be reviewed and be moved into this forum after it was deemed development worthy, thereby eliminating the ability to post in the forum altogether. Works well in a lot of other forums I've been on and moderated before.
I'm running SkyRaider 3.0 Vanilla RC3 on my Inc w/2.6.32.15-g5e1ad8b [email protected] #1 and today I got an Update Notification from VZW. I have read that rooted/ROM'd devices are not supposed to get, nor should they, install these updates... what should I do? How do I make it go away? Thanks...

don't know about that, but posting in the correct section might make it stop
How do these topics keep popping up? There's a damn Droid Incredible Q&A forum!

Head to My Droid World and ask, the members there don't jump down your throat for asking a question. Yes we all know you "Pros" lose a little of your soul each time someone who isn't in your league of Android superiority asks a question you already know the answer to, but really, your constant responses berating people who ask questions, "Let me Google that for you", "Search NAO!", etc, are more annoying that people asking a question that may have already been posted.
It seems many people forget how and why forums were created....to share information regarding a common interest. People use these forums to learn, and it is a great tool for it. Now sure, I agree people should do a little search before posting, it saves everyone time, but there really is an overwhelming amount of information out there, and a lot of it can be contradicting. There should not be a problem with people asking for a clear, updated answer. Also, many times when people are new to the development world, some of the answers out there just don't make sense, or aren't perfectly clear to the askers specific situation.
I recently sae a post by the Admin at AndroidForums(I think, it was a big Android site tho) directing their mods to not do this. To remember that all members should be welcomed, and there is no need for condescending attitudes towards people asking questions. Also, the people at My Droid World are the same way...they are willing to help, be it a Android vet or a "n00b". I know XDA could be considered an "advanced" development forum, but if you don't allow new members in and pass the knowledge along, it's just an elitist club rather than a community forum. There is no "community" in these kinds of attitudes.
And really, what good is "Google is your friend", "Use the Search", and related type responses. Obviously it is an ego thing, consiously or not. It doesn't help the person asking, and does nothing for the person answering, beside making them look like a jerk. Especially the people whining about having to waste so much time responding to duplicate questions. The simple answer is to NOT respond. But then their superiority isn't known to everyone. If you don't wanna help the OP out with an answer or link, and having nothing worth mentioning on the topic, just move along. Don't waste your precious time, that is obviously more important than the rest of ours, and simply move along.
Anyway, to the OP, I came here looking for similar info as well. I am using Skyraider Sense, but having the same issue. There is one thing I have noted tho. I use my DInc as a "backup", so there is no service on it. I then turned off wifi thinking that I would not get the update requests, but I still am. So I was wondering if the requests are originating locally, and if so if there is a file that could be deleted to stop the requests. However, I believe that even tho I don't have service, Verizon can still peach my phone and send me updates. There could be another explanation as well lol. But anyway, if I find anything out I will let ya know. If you don't find any answers here, check out My Droid World.
You hit the nail on the head. It would take no longer to respond with an answer (if you know it and don't just wanna appear to) as it does to appear as an all knowing elitist android asshat.
Not everyone on here eats/sleeps/dreams android, but like prob 60% or more of the people on here are journeyman or lower gadget freaks that like to play around with the newest stuff for there phone/toy.
I for one have tried many a time to find an answer to a prob I have but find it daunting when some of the threads get 100+ posts added a day.i end up dealing with the issue I'm having, doing a nandroid restore, or just changing roms b/c I don't wanna see the flame fest ill prob get for asking a question that might have been answered already in a thread with 4000 posts....

Trust me when I say that these forums are anything but elitist. Also trust me when I say that evenly applied moderation would go a long way toward making these forums more productive.
Look around; do any developers (not ROM chefs!) actively visit XDA any more?
nobody told the op to search.
it doesn't take an android wiz or forum guru to read the rules and post in the correct place.

This coming from someone who over half of his posts are nothing more than bashing blackdroid or other forum members, how does that help the community? Posting in the correct section makes it more productive. How hard is it to post a QUESTION in the "QUESTION & ANSWER" section?
I told him not to install the update because it would make him possibly lose root and other things. I told him I did not know about the other half of the question that he was asking, but that it would be much better if he asked it in the proper section. (and if you can't take a little sarcasm over the internet... i don't know how long you will make it in life)
I'm sorry I posted in the wrong section... Months ago, when I found this site I bookmarked the "Droid Incredible Android Development" thread directly. I didn't think to click back one link to the "HTC Droid Incredible" thread to see other sections... I have done searches before, but spend WAY to much time sifting through post after meaningless post. I don't have hours to spend reading threw thousands of posts to find an answer...
I did find a resolution though without the help of anyone here... using ROM Manager, I dl'd the latest Virtuous ROM = problem solved.
At least I know now where to post a question... thanks for that.

Whoa, I'm in complete agreement with you.
RE: Backdroid - one would thinly there would be agreement amongst community members that his brand of dishonesty and disingenuous mea culpas would be unwelcome.
The WinMo threads I used to lurk on here aactually contained development (read: coding) talk. The Android subforums seem to be all about clamoring for themes and conflating ROM cooking with development. I expected a similarly articulate set of users here.
Moved to Q&A as not development.
Posting questions in the right place keeps everything organised, and makes it easy to find people needing help.
Don't post questions in the development forum, and remember to search thoroughly before posting. This kind of thing regarding OTA updates is addressed in virtually every device forum on XDA.
Finally, finish with the flaming guys.
Hi guys! I deliver this phone yesterday.
It uses stock 2.3.5 and I want to upgrade a newer version.
I see many roms but really do not know which to use with.
As for my expectations from rom. I need as everybody stability, performance and good battery life.
I need your opinions.
From now thanx for your advices.
If you bothered to read any stickied thread in this forum you'd have an answer for this.. It amazes me how not one person reads forum rules or stickies before asking the same question daily...

Reading stickies/forum rules aside; if you're gonna ask a question that's been asked a hundred times before, why not, at the very least, revive one of the multiple dozens of threads where that question has been asked already instead of creating more useless clutter in an already irreparably cluttered board?
Hey, at least he's not asking how to root, or what's with the error after flashing CWM over official ICS
Lol. Yeah that's true.. Its funny if you go back to the sub forum there's (estimate without actually checking) probably about 5 asking what's the best ROM, or how do I root.. Meanwhile there's like 2 or 3 stickies explaining it... In the same exact page!
Um all for forum activity, and a live forum is definitely better than a dead one but come on people seriously.. I'm not trying to be a jerk and sorry if it comes off that way but I've only been a registered member for not even a year and it does get frustrating. Just try to read some posts before making a dumb one.. If you have a question its pretty much guaranteed its been answered.
The forum rules, which are actually a global announcement if I'm not mistaken; clearly state that if you're too lazy to experiment with the ROMs and find out for yourself which one is best then this isn't the right place for you.. And I wholeheartedly agree. I've only had the p930 since last November or so and I've been testing ROMs since day one and I've never once had to ask how to root or which ROM to use... That's the whole fun/enjoyment of android dev IMO.
There's my two cents. If you honestly still can't find an answer then there's probably no hope. Get a friend to mod your phone.. Lol

My conclusion is that the "Search this forum" box doesn't seem to appear for 95% of the people... I mean, that's the only logical explanation, right?

I asked a simple question, and need an opinion. Absolutely I had searched the forum,
there are so many different q/a posts. I have just confused.
Yes. I don't ask how to root or flash. I'm not new on android.
Maybe I know more than you think.
I this is the way you help other peoples who need help.
This is your satisfactionary.
If you don't want to help, just don't type anything. Let it be blank,
So may the others can share their opinions.
And I didn't post for you to chat here. You can send eachother pm (acording your thoughts) about people who want an opinion.
Btw. I don't need your opinion.

Look, I'm glad to have you as a part of the community; there is not one single person who shouldn't be a part of what we have here. All I'm saying is that, instead of posting a new thread to ask a question that has been thoroughly covered in multiple other threads; why not, at the very least, revive an old thread for this purpose instead of adding more clutter to an already cluttered board? It's posts like this which are the reason that there are "already so many different q/a posts."
I never said or implied that you were new to Android, and I never once said or implied that you were ignorant when it comes to Android devices. Believe me, I'm far from knowing anywhere near what I would like to know; but I guarantee you that almost every single question that has been, and will be asked on this board has already been covered multiple times; including "which rom is best". The development section has discussions covering the bugs and gremlins for every ROM released for this device via XDA. No real need to read every single page of each threads, just skim the last few pages and you'll get an idea of where the ROMs stand in their current form.
With that being said, I DO apologize for being a complete jackass and for the tone which I put across; but the sentiment remains.
Also, I have put forth an answer buried in my reply here; although it is a little verbose and requires you to do a little more leg-work to form your own opinion... which is what counts the most.
The answers you seek are on the very page you posted this in...

^ There you go.
If you want the latest Android experience (4.22), the best all around bet is probably the unofficial PAC-ROM + Wind kernel 1.7 or 1.8. Bluetooth works pretty well, I think the only bugs are the other common CM10.1 ones- 1080p recording crashes, hitting the power button while in the camera app crashes. If you don't care about bluetooth and just want speed and battery, check out JellyBAM- it is slightly less stable than PAC but it flies.
If you are ok with ICS (4.0X) then HO!NO!'s CM9, Liquid Nitro or HO!NO!'s V20f are solid.
But in the future, search around and do a lot of research before posting a question- on most forums it annoys the members to be answering the same questions repeatedly
OP no, just try for yourself....
