Ugh, I stood up, phone was in lap and it fell 3 feet and landed on the corner, solid...shattering the corner and put a crack all way across and up. I purchased a new screen and digitizer combo off eBay and a siedio convert combo to protect my 3500. Has anyone installed a screen. I'm very capable of doing this just looking for opinions from people who have done it their selves. Funny thing is the screen is cracked and the phone works perfect lol. Pretty damn good phone
Why didn't you just take it to sprint and have them replace it for $35? Or did you opt to not get insurance?

No insurance. Figured w all done to it, if it went terminal before I could flash it to stock they wouldn't accept it. No biggie. Watched a YouTube video so it looks easy enough

Even if he had insurance, Sprint doesn't do this anymore.
OP = If you purchased the digitizer/LCD combo, it is fairly easy to do. You can find a good guide to take apart the phone here:
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/I...-Panel/3081/10
Also, if you search YouTube, there are video walkthroughs of the process, as well.

but you have to open your phone before you buy it to see which one you need since there's two lcds. or you can just purchase the digitizer and replace that only which is a little more time consuming. Either way its not too hard.
My LCD appears to be perfect. I just purchased the new screen w the built in digitizer. Hopefully it will go smooth

ok so I managed to crack the screen..nice big shatter mark under the screen and now the entire screen went black...insurance is a pain and from what I understand getting Asurion to replace my vibrant will be $130 and buying an AMOLED screen itself is cheaper.
The rest of the phone is still in working condition as before my screen went totally black after it broke some of it was still functional.
Any idea on where I can get the screen? I have not had luck on ebay as of yet, and was hoping someone here could recco a reputable vendor...
Aliexpress? aliexpress DOTcom/product-fm/342627474-Touch-Digitizer-LCD-Display-AMOLED-Screen-origianl-i9000-for-T-Mobile-Samsung-Vibrant-t959-Wholesale-wholesalers.html

www.cnn.cn maybe? it about $70 +sh
Wow wish I would had found this post sooner...
I dropped my vibrant from my and it was in the case.. it landed flat on the screen..glass did not break but AMOLED screen enploded.. I didnt know until i got to my car and tried to make a call. Crap...I dish out the $130.00 bucks ...bummed out about that..
oh man ...
Still great site and price. Thanks
Thanks I'll try cnn.cn. I see some decent reviews about them.
Is there a tutorial on how to replace this? Or would you have to get someone to do it?

I cracked my screen also. I found that site after I put in the claim. So I figured what the hell and started taking it apart, for next time.
It isn't easy! I'm pretty nerdy and good with my hands. Be very careful and very patient. There are small parts and wires that can very easily break.

ok so I got the screen...and this thing is hard as hell to swap...anyone have any ideas? I dont want to further damage anything...

Have you had any luck with this?I own an Orange San Francisco and cracked the amoled, unfortunately orange or any other site/company offers any repair AFAIK. I'm looking into repairing it myself, are amoled connectors compatible from one phone to another or are they manufacturer specific if you are aware of? I know this is a long shot but it doesn't hurt asking.

it would most likely have to be the same part
because the Galaxy S series are the only ones with that size AMOLED screen.
been there done that
i got a vibrant off of something awful for pretty cheap with a broken screen
first off you literally have to pry the screen off of the phone
and the bottom four buttons? there is a very thin ribbon cable that is glued to the screen
there are a few things youll need
1.really small screw driver (i got a glasses repair kit from the dollar store. worked great)
2.something to pry the screen off (used a screw driver from said kit)
3.balls. that ribbon cable is very very easy to break
first off you have to take apart the phone completely
i would even take off the one board that the screen connects to
then you need to pry off the screen very carefully
if your amold or whatever part is broken you're going to have to peel it off
it really sucks and makes you look like a bad 70s disco
after that it gets pretty simple
make sure you have something to hold the top and bottom part to the phone
mine isnt flush due to me being a jackass and not getting the right glue stuff to hold it down
after that it should work perfect like before
if anyone wants to trade me a new screen for the i9000 screen or buy me a screen (lol) i would make a very detailed video (not happy with the way the first attempt turned out)
post itt or pm me if you have any questions
So you are saying it should work, but what about the software part, won't there be any problems?

I really need help. I got my phone apart w/ the board for speaker and camera off and the front speaker off. I did not remove the haptic feedback motor yet. how the hell do you actually pry the screen off. i just don't see a way.
will the international galaxy s screen work for vibrant they hace same shape compared to captivate. And I9000s screen is cheaper than T959 screen (based on ebay price)
it's pretty bad, luckily i have a screen protector on it so all the glass is still in position. i peeled a bit off and pieces of glass were falling out.
anyways i dont have insurance, i was looking thro ebay to buy whats needed to fix it myself, but i'm not entirely sure what i need. it's fully functional, the glass is just cracked, but nothing wrong with the touch screen. now with that said....
do i need this?

i do realized 2 and 3 are the same, i was wondering if theres a quality differnece? i'm hoping someone with some background on this could comment, i would definitely appreciate it.
Take it to Sprint, under their new policy, they will repair it for 35.00 if you don't have insurance.

thanks
thank you for the quick reply i think i am going to chance it and send it in rather than me destroy something
I'm not forcing you to me but it is literally impossible to screw something up, its no relying, nothing, just straight up screwing 6 screws swap front part if phone with new one, and screw back, its really easy tbh

They don't just give you a new one or refurbished one. If all he has is a broken digitizer and LCD they can replace that. They usually carry 003 and older parts in stock. If the damage is beyond repair then they might give him a refurb but not without verifying that the phone is repairable.

Would this work on the evos selling cheap on eBay due to cracked screens or water damage...? Obviously not for the ones that are being sold with bad ESN's
Sent from my froyo using the xda app
Maybe. Not sure about the water damaged ones. But I would suggest buying it keeping on the account for a while then taking it to get repaired. You don't want to raise suspicion and then have sprint cut the repair policy.

Thanks for this post. My screen broke yesterday. I was running upstairs to my apartment with the phone in my hands and I tripped and had to brace myself with my hands. I didn't even know the phone was broken till a few minutes later when my gf saw it.
I'm so glad Sprint will fix it for $35 I thought I was going to have to wait a month at least to save up @$100 and buy a replacement screen. At $35 I'll have it fixed next paycheck or maybe the next one cause of xmas.

So, I had my phone sitting on my work truck and I watched as it slid and flipped over and smacked the concrete. I have a good case and have dropped it before with no repercussions but this time it just shattered the screen. No big deal, hopped on Amazon and ordered a new one for about $24.
Got here today and I eagerly took my phone apart. Followed a video and had no troubles until I got to the step of actually taking out the screen. My evo had quite a bit of adhesive and being that the screen was already shattered, I had a hell of a time getting it out. Well, I seen the LCD was all bent and messed up too but I still put the new screen in and sure enough, half my screen doesn't work.
So...if I order a LCD, take it back apart and put it in along with the new screen everything should work fine again, correct? Also, do I need to order those glue strips or is there something else I can use to hold it all in place. Sorry if this seems stupid but I'm just a little irritated that I ordered one piece when I really needed another as well and I'm just at the point where I feel like buying a new one off Craigslist will be easier. Thanks in advance
Sometimes buying a new one can be better/easier but if you're capable of replacing it yourself why not lol. Just make sure you order the right part for your particular evo......

first, it's hell to get the digitizer (the part you actually touch) attached back on to the rest of the screen. it would be better and easier to buy the whole lcd/digitizer front for the phone.
BUT MAKE SURE YOU BUY THE RIGHT LCD SCREEN: theres two different kinds, narrow strip, and long strip.

Also, does anyone know where to get the best deal on an lcd/digitizer once I find out which one I need?
My friend dropped my phone over the weekend and cracked the glass for the screen. Im looking at buying a relacement for it as I bought the phone second hand but after looking around for the parts I'm not sure what to get. Everything works as normal and ive seen a few different parts. I know I dont need the lcd as thats perfecctly fine but I'm not sure if i need the digitizer or just the glass. I dont trust any of the phone shops round here so If I have to use them I like to know what needs doing before i go there

Hello. Here is the story. I set my phone screen down on a tile counter top so I could listen to music. After I picked I up the screen had a very fine crack going down the middle of the screen. I didn't drop my phone or set it down firmly. All that happened was I set the phone down and when I picked it up there was a crack and 3/4 of the touchscreen is dead. The screen is working fine along with the rest of the phone except part of it is unresponsive to touch. Is it possible to take it to a Sprint Store or another shop and let them fix it? How much would it cost? I do not have an insurance plan or whatever Sprint calls it for this phone.

No they will not replace the screen in store. Your only other optiin besides doing the swap yourself is to file a claim with asurion. Change the screen yourself. Its cheaper.

I have changed quite a few screens from various brands. Samsungs are the most straightforward. Get a little practice and you can make a decent buck on the side fixing friends and coworkers broken devices. I typically get anywhere from 20 to 50 bucks depending on the make and model. Youtube it if your not sure; someones always taking apart their stuff on camera on Youtube. Good luck.
