I did a search for this, and could not come across any relevant content. But I'm betting someone has had this question before.
Is there a way to prevent the SMS content from showing up in the status bar when I get a text? I know it only shows up for a few seconds, but nonetheless it is still a 'breach' of my lockscreen. I'm currently running SRF 1.1.0 if that's relevant. I'm aware of the programs like Handcent and Shady SMS, but those seem like overkill for this situation. Thanks in advance.
Oh, and for any SRF dev that might read this: I'm lovin' this ROM! Awesome speed with great battery life. You guys rock.

Go to messaging app, then menu, settings and disable notifications.
Texted while driving
I'm aware of that option, but it was my understanding that unchecking that box would also stop me from seeing ANY kind of notification of an SMS in the status bar. I just don't want it showing the actual content of the SMS, but I still want to be able to glance and see that I have a message waiting. Am I wrong in thinking it will disable all status bar SMS notification?

It will remove the notification from the status bar but you will still get a lockscreen notification and a number on your messaging envelope.
Do you BONSAI?
Perhaps you should try another messaging app with more controls like Handcent or GoSMS. I thought one of them had this option for removing.
Do you BONSAI?
I'll check it out. Thanks for the info.

Do you mean pop up notification? Or any notification? Cause the apps like handcent have an option to disable pop up.

If you're using handcent, go, ect, if you go into the settings, and disable popup notification. And then there will be another setting to not show it in the notification bar.

I swear roxxor camps Q+A! lol
Handcent will do that. You can fix that with what rox said
If you are using the native default app, I am assuming you mean in the notification bar, you can change that in settings.
You can turn off notifications in stock SMS. You can use Handcent, as others have suggested. GO SMS is a lovely SMS application, too, that I currently love and use and it has the option of a "privacy mode" so that it only reads "New Message" instead of message text.
thank you all =)

Lol, I do come here often, but I also hit up the development board, themes/app, and sometimes general; I sometimes do stick around here a lil' more because I like helping the other users.
You can change the xml file in HTCLockscreen.apk to hide sms messgaes from showing. That is what I always do when I build my rom.
I have all the EVO threads favorited but my real favorites are q&a+general.

I've been using handcent since I got my EVO at launch. But I just remembered about the message being displayed on the lockscreen with the stock messaging app, and I actually miss that now. I hate the pop up feature that handcent has, but does anyone know if its still possible to have the message on the bottom of the lockscreen? Even if there's another messaging app that has the feature. I just like having my own custom look. Is there maybe an app for it? Any help is greatly appreciated.
I'm not a Mik.....but my EVO is!
Well I don't know of an app that will do that. You can try Go sms, but handcent just give you that full popup, or use stock messaging, which no one wants to do that.
I am -.- lol got tired of people reading my God damn texts. Stupid pop up poop lol.

I believe handcent has an option to turn off the pop up. If it doesn't. Chompsms then.

it does have the option, and I have it off, I just kinda miss having the message show at the bottom of the lock screen like with the stock messaging app.

Keep in mind, enabling any pop up options in handcent will cause a wakelock until you acknowledge the message. If you get a text a midnight and don't read it til 7am, your phone will be wakelocked for 7 hours, resulting in battery drain.
Oh wow. That's why I deleted that piece of crap. Stock messaging app is reliable..except for the occasional 'miss-click'

Just upgraded my Evo to the Epic 4G Touch, and I'm a fan of Handcent for messaging, and prefer its notifications over the stock messaging app. On the Evo, if you disabled notifications in the stock messaging app, you just didn't get them.
On this phone, I get notifications no matter what.
Any clues?
open stock app, press menu, uncheck notifications.
im using handcent like i did on evo and get no stock notifications. i also replaced the stock app button w/ the handcent app. only problem...it doesnt have a little counter showing me how many msgs i have.

Are you saying you're getting double notifications via both stock sms and handcent event though you've disable them in the stock app or are you saying you're still getting them from handcent even though you've disable them in the stock app?
In a nutshell, you'll get them from either or both if you haven't disabled the individual notifications in each app, i.e. stock sms and/or handcent. Make sense?
I believe there is a plug in in the market for that

a plug in that works similar to the handcent widget'? of the three interchangble scrolling buttons, only apps are allowed to be used. the handcent widget works fine, its just not selectable as a button i can use on the 4button scrolling bar.
OP did you disable notifications in the STOCK app and STILL get notified?

I have no issues with the notifications, however I do have Force close issues with Handcent on my phone. Is anyone else experiencing the occasional freeze up? I usualy have to task kill it or wait till I get the force close option, but it happens pretty often.
I know, I know everyone has been saying that they are getting blurry mms's that's not what my question is about.
As per the suggestions I installed the cm messaging:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20738522&postcount=4027
After installing the app, the messaging icon appears on the home page and not in the bottom in the Dock with the "Phone", "Contacts", and "Application". Just wondering how to get it down there?
Also whenever I get a new text message and/or e-mail my lock screen doesn't turn on, and there is no Event Notification to unlock the screen and go immediately to either the text messaging app or the e-mail.
If someone could let me know how to fix these concerns or direct me to where I would be able to find the answers, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Go to drawer and hit the menu button, there should be like a edit function

It was working before the md4 update. I could delete from the pull down curtain. Now all I get is the notification without the delete /reply options. I have tried all different settings without success. I even uninstalled gmail, deleted data and cashe, reinstalled. No dice. I really liked to be able to delete without going to the app....

if there are any other notifications in the pulldown (including one's that can't be swiped away) the option doesn't show up... I stopped using ds battery saver for this reason

I went to lookout settings and turned off the icon. Now all works again.... I Never would have thought it was from lookout. I even sent them an email to alert them of that. They sent a reply in 5mins. Said it shouldn't do that....
Thanks again for helping!

It's not lookout, it's gmail, if there is already any kind of notification on there it doesn't give the expanded delete reply option...:thumbup::thumbup:

Again, it's not a lookout problem, is a gmail problem.. nothing lookout can do to fix this, it would have to be coded into the gmail app to allow it to display these options when there is other notifications
Sent from my ANTHRAX sniffing GS3
I think the gmail notification has two modes: minimized and full (with buttons).
The notification only shows the buttons when it's the "top" notification. Apps like lookout have persistent notifications, so the gmail notification is never top dog and therefore doesn't go into "full" mode.
I know in 4.2.2, the method I described allows you to expand minimized notifications. I do a medium-length press and hold, then drag the notification down to expand it. I'll try to capture a video of what I mean (never captured video on my phone before).
